It was always a treat to get a huge, delicious caramel after a day of ice skating at Morehouse Park! Back then, the caramels were huge, and one was more than a child could wish for! At Christmastime my family always looked forward to receiving a gift box of the wonderful toffee that then came in big broken sheets, and we would savor each piece of varied size and thickness. My family moved down South when I was a teen, but I never forgot about those memories of how wonderful Costa's candy was. Thirty years later, when I had children of my own, I looked online to see if Costa's was still making their fantastic candy. I was excited to order it at Christmas to share with my Children and tell them about my fond memories of Costa's Candy store, and holiday treats. I was thrilled to buy boxes of caramels and toffee for my sister and parents to surprise them with the best of the best candy! The caramels are now made in smaller cubes, and the toffee is in perfect little thinner squares, but the TASTE is as BIG as we all remember! Now every year I look forward to ordering my favorites, and I'm always pleased that they are consistently as delicious as they have always been! Our host was very polite and accommodating, there was light music on, and our drink order was taken. The owner Lucinda made herself available for questions about the menu. My partner asks for a special chicken soup flavored with lemongrass that was made for her "delicate" tummy, with added cabbage, that Lucinda had recommended, and has remembered every summer we come here during our travels from Texas. I've ordered different items but keep coming back to sushi/sashimi, and a takeout order of their exquisitely delicious Chicken Curry. We have yet to try Teriyaki anything, or Soba anything, but eventually some years later we might stray from the orders that keep us coming, and will continue to keep us coming!

I expressed my concerns politely and asked if the lack of masks was an anomaly or regular practice. He said that they have a plastic shield and a sign on the door to comply with the law, but customers can come and go as they please (with or without masks). I told him that the pandemic is real and unless they enforce mask-wearing, I will not come back. He said, "Fine!" and hung up on me. It is a bummer because they have delicious tri-tip roasts.

I've made my first two trips there in recent days and I love this quirky little place. It's true that you bag your own groceries. It's true that if you don't bring your own bags, they charge you for theirs. It's true that you put down a 25c deposit on your cart, but there are good reasons for these things. (their FAQ is interesting) The aisles aren't as marked as well as most stores, but the store is small. It's easy to navigate because the islands are no more than head high. When you're in an aisle you don't feel like you're at the bottom of a canyon. There's no place where you can't see all four walls of the store. Most of the products are store brands, but I did see some name brands like on candy and Coke products. There's no video store, bank branch, or waterslide; just really good prices and a very comfortable environment.
