Sisters Drug & Gift - Halloween, my favorite season

Sisters Drug & Gift

This Yelp listing makes me so sad. The photos are from pre-lockdown times when Sisters Drug was a…read morelovely gift shop as well as a pharmacy. Clearly they don't have the resources nowadays to comment on mean reviews or to modernize their computer system. I am so grateful that they are still in business if only a shadow of what they once were. They are the only pharmacy left in town and they TRY. I have driven the 20 miles to the next closest pharmacy and had the same experience there that Andie C had in Sisters, except that I was left with the choice of driving 40 miles home and back or hanging out in another town with nothing to do but wait for the pharmacists to catch up.

They claim they never received it from the doctor. I drove back to the doctor's office and got a hard copy only to have the doctor show me the confirmation that BOTH were sent this morning. I came back to Sisters Drug and handed the copy directly to them. After waiting in line yet again, the lady behind the counter tells me "they still haven't sent it in." Ummm...I handed it directly to you a few minutes ago!! For the love of Pete?! I know they're busy with a lot going on but how inept are they? You don't remember me handing up a piece of paper literally moments ago?! I asked if they could please rush it as I was supposed to start taking them this morning. I was told it would be at least 30+ minutes. I asked to speak with the pharmacist, a manager, someone who could actually assist me. The pharmacist comes to the counter and says he can put it to the front of the line & the receptionist says it already is. I ask, "the front of the line is still going to be 30+ minutes?" What a joke of an organization. If I had any other choice I'd run there now. Unfortunately, I don't have the means to drive to Redmond or Bend. SISTERS DRUG IS SUBPAR AT BEST. I'd give ZERO stars if I could.

It's a steep $18 but worth every penny (oh, sorry, they don't make those any more). The REUBEN SANDWICH on toasted marble rye had Swiss cheese, the perfect mound of sauerkraut and thousand island dressing (ask them to go light on the slather) along with a bag of chips and a cookie. Top it off with the beverage of your choice -beer, wine, canned soda, etc.- and you have the perfect lunch or afternoon snack. On our way out we bought a couple pounds of the Smokehouse Jerky (Original, Pepper, & Teriyaki) and two pounds of the Smokehouse bacon. Made the car on our trip home smell great!!!! Seating inside is nice and you can people watch. I like to eavesdrop on the questions they ask the people behind the counter. You learn something new every time - LOL. Tables outside too but it was a tad too hot the day we visited to sit outside, even in the shade. Small, family-run establishment owned by Oregon natives. The artisan meat cutter and smokehouse expert are both third generation in the industry. Such a cute little town too, all cowboy-like and worth an afternoon of moseying the main street to see the shops. Just make sure you keep up your strength and have lunch at Sisters Meat and Smokehouse first.

We were nearly immediately treated like royalty. Genuinely surprised by the kindness here. I walked out with seasonings, bone in Kansas City cuts, and house smoked peppercorn havarti. Walked out saying to my wife, I cannot remember the last time someone was as kind as the folks working there.

Meg's cakes are moist, light, sweet, but not overly so, and layered with amazing flavors. Meg's Black Forest chocolate cake filled with cherries and topped with a whipping cream is heavenly. Her Bailey's Chocolate Cake is even better than it sounds. I have also tasted her red velvet cupcakes filled with chocolate ganache and topped with cream cheese frosting. Seriously. Yum. Her lemon tarts are so beyond. She also does a lemon curd filled cake that is killer. Plus, I have devoured her amazing onion tarts and other savory pastries. They are totally amazing. Why have I tasted so many of Meg's treats? She is the pastry chef for Poppies and Jen's Garden, both in Sisters, Oregon. Poppies and Jen's Garden have amazing food, as well. They both strive to put out the highest quality food while targeting a different dining experience. You know they have the highest of expectations for pastries that come out of their kitchens, and Meg delivers. I work out every day and save all of my "treat" calories for one of Meg's delicious pastries. I am already dreaming about what she will make next. NutMeg Cakes and Catering is available for on-site catering, special events, specialty cakes, wedding cakes, and more. You should call Meg. You will be glad that you did!
