Excellent food choices and superior service. Can't want to go back. Canoe had some very good choices for their appetizer menu.

My only complaint is the parking was confusing. They say you can self park but the entire parking lot says no canoe parking - see valet. However, on weekends when those other businesses are closed, it's fine for you to park there My favorite food here was the pastry basket. The sticky buns are so good, we almost ordered more but luckily self control saved us. The basket also came with 4 scones with 1 being savory. They all looked and smelled delicious, but I only ate some sticky bun. The pastry basket is a must have for the table! I ordered the bloody Mary drink and mine came with a couple olives, 1 pepperonicini, & a celery stick. Other tables came with other items so not sure what it's actually supposed to have. One woman's had a shrimp in hers but our server said we had the same drink but the flavor of the drink itself was great. Spicy, salty and not too sour! I got the springer mountain chicken which comes with cheddar grits, chicken and a few french beans covered in au jus. I'm usually not bothered by texture but the grits had the weirdest texture. Normally, when you get grits, they're like shrimp & grits where they're creamy and eaten with a spoon because they're like a thick soup. These grits had the texture of one wide, thin, grit jelly like I mean you jellied your grits and you should eat them with a fork. They tasted ok but the texture was so strange. The chicken was good, crispy skin and moist meat and the au jus was a nice flavor but started solidifying as I ate through the meal where I was expecting more of the sauce consistency of the jus you get with a prime rib. Not my favorite dish by far. I ended up eating more of my husband's riverside than my own food which he just kept pushing his plate closer to me when he noticed. That is a great breakfast. I wish the bacon was crispier but they gave you a bunch and the eggs were soft scrambled & even Gordon Ramsay would approve. The hashbrowns were crispy outside, soft inside, french toast was delicious and they give you so much syrup, you'll never drink it all haha We ended up with the banana cream pie as dessert and the filling was delicious. Loved the creme bruleed banana part but wasn't crazy about the pie crust. It was so dense and for a dessert of that price($11) that fits in the palm of my hand, most of it was crust which held together nicely but overpowered the piece. Sadly we had a very average time this visit for a high price tag. Went for my husband's birthday dinner which we noted on reservation and had a lovely table outside on the porch. Lovely weather and tasty cold salmon appetizer and bread service with good cocktails. Unfortunately the trout special was almost inedible with overcooked fish, hammered squash and an off putting red sauce. The hamburger was well done on medium rare order and egg on top was hard cooked. Lamb was decent but also overcooked. Nothing for birthday just a happy birthday comment as check was presented. We went there for lunch on Monday. The service was great and so was the food. My wife has 3 half size apps for lunch. She had the soup, the fries and the smoked salmon. I had the fish entree. We loved the food. We then had two desserts for fun, and they were fantastic. All server recommendations. If we ever visit Atlanta again, this is a go to spot. Where to even begin... the view in the back that goes out onto the water is absolutely lovely. I'd keep coming back here just for the views. The service was great... quick, helpful, polite... no complaints here. We ordered the some of each pastry basket. The scones were very good and the accompanied butters were excellent. The pecan sticky buns were absolutely delightful. We also tried the smoked salmon in crispy potato which is apparently the thing to get here. This appetizer was absolutely delicious, a must try. My friend got the burger which he really seemed to enjoy. I ordered the salmon eggs Benedict. My entree was good, not great. It was tasty but unfortunately came out cold and the potatoes on the dish were hard and cold as well. I'm thinking this may have been a fluke and bad timing. A dinner of excellence. I would not change a thing. Celebrating a big birthday and Canoe did a fabulous job from outstanding service to a wonderful meal. From the moment we entered they acknowledged our celebration and guest of honor. Our server did such a great job of timing our meal and not rushing us. It was really an enjoyable evening. Meal started with lovely oysters that were so fresh. We also enjoyed the scallop appetizer. Bread service could be a course itself and there are so many delicious choices it's hard to decide which to try first. Then a nice salad that the table shared that had seasonal and local fresh ingredients. Entrees included everything from halibut to rabbit to the daily special. A quick side note is days before Canoe had flooded due to the hurricane and they did not miss a beat. Top notch service, food and place to dine. $$$$ read more

We went there for my husband's birthday. He's been wanting to go here for years, and made sure we made reservations over a month in advance. This place did not disappoint! There is valet parking which is free and they do take Venmo for tip. Our server was fantastic. She was attentive, gracious and provided excellent recommendations. The restaurant itself their makes your think your in an upside down canoe or in a boat house. Very on theme with the name. The bread was homemade, and the walnut and cranberry/raisin were incredible. We ordered two appetizers, the calamari and the kangaroo Wellington. The calamari was delicious amazing flavors. The kangaroo was very good, the mushrooms and sauce were very strong with the flavors. My husband got the pork chop and risotto. He liked them both very much. I got the venison and the tortellini. Pasta was homemade, you could taste that immediately. The cheese blend was good except for the blue cheese. It wasn't equally balanced and blew out the taste. The venison was cooked perfectly, but after the cut it, I could really get the flavoring in the middle (which is a shame, the two ends were packed with flavor). For dessert, we ordered the strawberry soft pretzel bread pudding. I would have come here JUST for that dessert. The soft pretzel absorbed all the mixture and it was on point. Highly recommend. Before we drove back home, we hung out in their garden area on the water. There's also a space for a wedding (where there was one going on at that time) and a cocktail reception. Canoe is really good. First the good stuff, the restaurant is immaculate and has incredible views of the river. Service is first class. Food presentation is very nice. We had a group of half dozen friends and everyone enjoyed their meal. My choice was steak and eggs and sticky bun off the brunch menu. Great place to bring a date. Plenty of free and valet parking. Nice gardens outside and we enjoyed short stroll along the river. The not so good. Several of us got the steak and eggs. We liked it, the steak was shaved; but we expected a nice piece of whole steak. Also one guy got the french toast and it came out cold and he had to send it back. No complementary selection of bread during Sunday brunch, but can be ordered off the menu. Canoe is expensive and other tables were celebrating special days like birthdays. I really wanted to give this restaurant an outstanding review but Canoe fell flat for me. They started out strong with the kangaroo appetizer which was AMAZING, probably one of the best first bites of meat I've ever had and honestly the only reason I'm giving this restaurant a 4/5 and not a 3/5. The rabbit was just fine, I honestly enjoyed the pasta that accompanied it far more than the game itself. Also, the service was incredibly subpar for what I expected from a white table cloth restaurant. One waiter came around and almost gave us the wrong food. Additionally, my boyfriend and I came to canoe to celebrate his birthday and I left a note to the waiters telling them about this special occasion. However, as you can see, on our dessert plate says "happy anniversary." And the atmosphere is ideal for a romantic brunch, lunch, or dinner looking over the river. It also seems to be quite popular for families too. I went here with friends for my birthday dinner. I read a ton of reviews talking about how great this place was so I was hyped. The place itself is very nice. There's complimentary valet. Our server was so great, he deserves the world. The food though was just fine. I think I'm harsher on pricier restaurants because if I'm spending a lot on a meal, I expect it to wow me but it was just ok. Everything was cooked perfectly there was nothing technically wrong with it it was just kind of bland. My cream puff was tasty but the pastry was a little hard. We were greeted right away by the hostess who also confirmed we were there to celebrate a special occasion. Our waitress came right over as we were seated and got us water while she gave us time to peruse the menu. We ordered Manhattans to start and while we waited for our shared appetizer, they brought the bread basket. Charcuterie board had a nice assortment. Two cheeses, pickles, chicken pate and a chorizo and a salami along with toasted sourdough. For entrees I had the duck breast and my companion had the panko crusted cod. For dessert, I really wanted to try the chocolate cake but sadly they were out, so I went with the popcorn sundae and he had the sorbet. Service was excellent! Our waitress was extremely knowledgeable about the menu. She was able to make good suggestions and anticipated all our needs. The food was good. I was a bit disappointed in the food as my expectations for what's touted as one of the best restaurants in Atlanta would be raving reviews but sadly I was underwhelmed. It was just ok. Food lacked flavor and presentation was average. The service would bring me back to try again but I will also mention that noise level was loud! Atlanta Institution! We finally visited Canoe for our anniversary. It was fantastic. They printed a special menus with a message of congratulations from the staff which was a sweet touch that we took home as a keepsake. Everything we are was delish however, I am writing from memory so I don't want to say we ate anything specific. I do know we came out of it happy and full. The wine was paired for us based on preferences. I would live to go back on a weekday evening. We were there on a Friday night, so it was full and a bit loud so I would like to experience it during a less busy night. But yes, please experience Canoe! read more

IT'S ALL TRUE!! NO LIES DETECTED HERE! Yes, all the positive reviews about Canoe are spot on! We had a small company department holiday dinner here in early December and were all completely blown away by the ambiance, the service, and the food. While prices are not cheap, it was quite reasonable for an upscale restaurant with the quality of the food you get here. I personally had ordered: Canoe's House Smoked Salmon, Crispy Potato Cake, Creamy Goat's Cheese - Recommended by our server. It's basically an upscale version of smoked salmon and cream cheese. It's quite decadent and definitely a sharing size. I had enough to take back to my hotel room for a late night snack. Wood Grilled 8oz Beef Tenderloin, Hop'd Potatoes, Watercress, Cheddar Mustard - I ordered this without the Cheddar Mustard (not a mustard fan) and it was absolutely delicious, even without the sauce, although I would have probably enjoyed an alternative sauce offering. And we ordered 1 of each dessert for the table (you can see all 7 in the photo): German Chocolate Cake, Pecans, Caramel, Coconut Popcorn Ice Cream Sundae, Canoe's Peanut Cracker Jack, Chantilly Not Your Momma's Sweet Potato Pie, Vanilla Bean Cookie, Nougat, Fig Jam Sticky Bun Bread Pudding, Orange, Eggnog Ice Cream, Currants Champagne - Pear Sorbet, Cranberry & Raspberry Jam, Vanilla Tuile There were 2 other desserts that are not on the online menu, and I had forgotten to take a photo of the menu so I didn't get the actual names: S'mores Dessert Chocolaty Panna Cotta Creme Brulee All the desserts were amazing, but my favorite had to be the Chocolaty Panna Cota Creme Brulee one. I must say, this experience exceeded our expectations. Let's start with the cordial and heartfelt welcome by the Maitre'd, Terry. He described some of the historical significance from the Civil War and how Sherman began his march to Atlanta from this point on the Chattahoochee River. Our dinners were just as rich as our greeting. Our server, Jacob, described some key components of the menu and an intriguing special of flounder and risotto. Our choice was duck Marinated in jerk spices (not spicy) with risotto and pepper crusted kangaroo. Both dishes were super. We had a MOST delicious dessert of homemade ice cream vanilla swirled with caramel... with a side of house-made carmel corn with peanuts. You'd love eating here! read more

Canoe is possibly the best restaurant in Atlanta. Not only does their food all taste absolutely amazing (everyone knows that), but if you go for Brunch it's surprisingly affordable. So affordable that the taste-to-price ratio may be the best I've ever had in Atlanta. Never have I had a duck burger with delicious fries and a soft, fluffy bun, for $20. Combined with the the beautiful view of the Chattahoochee river it almost seems criminal how cheap it is. Although I can't speak for dinner, I'd highly recommend brunch at Canoe. You can get an all-star special at Waffle House for $12, or pay $8 more and literally be at the banks of the Chattahoochee being served on white table cloths by the finest hosts in Atlanta. I'll be back for brunch again, and most likely dinner as well. read more

It is excellent. Appetizers were exceptional, we took our server's advice and did not regret the seasonal pick. Mains were tasty - i don't find the duck i had particularly memorable, but it was competently cooked and everyone was happy. Desserts were some hits and misses. If you sit outside or inside on the bottom terrace you're immediately met with a gorgeous view of the Chattahoochee in Atlanta accompanied by the beauty of Canoe's backyard gardens. The food itself was exquisite. Canoe brings a flashy, unique touch to every dish, all without compromising the quality or deliciousness of it. My partner and I came here for our anniversary and the service from start to beginning was absolutely incredible. They had anniversary menus specifically for us, which I thought was a nice addition for anybody celebrating their anniversary here. The server that we had was extremely knowledgeable and she also gave us her own recommendations which led us to try foods that we have never tried before, such as kangaroo and rabbit, both of which were phenomenal! Other than the cod being a little underseasoned, everything was absolutely delicious and I have been recommending all of my friends to go try this restaurant. If I could, I would give 4/5 stars for the ambiance. The tables are pretty close together so it was pretty easy to hear other peoples conversations. The close proximity to others also made the area we were sitting in pretty loud and I had to talk with a raised voice most of the night. But overall, it was a great experience and I'll definitely be back to try more of the food! read more

Truthfully one of the best dining experiences I have ever had! It is nestled alongside the Chattahoochee river with its own garden and riverside walking paths. The food was superb: house smoked salmon, crispy shrimp salad with an excellent sauce, and a pork belly bolognese that was my favorite. The food was unique and delicious - from the salmon and kangaroo appetizers, to the rabbit and veal entrees, everything was fresh and well prepared. We sat on the patio which was clean and had an amazing view of the river. We noticed people enjoying a pre-dinner cocktail out in the yard seating, so don't be intimidated by a wait! I hadn't been to dinner at Canoe in years. I remember back when it was the only fine eating establishment in Vinings and Smyrna. My wife and I had an event any the Cobb Chamber so we my wife picked Canoe for dinner. The staff couldn't have been more accommodating. We asked for a table on the terrace since it was so noisy inside the building. We took a walk in the lovely garden to the Chattahoochee which is in Canoe's backyard. The fog over the cold river water was nice on a warm Georgia evening. The hostess tracked us down in he garden and escorted us to our table. An eager young man was our waiter and was determined to be a helpful and as cheerful as possible. My wife loved her drink -- a variation an Old Fashion. I had a glass of lovely Catena Malbec. So far, so good. Until the food came. Don't get e wrong. Everything was good. But that was the issue. It was only good, not great. It was beautifully served. And had been fussed over within an inch of its life. But: - The beet salad was overly sweet. It wasn't the balance of sweet and savory that makes me a fan of beet salad. Note too chef: you don't need to add sugar or honey to beet salad. Or maybe more feta to offset the sweetness. - The duck breast was only ok. Too greasy. Too tough. And a bit gamey. You might want to try another supplier, retrain the chefs, look for a better recipe, or take it off the menu. - The dessert was sweet but forgettable. - All the items were priced for gourmet dining. But the food fell short. Ambience: 5-stars on the terrace, 3 very noisy stars inside. Service: 4-stars to the waiter, 5 to the hostess and the valet parking guy. Food: 3-stars. We haven't been here in a few years. We were in the area and were looking for a nice place to eat. Canoe came up. Oh yea. Great food and ambiance, hell yea. We made a reservation (recommended) and showed up right on time. Valet parking is super awesome. Drive right up and walk in. Nice. We were immediately taken to our table. Steve was our waiter. He was super helpful. He gave us some really great suggestions and told us the specials of the day. They all sounded fantastic. We ordered our drinks and appetizers. We ordered the crab cakes and calamari. What a start. The appetizers were as expected, excellent. We next ordered our entree. We got two of the specials and a steak filet. Mussels and an Alaskan fish plate special were both very good. The steak was tender and, as ordered, med/rare. Wow. I'm so glad we remembered this place. We finished with some desserts. I had the popcorn flavored one and also ordered the Lava Cake. Again, both were good. The entire meal, from beginning to end, was fantastic. Steve helped us make some real good choices. We really enjoyed his excitement. His recommendations were spot on. The ambiance is awesome. On the river. Inside or out, the view is nice and really adds to the whole experience of this place.
