First off let me say that I know CandyLand is located in a high traffic tourist destination. I am very well aware of why the prices at many boutiques/restaurants cost a tad more than in other areas of Monterey. However, there's no justification in the outrageously high price on their candy. I've bought candy at Fisherman's Wharf in SF for less and, frankly, it is a MUCH nicer tourist spot than Cannery Row. I also know the candy store located in Seaport Village in SD has lower prices as well. CandyLand is a total rip off. I was appalled when my total came up at $16 for the limited amount of candy I picked up. (see pic) The only reason they got 2 stars instead of 1 is because of their vast assortment of goodies from salt water taffy to fudge to nostalgic finds you can't get anywhere else. read more

Candy, Candy and more Candy! What attracted us to stop in were the many barrels of different favored taffy. There are so many to choose from - orange creme, strawberry cheesecake, rootbeer, cupcake, etc.. Besides taffy, there are classic candy choices as well as fresh fudge. Yum. The shop is a little overwhelming with every inch of space filled with something made of sugar. It would definitely be hard to walk around if the store was extremely busy. Service could be majorly improved. She wasn't very friendly or polite. I enjoyed the taffy choices we bought. They were delicious and tasty. Oh yeah.. I bought some fudge too. The cookies and cream fudge is as good as it sounds. Since it is in a high traffic tourist spot, the prices are a bit outrageous but nothing I haven't seen before. There was an unbelievable amount of colors in this shoppe. it was more of a tourist joint then anything else, but it was right across from the garlic lovers shoppe, and the bright vibrate colors just whisked me away to veer left instead of right. the barrels of candy they had in there was very old fashioned, and fitted the seaside perfectly. i was happy to pick up a few flavors of POP rocks, as my area usually only has strawberry or apple. i never tried chocolate flavor until that day when i stepped into that store. read more

This place is HORRIBLE. I understand that you are located in a high traffic tourist spot, however that does not give you the right to rip off your customers. We spend a little over $18.00 for our candy, when I got home I weighed the bags and we had less than 2 lbs of candy. My daughters piddly bag cost us over $8.00. With the amount of money you are ripping off from your customers, you would think you could pay your employees more. They are hell rude, and seriously look irritated when you ask them anything. Did someone say candy? Sold! I was in town to visit the aquarium today, and my S.O., brother-in-law, and I thought it would be fun to walk around the Cannery area. When I saw the sign for CandyLand, I knew I had to go in. They had all of my favorite Jelly Belly flavors: Toasted Marshmallow, Sizzling Cinnamon, and Watermelon, and they were all fresh. No stale jelly beans as I've gotten in the past from other places. Also a favorite? Chocolate-covered cookie dough. I know it may sound gross, but it's good. They also had other candy that I hadn't seen in awhile, including Zots, a Sugar Daddy as big as a small dog, and various other childhood favorites. They also had a LOT of flavors of salt water taffy. Having grown up on the East Coast, taffy has always been a staple and a reminder of vacations on the Cape or trips to the beaches in New Hampshire and Maine. No visit there was ever complete without at least a box as a souvenir. My S.O. decided to pick various flavors from the bins and took requests from me: I went for the more standard flavors since that's what I remember from childhood: watermelon, vanilla, peanut butter. He got a crazy assortment of flavors like margarita and pomegranate. It seemed a little pricey, but I think I got a lot of candy for the money, so maybe it wasn't that bad. Not sure how long this has been here but apparently quite some time... I have walked by here hundreds of times and never noticed it until the other day. I stopped in after a hitting up Chase bank a few hundred feet away and picked up a little bag of bulk candy and chocolate covered marshmallow. I would have gotten the chocolate covered jalapeno but 1.) wasn't sure when it was made and didn't want to bite into a soft jalapeno and 2.) I just came back from a week in Mexico and wanted to give my stomach a break. $7 for my sweet snacks, expensive but it was expected. read more

I love going here for the taffy. My FAVORITE is strange but insanely good! Maple Bacon Taffy! Yea. hahaha this place is very pricey tho. But you have to take in it is a tourist attraction. I dont know why there is about 3-4 stores in the area of less than a mile of each other... and they all have the same exact thing. One worker didnt seem too happy about being there(Here is a hint for the workers YOU ARE GETTING PAID, maybe smile a little? Just saying). And the payment method is kinda eh. Holy crap! It's like Hello Kitty meets Willy Wonka. Bright, shiny, unnatural edible fluorescence. The place stood out like a bonfire in a bathroom. It was impossible to miss despite the fact that I was looking in other direction. Went in, took photos of diabetes-land, and had a fun photo op with one the wooden guns. Man behind the counter seemed very irritated that potential customers were having a nice time. I was actually thinking about buying a couple of little things to take back home for my students, but after hearing a very loud sigh from the employee then seeing the clearly contemptible look on his face, I decided, "F you." I guess they expect their customers to come in, get harassed, not get any customer service, and decide to spend money anyway. WRONG. Thank goodness for tourists, eh? I never thought I could spend nearly $30 on TAFFY. I was instantly mesmerized by all the barrels of taffy in sight when I walked in and immediately started filling up the bucket with a little of almost every flavor they had. I was surprised that there was even a pomegranate flavor (hmm, what's next, acai berry?) Aside from taffy, there are a ton of classic candy favorites and homemade fudge, so there's something for everyone but since I was in Monterey, salt water taffy it is! Hits: Coconut taffy, (not so much coconutty but it reminds me of the taffy in Abba Zabba (minus the peanut butter)) and the mint-licorice caramels. Aside from looking super cool (it's a glossy black and white swirly cube), it's delish as hell. Misses: blueberry. Not so much a fan of the -berry flavors. read more

The taffy sounded really good, such as pomegranate, green apple, and popcorn. In addition, I love the different colors of the tafy! However, I resisted because the purchasing line was out the door, and I was too full from lunch to sweets. Thank goodness I didn't get any candy. I would not want to spend $12 per pound on taffy. CandyLand is a small candy store located on Cannery Row in downtown Monterey. It's packed full of different sorts of candy so it can get difficult to walk around, especially if you're carrying any large bags. They have a large assortment of salt water taffy and Jelly Belly flavors, and other gummies/chocolates, etc. However, the candy here is EXPENSIVE (to be expected, I guess), so be prepared for a steep bill if you purchase anything. read more

The cashier was a total ass! He made the experience horrible. He ignored my question when I asked for the breakdown of the pricing. And kept glaring at my boyfriend and I like we were pests not worthy to be in his shop. The candy was way overpriced: I paid $8.92 for not even a quarter pound worth of candy. ... It's $14 a pound! What the heck?!? And the only thing they actually have in there is taffy! About 6 flavors of classic flavored ice-cream, and chocolate cover things. This place is a scam, beware. They have a tiny sign on one end of the store that says there is a 1/4 lb minimum for candy (with letters about 1 inch tall, impossible to see in a store full of candy). We got our kids a few candies in a bag from a different area of the store, there was no such sign anywhere near it. It was only $1 and change by weight. They said minimum $4. We didn't want more candy. They said we couldn't return the candy we had picked out because they had a rule about that too. Buying packaged candy, the fudge, or other priced options to bring the price up to $4 also wasn't allowed. What is their problem? Went in with my 7 year old. He picked out a handful of Jolly Ranchers, which was all the candy he was allowed to get. We went up to the cashier, who acted like she didn't see us for just about as long as she possibly could. When she could no longer deny our existence, she grabbed the bag, tossed it on the scale, and then told us that it was store policy to not sell less than $4 worth of candy. We stopped in here just to check it out. They had so many different flavors of taffy we ended up buying some. We got to the register and had 3 packages if pop rocks that we were charged for, but when we got home they were nowhere to be found. Make sure you watch the Cashier closely. Don' let them pull a fast one on you. The candy flavors are very good, but they are not as fresh and as chewey as they should be. I probably would never come in here again. I love the wide variety of Taffy flavors available here!! Just to name a few, i've bought: Candy apple, caramel apple, passion fruit, huckleberry (?), cookie dough, guava, apple pie, mango, cran-raspberry, blue raspberry, strawberry, etc. But they also had other many many interesting flavors! They also have other kinds of small candy available and a good variety of fudges also! I bought 1.5lbs of taffy and it costed me $12. So I assume taffy is about $8 a pound? I would give this place more stars, but the are kind of on the expensive side; while I can understand a price hike for fudge, $15 for a little over a pound of taffy is pushing even my limits. Despite the price, they have just about every interesting flavor of taffy, I think my favorite is red licorice flavor taffy (and for you licorice buffs, they have TONS of black licorice candy). In fact, I bought what I like to call the "dark bullet". It's basically a gigantic black licorice jelly bean, and yes, it did give a strong kick to the anise. I'd visit this place again, but be careful with the bucket, what seems like just a bit quickly turns out to be a lot. read more
