Please please ask to see where the dogs are kept during the day, your dog will be left in a crate all day on a cement floor with no blankets, kennel sprayed with water and left not fully dried when they use the bathroom( and sometimes even the dog sprayed out of carelessness) , and if signed up for daycare don't be fooled they get to play in a room for a short amount of time and then will be put right back in those wet cement crates. If your dog is signed up for walks it goes around that little path out in front of the place and then right back into the crates. The workers will mishandle your dogs, call them cruel names, and physically push them where they want them to go. Your dogs are not being treated the way you think, if they seem happy when you pick them up it's because they are so relieved to be out of this awful place NOT because they had a good time. read more

Even though we are from out of state (would not be repeat customers), they made the experience so easy and pleasant. I am obsessed with my dog! The # of people I would trust to watch him, is like 2. I needed to go back into the office a couple days a week, so, I decided to bring him to Day Hill Kennels for doggy daycare on those days. Best decision ever! His first day, I immediately felt comfortable when I dropped him off. Tyler assured Me he would have a great day, and he did. He absolutely LOVES going, he knows the second we turn onto to Addison Rd. exactly where we are going and when we pull into Day Hill Kennel, he is so excited and drags Me into the building. It makes Me so happy to know how much he loves going and that everyone there enjoys having him. I really couldn't say enough about all of the staff there, they are a wonderful group of people and I'm happy they are part of Stewie's days. Do NOT bring your pets here. I had left several here over the years. 2 Cats, and 3 dogs. I never once picked them up healthy. Be prepared for massive vet bills if you do. I remember looking at my cats in the window and one of them looked miserable with his nose running like a waterfall when we picked him up. They almost killed my yellow lab. He was projectile vomiting for days and just laying there lifeless. I remember we had called to tell them how sick he was and they said "oh yeah...there's a sickness going around in here." They didn't even bother to tell us until we called. He pulled through and we ended up leaving him with my in-laws from that point on. Years later I figured maybe they cleaned up their act. We were in a pinch and had to leave my two small dogs for a couple of nights. They both came out super ill. When we brought them to the vet he said "DO NOT leave them at Dayhill.....they're clean (as they look clean) but they're dirty." Today I was talking to a very good friend who left his 8 year old dog there overnight recently. They got a phone call the next day saying they found him dead in the kennel. This place makes my blood boil. I also knew someone who worked there for about a week and she said they had asked her to hose down a dog outside in freezing cold. She refused and quit. I will forever tell everyone how messed up this place is. I honestly don't know how they get away with it. It's truly vile. read more

Was looking for a spot for our "Daisy" (Goldendoodle) to spend a few hours while we went to the Mark Twain Museum in Hartford (as we were coming from The Berkshires and it was on the way and close to the highway). We've been boarding our dog at Day Hill Kennels since we got her and have always had a great experience. They provided a pretty thorough tour on our first day. You have the option of bringing your own food or to use their standard food.When we do longer than a couple days of boarding, we always opt for group play as she loves to run off her energy. During those days, we can see happy pictures of her on their facebook page, which is always comforting when we're away from our furbaby. We're really glad Day Hill is here to care for our dog when we're not able to. read more

We have had only positive experiences with Day Hill Kennels. When we first called, we were told we could drop in for a tour. Do several days later we stopped by unannounced and one of the owners showed us around. We were impressed with the cleanliness, the apparent happiness of the dogs there for boarding, the system they use for managing pet medication delivery, and the owner himself. A couple of weeks later we stopped in again unannounced to drop off our dog's paperwork which would be needed for boarding. A different owner/brother. Again very impressed with him and the facility. Then several days later we dropped off the dog so we could go on vacation. Impressed then as well with the staff and owner. They were all ready for our dog. We felt very comfortable leaving him there for boarding. The when we picked him up, we were again pleased with they way the staff really seemed to know our dog. The dig was happy to see us, but did not AT ALL seem "traumatized" for having been left like sometimes in the past at other places. We are very pleased to have found a new place for our dog to go to "camp" when we are away. Kudos Day Hill Kennels! read more

We have boarded our dogs at Day Hill on two separate occasions now, and both times have been regrettable. Most recently, our dogs spent a week there. There was no communication from the staff. We were promised that there would be pictures posted while we were away, and there were zero pictures the entire time we were gone. We finally called on day 6 of our trip to ask for an update and we're informed that our sweet, lovable, and timid Hound mix had bitten one of the staff members. Their reasoning was that this was to "stop a dog fight." We were thousands of miles away and could not trust these "professionals" to keep our fur babies safe. Our dog has never shown any type of aggressive behavior whatsoever, so we immediately knew that she was in distress. The owner tried to play it off as "typical dog behavior," but we should have been contacted when this happened. The lack of communication and inability to trust this establishment have solidified the fact that we will never take any pets here again. TLDR: if you view your pets as nothing but "dogs," then this is the place for you. If you feel that your dogs are members of your family and want them to be loved and cared for while you are away- run from this place immediately. I strongly recommend John Gagnon's pet resort in Colchester. read more

Brought my GOLDEN-doodle in for grooming on October 22...our requests that our dog not be shaved close to the skin and not have poofs left on her head and tail were not followed...my dog received a horrible hair cut..directions were not followed...since bringing my dog home she's clearly a bit traumatized by this..we are not happy at all...when you request a result you expect to get that...we know the hair will grow back but that's not the point...not recommended read more

Our usual place was full and we needed a weekend away. Our vet recommended Day Hill and fortunately they could take our dog on short notice. They've converted us! The facility is clean. The staff members that we met seem to genuinely care about animals and our dog seemed very relaxed when we picked him up. It's definitely a good sign when a boarding facility encourages it's patrons to tour the facilities. We will be back to Day Hill Kennels. read more

I am the owner of one of the dogs that was listed in the recent review by their former employee and we have since decided not to bring our dog back. After that review we did some more research and found out that dogs who go for Doggie Daycare are kept in runs/kennels in the back isolated for the majority of the day. They receive only 1 hour of group play time in the morning and then 30 minutes in the afternoon. This was confirmed by the owners of the facility. We were paying $400 a month thinking our dog was playing all day while he was really isolated in the back. This was heart breaking for us, because he really did seem to like the place and enjoyed the play time he had, but we feel we were deceived and that this is unacceptable. I also spoke directly to the girl who wrote the review (the former employee) and she did say that she never saw our dog be kicked or hit, but that she did see him be pulled aggressively by his collar to the point he was visibly upset. She did mention that the two other dogs were kicked by an employee in her presence. This is absolutely unacceptable. I would like to add that I do feel confident that the Ball's made every effort to take the best possible care that they could of our Hiro and that they do genuinely love and care for animals, but that does not change the fact that these are their business practices. read more

I have never once written a review but this is outrageous. I encourage you to look at the photo provided. They clearly abuse and neglect the animals. We brought our two beloved dogs who have since passed on and one time it was clear they were not given their bedding we provided. They claim disgruntled employee- there are so many comments on other facebook pages but their own, of others who have had their dogs returned clearly neglected, changed for the worst and more. Some people have had good experiences no doubt and thank god for that. If even one animal is mistreated they should be shut down. Makes me sick to think that we brought our dogs there. read more

We dropped off our dog four days. Friday through Monday. When we got him back he was acting very unlike him. But this review is not to share my observations on his behavior this is more to share how they board the dogs. This facility needs to revise their weekend hours. The dogs are let out twice and are kept in the kennel the rest of the time . Which means on Saturday they are in kennel from 5pm to around 8 am the next day. That is if they really let all dogs out at 8 am. Reality is that they let the dogs out in batches so it's usually close to 9 or 10 am. I know this because when I picked up my dog, on a Monday the staff said he was fed and was taken out. Both false. The dog eat a complete meal and it was Very clear he was not let outside to do this business. I don't understand how they can keep dogs locked up for more than12 hours at a time. I would recommend this owner to revise their hours for the weekend. Until this please take your pets to another place and when you do please check with them on their weekend hours. Once you drive on the property you get a feeling that your dogs are checking into their own resort. It's impeccably clean, the staff is beyond respectful to owners and fur babies alike. We pick our happy pups up clean, well groomed, soft, smelling fresh and adorned with adorable dog themed bandanas. We wouldn't trust anyone else with our pets! read more

This place is the best kennel/dog day care in the area. The owners and workers are super friendly and always professional. They did a great job taking care of my old dog when he was quite elderly and not able to play with the young pups. They let my old guy just hang out during the day and instead of play time with the other dogs, they would take him out for a stroll on his own for exercise. They're all wonderful people. read more

I brought my dog Blue here for his very first kennel visit so needless to say I was nervous about it. They were very kind and understanding about my anxiety, they even called me after his first night to give me an update on how he was doing. We decided to put him in daycare during the day and when he got overwhelmed with the number of dogs they separated out some small dogs so that he would still be able to play during the day. Thankfully they are very affordable and made it possible for me to do a lot of traveling for work during the beginning of September. Day Hill Kennels is a family owned business and not a typical "Big Chain Name" camp/day care. What you get is a staff that is enthusiastic to interact, bond, and understand your pet's personality and needs. My pooch knows every staff member and when I ask him if he is ready to "go see his friends at Doggy Day Care" each morning, he races to the door and practically body convulses with sheer excitement. Needless to say, my dog loves Day Hill and we love knowing we are taking him to a place that cares about him and showers him with attention while he is under their care. After a year, we moved from the local Windsor area and took our pooch to another camp/day care in the neighboring town. From day one he was stressed and sad. It continued until one day I finally noticed his tail between his legs and his head hung low one morning as I handed him off for the day. I knew something was not right. I started taking him back to Day Hill Kennels and he bounced right back to his old self in one day. My dog was able to show me through his emotions the quality of care he was getting while at Day Hill Kennels vs. this other doggy hot spot. The Day Hill facility is kept very clean and there is no "animal smell". Minus at bit of doggy slobber at the end of a day of play, your pooch is returned to you as you left him (although he might be a bit tired from a very fun day). The reception area is away from the boarding/kennel/play area so you don't have to yell to have a conversation with the staff. We also occasionally take advantage of the grooming services they offer. We like that we can drop him off while at work and pick him up happy, exercised, and groomed! If you are reading this and trying to decide where to take your pet while you are away for a day, a week, or longer, please know this is a quality facility with owners and staff that will care for your pet to the best of their abilities. read more

We have been bringing our various Siberian Huskies to Day Hill Kennel for more than 15 years. Roger, Tyler and staff have been wonderful with all our girls. We have had some with illnesses and had no problems with the care they received. Our #6 Siberian had difficulty walking and was incontinent during her last year of life and Day Hill Kennel went above and beyond to care for her. Other kennels might not even have accepted her as a boarder. We live in Western MA but Day Hill is the only kennel we would trust to care for our dogs. Even our vet in CT said this is the only kennel she trusts. We don't like leaving our dogs but are reassured time and again that they are safe and cared for at Day Hill. I have used Day hill for day boarding a few times now and I am very pleased ! I have two that do not get along with others so they have their own day boarding kennel. My third goes in with the other dogs to play. The staff is very nice and always clean and presentable. The kennel reception is always clean and smells nice. Even the grounds and parking is clean. My 2 dogs stayed at Day Hill Kennel from Saturday (9/3) morning until Tuesday (9/6) evening for boarding and boarding only. My dogs have been boarded before, but my usual kennel was booked for the holiday weekend and I needed to find arrangements elsewhere. When my husband dropped them off on Saturday they were excited and ready to go to the point of not evening feeling the need to say goodbye to my husband. When I picked them up on Tuesday evening I was told by the owner that my dogs were good, but didn't like the staff and didn't want to be handled by them and were therefore not handled by them. This was odd because that's not how my dogs are and they certainly didn't act that way when they arrived there. He also asked if my dogs ever "rumble", which I have two 100 lb. dogs that wrestle, play, and yes every once in a long while get into a tiff. He told me that they rumbled there but when reprimanded they stopped. So I paid, took my dogs and left. First thing I noticed is that they pulled me hard to the bushes and they peed as if they hadn't been out all day long and then I also noticed blood spots on the sheet in my car when they got in but didn't think much of it because minor boo boos happen. I got them home, started loving on them, and decided to give them a bath. After washing my first dog Toby I realized that all of his back nails had been shaved down to almost raw. It was painful just looking at it. All the nails are the same length and smooth, which means that someone at the kennel had to have clipped his nails. Clipped them without permission and clearly without the knowledge because this was well below the quick. Then, after bathing my other dog Tank I noticed that he has a hole in his cheek among other minor cuts and his back knee is swollen. This tells me that either the dogs were with other dogs and there was a problem or my two dogs, for whatever reason, were having serious issues together and needed to be separated, weren't and then injuries occurred. This to me is neglect. I was told that there would be an extra kennel in case the dogs did need to be separated and that clearly didn't happen. After the baths and the findings I called the kennel and left a voice mail for someone to call me back the next day because they were closed by this time and I needed to speak with someone to figure out what happened. The next day I had to re-call the kennel because no one was returning my call. The owner got on the phone and when I asked about Toby's nails he basically laughed at me and said I don't mean to laugh, but why would we do that? I responded with that is why I am calling. He kept saying we never touched your dogs and went on to say that no one touched my dogs at all from the moment of drop off because they didn't want to be handled so again if that was the case, I'd call it neglect. He said that maybe my dogs nails scraped down from digging on the concrete except it was his back nails not is front, so he said maybe from standing on his back legs to see the dogs next to him, again wouldn't do the damage that was on his nails and his pads of his feet were uninjured. The owner said it must've happened naturally and then switched it up and said maybe I should check with the vet that clips his nails, except I clip his nails and hadn't clipped them before going because the length of them was good. I then asked about the hole in Tank's cheek and the owner referred back to them "rumbling", but then said they only rumbled once and then they kept one dog on the inside and one on the outside, but the wound was fresh which means it had just happened. However, no one had handled them from the beginning, so he says, and he said the staff reprimanded them when they rumbled and I'd love to know what their methods of reprimand are. I asked why they weren't put into separate kennels like I was told would happen and he said because my husband and I said to keep them together, which is correct, but if they are fighting then they should've separated them. Worst part, at NO point during the 4 days was I ever contacted about their being an issue. If my dogs couldn't be handled right from the beginning, then I should've been notified. The owner claimed that him and his staff felt they could take care of the issue, APPARANTLY NOT! The story isn't adding up and someone is lying. I take being a pet owner very seriously, they are my babies. The fact that the owner laughed at me when calling in concern and had no suggestions for rectifying like let me check the cameras or let me talk to staff and get back to you or the fact that he simply hadn't returned my phone call to begin with is appalling and unprofessional. I will never use this kennel again and I will also steer others away also. I have boarded my dogs before and they have never come back with wounds, with shaved down nails, or without being handled by the staff at the kennel. read more

DO NOT BRING YOUR CATS TO DAY HILL KENNEL. When I complained about the services my cat was not receiving, I was told by the owner that "it is a busy time of the year and they can't do everything." While she seemed to be getting fresh food and water everyday, that was it. There was no playtime in the cat window, the cats were left alone during the day for long extended times and several times when I went to visit, there was dried cat feces in her cage. When I pulled her out and refused to pay for services, as I told them that animal neglect is the same as animal abuse, they called the police on me. read more
