Whenever I'm in the area, I visit Regina's Candy store and buy a half pound or so of Nonpareils, which are small dark chocolate disks topped with little white beads of sugar. They are not easy to find these days, but I grew up loving them and I love them as much now. Regina's has been around since 1926, so they are celebrating 100 years in business. They make their own candy, as well as sell imported candy. They have two stores, the one I visited in St. Paul on St. Claire Avenue and one in West St. Paul. You can also order candy online. This little store is a gem and frankly, I'm grateful that I do not live anywhere near either store, or I would be 50 pounds heavier than I am. I do not have the willpower to resist, although I did refrain from their butter English Toffee (aka Butter Brittle ) and fudge. Cute little local shop with tons of candy options. I love dark chocolate so I headed toward the dark chocolate sea salt caramels and chocolate covered blueberries. Yummmm. The staff was very friendly and helpful. It was busy with several people buying Christmas themed candy. They asked if I wanted my two choices wrapped but I declined as they were all for ME! What a nice perk to offer, though. It was fun seeing all the colors and different kinds of candies to purchase. It was nice the store was a bit set back from the street so you could pull into a 'mini-parking-lot' right in front of the store. Good stop. read more

When I look at some of these one-star "Karen" reviews I wonder if I am living in the same reality as some of these people. Regina's is an absolute community gem and in some ways, the last of a dying breed of small, neighborhood handmade chocolate shops. Look at this as one step above Candyland--Regina's has far more chocolates and fewer "Kiddie Candies." Though, kids will still be delighted to come here. And you will find it to be less expensive than some of the modern, very contemporary chocolate shops. I have always had personable service from the lovely ladies that work here. If you come right before a major holiday, prepare for a bit of a crowd. This is a part of many local families' traditions! read more

I love having this little candy shop in the neighborhood, and this falls in that category of "I haven't reviewed that before? Really?" Regina's is easy to overlook, tucked away on Saint Clair Ave. right next to the Roxy dry cleaners. It is totally worth the stop in. They have big glass cases full of delicious chocolates. There are jars lining the shelves with hard candies and gummy things. There is almost always someone making some kind of candy behind the counter, and there are often women bagging up candies in pretty gift bags tied with big long pieces of ribbon (for some reason I am really enamored with the giant spools of ribbon behind the counter). You can pop in for a prepacked box or bag that makes a great quick gift. Or, you can ask them to pack you a box or bag on the spot. They have a lot of old-school candies (my favorite are the fruit slices) and will pack you up whatever you want. By weight. Of course. I've found the chocolates to be delicious and rich and other candy to be fresh and tasty. Prices are reasonable but not cheap -- it's homemade gourmet candy after all. The little flier they put in some of the boxes say the store has been around since 1926. That's quite a tradition! read more

This WAS my go-to for chocolate gifts. No more. More than a week before Easter 2020, I ordered Easter treats to send to my partner, who lives out of state. Because of COVID-19 we have not been able to see each other for several weeks. The package was never delivered. Regina's wouldn't return emails and phone messages. I only got through on April 14, only to find that the package was returned. They did not call the contact number they were given for delivery and basically ruined the one thing i could do for my partner for Easter, an Easter when we have both recently had deaths in the family. It was an Easter when we were both by ourselves. I called and dealt with an uncaring and argumentative manager who turned my complaint into a rude and uncaring response. I really don't care if she hasn't seen her family either. It's not a contest. I would recommend that until a management change is made. Don't do business there.. read more

Something of a St. Paul icon, Regina's Fine Candies is tucked away on a corner of one of those narrow streets in the Mac-Groveland area, across from a school (talk about your great strategy!) in a neighborhood that's almost entirely residential. I can't count the number of times I've driven through this intersection and never noticed their store until I really needed to find it. I've eaten some of Regina's candies in the past, having received it as gifts, and also picked it up as gifts and for myself at other stores around town that carry some of their selected offerings, pre-packaged and ready to go. Always fresh, delicious, quality candy. It was actually the need to buy something a little nicer and classier as a thank you gift that finally took me to the Regina's store itself. It goes without saying that for a kid, this is probably the closest you could get to heaven on earth, as long as they had their iPhone with them and WiFi access. An endless selection of all kinds of candy, and an aroma that made you gain weight with every breath. But for adults too, beautiful, high-quality sweets to please every taste and budget, and a lot of classy, pre-packaged selections that are perfect for gift-giving. I live in San Diego, CA but have a friend who I visit in St Paul. I wanted to find a candy shop that made dark chocolate maple creams. Regina's not only makes them, but they're the best I've ever tasted. Quality chocolate makes the difference. I just ordered the maple creams to be sent to my home in San Diego wondering how the candy would survive the trip. They arrived in special wrapping and were in perfect condition. Not sure why, but a trip to Regina's always makes me feel like a kid in a candy store. I guess there's no way around it. Serious wall-to-wall candy is bound to have that effect. I like that this shop is a bit off the beaten path, in a mostly residential neighborhood. It truly doesn't call attention to itself. And how Minnesotan is that? There's nothing fancy about the interior either. Regina's Fine Candies is all about the fine candies. So let's talk candy. The candies themselves are varieties that three generations have been producing at this combination candy factory/storefront since 1926. According to Regina's web site, the name gracing the business comes from the bride of its Greek immigrant founder. His marble tables and copper kettles are still in use. Better yet, so are the old family recipes. After all, they're what make Regina's Fine Candies "a complete candyland fantasy." If it seems like there's a lot to take in, it's because there is. Regina's produces over 400 varieties of candies, all in small batches. You'll find everything from gummy bears, Swedish fish, licorice snaps, and candied fruit slices, to colorful--and flavorful--salt water taffy and terrific varieties of fudge, truffles, and other fine chocolates. METAL FOUND IN REGINA'S CANDIES - My sister purchased some dark chocolate covered English toffee from Regina's Candies for Thanksgiving dinner. I was too full from dinner so I took two pieces of Regina's Candies English toffee home for later. I ate them the following Sunday and while chewing the second piece I noticed something I couldn't chew - so I spit it out and found 10 metal staples in the toffee. Luckily I did not get hurt. I also don't want others to get hurt so I contacted the company about this and they've basically gone silent. I've also asked for my sisters purchase to be refunded - No Response from Regina's Candies. I reached out to the food and safety department in hopes of reducing the chance of someone getting hurt. One of St. Paul's hidden gems. They have a lot of great prepackaged candy, but the real deal is their selection of hand dipped chocolates. They have been making them in house for almost 100 years. This is the place for you if you are into fudge or salt water taffy. I love bringing my four year old here after playing at a nearby playground as she has a killer time picking out a half dozen or so candies that end up costing about a buck, and she thinks it is the most amazing thing. And if you were a kid, it would be an amazing place...as the other reviewer wrote, the focus here is not on a themed decor, but on the candy, and it shows. Love this local candy store. read more

This is easily my favorite candy store in the twin cities. They carry a great assortment of chocolates with something for everyone, and great non-chocolate options too. Their candy is made on-site, and it's always fresh. I'm surprised by the lukewarm reviews. They hire high school kids, maybe that is part of it, but I've always had positive experiences and have only been treated with professionalism. My 5-year-old was treated very well. I think as long as you aren't looking for the cashier to be your best friend you'll be more than satisfied. read more

Have taken my 2 grandkids here - there eyes were so huge when they walked in and saw all the candy.The clerk could not have been more unfriendly. Went back a few more times since live nearby and the kids love all the choices and picking out the candies. The woman behind the counter is never the least bit friendly - the 2 kids are darling and well-behaved. My last visit ever was when my granddaughter needed to urgently go to the bathroom - when I asked was told the bathroom is for employees only anon she does not know any place nearby to go. Having a candy store, I would certainly not hire a clerk who appears to really dislike kids - and I guess adult too. I will not go back - too bad - the store itself is a kid's delight!! read more

No only do they have a great selection of candy. The clerk helped me locate some dairy free chocolate for my son who I was SURE would not be able to find the chocolate candy he wanted. I have been going there for years, and as much as I want to see them thrive, they are about as unfriendly as you can get. I don't think they like kids, and they seem so inconvenienced when you go in--all hard to believe given it is a candy store. High prices, bad attitudes. Walked in and was immediately greeted by who I presume was the owner since she was so knowledgeable and nice and she actually cared about my satisfaction as a customer. After being patient with my endless questions and explaining things as clearly as I could have asked we wrapped things up and I was on my way. Walked into this shop late on a recent Saturday afternoon and was embraced by a heavy scent of chocolate mint. Mmmm! Beautiful candies and chocolates all about, including "sugar free" candies and chocolate truffles. A friend's elderly mom loves good chocolate but because of diabetes, seeks out "sugar free" chocolates. Apparently, she's been unable to find decent sugar free chocolate for a while now, and that's why I poked my head in here. Per a request, I asked for a pound box of a mix of truffles (@ $22.95/#): chocolate, choice-mint, and hazelnut. After listening to my request, the young women behind the counter attending to me began collecting the wrong flavored truffles and I had to correct her. She excused herself and said she was going in the back to prepare the box. Several minutes later, she came out and showed me her arrangement in a box. It looked fine. Meanwhile, I spied on top of their counter a jar of "coconut brittle" and I asked for a single piece of it - "to go". I paid for the treats and bit into that brittle and, brittle it was - very hard & crunchy - and oh, so tasty with thick cuts of coconut and peanuts encased in well-caramelized sugar. Yum! read more

I stopped to purchase some valentine candy for my young grandchildren and decided to purchase 1 lb each of jelly bellies, tart hearts & cherry hearts. I planned on dividing them up in small bags for the grandkids and I asked for 9 little bags. I thought this would much easier than asking the candy clerk to weigh out 9 individual $ 2.00 - $3.00bags. She said she might have to charge me extra for the bags and asked an older woman who was coming out from the back if she should . The woman confirmed that there would be an extra charge. Upon hearing this,I said, "well would you have charged me extra for the 9 bags if I ordered then individually?I. I thought I was going to make less work and time for you by doing it myself". The older woman, clearly annoyed with my reasoning gave a disgusted look, rolled her eyes and said they usually charge for extra bags. I then said " forget it, I'll go to Candyland in downtown St. Paul , where they won't charge me for little bags." Then she told the young clerk to " go ahead with the bags", realizing that there was $35.00 sale on the table. Too late! You lost the sale and my future business by your unfriendly nickle- dime attitude. I headed down to Candyland and spent $43.00 and they where more than happy to provide me with little bags to divide my purchases so they didn't have to tediously weigh out small amounts.
