After leaving our family dog at another pet spa/boarding facility (which was his first time ever staying in a boarding facility), he returned ill. Our vet recommended Village Pet Spa. I stop by to drop of medical/shot records and received a warm welcome. My dog was clearly well cared for while there and got himself a haircut. He looked amazing with his new cut. I was so releaved that he didn't come home sick and was his normal playful self. My review is more of a story lol... Years ago I inherited a very large cat (20 pounder) whose only issue was that he had a hard time cleaning his back as he aged. I think it was a Google search that led me to Village pet Spa. They helped him out by cutting down his matted fur and making it easier for him to clean himself. I brought him back a few times a year until he passed away about 11 years ago. We then adopted 2 more cats and it was suggested to me by a friend that I get them shaved to cut down on shedding. I wasn't sure about shaving short haired cats but I called and asked. I was told they would give them baths, clip their nails, and give them "lion cuts". It was super convenient because I could drop them off in the morning and then pick them up after work. I thought my cats would be angry when I picked them up, but they seemed to actually strut around the house when they came home, as if to show off their new cuts. Fast forward a few years, we moved to Canton, about 45 mins away from Wallingford. Although I loved the friendliness and service provided by Village Pet Spa, I thought it would be logical to take them somewhere closer to our new home. I was wrong. I'm not sure why- maybe it was too chaotic at the new place - but they seemed to be stressed out when they got home. They hid under furniture instead of strutting like they usually do. And their cuts seemed choppy. So we are back at Village Pet Spa. After experiencing one visit to the local groomer, I noticed some differences. The overall atmosphere at Village Pet Spa was much calmer. The dogs being groomed looked happy and well behaved. The cages were large, I didn't hear much barking at all, and everyone I came in contact with was happy, relaxed, and talked to the animals. When I mentioned this to one of the owners, he said the more difficult dogs are kept in another room so they don't stress out the others. Also so they aren't more stressed themselves by seeing so many other dogs. It takes a little more planning now since they aren't close, but my cats deserve to be treated kindly and not stressed out all day. read more

I've been coming here since 1981. In other words I've been with Rod since he first started! My children were still in diapers. This place is professional, courteous, clean and it's obvious that they love animals. My cat gets a Lion cut which is perfect each and every time. My long haired German Shepherds always needed extra attention on their fur. When boarding is required there is no hesitation. My dogs arrive calm and are picked up happy. I have a purebred Persian who's fur is so long it's hard to keep him brushed plus he really hates it. He also had the worst knots that couldn't be brushed out. Long story short he needed some serious help, so I asked my friends on Facebook about a place. Hands down it was Village Pet Spa and Kennel. I have to say as soon as I brought Gizmo in, I knew they would help him get fixed up. Well I was right, they did an amazing job. Yes it took till closing time but he looks amazing. Yeah his fur is really short but there's absolutely no knots anymore. I was told if I want to keep him knot free to bring him in around 3 months, so I totally will!! I had an unfortunate experience this past weekend at Village Pet Spa. I was traveling out of town, called ahead to see what documentation was needed, and gave a full description of my very friendly, high play-drive, 2-year old labrador retriever, Brick. When I got to the Spa, I was told due to his size (70 lbs), he would essentially be isolated in the kennel for most of his stay. I unfortunately was on a tight schedule, and had no option but to leave him there, where he basically sat in a kennel for 5 hours. For a place that claims on their website: "Doggie daycare is an excellent way for your pet to make friends, learn to play and release all their pent up energy. Our doggie daycare offers a safe place for your pet to socialize while you're at work or out for the day.", I was quite unhappy. I would urge all new clients to ask, pointedly, if their dogs qualifies for play, or will be isolated. read more

They are great. I called and there was no voicemail set up. Someone called me back within 2 minutes. I was able to do a walk in to get my dog's nails cut. He was in and out of there in 5 minutes. He is a big dog and does not like having the nails cut. Their grooming staff leave around 3:30pm for the day. For full grooming, you need an appointment. They said they groom about 50 dogs a day. read more

We used to use Village pet spa for grooming and boarding for our previous dog several years ago, and they were pretty good, that is no longer the case. Apparently they are now under new ownership and we will not be returning with our current dog. The groomers misquote over the phone, add erroneous charges at their discretion and know only one cut. No matter how many ways I explain, or provide pictures of what is wanted, the dog gets a doodle-cut. If I question anything, it's one excuse after another. The charges can be as much as 50% higher at pickup than what is quoted at the time of scheduling. The owner/manager knows nothing about grooming nor the terms used. If this is your business, learn about it so you can act and speak responsibly. We're done. read more

The owners were on vacation when we took our pup in for haircut! We did not know they were away and when we picked up our pup he was bleeding from rear end being shaved too close! We ended up going to Vet and got antibiotics and sitz bath and special cream! Very upsetting when owners returned they acted as they did not know us and we had been with them throughout our animals about 20 years! We told them that the person left in charge said they were trained by a reputable Vet in town and that when we contacted that owners they said they never trained anyone on clipping animals! We have been bringing our mini Golden Doodle to Village Pet & Spa for a while now. They do a fantastic job every single time!

I am on the fence about this place now. I have now taken my cat twice for a lion cut. After the first cut, I felt like her mane was a bit too short and thought that she looked weird with her entire tail shaved. For the second time, I requested that some hair be left on the tail and that her mane be longer. when I picked her up, her tail was good, but her mane was the same as her last time, so am a bit disappointed. There also seems to be a price discrepancy. Last time, I was quoted $60, then was charged $80. I asked again how much it would be before making an appointment and was told $75+tax. When I got called to pick her up, the person said it was $85 with the tax. I am happy that they were able to adjust the price, but it is now the second time that I have had a price discrepancy. read more

We brought our dog here for many years as a young dog Honey was a rescue labradoodle and was supremely scared & shy the grooming and care when we boarded she received was full of patience and effort. As an older dog suffering from Cushings disease and scaly skin and hair loss she was still treated fantastic with care and attention to her meds when boarded and care when washed. Brought my Golden Retriever to the spa today and she received an amazing grooming! She has never looked so cute, and I could tell she had a good time and felt great by her awesome attitude when I picked her up. The employees were very nice and I could tell they really care. I dropped her off around 9am, they then called to let me know she was done and I picked her up around 1pm. Very easy. Price was very good considering the time spent and all they did for her. Don't go here. Waste of my time and waste of our money, my puppy spent the majority of her time in a crate. And nobody could give me a solid answer on why she spent so much time in there. For starters, we dropped our 40-pound golden doodle off for a grooming at 10am, and were told he would be ready by 4pm. The business is situated on a very busy main road which gets quite congested during rush hour. We arrived at 4pm and were told it would be at least another 45 minutes. Nobody bothered to give us a courtesy call, and the delay necessitated a third round-trip down this busy road. Making matters worse is that we were charged $60, and told the high price was due to our dog's size. (We usually pay $40 elsewhere). We were shocked because friends of ours had taken their much larger Great Dane here recently and were only charged $35. Perhaps worst of all is that they made our male dog look very feminine.
