I have a 1.5 year old Golden Retriever and he stayed here from Monday-Sunday and it looks like he was abused. I have taken him here before and had no issues. But this time was absolutely terrible. When I picked my dog up he was happy and playful as usual. When I got home I check him as usual for ticks, fleas, scratches, etc. since he was somewhere other than home for that period of time. I do the same thing after the dog park, the lake, pretty much anywhere. It didn't take much checking to see SCABS ALL OVER HIS EARS AND NECK. The pictures do not do it justice. We called and they said they were watching my dog the entire time. That has to be a lie by the amount of wounds he has. They told me he was perfectly fine when I picked him up as if they never saw any open wounds or blood on him. With the size of his wounds that cannot be the case. I cannot believe I paid them $210 to NOT take care of my dog. Please look at these pictures and refrain from ever giving this place an opportunity to watch your dog. read more

We were visiting family during our travels. We all decided to go Family activities which would not Include my fur baby. We left Brooklyn for an evaluation and he Passed. He got home and slept good all night. He returned Saturday am for his weekend stay and was eager to get in the building. We want to let you know We were very pleased. Especially he gets to play with other dogs during boarding which is not offered at a lot of other boarding facilities. This will be Brooklyn's 2nd home for overnight sleep overs. read more

I've been using camp canine for a while now. They kept mixing my dogs up the first few times I used them, I brushed it off even though I still felt off about it. This last time we picked up my dog, his behind was covered in poop. About 3 days worth (which is how long he was there). It was so gross. The owner, Dawn, handed him over without saying a word about it. When we called them asking what happened, she got extremely defensive. No apologies or professionalism I would expect from an owner. Just blaming us, clearly it was our fault they didn't wipe him off. I tried to cut through the poop with scissors and it was like trying to cut through rocks. I had to clip the tiny hairs from his skin to the poop to get it off. My dog was so upset and so was I. This is not what I expect from people who are supposed to be trusted with dogs. The response is very professional now, had I been talked to this way, I wouldn't have had such an issue. Yes, grandma was told to bring baby wipes however, it was not mentioned to her that he had poop all over his behind- yes it was all over. It was so unacceptable. Had we been told ahead of time about the poop issue that was apparently in the record, I would've handled baby wipes and such. When I inquired about wiping the dogs, Dawn was anything but polite. She said it's not their policy to wipe dogs everyday, they don't supply the wipes. I understand that and I would gladly sent some in. In the mean time, they could've easily taken a wet paper towel and wiped him off instead of leaving it on his behind the entire stay. I never said there was a problem with the other dog, but this is not what I expect when paying to have my dog taken care of. read more

I have never dealt with anyone else in this business that is more caring or knowledgeable. During a recent stay hile I was out of state one of my dogs was injured, they got him to my vet for treatment and brought him back! I'll never bring dogs anywhere else. read more

I have to say, the first day I was extremely happy that my pup appeared to enjoy his stay. Upon initial review camp canine new we had a deaf pup and they stated that was not an issue at all. Today I received a call stating he got bit by another dog. This is unfortunatly expected but they kept stating it was because he was deaf. My dog got punished because of another dog biting him because he was deaf. I am so upset and hurt by this situation. Were the staff even paying attention. This was only day 2 for our pup! read more

My pup Theo LOVES going to Camp Canine and I love bringing him there. I always know he's going to be well taken care of whether it's for day care or for boarding. They are very well organized making sure his special diet is managed, that he gets his medicine, and that he always has a sweater if he gets cold. Oh! And that he gets plenty of snuggles too. Love this place! We have 2 dogs and we always have them stay here while we're away. They have a great set up of letting dogs play together.. we've never had a problem with our dogs staying here.. plus their grooming is great.. they do an awesome job. :-D You can sometimes see your pet on the Facebook page while you're away too ! When we lived in Bristol, we would bring our dogs here once a week, especially in the winter, when they were more likely to get stir crazy. We also did multiple overnight visits here when we went away on vacation, and the dogs always came back content and tired out from playing. (We have since had horrible experiences at other overnight doggie daycares, and we sorely miss Camp Canine.) In a nutshell, this place is fantastic. The staff is excellent - it's clear they adore dogs. Our dogs were ALWAYS excited to arrive, from the second we pulled into the parking lot, and used to greet the staff with such happiness that they wouldn't look back even once on their way in. : ) read more

This was my firsr day taking my chihuahua PJ to a daycare and I absolutely loved Camp Canine. The staff was very friendly and the check in process was very quick. I am boarding PJ this weekend and I feel so much more comfortable now. He was so excited to see me when he got home and is sleeping soundly! When my husband picked PJ up they even gave him treats and a detailed report card of his day. Great establishment. Very affordable and you can tell the staff truly love dogs! read more

Camp Canine is the best. I would not trust my handy field dogs to just anyone but Dawn and her crew. She is an Alpha Terrier through and through and manages her shope efficiently. Our two dogs were boarded on Thursday June 1 at Camp Canine at approximately 12:30 pm. I requested day care for both dogs in addition to overnight lodging with a pickup time on Sunday June 4 between 4 to 6 pm. We have boarded the dogs here at least three other times with no issues. They have always had a bath at the end of their stay. Baths are not available on Sunday. We were offered a Friday bath which seemed unnecessary since they arrived there Thursday afternoon. I arrived approximately 4:30 to pick up the dogs. I requested they give me the sheltie first to put in the car. I went back into the facility and noticed my daughter's dog was not near the front desk anymore. After a few minutes they brought the Maltese out again. The woman there started talking about the fact that he can get messy and that we should bring baby wipes in for this dog. I responded that that was a good idea. I put the dog in my arms and we left the facility. It was not made clear to me that the dog currently had feces on his butt. I drove to my daughter's apartment to drop off the dog and at that point noticed that he had a mess on his behind. I was shocked. My daughter called Camp Canine to talk about this situation. I then did a follow up call. I was very surprised that it was actually the owner Dawn who turned the dog over to me in this condition. She did admit that she tried to get the mess off of him and what was left was dried on and she couldn't get it off without soaking him in water. She was very unapologetic. I am so surprised that an owner of a business like this would release a dog in this condition. I pointed out that they knew the time of pickup between 4 to 6 and no one checked the dog prior to my arrival. I also pointed out that it takes time for feces to dry so I don't know how many days this was on his behind. His skin in that area was inflamed as well. Apparently this can lead to a condition called pseudocoprostasis or dried fecal matter on the anus leading to inflammation and infections to the dog. Additional passage of the feces becomes very difficult and complete obstruction of the anus can occur. Fortunately it didn't happen in this case since the dog was there for four days. She was very defensive over the phone and said that is why she is recommending to bring in baby wipes to alleviate this problem next time. I questioned why they couldn't use a wet paper towel. She implied that it's not their job to wipe the dogs behind and that this happens because his hair is long. She did make the effort to remove the feces while I went to the car with the other dog so clearly she was aware this was an issue and tried to correct the problem. I have boarded many dogs over the years at different facilities and have never encountered this situation. Dawn, the owner was incredibly defensive leaving me with the feeling that it was the our fault and the dog's fault. I stated that this dog was left in your care and you turned the dog back in this condition. I think I would have understood if it was an inexperienced employee that had done this but I was shocked that it was the owner. We will not be going back. Jan K. read more

I too used to bring my dog to Camp Canine when I lived in CT and it is as good as it gets! The staff are all adults (no kids from the local high school) and they are all knowledgeable about dogs and canine behavior. The staff is always courteous and very responsive. I felt safe leaving my dog at Camp Canine. I know he would be well cared for, clean and happy upon my return. Camp Canine rocks! read more

This is a great place! My dog stayed here for 4 days and nights, and had a great time. They offer training classes, doggy daycare, and boarding. You can even have your dog stay for boarding, but participate in the daycare also. They have excellent rates, and a great new facility near the Bristol-Southington line, which is a really convenient location to the highway. read more

This dog boarding/day care is awesome. Our dogs have been coming here for both services for approximately 10 years! Dawn, the owner does a great job. All dogs need updated vaccines & are monitored when they are together for the daycare. Clean, safe & our dogs love to come here. The staff truly enjoy the dogs & you can tell by the way they interact & how our dogs respond. We just boarded for 12 days & we feel relieved that our dogs are safe & enjoying other dogs, not just in a kennel all day. Plus, pics are posted on FB which we love to search for while away. Very grateful that this establishment is available I feel that the rates are reasonable for the service given. You can't put a price on peace of mind. read more

I have only been bringing my dog to Camp Canine for a few short months but I really wish I had done it much sooner! The staff and the owner are extremely nice and they take such good care of the dogs. They also offer a very flexible schedule for pick up and drop off which is very convenient for the working folks. While I'm at work all day I have the peace of mind knowing that my dog is having fun socializing with the other dogs, getting plenty of exercise, and receiving lots of attention from the staff. Unfortunately my dog won't be able to go any more because we are moving out of state but I would highly recommend Camp Canine to anyone and everyone who owns a dog. My dog and I will very much miss all of the staff at Camp Canine and I thank them for a job well done. read more

Beware Pit Bull Owners. They do not allow Pit Bulls in daycare. This is not mentioned anywhere on their website or during the intake interview. I boarded my Pit Bull for a long weekend expecting that she would be able to socialize with the other dogs. Instead, other than a few short walks for potty breaks she was left in her kennel all weekend. I was heartbroken to learn this when I picked her up. Apparently, Pit Bulls "get too excited when playing with other dogs and cause problems". I can see by the photos on their Facebook page that they allow all other breeds to play together. Why not take it on a case by case basis? There are plenty of dogs, of all breeds, large and small, who are not good with other dogs. That is not the case with mine. She is very sweet and loves people as well as other dogs. The main reason I chose this facility was because of the daycare aspect. To make matters worse, even though they could see that I was visibly upset they offered no apologies neither for their questionable policy or for the omission of information at the very least. Just one more case of broad discrimination against a misunderstood breed. And no apologies for it. read more

I went to camp canine the other day to speak with the staff about potentially boarding my dog there while I am on vacation. The staff is incredibly rude and unknowledgeable. I would never board my dog with people that rude. The place is even gross. Their prices are ok - but I guess you get what you pay for. We first boarded our dog at Camp Canine for a long weekend. They were great, took care of her and were very nice to us. We then felt comfortable boarding her there again when we went on vacation for 9 days. What a nightmare. First, I was concerned when I noticed that my dog wasn't in any pictures posted on Facebook. Were they putting her in daycare like we asked? When we called to check up on her, they called her a "he" and quickly rushed us off the phone. I was told that some pictures don't show up on your phone.....wow what an excuse, and highly inaccurate. When we went to pick her up, again we were rushed out of there without any update on how she did or a report card. Upon returning home we found almost half of her food was returned to us, and that she has severe eye discharge. I was never informed if my dog wasn't eating, so this angered us greatly. Over the next day or so we realized she wasn't eating and then noticed she had hemorrhoids. We brought her to the vet and my dog had contagious conjunctivitis in both eyes and was extremely dehydrated from not eating or drinking all week. Upon calling Camp Canine to tell them, I was met with extremely rude individuals who had every excuse in the book for what had happened. Apparently my dog was fed and drank, even though I had proof of otherwise. After an incredibly rude conversation with who I thought was simply a manager as Camp Canine I was returned my money, and found out that the individual I was speaking to was actually the owner! Unacceptable. I would never send my dog there again, and have told many friends who have sent their dogs there to do the same. They are all unprofessional, rude, have excuses for everything, and who knows what is actually happening when you drop you dog off at this establishment. read more
