Cute little candy shop. The dark chocolate sea salt caramels were amazing. Also tried a couple truffles which were also good. Only thing I didn't like, it was awkwardly quiet, they need some background music. read more

Costa's candy is a nostalgic favorite! The toffee and caramels are as wonderful and delicious today, as I remember them being when I was a child in the 70's. It was always a treat to get a huge, delicious caramel after a day of ice skating at Morehouse Park! Back then, the caramels were huge, and one was more than a child could wish for! At Christmastime my family always looked forward to receiving a gift box of the wonderful toffee that then came in big broken sheets, and we would savor each piece of varied size and thickness. My family moved down South when I was a teen, but I never forgot about those memories of how wonderful Costa's candy was. Thirty years later, when I had children of my own, I looked online to see if Costa's was still making their fantastic candy. I was excited to order it at Christmas to share with my Children and tell them about my fond memories of Costa's Candy store, and holiday treats. I was thrilled to buy boxes of caramels and toffee for my sister and parents to surprise them with the best of the best candy! The caramels are now made in smaller cubes, and the toffee is in perfect little thinner squares, but the TASTE is as BIG as we all remember! Now every year I look forward to ordering my favorites, and I'm always pleased that they are consistently as delicious as they have always been! My sister and I went to Costas' Candies when we went on a day trip to Owatonna. We were surprised at how small the shop was until we were told that the store had been gutted the week before and was in the middle of a renovation. Of course...we miss seeing candy being made by a week. At any rate, there was some pre-packaged candies that were available on two shelving units. We chose the caramels and they were AWESOME!! They were soft, flavorful, and were the best caramels I've ever had. We should have purchased more. Next time we are in Owatonna we will stop by Costas' Candies again. Hopefully the candy store is renovated and we can see candy being made. read more

I received some of their boxed candy as a gift for Valentine's Day. The boxes self on the outside was very pretty, but on the inside was less than disappointing. Only some of the candy was wrapped others were just sliding around unwrapped not even in papers inside the box. The box itself was not in cellophane or in any kind of protection just scotch taped to keep it closed. It didn't seem like it was very professionally done at all. I guess I've spent a lifetime at being spoiled by other professional candy companies. Personally, I wouldn't want to buy their chocolates. read more

Costas continues to be our go-to store for handmade chocolate truffles, caramels and toffee. Never have I ever made a purchase I wasn't pleased with. We make a point of purchasing for Christmas and Easter and ship all over the country to family. After years of being loyal fans we're giddy to receive anything that comes in a Costas candy box! Costa's is a small diner with friendly wait staff. The restaurant's look is plain & food is no frills but is offered at a fair price. Among their specials they were offering 'rueben soup' or 'chicken noodle', which the chicken noodle was quite nice. My group got a grilled cheese sandwich & grilled cheese with bacon. They liked both of them. When you pay your bill you are tempted by the chocolate truffles they make here. They have quite a nice selection of tasty treats. I bought some to bring home as treats for my family, and they happily made them disappear before I knew it. read more

Finally had lunch at Costa's. Very disappointed. There was no breakfast after 11:30 and the menu was limited to sandwiches/burgers and salads. My Cobb was just a small amount of iceberg lettuce, chopped tomatoes - a Cobb SHOULD have avocado - with processed/pre shredded cheddar (I don't care for blue). The chicken was warm but also tasted processed (i.e. Tyson or such, chicken infused with chicken flavor) the bacon was warm and tasty. The salad appeared quite small, but I am used to a large bowl of good quality mixed lettuces. I will never understand why, when in the heart of farm country, the produce offerings are sparse and not very good quality. I felt $11 was a bit steep for what I was served. I do like the candy! No, not high quality single source chocolates (and all that crap) but it is made on premises every couple of days. I got two pieces of dark chocolate covered caramels on the way out. The dark chocolate was a bit too sweet, but the caramel is good and the candies are fresh. I recommend going across the street to Central Park Coffee for lunch and having a candy or two at Costa's. read more

Owatonna is by no means the foodie capital of Minnesota, so I was not expecting some kind of fine dining experience when my partner and I walked in to have lunch on Saturday. In fact, I was expecting to have a very diner like experience and maybe check out the candies... but I was very displeased with everything about this place. There are maybe about 15 booths here, so getting a place to sit is fairly difficult, and being one of the few restaurants in the city means that it is also quite busy. We did find a booth in the back and sat down to await the waitress. After about five minutes of sitting there while she walked to and from the other 4 booths directly seated near us she FINALLY stopped off to ask us what we'd like to drink and to drop off some menus. Another several trips to the other booths later she finally brought our waters and we placed our order. I got a Gyro with a salad (tzatziki for my dressing), and Domm got a bacon cheeseburger and fries. Another long wait (with no refills on our waters) before the food arrived, but when it did I was immediately disappointed. She set the plates down in front of us with no silverware, napkins, no ketchup, no dressing, not a word. She walked away. I flagged her down as soon as she walked to another booth and had to actually demand that the items be brought to our table. She seemed very offended that I would even ask her. My Gyro was alright, literally it was not bad or good. The tzatziki, it turns out, was not a sauce, it was more like sour cream with some cucumber in it... Disappointing. Domm's burger was... awful. Dry, VERY overcooked, the bacon was tiny and burnt, I suppose the fries were rather redeeming, they did a very good job of cooking those Ore-Ida crinkle cuts. We did not stay for any of the brightly wrapped candy at the front of the store... I was much too annoyed to give this place any additional business. read more

All of the candies are delicious, you can't go wrong! Don't go here for the food, go for the candy. Buy about 5 of the large boxes full before you leave town or you are going to be crying the entire way back to Iowa or Minneapolis for being an idiot and not stocking up. read more

I have always enjoyed this little diner when I come through town. The food is delicious ---LOVE being able to have a gyro omelet!!! Not a place for a group. It, as with most Owatonna eateries is very small, and incapable of serving more than 15 people at a time in the entire establishment. read more

I don't know why they would make a restaurant out of this candy shop. They have no experience dealing with food or service. However, they make really good a candy. Better than Russell Stovers. I have only tried the restaurant part once and it was enough for me to never come back. Just stay with the candy shop. read more

Pros: Friendly staff and good service. And the caramels are fantastic. Cons: Price The food itself from the restaurant was not bad but iwould not call it good. I went there with my 4 kids knowing that they have great caramels (my wife's coworkers sometimes bring them in and she steals one for me) and that they have a cafe there as well. I didn't even order food because of the prices. My bill was $40.80 for 2 burgers (1 a la carte), chicken tenders and a grilled cheese. The burgers were frozen 1/4 lb patties but they cost $9. Chicken tenders came with just 3 frozen small tenders and fries and we're $9 as well. No kids menu. Yes, that's right, I took my 4 kids out for lunch, didn't order for myself and I'm out over $40. Growing up in Owatonna, Costas' has always been a regular stop during the holiday season. Since we moved to Los Angeles, I have been ordering candy to be shipped each Christmas (and each time I am in town, I make sure to stock up). The candy quality is fabulous and the customer service is always friendly. This particular year there was a small mix-up with my order and I didn't get my box by Christmas. When I called, Julie handled the whole thing and sent my box for free. No matter where I end up loving, I will always be ordering Costas' each and every Christmas. read more

This place is a joke. They advertise themselves as a Greek Restaurant, but the food is far from authentic Greek. The candy is good.

i went to college there back in the 70's and went to such a restaurant located in the same place, but i don't know if it is the same. We went for the candies and pies which are quite good. i don't remember having a meal there. i am hoping to try it out this summer. i would recommend the candies to all who stop. read more
