Front door, bench to enjoy your chocolate purchases

A cozy chocolate shop hidden in a neighbor, near Hwy 100/Brooklyn Blvd. I attended a private YELP event here in December and found myself in the area today. Stopping in was a MUST. Not surprised to find the 2 owners hard at work making all those goodies. Today was a cold, brisk morning and walking into a warm store was refreshing. I'm assuming the keep if warmer when actively making chocolate. I picked out my faves: Kodiak bar, Big Hazel cookie and Oreo Gelato. Spoke with one of owners during checkout. They were recently spotlighted on KARE 11. Check out their segment here: https://youtu.be/DOwiRRocMn8

I attended solo but luckily really liked the group I was assigned to. We wanted everyone to work on things they enjoy and allowed everyone to try some parts of the important tasks (making pasta and pastry dough). Your enjoyment might really depend on what your group is like. You can buy wine and beer to drink while you take the class, and those were reasonably priced I thought! $9 for a glass of wine and I think $8 for beer. The class was chaotic since we were making three courses and things needed to be done at different times, but the chaos felt like how it really is in a kitchen making multi course menus, so that didn't bother me! The assistants were great and helped us stay on track and helped if we were struggling with anything. I can't say I learned much from the class (which is why I only gave 4 stars), but I sure had a lot of fun!

Pure magic. The chocolate almond croissant is next level--flaky, buttery, and packed with rich, decadent flavor. And don't even get me started on the breakfast sandwiches--they're gourmet-level masterpieces. Every bite is perfection. The vibe & service here is warm and inviting, with the irresistible aroma of freshly baked bread and pastries filling the air. Whether you're grabbing a coffee, treating yourself to a pastry, or diving into one of their soups or salads, this place nails it every time. If you're in the area, do yourself a favor and stop by. Even when it's packed, service is quick, efficient, and genuinely friendly, which is impressive given the crowds. They have an incredible selection with lots of rotating flavors, so there's always something new to try. Their croissants and Kouign Amann are absolute standouts. Flaky, buttery, and perfectly executed. The lattes are also delicious and pair perfectly with the pastries. They offer pre packed goodies as well, which are great for grab and go treats or bringing something home. The space itself is bright and welcoming with large windows and natural light, multiple seating options, and a small outdoor seating area when the weather is nice. If you love high quality pastries, Black Walnut is a must. Worth the wait and worth the early alarm.

The space is about the same and they packed a bunch of tables inside so it is kind of stuffy but that's MN winter life. We got the raspberry passionfruit kouign amann, raspberry cardamom frangipane bostock, almond croissant, banana chocolate croissant and the bear claw. Also ordered a cappuccino, latte, cortado and black coffee to drink. Drinks came out pretty fast and were decent but nothing to write home about. The pastries were delish. The croissants were super hefty in size and very filled which was nice and definitely worth the price. My kouign amann in comparison was really small and at almost the same price I would say was a kinda overpriced. But they texture was light and crunchy and I really enjoyed the jam inside. Bostock was dense in a good way with a layer of jam and then frangipane. You could really taste the cardamom too. Bear claw was croissant that they filled with almond, raspberry and cream cheese. Flavors were also good in that.

I usually go to the Bloomington store since it's closer to home, but l'd say the two locations are very comparable.... Just in different cities. I stopped in specifically for my favorite treat: enchant mints (and, of course, countless samples). I was super bummed to find out they no longer have the chocolate covered cinnamon graham crackers. The original version just isn't hitting the same, and that was truly sad news bears for me. Really hoping they consider bringing those yummies back someday soon! The gal at the counter was pleasant and friendly, which always makes the experience better. As a total chocolate lover, I'll definitely be back. I really need to give myself a spending limit because I go absolutely nuts for chocolate here. The shop itself was clean, bright and makes it hard not to linger back and forth between all the different types of chocolate and other treats. Definitely encourage you to stop in and give it a whirl for yourself.

All of the donuts here are wonderful - there is a large selection of cake and raised donuts, with different flavors rotating throughout the year. I have ordered 2-3 dozen to bring into work multiple times, and each time I get questions and remarks on how fresh and delicious they are. If I am in the mood for savory, a personal favorite of mine is the breakfast croissants: warm and oozing with cheese, ham, or spinach! Although my go-to is the chocolate croissant; I eat it almost weekly! The bakery also makes and decorates special occasion cakes. I recently ordered a Princess Torte for a friend's birthday, and it was a hit! I always feel welcomed at this bakery, no matter how busy or quiet a day it is. You can truly feel the love and warmth (and smell the deliciousness!) of the staff and community that frequently return as regulars. The prices are some of the best around, too!

There are lots of other baked goods to try here but I am so loyal to the cake donuts that I rarely want to venture out of my comfort zone. Many items in the display case look pretty delicious too though! Maybe one day I will branch out. Also conveniently close to Northern Coffeeworks for a proper latte :)
