Shameful business practice -- took advantage of a child We visited the Monterey Bay Aquarium for a family day trip, and while heading back to the parking garage, we came across Sweetok. While my wife and I were attending to our 3-year-old, our 10-year-old daughter wandered into Sweetok, excited to see what she believed were "real Labubu" dolls for sale. The owner guaranteed the doll was authentic and charged her $62 (there was no price upfront and my daughter was not expecting it to be $62.00 at the register)-- money she had saved up on her own. Minutes later, as we were driving away, our daughter burst into tears, realizing she had been scammed. It's heartbreaking to watch your child learn such a harsh lesson: that an adult business owner would knowingly deceive a young child for profit. I'm a business owner myself, and I was shocked at this level of dishonesty -- especially toward a child. I couldn't even return the fake doll because our toddler was having a full-blown meltdown, and we had to leave. Later, I checked the reviews and wasn't surprised to see others sharing similar experiences. My advice to the owner: Do better. Horrible experience. Do NOT buy the labubus they are FAKE. I went in to purchase a labubu and the owner said they were real. As I was checking out, she said that she knew what color labubu she was selling me because she opens them beforehand which is a HUGE RED FLAG. Then when my boyfriend and I got to the car to open the box, we saw that the box had been reglued together, and the packaging of the labubu was cut open and inside was a fake one. Stopped by after a day at the aquarium. Wanted some macarons so decided to grab a few. We noticed the smell upon entering but ok, no problem. My fiance didn't think much of it but questioned the cost, we walked towards our car and he told me the total and I said what?? Almost $8-$10 per item? So he went back to ask the price (should've done that first) Lady said $6.95 for the large macarons, and the small are half that price. Ok.... 7 macarons and a small bag of candy. $67? Do the math (4 large macarons $27.80 + 3 small macarons $11.85 + the small bag of candy. I am assuming can't be more than $10 looking at these reviews, so our total for macarons should have been $39.65 so you're telling me the bag of candies cost 27?! I tried calling to request a breakdown of prices but the merchant didn't answer. I filed a dispute with my bank because the macarons were stale, they also had flies flying inside the case, and everything just looked odd. Didn't taste right or felt right. Popped in real quick as I wanted two French macarons that had caught my eye while walking by. I figured they were $2-3 a piece (maybe $4) but boy was a WRONG! I ended up with 7 and a total cost of $53! I was so shocked I couldn't even say no and just walk away. My fault. However, the person working kept trying to get me to select more but never stated they only sell them in boxes of 7 until I finally asked. I was in such a hurry I was like "Sure, sure." She also wouldn't toss them in a bag even though I said I was going to eat them ASAP and that I was in a hurry. Worst disappointment of all, was that all of them were overly dry and stale. I absolutely love French macarons but these were beyond awful. My husband agreed. This has been, hands down, my worst financial decision in the past several years. Don't follow my lead! UPDATE: after trying to reach out to the business without any success to request a refund, I filed a complaint with my credit card company because although the goods were received, they were severely less than acceptable. The business never responded to inquiries from my credit card company and I was given a FULL REFUND. If you paid with a credit card and not a debit card, you can also file a complaint and might get a refund as well. The owner of this store commits literal fraud, in fact I would potentially call it purposeful theft on her part. My experience is that I come into the store with my kids, ask about the gelato (posted outside). She says they only have the frozen ice cream in the mobile freezer. It's Costco ice cream bars (like the ones at gas stations). We get a few. Everyone's talking. Hand thee owner the credit card. It's swiped immediately. No receipt. It was a whopping $45!!!! I asked if that was correct. She said "yes, the cookies are gluten-free! They're good for your kids". (My kids tolerate gluten just fine, by the way). I was shocked.
