The best was when the carmel corn was still warm. So I started looking for gourmet popcorn tins to gift for the holidays. Even with Black Friday specials, prices for the big name providers were crazy high. Luckily I remembered Candyland. A 2gal tin of Chicago Mix shipped was less than $40. What a treat it is, literally, to find a local candy store in the middle of the downtown! What caught my eye was the Chicago mix of popcorn. Being a fan of Garrett's and seeing the $3 price for a 4 ounce bag just got me very excited. BTW, a small bag of kettle corn at our local farmer's market these days is $9!!! So, this was my purchase from the friendly staff. After dinner, I opened up the bag and was teleported part way to Chicago due to the caramel corn. Unfortunately the cheddar was stale for me. Endless sweet treats!!! I didn't know where to start, so I walked the entire huge selection of popcorn flavors, candies, then assorted chocolates. I ended up getting the dark chocolate covered Oreo cookies, chocolate covered almonds, chocolate covered pecans, and their turtles. Some in dark chocolate and others in milk chocolate. Not a great place for a diabetic but it's conveniently located in a downtown parking structure next to the hotel I was in. They have lots of good quick gifts for people who aren't diabetic. Candy, popcorn, some in very attractive containers. Good choice of chocolate. Actually an intimidating amount of candy and chocolate choices. The worst analogy I ever hear from one of those self proclaimed "education experts" was that colleges need to reduce the choices they give students because it's like seeing a big enormous choice of sweets -- one ends up not getting anything. So not true. When presented with an overwhelming choice like this, most people get more than they planned on coming in. Have a limit in mind coming in here and really I would never bring a child in here unless they have much better than average self control. read more

Just got parked in the 8th St Parking Ramp near The Marriot Hotel.The smell of caramel pop corn and sugar permeated the stair well of the Parking ramp.The smell of sugar led me at the bottom of the stair well to Candy Land. this place is a hidden gem! my friends and i stopped by after the twins game. it's located in downtown minneapolis with convenient parking nearby. there are just SO many options. from chocolate to candy to popcorn. we couldn't decide, but ended up getting a huge bag of popcorn (~$15). the popcorn was delicious and it was a great snack to share. the staff were so kind and helped the line move quickly. the shop is super cute and nicely decorated. candyland also has locations in st. paul and stillwater. i'll be sure to check out the other locations! overall rating: 10/10 read more

We stopped into Candyland during our hang out downtown. My beau wanted to walk around, and I figured that downtown was a good place for that. He could people watch, as he got acquainted with the area. I'd mentioned caramel/cheese corn, which we both love, and he asked if there were a place to find something like that. I said, "of course. There's Candyland". So, we changed direction and headed there. First, I must admit that we completely forgot about popcorn once inside the store. He's from a small town, so he'd not seen anything like this before. He was literally a kid in a candy store. So, we got black licorice jelly beans - we both LOVE those; pecan turtles, dark chocolate cashew and almond clusters, peanut butter cups, English toffee, and peppermint patties. We also got some water because we were hot and thirsty. We'd been walking around for a while. We ate the jelly beans after we left the store and wished that we'd gotten a larger quantity. Because we'd never had them from Candyland, we got only a quarter pound. Well, we're going to try to keep it to half a pound when next we stop in. These were THE BEST black licorice jelly beans EVER!!! They didn't have that weird overly-anise taste that too many put into their licorice beans. They weren't too sweet, either. They were truly PERFECT. We ate the rest of the candies over the rest of the weekend and yesterday. Everything was delightfully wonderful. The chocolate is smooth and melts evenly on the tongue. The flavors are balanced and not overly sweet. You can taste the care in each bite. I'd told my beau that this was some of the best hand-made candies I'd had since leaving New York, and he, too, was quite pleased. We appreciate a more Easter/European take on candies that aren't just straight sugar. We like flavor, nuance, and creativity in our treats. Candyland gives all of these. We will be back. Maybe we'll even remember the popcorn. read more

This is a store full of delicious treats! We went in because of the individual mixing popcorn in the front window, not realizing we were walking through a portal into a nostalgic candy store from the past. Everything appears to be created in house, making it not only incredibly yummy, but also incredibly fresh...never stale. You have got to get some of the Chicago style popcorn, if you happen to make your way into Candyland! There are two Candylands, pretty close to each other. Do you know downtown well enough to be certain you're walking to the right one? Construction downtown means early closures and tricky walks. (Department store dinosaurs have died and the autoposy is ongoing) Candy!! And Popcorn!! Anyway, I wouldn't want you to be disappointed, bc it's cold and Candyland is awesome. Candyland is the best candy store in Minneapolis. They have every kind of chocolate dipped treat you could want. Dark, milk or white. The dark chocolate pecan turtles are my go-to, but other delicious treats include chocolate covered potato chips, caramels, even marshmallos! They've got old fashioned candies and all kinds of popcorn (i love to mix cheddar and caramel) and best of all: Icees! I probably swing into candyland about 4 times a week, no joke. The buttery smell just sucks me right in!! The service is always friendly and speedy even when they're busy, which is often cuz seriously, who can resist this place? It's not too expensive if you just get a little but just getting a little is tough to do. Let me tell you something... you wouldn't think that kosher salt on chocolate would be very good. It is. Chicago mix with added white cheddar? YES PLEASE! I have been going to Candy land since I was a child. I love the smells of the chocolates and popcorn that permeate in the air. The addition, (about 15 years ago) of the snoopy outside is really cool too. The only thing I find a bit weird is how they are no longer consistent. the popcorn is burnt a lot of the time and for the price, I just cannot justify it any more. It doesn't matter if this is down town saint paul OR mpls. They both burn their popcorn and think that it is okay to serve. Maybe they have a level of burnt-ness that is acceptable? For me, I don't think it is for a boutique type of store like this... It is one of your biggest sellers. You burn it, you fix it. Other than that, they have these candies that I adore. 3/26/16 We caught the hotel shuttle to the airport, rode the lightrail to downtown, and walked several blocks in the cold rain to come to Candyland, walked back to the lightrail station to go to Mall of America to catch the hotel shuttle back to the hotel... for a couple of bags of popcorn....it was well worth it. The chicago mix popcorn is one of the best I've ever tasted, it is light and flavorful. Candyland is a small candystore that is full of various candies and popcorn. The store is clean and well-stocked. It surprisingly had a steady stream of customers. I stood on the side while hubby was figuring out what to order. Eventually the delicious smell of popcorn made me ask for a sample of Chicago mix which they were happy to give. The worker was so nice and accommodating, it was a pleasure to shop there. read more

Despite it's name, I think of Candyland, first and foremost, as a popcorn stop. The caramel corn, cheese popcorn and Chicago mix (a combination of cheese, caramel and normal popcorn) are affordable, delicious, and addicting. We need to limit ourselves to one visit per week so that we don't overindulge. That being said, we buy a large enough bag of snacks to last a few days (grin). Candyland also has a wide selection of handmade chocolates and other candies. Although we've visited the store dozens of times, we've only tried a few of them (chocolate covered pretzels, almond bark, turtles, etc.). We weren't disappointed -- or dazzled -- by their chocolates... but the caramel popcorn, cheese popcorn and Chicago mix keep us coming back. read more

I know you can get most the candy cheaper in little bags at Walgreens but its so much more fun picking several different kinds of candy, and having each kind in in its own little bag...NOT to mention its always really fresh and soft! Candy land is a childhood dream come true. I always feel like a little Charlie in a chocolate factory when I go in, with their handmade signs and hand dipped chocolates. My favorite is by far, the Cheddar popcorn. It's the perfect snack for a movie, doing homework, watching sports, drinking beer, juice, water. Literally it is the best popcorn. And it's all made right there. If you're into flavor mixing, which I'm not, their Chicago mix has come highly recommended. My work commute brings me right in front of Candyland in the evenings and some days it takes all my will power to not stop in to buy a 4oz bag of Chicago Mix popcorn. At 2.25, it's a perfect after work treat. I would say that this Chicago Mix is better than the popcorn I've had in Chicago. The caramel corn is perfect, crispy crunchy with a thin caramel coating. Not the kind that gets stuck to your teeth. It's offset by the cheese corn, which is greasy and leaves your fingers orange (just how it should be). And to offset that, lightly salted buttered popcorn. The combination is just out of this world, and I love it. The service is always super prompt and friendly. I don't buy the candy often, but there seems to be a large selection of unique sweets for all of your sweet tooth pangs. read more

Every time I am in MSP I always stay on the same street as this Candyland location...and every time I walk by it I never go in. Until one semi-drunk evening I was walking back to my hotel and saw that they were still open. The Chicago Mix is absolutely to die for. Love the sweet and savory combination that this popcorn provides. I think I almost ate the entire bag in one sitting...but thankfully I did not because I had some fabulousness to take home with me. I don't think half of this stuff is easily digestable by the human body, but it's a party in your mouth, that's for sure. Going downtown to shop (and later work) at Dayton's, eating at Forum's, catching a movie at the Skyway and to top it off: Stopping at Candyland for some caramel corn and some almond bark. I was last back in 2008, and I couldn't believe that nothing much had changed In this tiny, narrow store that held such amazing rich goodies with an amalgam of aromas that could make you swoon. This is one memory of my beloved home town that still exists, and it makes me happy to see that it is as beloved today as it was 30 years ago. (How I wish Dayton's was still around!)
