Love this place. Been going here since the early 2000's when it was much smaller. They've added on an entire section and a bunch of decor since then. Would have given it 5 stars if it hadn't been for the owners grandkid who was literally allowed to run rampant. Everyone was staring as he smashed carts, slammed stuff into the ground, and ran around yelling. The teenage staff laughed and said there was nothing they could do but they agreed it was a problem. I finally asked to speak with the owner (grandma) who didn't seem to take it seriously at all. Customers were shocked and gossiping about it. I've never seen this happen before so I'll go back but if it happens again I won't return. read more

Hammer is repulsed. Yet, he cannot look away from forbidden fruit. With the exception of my niece and nephew, I do not like kids. I also am not a huge fan of candy. Jim's Apple Farm has a ton of kids and a ton of candy, but I am still enamored based on my first visit today. OK, truth be told - I have a sweet tooth that is a fiend (I just do a pretty good job of suppressing it). If there is candy at the office or at a party, I am all over it like a gluttonous raven. I just hardly ever buy it myself for my own at-home consumption. Figure I should try and limit my addictions. I'm like a chocoholic, but for booze. Must have been some time since I drove this far south on 169, because I am pretty darned sure I have never seen this place before. It is literally impossible to miss. It is a gigantic yellow building on the west side of the highway not too far from Shakopee. Some might call it an eyesore. The only other candy store I can recall having been in the last ten years was Candyland in Downtown St. Paul. I can't speak as to prices, but this place blows Candyland out of the water when it comes to selection. 150 different root beers, probably 50 different kinds of saltwater taffy, and aisles upon aisles of product that will keep your dentist rolling in bank. When I walked in, I started grabbing stuff left and right like the plague was coming and candy was the remedy. Thought to myself: pull yourself together, Hammer, or you will be headed for both a stomach stapling and a root canal. Whittled my selections down to a small container of pineapple saltwater taffy and a bottle of Chicago Root Beer. Minus one huge star for this place not taking credit cards. I almost never carry cash and had to pay a $2.65 fee to use their ATM. Just does not seem like a very good business decision to not take credit cards. Sure, the credit card company gets a small percentage of the sale, but people are going to buy a shit ton more if they could put it on plastic. I may have gone with all of the stuff that I initially grabbed if I could have swiped my Visa for it at the register. Maybe I am lucky that Jim's does not take credit cards. I ate the entire damn container of taffy in my car before I even got back to the city limits. Thanks for saving me from me, Jim - I'm still going to give you some grief for it, though. read more

I come here every year. They always change up the place and it is fun to see what new design they created. Also, if you are not into candy and soda, the apple pies are so worth it. Often they are still warm and very tasty. They also have some hard to find candies that I send to family members. They do not take credit cards so be warned, bring cash. read more

Ignore the butthurt leftists trying to cancel this place - it is spectacular and a the best tourist attraction in the region. An excellent selection of candy, gourmet foods and fresh produce. HOW FUN IS THIS?!!!!! My Mom and niece were in town from LA and someone suggested that I check this place out. It has all the candy you want and then some. I love the Maple Peanut Butter and movie theater candy in their original packaging. VERY FUN! I do not drink soda but wholly soda heaven in there! The pies were right out of the oven and warm. We weren't home five minutes and they were digging in. My Mom said the crust was great and it wasn't too sweet which is what she loved about it Very fun - for someone who doesn't eat candy and or drink soda, I managed to spend $56.00 very easily. I've seen Jim's apple farm on TV several times, and finally decided to take a motorcycle ride down and check it out! It was everything I expected and more. Not only are they an apple farm, they also sell soda pop, candy and puzzles. I don't know how they put the 4 items together? First of all, they sell a variety of freshly baked apple pies that are delicious! 2nd they sell soda pop! They carry over 120 different brands of root beer. The shelves are stacked floor to ceiling. They also stock other well know flavors. I loved checking out the odd flavors of soda pop, like pumpkin pie, sweet corn, bacon, ranch dressing, and key lime pie. 3rd they sell candy. Many candies that I haven't seen since I was a kid. They carry over 40 different varieties and flavors of licorice. Some of the oldies that I noticed were wax lips, fizzies, candy cigarretts, Zotts, Marathon bar, and much more. 4th they sell puzzles. They have a very large display of puzzles for sale. I wasn't much interested in the puzzles, but there were a lot of them! This store is a fun place to stop, your kids will love it if you dare take them! Thanks to Yelp on my apple orchard search we decided to go to Jim's Apple Farm after our trip to Sweetland Orchard. The call of Root Beer and large varieties of candy can make my children very persuasive. Holy crow! I admit to having a slight sweet tooth, however my eyes really lit up when I saw all that candy. I think it was the candy from (seemingly) all over the globe that did it for me. Not a proponent of influencing children to smoke, but I nearly bought the kids the candy cigarettes and gum cigarettes. Ah the memories. As we were walking along, I nearly forgot they had apples. It was nice to sample some that the other orchards didn't have or have ready to sell. We chose the caramel apples instead along with some cool sodas and root beer. On that note of sodas and root beer, wow! I had no idea there were so many soft drinks still in existence. I'm not a regular pop drinker, but I certainly felt the need to stock up on all those sweet and bubbly, liquid treats. My children nodding their approvals. For Jim's Apple Farm as a whole, No real complaints all in all, however the mob of people was nearly overwhelming at a couple of spots in the store. Can't miss it. We noticed it from half a mile away, and I'm glad we did. I was a kid in the largest candy store I'd ever seen. You couldn't hold me back. There was a wall of soda. Literally a WALL! There was so many options and I went crazy on finding some glass-bottled root beer. They had candy, vegetables, pumpkins, apples, and more. Their gallon of apple cider was only $5, and blew my socks off! I wasn't as impressed with their candy selection as I would have hoped. They had too many kinds that I could just get at the gas station. But definitely check out their candy cigarettes. Now that is an addiction that I will feed. Don't worry if you forget your cash. This place is hilarious and awesome at the same time! Where has it been all my life!? I swear my parents knew about it but didn't want me to know...and I understand why. They have literally every type of candy imaginable. Their soda assortment is outstanding...seriously...BACON SODA?! There is a whole section devoted to bacon in fact. The one thing I didn't care for was that this place only accepts cash and checks, but no cards. They do have an ATM present, but I was just surprised that they accept checks but not cards?! A great stop along the highway. It's hard to miss the bright yellow picket fence and expanding barn. Don't be fooled that it's just candy and apples. There is a nice selection of pies and crackers and an Energy Drink from Japan. Hundreds of sodas from small family run companies you never heard of. I am a Root Beer fan, (as in real root beer, not root beer flavored pop) and Jim's has about 114 choices so far. The check out lines move quickly. This is sort of a trip back to older days, no website, no scanners, no credit cards (there is an ATM), smiling employees and polkas on the system. This place is an assault on the senses and I mean that in the best way possible. The aisles are narrow because they literally packed as much candy and treats into this building as humanly possible. The are 43 kinds of root beer (WHAT?!) and rows of oddly flavored sodas. The candy ranges from old favorites to modern classics, and foreign goodies. Basically, if you are looking for something that you couldn't find in a long time, try this place. I found Ale-8 One, a soda really only sold in Kentucky and limited places in surrounding states. Amazing. The tricksey-est part of this place? They BAKE.PIES.IN.HOUSE. Not like, these are baked in the backroom and brought out. No no. You will also find: many many many varieties of soda (including obscure root beers), applewood smoked beef jerky, beef sticks, bacon and sausage, fresh baked pies, some boss peanut brittle and nut logs, and, of course, apples. Jim's clearly has some kind of luddite thing going on. No web site at all, and conflicting stories on whether the phone number answered, if it exists at all. So...bring cash, and be ready as the big yellow building looms on the southbound side of Hwy. 169 (northbound visitors will have to make a U turn past the place). Prices are all over the map. Some things are outrageously overpriced, while others are a steal. The jerky and bacon are a steal considering the quality. Don't forget seasonal hours apply, so if you are looking to visit in 2013, then December 1 is your absolute last chance. From a mile away the bright yellow building screams kitsch and the signage proclaims "Minnesota's Largest Candy Store." I was driving past when my wife asked me why I wasn't stopping. Stopping was the best decision of that entire weekend. The candy selection varied between the generic to the sublime (maple candy and honey comb anyone). They also had local treats (I will be dreaming about the pecan nut roll until they open next year). There are whole coolers filled with unique and small distribution sodas. I asked a friend to name a soda flavor they ever dreamed of trying and they responded "blueberry" and lo and behold there was a pomegranate blueberry flavor. But absolutely none of the aforementioned awesomeness compares to the pie. A hot apple walnut caramel that makes me salivate just thinking about the flaky crust and just right firmness of the apple slices. The strawberry rhubarb deserves sonnets written in its honor. The Greeks and Trojans would have tossed Helen aside and battled for millennia just to get the chance to taste the tarty sweetness. This is Minnesota at its finest. read more

Honestly, that goes a long way in this type of a place because we (guys) are often left to stand around while the significant other shops. We nod to the to the other (guys) doing same. From that perspective -- Bring you S.O. to Jim's Apple Farm even if this isn't in your standard fare. They'll love it and this is actually a place where a (guy) can stand around and do some gathering of his/her own. On our visit She shopped for all things chocolate & coconut. The 8-year-old-boy with us was in Hog Heaven with all things gooey in the excrement-mimicry isle. Me? I looked at the salsa, BBQ sauce and soup selection. The score of the day was a recipe for salmon bisque! I'm certainly not above candy stores. I grabbed a few circus peanuts on my way out the door for old time sake. Love, love, love this place! Even if the apples aren't in season yet, you can still get a lot of great stuff. They have a huge variety of sodas...some that I've never heard of, and some that I never thought would exist, like maple bacon. They also have jams, jellies, salsas, and other local goods. You can even get whole pies. The pies are frozen, to bake later, or they're baked right there to take home and eat right away. They're made on-site, so you know they're fresh. When the apples ARE in season, you have so many to choose from, you don't know where to start. With each variety, they have a cutting board and knife handy, so you can try a piece of apple before buying them. Then they have tons of candies to choose from. Candies from when I was a kid, in the 70's, to candies from other countries. They even have jigsaw puzzles and some other games, and cool novelty items.. A MUST to visit. read more

(Look for the giant yellow shed on the west side of 169, between Jordan and Belle Plaine) Fine, if you must know, it's amazing. Yes, there are a bazillion kinds of candy, including stuff you haven't seen in eons and some that you couldn't even imagine (bacon flavored gum???). But there is so much more. It would have gotten 5 stars, however it doesn't take credit cards-credit card acceptance is a must, people buy more when you accept credit cards! Reviews written just last month...BUT: I made the trek yesterday from Minneapolis to where my navigation said to go, but all I found was a giant yellow building with no signage other than "closed". It looked dilapidated and run down. Did it close for good???? Did I find the wrong giant yellow building in Jordan???? 56 kinds of licorice and bacon candy. Why wouldn't you stop? It is Minnesota's largest candy store or at least that is what they claim. They have more candy than anyone person could need. They have it all. I mean old time candy, new candy, licorice up the ying yang, bacon candy, and so many soda options I had a hard time choosing. The only complaint it is CASH only at this point so come prepared. I bought some apple filled cookies, a root beer, and some popcorn which I just finished yesterday. I am not sure I even know what highway it is on or how I drove past it but i am sure if I see it again i will stop in and buy something because remember I love sugar. read more

What can I say about this place. This is a go to place in Minnesota and represents the changing of the seasons from Summer to Fall. I have always looked forward to going to Jim's Apple Farm as soon as they open in late summer. There are so many varieties of apples to choose from. You can try them and then buy them. They have fresh home made pies baking in the oven. The little yellow light tells you when the baking is going on. There are tons of candies, local foods (salsa, pickles, jams, etc.), little MN souvenirs and lots of other things. I used to go to this place when I was a child and it was just a barn with some apples. Now it has expanded so much with so many different products. Even with this, it still retains its small business, home town appeal. Get a carmel apple, pick up a pumpkin or buy any one of the jams and salsa. This place was the highlight of our Mall of America trip. It was great seeing the countryside outside of Minneapolis. The store was not hard to find as it's large, yellow and rediculous looking. It was filled with all kinds of fudge, soda, cool food and candy. I couldn't believe my eyes seeing the HUGE selection. My kids of course went crazy. I was glad to see they didn't just resort to the same old candy you could get out of any candy store. The clerks were very nice and the store was kept very clean. *Whining* Why does it have to be so far?!? We never go this direction for anything, so we have made a special trip the past two summers to hit up MN's largest candy store. They have vintage candy, homemade candy, novelty candy, games, toys, kitchenware, meats. And that's not even the best part. The pies. The rootbeer. The pies. The rootbeer. They have a selection of fresh baked pies ready for you to box up and take home (or eat on the way home....). Just don't be like us and forget to put your pie in the fridge, we lost a third of ours to mold on day three (it shouldn't have lasted that long anyways, but hey, I got pie guilt), We had the walnut caramel apple pie. That's right, three amazing ingredients all in one amazing pie. Totally worth the $10. They also have a huge selection of root beers and flavored sodas. It takes a while to pick only a few (okay, we gave in and bought eight...) but it's fun to read all the unique labels, see where they are made, etc. The staff are friendly and quick. I always hit it up on the way or on the way home from Emma Krumbee's apple Orchard. It is truly a hidden gem, and just about everyone loves it when they walk inside. Candy from wall to wall... And not just the new candy, that only the youngest generation knows about; but also those good old candies from when our parents and grandparents were kids! Unique soda pops, homemade pie's and specialty puzzles surround the top shelf all the way around the top of the ceiling. Apples, pumpkins and gourds in the fall... This place seems to have it all! You may not know this place as Jim's Apple Farm, but the bright yellow building and huge signs touting candy, root beer, pie and licorice will let you know you're in the right place. It's "Minnesota's Largest Candy Store" and they have things to satisfy even the pickiest sweet tooth. I found the long-forgotten "Bounty" candy bar--a less-sweet-more-dense version of Mounds. They have Cadbury Flake, SloPokes, something called the 'Yorkie" with the tag line "It's not for girls" which of course meant I had to buy one. A wide range of fancy chocolates and novelty mints. Plenty of colored sugar and gummy items. Boxes and bags of bulk candy and more taffy than I've seen in a long, long time. They have an unbelievable assortment of root beer and fresh, homemade pies. And also a wide range of apples, salsa, pasta and soup mixes, though those seemed to be items you could find in other places without too much effort. Nothing here is a bargain, but it's a great little road trip from the Twin Cities and you'll have plenty of fun snacks for the ride back! read more

Insanity. This place gets huge points from me for having a crazy array of hard to find items. For example, my favorite caramel chocolate digestives from the UK, and a wild assortment of liquorice from Europe, including liquorice Mentos (delicious - how did I never notice these while in Europe!). What you're wanting, you can probably find, although a bit less focus on Asian items than there is on American/European items. Not to mention walls of sodas, in every flavor imaginable, including bacon. Which...doesn't sound good. This is basically a place that should make your teeth hurt as soon as you walk in the door. Been here twice in the past 4 years and enjoy the atmosphere and selection. On this recent second visit, we managed to spend $132 dollars in the place and my wife and I were in shock. After getting back on the road, my wife reviewed the receipt and noticed 3 different sets of taxes on it each about $10 apiece. Yes, crazy of us to first spend $100 on candy but then get charged over $30 in taxes for it. I cannot find any information on what taxes they are authorized to charge but we will be more hesitant next time on stopping or how much we spend. read more

I visited the barn yesterday as I have done many times over the years. Love to bring the grandkids there, love the pies, a fun little experience. Saddly this May very well be my last time going there. While browsing the root beer area I noticed a couple, "unmasked" chatting with one of the store employees. As they were in front of the root beer of my choice, I said "excuse me" in order to reach the one I wanted. The employee offered to get it for me which I declined, saying Thank you - I could get it. He then proceeded to Mock me - in front of "unmasked" patron - laughingly and said that, "Oh - You must be afraid - everyone is so afraid." I assured him I was not - just cautious as I have health concerns and need to be careful. Again he said - "Yeah, afraid." Is this really the way you treat customers? Do I really need to defend myself to this inept employee? Does he know how to do his job and ask the non-masked customer to don a mask or please leave? Do you have a policy of mask wearing? Do you uphold that policy? I pointed out the non-mask wearing couple to the check out lady and questioned their policy. She shrugged her shoulders and carried on.
