I have finally put my dogs in overnight boarding as well as daycare. Since it was their first time staying somewhere without me I put them in the large kennel that has live video feed to see how they did. The second time I put them there for two nights I put them in a smaller kennel without video because I knew that everything was going well. It's a relief knowing that I can plan trips and have my dogs stay somewhere that they're familiar with, are well treated, and socializing. read more

I want to start this out by saying I've brought both of my dogs to PH since the fall of 2022. I've recommended and sent so many people to Paw Haven. I let the first incident go because we had such a great experience, until this summer. Our dogs (that are never separated) were separated overnight into 2 kennels. Previously, they had always stayed in the same one. I talked to them about it and was told it wouldn't happen again. BUT I boarded them this last week, and all I have good to say is the front desk staff is as sweet as they can be. The manager, on the other hand? He doesn't follow up or return phone calls, even though he says he will. It all started off when I checked the cameras on Monday night, and the staff had only put one bed in the room. Mind you, we are paying $130 a night for this "luxury" kennel. My 11-year-old dog laid on the concrete to sleep. I was pissed, but I decided to let it go. Stuff happens, I get that. When I picked the dogs up on Wednesday at 2:06pm. My bill was over $100 than what was estimated. I asked for a breakdown and was told the extra cost was because I dropped them off before 11 a.m. and picked them up after 2 p.m. I questioned the policy because I had never heard this before. It literally said on Paw Haven's website that THEY PREFER FOR YOU TO DROP YOUR DOGS OFF BETWEEN 7-11 (see attached pics). Also, that $50 surcharge was because I was 6 minutes late, 2:06. I called the next day to speak to the manager so they could talk me through this because I honestly didn't understand why it was so expensive. The manager proceeded to tell me that the website was wrong and had been OOD for a year. So, false advertisement? He said he would look at my account, "look to see what the website really says," and get back with me by the next day. Summary is I paid $405 for my dogs to be boarded here for 53 hours. I won't be back. I hope the $100 was worth it. They've already changed the policy online since I brought this to their attention, but haven't reached out to resolve the issue. I had high hopes for Paw Haven being that they are the newest pet facility in the area and happen to be located a block away from my office. I had also gotten positive feedback on their dog daycare services from both a neighbor and a coworker. I had some issues getting my dog in for the first free "interview" day as they were partially restricting new dogs during Covid, as well as had a change in management. I finally got him scheduled for his first day. All seemed fine, as I kept checking the cameras on their website through my cell phone. However, once I picked him up at the end of my work day and got him in the passenger seat of my car I immediately noticed the big deep raw scratch across his nose (see picture). As soon as we got home I emailed them the picture to bring it to staff attention. I did get a quick reply that they would forward the matter to the manager and check the camera footage to see how the injury occurred. A few days later I got a voicemail from said manager reporting they could find nothing on camera footage and none of the staff saw anything. Seriously?! Keep in mind this was his FIRST day. He has attended dog day care for the past 2 years elsewhere and never had anything happen, let alone on day 1. Like a job interview the first interaction should show how one represents themselves, one would assume the best of themselves. That did not happen at Paw Haven and in good conscience i cannot bring my dog back there. read more

We brought our 4 month old cockapoo in for his interview expecting Paw Haven to be exactly as advertised, "the Ivy League of care." It was not. They were not friendly at drop off or pickup, couldn't tell us anything about how he did during his day, we weren't able to tour the premises (though they advertise a tour upon request), and the way they trimmed his nails looked like someone bit them off instead of it being professionally done. We're never returning and will look elsewhere for quality care for our pup. read more

An exceptionally bad experience! We are traveling to the area for the holiday and when I first called I was told that they can accept our dogs for daycare after I create an account, uploade vaccine records and book a meet and greet. We did all of that, called back and was told we need to upload records of a fecal test, so I had to call my Vet in Michigan and get them to send me lab test, which I did and uploaded to their account. I called back only to be told they had not sorted out their interview policy for this week and they actually aren't accepting new dogs for daycare! I spent almost an hour and a half running around to do what they asked for after two separate calls with two separate people only to be told they weren't fully organized with their holiday week policy! How is this a business? Obviously poor operations if the management can't communicate to the employees fielding calls read more

Definitely would recommend Paw Haven to anyone looking for a good doggy daycare or boarding facility. Parents get camera access so they can watch their pets play and have fun. The staff treat the dogs like they are their own and show them nothing but love as well 10/10 read more

Staff does not do a good job at breaking up dog fights how could they with 20+ dogs and only one person watching them. They are NOT actual groomers they only give baths that I can surely do at home. The young lady at the desk was asleep when I dropped my dog off how unprofessional. I also told them that my dog needed medication for anxiety every morning when I looked at the bottle there were quite a few extra does this mean my dog DIDNT get its medicine?!?! THIS IS WHY I ONLY HIRE DOG SITTERS THAT CAN GO TO MY HOME. These people do not care about our animals it's clear they are there for a pay check. Paw Haven is a life saver and a game changer. My two fur babies (hound and kitty) have both stayed at Paw Haven. Hound is a regular daycare participant - she always comes home tired and happy after playing with her pals. The animals love it there. I dropped off my dog for boarding. In a matter of a week he lost about 8 lbs. I literally called everyday while on my trip and I always get the same answer "oh he is fine, he is doing good..." when I picked up my dog I couldn't believe my eyes. I started taking my dog here last year. I'm writing this review to warn people to really check out this facility and be cautious. Not long after I started taking my dog here for daycare he tried to attack another dog on the street and became very reactive. This was not the norm because he previously had no behavioral issues like this. He had been going to a daycare where he was doing well since he was a puppy. After that, his reactivity continued. But Paw Haven always said he was fine. Six months later, someone finally stepped up and said he was having issues and that there was an incident a while back with another dog. This explained why when I boarded him the month before, I picked him up after 5 days and he lost his voice. I think he was probably in a kennel just barking. I stopped taking my dog there. He can't go to daycare anymore and I can't socialize him even with a friendly dog before I see a behavioralist. The point is, Paw Haven was not honest and up front about what was going on. They waited far too long to mention that there were issues. At that time I don't think they even had the staff they needed on the floor. Again, things may have changed. But I wanted folks to be aware to really do a tour, ask around, ask questions. The owners aren't even animal people but in real estate, marketing, and in biomedical devices. They were giving people credits in the beginning to leave Google reviews, so of course a lot of them were good. read more

Very grateful to have been recommended to Paw Haven by my friends in Darien. They usually drop off their english bulldog on the way to their summer house in Nantucket since it is so conveniently located off I-95. The management and staff work tirelessly to provide a safe, clean, and bright environment for the dogs in their care and are very understanding about accommodating reasonable individual pet needs. When checking in on the camera, I often see the staff sharing affectionate interaction with the dogs in their care. Also, the team members are very courteous and caring with their pet parent clients. read more

Unprofessional and inexperienced with cats!!! Boarded my cat just before going on vacation. We get a call from the manager Ron, within 2 hrs of boarding saying going forward we cant board your cat since she is fiesty and cannot give meds and its a liability for us.why advertise you can administer meds, every cat is different, yes my cat does not like meds but i am sure most cats dont. I was under the impression paw haven has experienced staff but i dont think they can handle cats. I used to board my cat at piper olsen in middletown and had no issues ever, since we moved to New haven , thought will try this place.i tried with boarding for a day first, they said she was ok little resistance with meds and sent us pictures.so i decided lets board her for 5 days but had a friend pick up my cat within two days. This time when asked why no pictures were sent the recepetionist kind of brushed it off Please do not board your cats here they are not experienced to handle!!!! read more

The staff is so accommodating and truly seem to care for the dogs and their owners. They have been such a blessing. We have been searching for the right place for our pup for a long time... FINALLY what we found at Paw Haven checked all our boxes. Right away, the staff was so warm and friendly towards us and our beagle, Jackson, it was like they had met him before. The staff at Paw Haven took him in like he was their own. We appreciated how a full day of day care was included with Jackson's boarding- and anyone with a beagle can attest that these pups need their exercise. Jackson also has a little bit of separation anxiety so the amount of playtime, plus the soothing music in the boarding room (!!) were the highlights for us. BEWARE of grooming services!! On 12/31/20, we took our 6 month old German Shepard puppy to Paw Haven for a deluxe grooming service. My husband arrived promptly for his 9 am appointment. We were told that it may take about a couple of hours and they would call us 30 mins prior to when he was completed. We never received any phone calls or emails by 1:30 pm. We had however called at 1:02 pm but was met with voicemail. My husband decided to go back to Paw Haven to see what was taking so long because by now our 6 month puppy has to be hungry and nervous. Once at Paw Haven, my husband asked if our puppy was ready and the person at the front desk said that she had just arrived and would go see. Another staff person came to the front to say that we still need to dry him so let us hand dry him and he would be ready. Our puppy was not brought to the front till 1:45 pm; damp. He jumped on my husband I am sure out of pure relief. The staff provided no information..whether he had water, if he was caged for 4 hours, what happened when he was being cleaned, food/snacks, nothing! I called back to Paw Haven and asked for a manager which Lisa came on. In speaking with her, I asked the simple question as to why was our puppy at your facility for over 4 hours with no call or feedback from the staff? And why was he still wet? She went on a long dialogue about how he was shedding and the time it takes to clean a puppy his size and that he did not like the nail clipping so that service was not provided. When I explained to her that this was NOT his first experience with a groomer and we came there because we couldn't get him into his usual groomer she went on to state that they are not a groomer but have other responsibilities. At his usual groomer it has never taken this long and he is completely dry when picked up. I asked her why did we not receive a phone call. This was the only time there was some admission of wrongdoing. I went on to explain to her that we were in no way happy with their services and that with all the steps it takes to gain entry one would expect much better communication from the staff. I told her that I feel that my puppy was neglected. When asking for the owners names (because I wanted to send them an email) she stated that she could not provide that information except their first names. She then stated that there was no way for me to contact the owners but could talk with the general manager John. She would not give me his last name either also stating that it is out of courtesy...how do you run a business where you cannot contact the owners or know their last names? They must have forgotten all of the press they did prior to their grand opening, however their names are Jackie McFadyen, John McFayden and Kevin Rocco (thanks Google). I told Lisa that tomorrow I would call back to speak with John, the GM. Our puppy, did not smell clean, was damp and was visibly upset when he got home. He had diarrhea and would not eat. 1/1/21: Called Paw Haven to speak with John. He seemed nice and asked what happened. Midway in explaining how we saw things he interrupted me with commentary contrary to what I was saying which caught me off guard because as the GM you did not even give me the opportunity to explain my concerns nor was he there yesterday. Red flag. The conversation switched at that moment and I knew he was not a single bit concerned about my concerns or my puppy's experience. He did NOT take any accountability either. Long story short, we held off from writing a review of Paw Haven because we were hoping that in speaking with the general manager that there would be a difference but unfortunately it was not. Our concerns are; there is a huge lack of professionalism and customer service of the staff, if grooming is an add on for daycare then don't open it to the general public if you can't staff it properly, cameras are great but they are not everywhere and a text two hours after we have left of pictures of him is not adequate, 4.5 hours to groom is an excessive amount of time (with no communication from them) and no food and only 1 bowl of water for a 6 month old puppy is inhumane. Jackie and John McFadyen you have petitioned New Haven to have this business but you lack the integrity or know-how to maintain a business of this kind here. We won't even go into diversity either. What is the point of having a "trained" dog expert (John the GM) if he doesn't share that knowledge with the rest of the staff when he is not there AND he doesn't have great customer service skills with humans? My goal is to receive a full refund of my money and to spread the word of the lackluster service and dismal response from Lisa and John.
