So expensive. Terrible chocolate. I ordered peanut butter cups, chocolate covered Oreos, and a salted Carmel milk chocolate. #regret

I was so excited to stumble across this "old time" candy shop while in Monterey. I got a few things of candy and a couple of post cards. Rang up $4.91 handed her my card.... cashier tells me that they don't do card transactions for under $5.00. I encourage my boyfriend to pick a chocolate from the case to get me over the $5 mark. Standing in front of the case, he points down and asks for a dark chocolate almond cluster (the size of the circle your thumb and index finger make.) She disappears, comes back rings us up, charges my card and comes back wth a receipt to sign for $14.36. She had decided on the cluster the size of an appetizer plate without telling us creating A single piece of chocolate for $10! The candy was stale and disgusting. The chocolate was decent but not worth $10. Although the $14 isn't much, it's an insane amount on candy especially when we expected to spend $6 at most...... Rip off and totally crooked workers. Don't buy from here. read more

I hate going into stores and they have discussing rap music playing. If you are going to play music, play something that the older generation can enjoy read more

NO STAR! Wow i wish i had seen these reviews before i walked in that store and attempted to buy anything! Please don't go here they are absolute CROOKS! All smiles and friendly ripping you off completely until you question the quality like how old their disgusting chocolate has been sitting and their prices! the witch behind the counter all smiles and claims oh its not old its cuz its cold...but i'm like okay why are the pieces next to it not the same color and cold? so okay its only 2.99 fine but can you get rocky road too just a small tiny piece...ok...seven dollars for a tiny piece quarter size rocky road? oh, its 35 dollars a pound...wtf? so i say no i don't want it and she says well then you owe 2.43 cents...i'm like you just said 2.99 for those pieces? i say i don't want it and she throws my money back at me? i'm like okay u r ripping me off completely straight to my face but you throw my money back at me like some disgruntled spoiled child? No wonder the old bag works at a candy store...i'm sure no one else will have her frumpy ass! read more

Horrible and overpriced chocolate fudge. Tasted like straight up sugar on sugar with no chocolate whatsoever. :(

For the price, it definitely isn't worth it. I got a few pieces of candy for the kids and the total was $20!!! I could've gone to Target and got a good amount of candy for that price. They do offer a huge variety of candy though. If you like different flavors of taffy, you'll find it here. If you like candy that are hard to find in stores, you'll find it here. But you will pay the price for it. read more

My son and I came in around 2 pm and it was ok with a few people inside. I picked a red bucket and started filling it up. I didn't realize that if I bought taffy, Kit Kat bars, and Pop Rocks they were all going to be weighed in for one single price. They sell fudge at 1/4 pound. I got four pieces of different flavors. They were all a different sizes! On top of that the store is extremely packed with candy and trying to checkout with people walking around sucks especially if you're ordering fudge. Customer service could be better but it's a tourist spot so I can see their frustrations at times but still not an excuse. read more

Do not go here for taffy. It's $15/lb which I figured if it cost that much it should taste good. Nope. The taffy was hard as a rock which indicates it's old and stale. read more

The store named CandyLand but mostly just taffy and belly jelly. The staff was very rude. We spent a total $50 for candies here but she refused to give us an extra spoon for ice cream. Her excuse was because we ordered only one scoop ($4). It's terrible. Won't take my family here again. read more

SO MUCH FUCKING CANDY! But CandyLand's just not for me... I hate taffy and jawbreakers and I'm not really into fudge. Chewy Spree, chocolate covered almonds, and Haribo cola bottles are all I need, and they had them, so yay! But I got just a small handful, a few pieces of each... and it came to nearly $6. I'll just stick to the random 25 cent machines in my town. read more

This is a fun place to go and grab some needed sugar. They have a HUGE selection of everything sweet. The fudge is great! The only downside is how expensive this place is. I buy a bag of candy and usually spend about 15 to 17 bucks! eek! read more

This place is VERY over priced!! The little bag of candy we bought was $12.00...ridiculous!! And the sour watermelon gummies were stale. Buy candy at another store. read more

Would give a 0 if possible. Ridiculously overpriced and the taffy was AWFUL, I've had a lot of taffy in my life and this was by far the worst. I almost thought about returning the following day and asking for a refund. Be sure to sample a piece before you decide to buy. The best piece of candy I had was the mini snickers I added to my bag... And even that was a little stale. read more

I almost walked out as fast as I walked in. Staff was ridiculously rude! It was as if I was inconveniencing them just being there! I asked how much the taffy went for and they huffed and puffed before they answered like i was bothering them! I just don't get it! You work in customer service! If you don't want to be there then leave and let someone have that job who actually wants it! Anyway, bought some taffy...cupcake taffy was tasty, other than that I'd never step foot in that place ever again...there's tons of other candy stores on that street so go elsewhere! read more

Very over priced. The prices were not listed for the chocolates and when asked the price the guy at the register said $5 for a piece of chocolate. My friend questioned that they heard it correctly. Guy was very rude in the manner in which he repeated it, the way he spoke to my friend and rolled his eyes when my friend decided not to buy it (there are tons of normally priced candy stores within blocks) felt very rude and disrespectful. I get they have prime real estate and plenty of tourist to keep their business going, so they don't really have to be nice to their customers, but I would like to think that they would still try to be! We also aren't poor, and can afford over priced chocolate if we wanted, but didn't want to support this guy's business. read more

Thanks for destroying my 6 year old son XMAS Mr.Rodd Riggz!!!!!!! For two years now I have seen your Thomas the choo choo train for sale collecting dust! Now that I can buy it for my disabled son IT'S NOT FOR SALE! All though it has TWO price tags of $349.00 and another of $299.00. Very contradicting! I live and work here in Monterey now for 12 years! I will never return to your establishment nor will send anymore tourist or co workers or friends to your store ever again! I will also write a comment everyday about how you destroyed a six year olds Christmas! Thanks again for the worst experience and thanks for having for me to explain to my son why he couldn't have his choo choo train this year! I will be posting again tomorrow read more

Oh my god, this was the worst value-for-price chocolate turtle I've ever had. Chocolates were priced at $30/pound!! The almonds were not that tasty; I prefer a dry- roasted almond with a little more crunch and flavor. There was too much caramel, which made it just a little too sweet and probably helped them crank up the weight. Couldn't taste the chocolate over the caramel and almonds but assume it was good? Definitely won't go back, or if we do we'll stick with taffees! read more

I walked in here because from a distance all the colors were visually appealing, but I guess my first clue about quality should have when I got inside and noticed the novelty "Number 2" pencils. With a turd on top of the pencil. Get it? Number 2? Waca, waca... So I turned my attention to the colorful different flavors of fudge, and I zeroed in on the red velvet fudge because I am a red velvet maniac. I had to try it. I paid $5 for a thick slice of THE WORST fudge I have ever had the displeasure of tasting. It was like eating chemical-y plastic fudge. Bland plastic, at that. Disappointing on so many levels. I could have been happy with it if it at least tasted like CHOCOLATE. It did not! Never mind any red velvet flavor! Save your money, your taste buds, and your sense of decency...walk past this place. read more

Cute small store that offers all sorts of candy. They even have nostalgic candy that reminded me of what I used to buy at the ice cream man or get during halloween when I was younger: cigarette gum, zotz (fizz candy), etc. But the prices are steep and the taffy was not that enjoyable. The taffy at Pier 39 in SF knocks this place off the maps. read more

OK... here's the scoop. I LOVE FUDGE and they have the best in the west!!!!!

No one was in there or working the whole time we were in there just a lady who didn't speak English watching us from the store across from it. She kept watching us not saying anything walking up to the door stare and walk away. Finally asked her if it was open I guess she didn't understand me I then asked if anybody was working she walked away and said 1 minuet. Waited 5 minutes and some girl finally walked in. Only reason we stayed was because our daughter picked all her candy already and we weren't going to make her put it back. read more

Big selection of candy in barrel after barrel. We go back whenever we visit because it truly is a "candyland" through an 8-year-old's eyes. I'm not that impressed though for two reasons: The candy often tastes stale, and the prices are outrageous. read more

They have so many different types of candy it was crazy. They had some candies from when I was a kid and I don't see anymore. But over crowded. The store organization is not so great. Need to figure out another way to display the candy. read more

I love this place, but I hate the prices. LOL. The fudge was $5.00 per 1/4 of a lb. We always come here for the fudge. We got two slices of chocolate bacon just two slices was $8.00 anyway we ended up spending over $40.00 on barely anything really. That's the only reason i don't give it 5 stars. They should lower their prices. I should have gotten the fudge at Fisherman's Wharf, those were $3.95, a lil cheaper. read more

The store is pricey! The taffy is tasty but the Candy Baron's taffy is fresher. I only go for taffy so I will prob always go toCandy Baron from now on. read more

Met the owner and had a nice chat. He's got a great back story, stick around and you'll be cracking up for sure. Check his place out it's worth the time. Our family enjoyed his famous taffy along with some cute souvenirs. The location is perfect, next to everything. This is a family tradition going on several generations. read more

i simply love salt water taffy and CandyLand is your one stop shop for taffy and many other candies. They have dozens of flavors of taffy including sour, fruity, savory, spicy, etc. with a very large selection of sugar free taffy. In addition to the taffy they have a large selection of contemporary candy (e.g. M&Ms, Jelly Beans) and classical candy (e.g. Mary Janes, Chick-0-Sticks, etc.) for every taste. Much of it is sold by weight and is a bit on the pricey side. The folks working their were helpful and pleasant which is always a plus. I can definitely recommend a visit here. read more

Hugely regret not reading yelp reviews for this place before visiting. It was exactly as described in all the poor reviews. The candy was hugely overpriced $15/lb for salt water taffy! And it was nothing special at all. No prices marked anywhere and the cashiers are super busy + rude to entertain your questions while serving other customers. Almost everyone got sticker shock when presented with the receipt - by the time it is too late to back out without disappointing your kiddos. Shady businesses in a hugely popular touristy locations need to die, but unfortunately wont - they have a steady supply of unsuspecting chumps. Nice scam Candyland! read more

Arcade games totally rip you off~ stole my money and then when I asked them about it, I was told it happens all the time. 2 dollars short and not enthused about being ripped off. read more

Love the look of this store! It is just outside the Bubba Gump's restaurant and makes for a great dessert stop. However, you can do better!! The cashier seemed peeved that I dared to purchase candy. When I asked for prices, she mumbled some indecipherable phrases about meeting their "minimum." We didn't get a thank you for our "over the minimum" purchase. But, that's OK, we won't be back. read more

It's fun to look at all the varieties of salt water taffy that they have. They have a big array of various candy and gifts. Hell, you can even get a large blanket or a set of throw pillows with Justin Beiber's face on it for an outrageously expensive price! Haha. Overall, it's a fun place to look. read more

This place is CRAZY EXPENSIVE. And the candy is stale! Almost broke my teeth on a few occasions trying to eat what we had. We got a few bags of candy and the cashier told us it was like 150 dollars! Holy crap! The cashier didn't even blink when she told us it was 150 dollars. Go someplace else, anywhere else, just not this place. read more

Bought Rocky Road fudge and 2 days later it was covered in mold. Not sure how long marshmallows last but I know they last a looong time. Has me wondering how old the fudge was and how old the marshmallows were before they went in. Youd think it was fresh for how much they charge! read more

Very expensive, not overly friendly. Any candy I bought in bulk was stale, stale, stale. Just do a pinch test yourself before buying. Rock hard (when it's supposed to be soft candy...)hmmmm...nothing very fresh here! The only thing fresh here are the prices. Holy cow! Totally overpriced! read more

I will never shop at CandyLand again! The clerk was very unfriendly and unprofessional. He weighed my candy, took my money and left the opened bag on the scale without even a "Thank You". I had to remove the opened bag from the scale, attach a twist tie and tell him "Thank You" for allowing me to have the privilege of shopping at his store. Very poor service!! He never cracked a smile!! How can a person be so miserable working in a candy shop? I will buy my saltwater taffy at the candy store up the street from CandyLand. If I could I would rate this place zero stars. read more

It was a very lovely store with a wide variety of options, but yesterday 4-6-19 between 3:45 and 4:45 (I can't remember the exact time we went in) the brunette woman working behind the counter was super awful to us. We purchased a tube to fill with their powdered candy. When we proceeded to fill the tube, the majority of the powder's would not release from the opening. It was clear they hadn't been used in a while, which was no problem for us, and the candy had possibly gotten moist and clogged the hole. Nonetheless, we let them know and asked for a refund on just the tube which I believe was less then $3. The gentleman working was awesome and did the refund for my boyfriend with no problems. The woman, I didn't catch her name, grabbed the tube and went over to the candy dispenser saying "not that I don't believe you, but I need to check". Before trying to see if the candy would release, she pounded her fist on the view window to the powder. Obviously this released whatever gunk build up there was, and the powder released. She looked at me and said "I don't know why he said it doesn't work" Are you kidding me? I don't know about her, but I was raised to respect others property, and would never in a million years ball my fist up and punch a candy machine in a shop full of children. But I guess my boyfriend and I were in the wrong for not hitting it? Whatever. We had an awesome trip, and her sourpuss attitude, and accusatory tone didn't ruin our day. Would definitely visit again as long as she wasn't working. read more

Seriously, go somewhere else. There's a shop across the street that sells candy that somehow is better and not the cost of a Ferrari. This place is garbage. read more

This place is fun, but very crowded. It is a typical candy store with lots of taffy. The pricing was not too bad. I got about 20 pieces of taffy for $5, which i think is pretty reasonable.
