Had a little trip to the aquarium today and forgot our sweaters so we bought some at this store. After I had put the sweater on I noticed this bug crawling on me didn't think anything of it. My fiancé later found the same bug on him but a smaller size. Then once we checked ourselves and realized they were coming from INSIDE our sweaters!!! Five & Dime...not sure what's the story behind the name. Not a damn thing in this store costs a dime. I would describe it as a general store or souvenir shop. After leaving the Monterey Bay Aquarium, I really needed some water. That was all I was planning to buy. Just water. For $3.25 + CRV....how?!?!? I ended up looking around at all the cute souvenirs (mugs, hoodies, t-shirts, shot glasses, etc). They are pricey, but, that's to be expected. I ended up grabbing a keychain with a sea otter...because it's cute and it's functional. Can one have too many keychains??? I think not. LOL. read more

We miss going to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Parking was easy and there were not many people out. We arrived early and spotted the 5 and Dime. I've been here before as a kid with my parents and brother. My husband, son and I stopped by. There is one entrance and one exit. There were two employees that greeted us from afar. We were just browsing. My son picked up a few items: one shark puppet one shark missile ball one gun with darts one jumbo bag of toy soldiers one shark magnet for our fridge I picked up a California Bear jute bag The 5 and Dime is awesome as you will find endless souvenirs and toys. What was impressive was their sundries aisle with medicine (headache pills, allergy medicine like Benadryl, etc.) they also had a decent selection of snacks and candies. The only issue was there were certain parts of the shop where items were dusty. It's a huge store and for the most part super organized and cleaned. During this pandemic they have sanitizers for their customers. They require mask wearing and social distancing. The prices seem fair and on par with Amazon. Amazing selection of small gift items and good customer service. This is a decent little store. If you're in need of snacks, drinks, toiletries, or souvenirs, you'll find a good selection here. We came here for water and to check out the souvenirs. We found a lot of unique mugs, magnets, postcards, toiletry items, apparel, hats, and other accessories. I can't say the service was great here, but we did find almost everything we needed. If you're staying at one of the hotels in Cannery Row and need some items quickly, this Five & Dime is a good find! read more

Aside from the usual gifts they also have many items that you would find in a convenient store. And be sure to hit up the clearance rack for some great deals! This is a great little convenient store if you're vacationing on the Row and you need a quick fix. Chapped lips on my 6 year old was cured with a tub of Aquaphor because the hotel doesn't carry these necessities. You also need to check out the Monterey attire, because let's face it, we all want a sweatshirt that commemorates your vacation. I always end up getting my little girl a new sweatshirt from Five and Dime every time we visit Monterey. read more

Definitely a good spot for out-of-towners looking for basic necessities (like drinks and snacks) as well as souvenirs and other little knik knaks. Consumers stay away from this place! I won't advise anyone to visit it! Though the product range is good, the quality is not worth buying it at all! Moreover the customer service is very poor as well. They don't care about making the client at least satisfied, not even happy. We bought some souvenirs today and were offered the free bag. In a few minutes after we left the store the bag handle torn that caused the mug broke in pieces. We came back to the store immediately, explained the situation and showed them the damage. The sellers (NATHAN CASTRO and ALINE HERNANDEZ) just shrugged their shoulders saying they cannot help in this situation and their manager was not available. It was about 8:40 pm on Saturday. We left the store very disappointed and distressed. They spoiled our mood for the evening. Instead of purchasing the nice souvenirs as the memory from Monterey, we got the awfullest attitude and quality of products... Almost all store last use paper bags, but we have never faced this poor quality and unresponsive consumer service from anyone ever!!!!! read more

"That ain't horse shit, that's bullshit !" Yup, my children and I cannot get enough of Five & Dime. It's a definite stop whenever we are at the peninsula. There's plenty of knick knacks here, from whoopee cushions, souvenir shirts and hoodies, wall decors, chili sauce etc. There's an ATM here too. The store is along Cannery Row, right across the Ghirardelli shop. They're open until late and the staff is very laid back. Prices in the store are alright. Don't expect cheap, as this is a specialty store. Parking is metered and in front of the store. Lots of stores to check out next door too. Check out their assorted chili bottles when you're in the store! read more

A customer was yelling at one of the workers because she didn't have the size that he was looking for, like it was her fault that they were out. People should be more understand and not feel like they are being disrespected over something the employees can't control. Five and Dime General store Is filled with many items to chose from ( shirts, magnets, snacks, toys and many more). I had a great time shopping there. Staff was really nice and helpful. If you're ever in Monterey don't forget to stop at five and Dime, definitely worth it. I will be coming back next summer. read more

Went in to buy a few things. My total was $60. The ditz who was too busy chatting up her coworker at the register rung me up for $600. $600!!!!! HUGE oversight! She wasn't able to cancel the transaction. She suddenly started saying "oh no, oh no, oh no" and pressing the cancel button a million times...Anyways, She had rung my debit card, as a credit, so she returned it as a credit. So, I had to wait 4 business days to get my money back, and spend about an hour on the phone with my bank disputing overdraft fees of over $100( rent went through the day after this happened). The employee seemed sorry, but when she put me on the phone with the manager, Denise, she was very rude, not caring or sympathetic to my situation and said all she could do for me was give me a discount off my merchandise. Seriously? As if Id buy anything from your store now! When I said I'd write a bad review on Yelp, she said "go ahead" ...so here I am. I will never step foot in this store again.
