Huge fan of this candy store. It has almost everything there and i didn't realize it was there. Not much advertising from what i['ve seen, but it's totally worth checking out. Huge fan of it. THIS IS THE CANDY LAND NEAR THE ORPHEUM. Hey theater lovers, are you confused? Is it cold? Do you have a curtain to make? This is your Candyland! EXCEPT. It closes early on Sundays in winter. WEEPING. Also, you're not supposed to take food into the Orpheum...so. For years ushers looked the other way, but now there are a few who will bust you. So don't buy the two pound bag of popcorn. Just get the little one. A 1/4 - 1/2 pound of sour cherries, a few clusters of dark chocolate covered peanuts, a puffy coat, and you're good to go. But double check those hours. read more

If you're on a diet... well just forget about walking into this place. It's one of our holiday traditions to get their "cheesy popcorn". Well it's a good thing holidays only come around once a year. Everyone in our family seems to "inhale this stuff". Sure... try to put a twisty on the bag and pretend you're done but believe me it doesn't work. You soon become an addict. I only come to this place for their popcorn which comes in 3 varieties and a multitude of sizes. My favorite is the "cheesy" or their "Chicago mix" (a blend of all 3). You walk into this store and the "aroma" kind of takes over you. Trust me...just walk in and you'll soon know what I mean. Candyland has been around since 1932 and there are only 2 locations in town. A must stop every time I am downtown. When you get close, your nose can guide you to this spot bursting with goodies. Love the caramel corn and the Chicago Mix (popcorn-caramel corn-cheese corn combo) and the fact that they offer about 6 sizes so you can buy just the right amount (tip: always buy one size larger than you think you need as it is so good). Prices seem reasonable and the staff is helpful. They also sell lots of candies and nuts by the pound as well but the popcorn is what brings me back again and again. read more

This place has got thee best caramel apples anywhere, everything I've had from here has been very good but these are what make Candyland a destination for me. They make their candy fresh and if you happen to be here during the day you can smell the sweet aroma of the candy being made. They also have really good sugar free chocolate if you or someone your with is on a diet or doesn't want to consume anything sugary. One thing I would suggest, especially if you have kids with you is avoid walking down 8th Street to get to it, sometimes that section of road can be a little creepy, not to mention boring. Instead you can reach Candyland by entering the US Bank building on Nicollet Mall and simply take the 1st fl arcade there. A really nice thing about Candyland too is that they are open at night when alot of places in central Downtown are closed, they're even open Saturday and Sunday, although not as late. All I have to say is Candyland can you move out to the bay area PLEASE?? :) I love this place - when I moved to Minneapolis I was wondering and getting lost in the skyways and as I exited the maze I saw this little store with a bright sign that ready CANDYLAND in red letters. I had to check it out. All I can say is don't walk in here if you are not ready to buy at least a few pieces of candy...or the popcorn. Mmmmm their popcorn is great! I think why I really love this place is it's classic it's a real candy store and they have everything a sugar lover needs. I recommend you try the candy apples and their popcorn is out of this world. No serious person can dispute Candyland's overall excellence as a candy store, regardless of which location is under discussion. This particular location stands out as first among equals, however, because it is so hardly ever crowded. If you walk by the Radisson Plaza location and see the line spilling out the door, just keep walking down the long creepy hallway, past the useless convenience store and Macy's until you exit onto 8th street. Turn left, walk up a the street a bit and voila! A mirthfully uncrowded Candyland, just waiting to provender you with an extra large bag of Chicago Mix, or Flav-O-Krunch, or Gummy Worms, or any number of other treats. You're welcome! read more

I love this place...most people rave about the Chicago mix (butter, cheese and caramel) but I am from Wisconsin, give me the cheese and butter mix only please! The popcorn is amazing and the people there are always so friendly. My only wish is that it wasn't so expensive and then it would be perfect. I love this place. Every time we go downtown we try to stop here to pick up goodies. The cheese corn is outstanding, the best I have ever had. The cheese corn is great on its own or as part of the Chicago Mix. Also for some reason their Sour Cherry Balls at Candyland are better than I have found elsewhere. My wife loves their toffee popcorn, but they don't always have it. There are so many treats here and they always come up with new things. For example, about a year ago we were introduced to chocolate-covered animal crackers. We always love to stop in to see what's new. Candyland is definitely worth journeying several extra blocks through the skyways if necessary. read more

My husband and I were out wandering downtown one afternoon this summer. "Oh, let's go to Candy Land." What? Did I marry an 8-year-old? You mean that wacky little place with all of the neon signs and neon-colored popcorn? Yep. So we went. And now I'm the one who begs to go to Candy Land everytime we're downtown. The array of goodies they have is absolutely staggering and all of it is fantastic. Whether you're in the market for classics like spearmint leaves and gummies or something crunchy (their caramel corn is to die for!) or even something more elegant like their dizzying selection of toffees and chocolate-dipped everythings, they will likely have it. Prices are fair and I've never been given a hard time about ordering quarter pounds of anything. I've lived in Minneapolis my entire life and had never been to Candy Land until a few months ago, but I make a point of visiting whenever I feel my waistline can afford to do so. Old fashioned candy store=fun, no matter what your age. I have been here a couple of times throughout the last 7 years on business and pleasure trips to Minneapolis. The place never changes, in a good way. Some of the offerings are typical, and you could find them elsewhere, but the display and service here make everything that much more Wonka-esque. Do you want sweet-tart type candies shaped like legos, that you can actually build with? Check. They have them. Fresh homemade fudge? This is your place. Screaming hot, giant hot tamales that will make your mouth numb? Gotcha covered. There are way too many choices, from handcrafted chocolates to hard candies, to nuts and popcorn, although coming from Chicago, I am a popcorn snob, and haven't tried it here. Yes, there are even sugar free choices for restricted diets. The staff are patient and midwestern nice, even when the place is crowded and you have indecisive children with you. They also have those fun mechanical gumball machines that have your gumball do all kinds of acrobatics before it pops out to you. Firts off, its every kid's ( and adults! ) dream to go to Candyland and this place is up o the hype. Super simple but old timy feel and from the minute you walk in you smell nothing but perfection!!! The carmel apples and popcorn are a classic that you must try. Dont like corn or apples? no problem, choose from the trillions (ok maybe not trillion) of chocolate items they sell. Everything always looks and smells fresh making it easy to rack up some money! The prices are very fair so if you want to splurge, go for it! This line of candy stores is great. A really small town America feel. Being from New York, we don't quite have much like this. Therefore, it was refreshing to see small businesses still operating in America. I went to the one on LaSalle which I'm told has been in that bulding since the early 80's. The workers behind the counter wear old school white aprons and hats and are so polite. I really felt like I was in a time warp. The selection of candies, chocolates, different type of popcorn was incredible and making choices is a daunting task. I wound up sampling the Heavenly hash (chocolate, marshmallow and walnuts), chocolate covered pretzel with m and ms, pecan praline, white chocolate bark, chocolate and caramel popcorn, buttery toffee popcorn with almonds and pecans, and cherry popcorn. I loved my first visit so much that I returned to one of their other locations after on my trip. Very reasonable too, kids will love it, and I myself felt like... a Kid in a Candy Store!! Great place. I used to come here a lot in the early 2000's, but I hadn't been here for a long time. Well, since I had a groupon for Team Liquors, I stopped by. I wish I would come by more often. The popcorn rocks. The Chicago Mix is the best. I could eat pound after pound of this stuff. The candy was pretty good, too. I'm not sure if they were made in house, but they were definitely handmade. Overall, I can't believe I stopped coming here. What was my problem?
