    Caramel Popcorn
    Miranda L.

Sweet tooth destination when strolling the Monterey Wharf Dessert: One can never go wrong with their conventional caramel and peanut apple. The apple was ripened and crunchy with the right amount of soft caramel. Depending on the day, the apples are not always crisp. The second must is the caramel popcorn which was freshly popped and served warmly to us in a cute red / white striped box to preserve its flavor. The cotton candy is buy 3 get 1 free and I encourage one to stick to the pink and blue. I usually skip the taffy since it's on the tougher side for me. Service: The employee was kind and helpful. It was quick service in and out. When it's a busy day though the line can look troublesome but it is always manageable for them. Ambiance: Same cute candy shop look since my childhood. I love the old fashion salt water taffy and popcorn industrial machines for kids to observe.

    Dark Chocolate English Toffee

As someone who grew up in the area, this is a nostalgic stop for some sweet treats. There are lots of candy confections, chocolates, an ice cream counter, & candied apples. I typically enjoy English Toffee or an English Toffee Apple that they will slice for you. This time around, we got some caramel corn. We found it tasty, but very caramelized to the point that some bites were hard on the teeth. It became easier & softer to eat the next day. Customer service was a straightforward experience. The shop is small & narrow, so it can fill up quickly with other customers. It smells wonderfully sugary sweet from the caramel corn.

I stop here every time I visit the wharf. I always get the carmel popcorn, a few pieces of chocolate and ice cream. Staff is friendly and they offer military discounts!

Great salt water taffy. I had chocolate covered bacon which was amazing. The salty taste from the bacon with the chocolate was a great mix. Kind of pricey because of being on the wharf.

Decent place to get candy on the wharf. They have chocolate, peanut brittle taffy and more. It's very busy and touristy. I've gotten things here over the years it's conveniently located.

omg... the peanut brittle!! If I ever come back to the Old Fisherman's Wharf in Monterey again it'll be just to buy their peanut brittle here at Carousel Candies. We spent a weekend in Monterey and we walked to the wharf from our place of stay. I bought $5 worth of peanut brittle just to try them because, you know, not all peanut brittle candies are created equal. This shop made theirs with lots of peanuts in them and the candy part is not too hard. We tried to come back to buy more the next day but we had already checked out of our hotel and looking for parking here on a weekend (even during Covid times) would be a b#&@! This candy shop is located right in the middle of the wharf. They have packaged candies, ice cream, caramel apples, fudge, caramel popcorns, salt water taffies... all made in house. Oh yah... have you tasted jalapeño peanut brittle before? Check out my pic below :) Review #1897

    Delish fresh taffy!
    Ashley M.

Love this little candy store. They have tons of chocolate sweets in cases and fresh caramel corn. Totally regretting not getting some caramel corn. We popped by to pick up just a couple pieces of saltwater taffy. They have large mixed bags but they also have individual pieces where you can create your own mix and it's sold by weight. The lady that helped us was super sweet. We ended up with 11 pieces for $2.87. The taffy was fresh an delish. Probably some of the best I've ever had. Salted caramel, salted chocolate, watermelon, Neapolitan, and banana chocolate.

I bought a small box to try different ones and every single piece was delicious. Also, the garden is so pretty! It is so peaceful and beautiful to sit there and enjoy my treats. The shop is very cute too, it fits the Carmel vibe perfectly. If you are a chocolate lover, you definitely need to stop by here. It's a bit pricey but totally worth it for the taste and the quality. The Xocolatl Garden was one of these random, unexpected, but wholly welcome finds: accessible either via a festoon-lit narrow alley from Ocean Avenue, or via a winding path leading north from Piccadilly Park, this absolutely enchanting hidden plaza, with its tiny shop against one wall, serenades you with its silence and solitude, and invites you in to sample some of the finest chocolates that the world has to offer! Hershey? Nestle? Never heard of 'em. This is real cacao, folks, for real enthusiasts, coming in hard or soft, rich or dark, and filled with everything from pistachio cream to red chili peppers, and a whole lot more! Brands and flavors you have never seen (and quite possibly may never see again) can be found here! If you have a sweet tooth of any level (even one that is virtually non-existent, as mine is), you're still likely to find a chocolate concoction of some sort to pleasure your palate!

The Turkish delights were basically edible art with petals, pistachios, and vibrant colors. And the baklava? Sitting there like it knew it was about to win. Unfortunately... looks were doing all the heavy lifting. Spent $28 on six small pieces and walked out excited--only to be let down. The Turkish delight tasted overly artificial, almost perfumey in a bad way. The marshmallow rolls had a weird paste-like texture. Baklava was fine, but nothing special. Also, the packaging? A struggle to close and somehow managed to give me a legit paper cut. Love that for me. Great location, beautiful presentation--but the taste just doesn't justify the price. Pretty, but meh.

Some people (like me) were given a buzzer thing that was supposed to let you know when your ice cream was ready to pick up at a separate counter. Some people where just asked their names and their names were called when their order was ready. Unfortunately, the person taking my order forgot to enter it into the computer system until I asked if my buzzer thing was working because it had taken an awfully long time to get a simple small shake. If you are able to find a seat outside at the rear of the store overlooking Monterey Bay the view is awesome, but there is not much of a view from inside seating nor the courtyard seating in the front of the store. They need an assigned person to patrol both inside and outside eating and seating areas since there is such a high volume of customers, the eating and seating surfaces need to be better cleaned. The shake was OK, nothing spectacular and it was less ice cream than milky (I saw them adding liquid to the ice cream machine just before my order was prepared so maybe it had not had enough time to freeze properly). As with most Cannery Row businesses there is no parking close by. This business does not seem to have any bathroom facilities nor anywhere for parents to wash off the sticky sweet treats from the hands and faces of their kids.

It didn't look like it died down which is awesome for this business. I believe I waited 20-30 minutes in line before I reached the display case. I also ordered a seasonal latte, I believe it was cherry chocolate with oat milk less sweet. There's a nice outdoor seating area with many tables in chairs. Since the weather was nice we decided to stop and eat for a bit. The ambience was very nice and calm. The food was delicious and their house made pickles were fantastic.
