I was very surprised and disappointed by the service I received at your establishment on May 10, 2026, when picking up my four dogs. At drop‑off, on May 8, 2026, the front desk employee with black hair and facial piercings was neither friendly nor professional. She was abrupt, showed no patience with our dog Frankie, and even tossed the leash toward me while saying, "You need to put this on him," simply because he was afraid of her. This occurred in a full lobby, which made the interaction even more uncomfortable. When we returned for pick‑up on May 10, 2026, the employee assisting us was polite and professional. However, the same staff member from May 8, 2026, came out again and rudely said, "One of you needs to go get your dog, and if he keeps acting like this he can't come back." She did not tell me where I needed to go to get Frankie, and when I asked, she simply pointed toward the door. What makes this even more concerning is that Frankie's report card stated he was "such a great boy," "well‑behaved," and "a pleasure to have," and that he "had a great time in the courtyard with his siblings." Clearly, the issue was not Frankie's behavior but the employee's attitude toward him. When I expressed my concern to the polite staff member behind the desk, instead of acknowledging the situation or saying she would inform management, she told me we could "try one more time," but if Frankie "acts up again," we wouldn't be allowed to return. This response was disappointing and did not address the unprofessional conduct we experienced. read more

Note that for daycare, the dogs are not ALWAYS separated by size & temperament - it is dependent on the day/the number of dogs at daycare. I wish this was relayed beforehand since his evaluation went great. My little guy is very laid back and seemed a bit overwhelmed with the bigger, energetic dogs. We left our dog here for three days. It was fantastic! The facility is private and wooded and reminded me of camp. The staff was super friendly and gave daily updates. We opted for walks and playtime and they even gave a report card showing what our dog did! The thing that made a lasting impression, however, was that we were running late and called ahead and they stayed back 10 mins after closing to make sure our dog was returned to us. Everyone on the staff was very kind, and my dog seemed to have a phenomenal time! He was given a report card after his trial day, and it was comforting that I could check in on him with the live cameras. We brought our dog to Candlewick for the 3 hour trial period. Within an hour we got a phone call that she was ok but had been bitten. She was not just bitten she was mauled. She needs several stitches and has terrible open wounds on her side. The staff is completely and utterly incompetent. Our dog (5mo old black lab with 0 aggression) was mauled and the staff has no idea what happened. They admit to this, they clearly do not watch the animals that they take care of. They also have no idea what dog mauled my pup and did not seem to care to find out, that vicious dog that attacked our puppy is still there unidentified. The manager at candlewick also tried to tell me this was not a dog bite. Out Vet begs to differ and states that it is very clearly a dog bite (see the tooth drag). I absolutely love candlewick kennels! They are such a clean and neat kennel. They also have a ton of space for daycare so you can always guarantee to walk in. For the kind of professional staff they have and facility I feel that they are very reasonable priced. My dog poppy is always happy to go there for daycare. I love that in the summertime they also put little pools in the daycare area so the dogs can have some extra fun. They are always my first choice for boarding! People need to start opening their eyes as to what is going on at Candlewick Kennels. I brought my dog for the first time. What I watched on cameras was horrifying. To the point I had to leave my job and go pick up my dog. It's over 85 degrees (feels like 92) out with the humidity at 66% and the dogs were outside from 8am finally brought in around noon, with the exception when they brought them in for a few minutes only to let them back outside again. I witnessed dogs being yanked around by their collars because they didn't do what the individual wanted when they wanted it (more than one person in the back did this). I saw leashes being fashioned into a loop and put over the dogs head instead of hooked to the loop of their collars and pulled. These people in the back watching the dogs have no clue what they are doing, and the lack of training shows (you don't pick up dogs when you're in a pack of dogs, yank on their collars to get them to do what you want). There are wayyyy too many dogs (all about the money not the well- being of the animals) for the amount of indoor space, hence why they leave them outdoors for as long as they can regardless of the temp. outside. Two woman came to visit, all the dogs were shoved back outside until the women left after just being all brought inside for a few minutes of air. It was ridiculous, hopefully the women don't fall for it. Higher energy larger dogs boxer type jumping around a Yorky, the boxer type almost landed right on top of the Yorky (a guy that works there ended up picking the Yorky up). You shouldn't have to be concerned about who is doing what to your dog while they are at daycare. I would NEVER recommend this place, I've been using daycare for over 15 years. This daycare is so poorly run there is no way I'd ever bring my dog for daycare or boarding, I would be afraid of the dog being hurt. Corporate greed at its finest, is this really how you want your dog to be treated? read more

My dog has been to many day care places and this is by far the best. He is always so happy to go there. Other daycare places the staff would seem aggravated with him as he is very high energy and when excited he will pull on the leash. The staff at candlewick has never seemed upset at my dog and has always been very accommodating. Everyone there seems to really love what they do too which makes me more comfortable bringing my dog there. My dog was bit once while he was there (which happens - they are dogs) and staff was really good about immediately alerting me and reaching out afterwards to make sure he was doing okay. Our dog seems to have a good time whenever she visits Candlewick Kennels for an overnight stay. Check in and check out are always easy, and while their pricing is not the cheapest, it seems to be a good fit for our dog, especially given the location and convenience of the kennel. The only drawback is their weekend policy, as they do not open until noon on Sunday, so you are forced to pay an additional day's boarding fee due to the afternoon pickup. If you drop off on Friday afternoon and pick up on Sunday, you pay for three days, even if you pickup as soon as they open on Sunday. Other kennels will charge you for two days since you can pick up before noon. It's not a fair policy, in my opinion. read more

Our golden has been going here for daycare since she was 4 months old and she's a little over a year now. I love it because she comes home tired and happy. It would be hard to overstate how important socialization and exercise is for a high energy breed puppy. Candlewick literally made the first year so much less stressful than it would have been if we had to come home to a puppy that needed 1-2 hours of hard exercise to calm down every night. Two nights a week, fine, five nights a week? Ugh... Daycare is so so worth it. Plus it's only slightly more than having a dog walker come and let her out so why not have her be happy and tired at the end of the day instead of miserable in her crate? She did get kennel cough around 6 or 7 months old but it wasn't a big deal. It's like having a kid in daycare. They're going to catch the cold that's going around. The kennel cough vaccine makes it less severe if contracted but doesn't guarantee that the dog won't get it. I wouldn't bring an immune compromised or elderly dog because kennel cough can be serious for them but for a healthy dog it's basically like the common cold. She stayed home on antibiotics and was better within a week but we kept her home longer according to their policy. She hasn't had it since. Most importantly, every day we pull in she still gets so excited and can't wait to get in to play. Also, love that they don't require a reservation for daycare, we just drop her off whenever we want. The staff is awesome, friendly and make everything as quick and convenient as they possibly can. read more

My family had brought all 4 of our dogs here when we had to leave town for a few days to go to my grandfathers funeral. I came back early from the funeral to pick up the dogs, I gave the kennel at least a 5 hour warning that I was picking them up. When I arrived I was still upset and just got the dogs into the car to bring them home. On the way home I noticed they all smelled like urine, upon further inspection all 4 dogs were soaked in urine and had to be bathed when I got them home. I noticed the same day when I got them that they all had a cough. All dogs had contracted kennel cough, ALL HAVE GOTTEN VACCINATED FOR THIS. My little pomeranian ended up getting pneumonia and almost died. This is my baby. I was so shook up by this that I will NEVER leave my dog in a kennel again. When I called the kennel to tell them what happened all they did was say they were not liable and that there was a sick dog in the kennel but all dogs shot records are checked. This mistake on their part led to very costly vet bills and almost the death of my dog. NEVER bring your dog to this kennel. My dogs were all traumatized by this and we will never leave any of them at a kennel again. All of these dogs were very healthy dogs, im lucky I got them back all alive when it was all said and done. *I want to add that they have tried to remove my review more than once! Whether it be a holiday, or a last minute getaway, Candlewick is always accommodating. I picked them up today, the day after Christmas, and they gave each of them a gift bag from Santa. They were so excited to go through them and pull out all the treats and toys. Very surprised by the sour grapes reviews because this place is a pet oasis! I brought my corgi here today for a long overdue grooming appointment and I was VERY impressed. For years we've been going to places like Pet Smart and Petco for grooming, and I can tell you with certainty that this is above and beyond the big box offerings. When you drive in, you feel like you're entering a mountain resort. There's a fireplace when you walk in. It's CLEAN. It's friendly. It's relatively inexpensive. I know that my dog is safe because someones around 24/7 .The indoor out door slots for each dog is pretty cool so your dog won't have to hold in their pee or poop. I love this place over a kennel that "says" they walk them 2-3 a day .They'll pretty much do anything you ask them to do for the comfort of your dog. The 20 minute play time /walk options is a major plus so your dog gets some individualized time and stays active. The place is open M-Sunday as well. read more

My parents brought their elderly dog here and when they went to bring him home he was covered in his own urine(Supposedly they had bathed him) had lost 10 lbs and was dehydrated. He threw up at least 4 times when they first brought him home because they didn't cut up the food for him to digest properly. They had to take him to the vet for a couple of days after to make sure he was healthy and ok. DO NOT BOARD YOUR DOG HERE! I boarded my 5 1/2 year old American Bulldog, Lady Bella, for the first time ever and had the best experience! Actually, I'm not sure who had the better time. I was able to be away and relax and she was having a great time without me. When we returned it was to Hurricane Sandy and I would have thought mass confusion, but the entire staff was organized and calm even though it was windy and awful outside. I was thrilled to see my Bella after a week apart and she well wanted to stay and play. Anyway, she seemed to enjoy herself and although I'd like to think she missed me terribly Candlewick Kennels had quite an effect on her because she slept for days following from too much playing! After a horrific experience boarding at Free Range Kennel in Glastonbury I was very apprehensive to ever board my dog again. I have boarded my dogs multiple times in the past without a problem at this facility and frankly my dogs seemed to really enjoy it however they were both boarded there recently and have both developed Kennel Cough. My dogs are large dogs who are 10 and 11 therefore do not have the immune system as younger dogs do. Candlewick claimed they have no liability since vet records and proof of Bordatella Vaccines are mandatory for every dog I am now incurring hundreds of dollars of vet bills on top of the cost that I incurred to get their vaccines since its "mandatory" and the close to $600 it cost to keep them there for a week... Together in the same kennel and I supplied all food... Ripped Off and $1000 poorer my dogs are still recovering! read more

If I could give zero stars I would. I boarded my beloved dog here. I will never bring him again. I dropped him off with medication that he NEEDS daily! I made sure my vet gave me a full bottle, and when I picked him up, only a few pills were gone. It's upsetting that they wouldn't care about properly give him the doses. ZERO STARS. My dog was groomed here for over a year. No complaints until a switch in groomer was made. We were apprehensive since my little one is VERY bad with change. Also she dislikes water so grooming her is already a challenge. She is typically very overtired by the time she is home. That's normal, what is NOT normal was the way she came home the last two visits. Dissociative, scared, trembling. NOT OKAY PEOPLE. She does not have access to the upstairs but managed to bolt up into a room SHE HAS NEVER BEEN IN ALL HER 4 YEARS OF LIVING to hide in a corner. DO NOT TRUST YOUR ANIMAL HERE IF THEY ARE SENSITIVE. Yes this is likely caused by her being agitated and needed to be strapped in some way shape or form. All of this would have been okay if management was willing to tell me exactly what happened. They made it out to be MY FAULT for the time we picked her up. WELL we called that last day and ASKED to come get her if she was ready. THEY SAID SHE HAD BEEN READY FOR SOME TIME. HA. We have boarded our labrador at Candlewick several times. Early on we had an issue where our dog came home with kennel cough. We ended up taking her elsewhere for a while but eventually gave CW another try. All was good for about half a dozen visits until this last visit where she came home again with a severe case of kennel cough. I realize that this happens but it ends up almost costing as much in vet bills as the boarding does. What really bothers me is that they act as if it just happens with no explanation or responsibility. Our dog did not leave home with this. Time to look elsewhere. read more

I recently switched to using Candlewick for all of my boarding and doggie day care needs and have been very happy. I previously used a highly touted one in Colchester but have switched allegiances. The staff is super caring and willing to work with you on any special issues your dog may have when in their care, whether it be medical or a social issue. I can't say enough good things about the experience I have had with all of their staff so far. My dog gets excited when we drive up the long winding driveway to Candlewick, which makes me happy to know he likes it there too! They even have "trail walks" in the woods for your dog while boarding, where your dog gets a one on one leashed walk through the woods (all still fenced in). They let you drop by for a tour of the kennels, grooming, or day care at any time during business hours, so if you are hesitant, stop by and talk to them. I felt so much better leaving my dog in their care after taking an impromptu tour. read more

We left our puppy here for a week with daycare included while we were out of the country to learn that "they didn't know what happened" but she had to be rushed to our vet because (from what we've ruled to be the only possibility) that her tail was slammed in a door. She received many stitches, bled like crazy, and almost had to have part of her tail amputated. Candlewick took no responsibility and didn't even offer to cover her vet bills. My dog could have been even more very seriously injured because we trusted this facility to take care of her and they did the complete opposite. Do not bring your dog(s) here!!! read more

Grooming is great. Boarding was great. However, last 3 times our dog has been sick when we got him back from the kennel. First time was kennel cough. The last two times our dog has had diarrhea, vomiting, lack of appetite, and has been lethargic. We thought he would recover within a few days. However, he didn't. We had to take him to the vet and pay $250 each time for shots to combat the diarrhea, medication for days following, and prescription diet for the following week. Looking for a new boarding facility because of this. read more

I have boarded my two golden retrievers and had them groomed many times at Candlewick. We have had nothing but positive experiences, and the grooming is wonderful; my older dog is very nervous, and uncooperative when I bathe her at home, and she has come home looking great every time! Boarding is expensive, but we've had no health or other issues as are mentioned in some of the other reviews. And they certainly do check your vaccinations, even for grooming when you don't board. read more
