My normal kennel wasn't available for the Christmas holiday week and, after 15 years of using the same place, I had to quickly find another kennel that I felt comfortable leaving my dog at. This place will be my first choice going forward. My 15 lb Tibetan spaniel came home calm, clean and I could tell they took the time to really brush his long coat. Going on the recommendation of a trusted coworker and fellow pet owner, I boarded my dog at Holiday Pet Lodge for one night after all my other dogsitting options were not available. Typically, I am anti-kennels because my pup is spoiled and relishes in being on the furniture and making himself comfortable wherever he is. I have two regular dogsitters who care for him in their homes, which is why I use them. Another kennel I have used in the past never seemed to know if my dog ate, took his meds or had any issues, because they have so many staff coming and going. Holiday Pet Lodge is quite the opposite: family run, small staff and I got a good feeling as soon as I arrived. I labeled all of my dog's food and medication and when I picked him up there was no question about if he ate or not. Oh and their prices? The most reasonable I have seen--cheaper sometimes equates to poor service, but I believe they genuinely want to have reasonable prices for their customers, yet still provide quality service. The location is also convenient and very tranquil, in a wooded area that feels like you are hiking in the woods or at summer camp. The decor is right out of the 1970s which makes sense, since they have been in operation since 1977. Its quaint and cozy and I like that they've kept the original wood paneled walls in the lobby and even have an original radio that was built into the wall. They have no computers either, everything is hand written on paper and index cards. Again, it brings you back to simpler times and it's a nice step back into time. read more

I recently moved to New Haven from Philadelphia. We boarded our two dogs, June and Harper, here over Thanksgiving while we were away. I had never boarded them before, so I was very nervous! The staff put me at ease and they had no issues. I was worried since June has some acid reflux, but she was fine! They even told me how great of friends my two pups are, and commented that they both ate very well! The facility is clean, and they didn't mind my babies putting their paws up on the counter to say hello when we arrived. Holiday Pet Lodge has decent prices and everyone was very friendly and made me feel very comfortable about leaving my babies there. They love the dogs that stay there, and they take great care of them. I will definitely use them again! read more

We have been bringing our yellow lab to Holiday Pet Lodge for 24 years. Of course we are on our third consecutive Yellow Lab, LOL. Our latest new 8 month old pup Molly has been there all week and we can't wait to be picking her up this morning! The folks there LOVE dogs and do a great job. Our last lab Lucy was a bit spastic... We were worried they might mistake her angst as anger... The woman there said... Lucy?? I love Lucy, I lay and cuddle with her at the end of every day! what an incredible relief it was.... We've had our dog for about three years now, and it took us about about two years to get over our initial separation anxiety to be able to board him when we go away. While we prefer to bring our pup with us on trips, sometimes it's not feasible, and we need somewhere for him to stay. That's where Holiday Pet Lodge comes in, and I'm glad I can feel comfortable leaving our best pal in their care. I chose Holiday Pet Lodge based on its great reviews and its location. In Wallingford, it's not too far from where we live, and it's often en route to where we're traveling, making it easy to drop our dog off on our way out of town. I like that it feels like we're bringing our dog to camp for the weekend, and I like the old school booking system with paper index card profiles and cash or check only to pay. We've added a bath and nail clipping to each of our stays, which adds to the convenience of boarding our pup. Whenever we pick him up, he's not only excited to see us, but he comes out clean, and with freshly clipped nails. read more

Stay away from this money-grubbing clip joint. If you pick up your animal after 11 am, they charge you a full overnight rate, and rarely does one get back from a trip by that time, so you're almost always stuck with an extra day's charge. Every other place I have boarded my animals does not charge for an afternoon pick up. In addition they charge extra for walks. Moreover, they forgot to give me the dog toys I had left for my dog to play with, my dog did not have a good bowel movement when he returned home, the owner was rude when I asked about the extra day's charge, and the person who I asked earlier about the late charge rule gave a reply that was at best misleading and at worst deceptive. I have never before written a review as scathing as this one, so please do not regard me as a grump but rather as a very disappointed customer. read more

Been bringing our dogs for years. Never an issue. Price is reasonable. Staff is courtious, professional, and warm. Most important, our dogs have all loved it there. They are happy and seem very comfortable. Our current dog is, shall we say, is 'special'. She's a 75 pound American Bulldog rescue who had been abused. She's scared of everything, runs from the broom, shivers in fear after loud noises and has difficulty around other animals. To her, every new experience has the potential to be traumatic. She hates everything! Somehow, for some reason, she absolutely loves Holiday Pet Lodge. Hopping, jumping, tail wagging, licking the staff every time we go. read more

The staff is always so friendly and very welcoming to our dog when we arrive. We periodically call to check on him during his stay, and they are always happy to give us updates. Our dog Luna had been to daycare a few times, but we had never boarded her. Holiday Pet Lodge was one of the few places that let us "walk in" for a tour of the facilities and the only place that listen to and addressed the concerns we had about any special care/handling Luna might need due to her blindness. When we picked up Luna she was very happy to see(smell/hear) us, but not stressed out. The staff did a good job taking care of Luna and handling our nervousness with leaving Luna for the first time. Please do not use this kennel. I used them happily for several years until a very traumatic incident when my 2 dogs stayed with them this past week. When my mother picked the dogs up, my younger dog Maggie had a large amount of open wounds all over the side and front of her face. There was no apology offered, no vet call, and they dismissively stated that my mother dog Delilah had attacked her in the kennel. My two dogs spend every day together, sleep snuggled up, and have NEVER had an aggressive incident. When I asked for camera footage (which every reputable kennel should have), they said they did not have any. Even if an incident did occur between our dogs (which I doubt), WHY were we never called? WHY was a vet not contacted to treat Maggie's injuries? Our vet was appalled that no medical care was taken and that they did not call us to inform us about the incident. Now we have a large vet bill for a visit and antibiotics and NO RESPONSE from Holiday Pet Lodge regarding the incident and reimbursing us for the large bill. read more
