I was so excited to stumble across this "old time" candy shop while in Monterey. I got a few things of candy and a couple of post cards. Rang up $4.91 handed her my card.... cashier tells me that they don't do card transactions for under $5.00. I encourage my boyfriend to pick a chocolate from the case to get me over the $5 mark. Standing in front of the case, he points down and asks for a dark chocolate almond cluster (the size of the circle your thumb and index finger make.) She disappears, comes back rings us up, charges my card and comes back wth a receipt to sign for $14.36. She had decided on the cluster the size of an appetizer plate without telling us creating A single piece of chocolate for $10! The candy was stale and disgusting. The chocolate was decent but not worth $10. Although the $14 isn't much, it's an insane amount on candy especially when we expected to spend $6 at most...... Rip off and totally crooked workers. The store named CandyLand but mostly just taffy and belly jelly. The staff was very rude. We spent a total $50 for candies here but she refused to give us an extra spoon for ice cream. Her excuse was because we ordered only one scoop ($4). It's terrible. Won't take my family here again. read more

My son and I came in around 2 pm and it was ok with a few people inside. I picked a red bucket and started filling it up. I didn't realize that if I bought taffy, Kit Kat bars, and Pop Rocks they were all going to be weighed in for one single price. They sell fudge at 1/4 pound. I got four pieces of different flavors. They were all a different sizes! On top of that the store is extremely packed with candy and trying to checkout with people walking around sucks especially if you're ordering fudge. Customer service could be better but it's a tourist spot so I can see their frustrations at times but still not an excuse. read more

Very over priced. The prices were not listed for the chocolates and when asked the price the guy at the register said $5 for a piece of chocolate. My friend questioned that they heard it correctly. Guy was very rude in the manner in which he repeated it, the way he spoke to my friend and rolled his eyes when my friend decided not to buy it (there are tons of normally priced candy stores within blocks) felt very rude and disrespectful. I get they have prime real estate and plenty of tourist to keep their business going, so they don't really have to be nice to their customers, but I would like to think that they would still try to be! No one was in there or working the whole time we were in there just a lady who didn't speak English watching us from the store across from it. She kept watching us not saying anything walking up to the door stare and walk away. Finally asked her if it was open I guess she didn't understand me I then asked if anybody was working she walked away and said 1 minuet. Waited 5 minutes and some girl finally walked in. I almost walked out as fast as I walked in. Staff was ridiculously rude! It was as if I was inconveniencing them just being there! Would give a 0 if possible. Ridiculously overpriced and the taffy was AWFUL, I've had a lot of taffy in my life and this was by far the worst. I almost thought about returning the following day and asking for a refund. Be sure to sample a piece before you decide to buy. Now that I can buy it for my disabled son IT'S NOT FOR SALE! All though it has TWO price tags of $349.00 and another of $299.00. Very contradicting! I live and work here in Monterey now for 12 years! I will never return to your establishment nor will send anymore tourist or co workers or friends to your store ever again! Oh my god, this was the worst value-for-price chocolate turtle I've ever had. Chocolates were priced at $30/pound!! The almonds were not that tasty; I prefer a dry- roasted almond with a little more crunch and flavor. There was too much caramel, which made it just a little too sweet and probably helped them crank up the weight. Couldn't taste the chocolate over the caramel and almonds but assume it was good? Definitely won't go back, or if we do we'll stick with taffees! read more

I walked in here because from a distance all the colors were visually appealing, but I guess my first clue about quality should have when I got inside and noticed the novelty "Number 2" pencils. With a turd on top of the pencil. Get it? Number 2? Waca, waca... So I turned my attention to the colorful different flavors of fudge, and I zeroed in on the red velvet fudge because I am a red velvet maniac. I had to try it. I paid $5 for a thick slice of THE WORST fudge I have ever had the displeasure of tasting. It was like eating chemical-y plastic fudge. Bland plastic, at that. Disappointing on so many levels. I could have been happy with it if it at least tasted like CHOCOLATE. It did not! Never mind any red velvet flavor! Cute small store that offers all sorts of candy. They even have nostalgic candy that reminded me of what I used to buy at the ice cream man or get during halloween when I was younger: cigarette gum, zotz (fizz candy), etc. But the prices are steep and the taffy was not that enjoyable. Hugely regret not reading yelp reviews for this place before visiting. It was exactly as described in all the poor reviews. The candy was hugely overpriced $15/lb for salt water taffy! And it was nothing special at all. No prices marked anywhere and the cashiers are super busy + rude to entertain your questions while serving other customers. Almost everyone got sticker shock when presented with the receipt - by the time it is too late to back out without disappointing your kiddos. Shady businesses in a hugely popular touristy locations need to die, but unfortunately wont - they have a steady supply of unsuspecting chumps. Nice scam Candyland! read more

I love this place, but I hate the prices. LOL. The fudge was $5.00 per 1/4 of a lb. We always come here for the fudge. We got two slices of chocolate bacon just two slices was $8.00 anyway we ended up spending over $40.00 on barely anything really. That's the only reason i don't give it 5 stars. i simply love salt water taffy and CandyLand is your one stop shop for taffy and many other candies. They have dozens of flavors of taffy including sour, fruity, savory, spicy, etc. with a very large selection of sugar free taffy. In addition to the taffy they have a large selection of contemporary candy (e.g. M&Ms, Jelly Beans) and classical candy (e.g. Mary Janes, Chick-0-Sticks, etc.) for every taste. Much of it is sold by weight and is a bit on the pricey side. The folks working their were helpful and pleasant which is always a plus. I can definitely recommend a visit here. read more

It was a very lovely store with a wide variety of options, but yesterday 4-6-19 between 3:45 and 4:45 (I can't remember the exact time we went in) the brunette woman working behind the counter was super awful to us. We purchased a tube to fill with their powdered candy. When we proceeded to fill the tube, the majority of the powder's would not release from the opening. It was clear they hadn't been used in a while, which was no problem for us, and the candy had possibly gotten moist and clogged the hole. Nonetheless, we let them know and asked for a refund on just the tube which I believe was less then $3. The gentleman working was awesome and did the refund for my boyfriend with no problems. The woman, I didn't catch her name, grabbed the tube and went over to the candy dispenser saying "not that I don't believe you, but I need to check". Before trying to see if the candy would release, she pounded her fist on the view window to the powder. Obviously this released whatever gunk build up there was, and the powder released. She looked at me and said "I don't know why he said it doesn't work" Are you kidding me? I don't know about her, but I was raised to respect others property, and would never in a million years ball my fist up and punch a candy machine in a shop full of children. But I guess my boyfriend and I were in the wrong for not hitting it? Whatever. We had an awesome trip, and her sourpuss attitude, and accusatory tone didn't ruin our day. I will never shop at CandyLand again! The clerk was very unfriendly and unprofessional. He weighed my candy, took my money and left the opened bag on the scale without even a "Thank You". I had to remove the opened bag from the scale, attach a twist tie and tell him "Thank You" for allowing me to have the privilege of shopping at his store. Very poor service!! He never cracked a smile!! How can a person be so miserable working in a candy shop? I will buy my saltwater taffy at the candy store up the street from CandyLand. This place is fun, but very crowded. It is a typical candy store with lots of taffy. The pricing was not too bad. I got about 20 pieces of taffy for $5, which i think is pretty reasonable. WE been here before many times in the past. our kids love the shop because of so many candy to choose from. i was so surprice who ever is the owner raised the price to high! my wife asked how much a pound of candy.the young lady that was front counter she said $16 per pound. our jaws dropped!!! Just 3 to 4 years ago we went there it was $7 to $8 dollar a pound. so what happend here? why they raised the candy price.ws it because it was Mother's day. the candy high price is so ridiculous. We were so disappointed We just walked out with our boys with there sad face. we told them we will buy candy at another store.Candyland is over priced.
