Evanston prices in Rogers Park. We had the pan meat lovers pizza and didn't think it was anything special. It was the perfect amount for two people to share. I see from the reviews that people ask for their pizza "well done" here, and I agree. Our pizza needed to go back in the oven for a few more minutes. Drinks were ok-but you can get the same thing at similar bars in the area, Howard Street Inn or Bringer Inn, for dollars less. read more

We have heard about this palace from several people but decided to go after someone from the restaurant industry recommended checking out their big one get one free pizza deals on Tuesdays. The pizza is delicious. I highly recommend the margarita pizza, the veggie pizza suffered a bit from the standard issues that impact this pizza at most places we have visited, but we are looking forward to trying all of the pizzas here in the years to come because it's absolutely incredible. read more

I haven't handed out many 5s from my friends' monthly pizza nite, but this one deserves it. It's a little out of our bailiwick but well worth the drive. It's crispy without being cracker-thin or cardboard like. It's well balanced and positively addictive. They serve a nice but not ridiculously long list of drafts and more in bottles and cans. We went for dinner tonight with two young friends, celebrating a birthday. We were made to feel so, so welcome...and while we were being seated, the gentleman asked the name of the young woman celebrating her birthday, and then placed it on the sign outside the restaurant. She was thrilled. And, he added a gift which she greatly appreciated. In addition, the food was really great. Two of us are vegetarians, and had no trouble finding selections on the menu. Great, great bar. It offers upscale good without getting upscale with the atmosphere or the prices. The burgers are really good--always well/prepared with good toppings. Every summer and winter, my friends and I come here for dinner before we leave to go back to school, and without fail, they have always amazed us with excellent service and food! We got the poutine and the fried pickles as our appetizers and they tasted great! For the entrée, we got a large pizza with two flavors, one side was Margherita and the other was a new flavor, Sweet Soppressata. I really liked the Sweet Soppressata, however I wish there was some more hot honey on it. The Margherita side was also terrific! For dessert, we have always gotten a cookie skillet, but since it's so good, this time we got two! And we finished both of them. The cookie skillet has been my favorite dessert ever, and I definitely recommend! Our servers were Charlie and Peter and they were great! Very kind. They also added a jugglar outside for entertainment, the jugglar was very kind as well and it was very fun watching him juggle! read more

Was just coming here to write that I've become a regular customer of their frozen pizzas through GoldBelly. I did also recently see they launched their own website (candlelitechicagopizzas.com) with cheaper prices, which I've also tried a few times now. I felt like I was crazy when I came here and read @Chris M's review. Holy smokes Chris, I couldn't disagree more! Candlelite frozen pizza might be the best high-quality frozen pizza I've had. I live next to Pequods - and Pequods is great! - but I'd choose a frozen Candlelite White or BBQ Chicken over a fresh Pequods. I hate to say it but I fear Chris M doesn't know pizza like I know pizza (if you saw me you'd immediately say "Wow, that guy knows pizza"). How Candlelite has been able to translate the quality of their in-restaurant pizza into frozen pizza is beyond me, maybe they have scientists in the kitchen there (I'm no scientist, I just know pizza). If you're local and feel safe in this environment, I definitely suggest getting it in person as I like the family atmosphere of the restaurant, plus the TVs, beer, and cookie skillet (I also know cookie skillets). However if you aren't local and/or prefer a pizza at home, their frozen pizza is a great option in bringing Candlelite to you. read more

Just a lil' update to this review; since COVID, they've started offering delivery, all the way into the city, and the food is still great. They've upgraded their packaging as well. Candlelite is a bit off the beaten path, at the edge of the city about 2 blocks before it becomes Evanston.  I used to work in the area, which is the only reason I know about this gem. It's a divey sports bar atmosphere, but the food and service are good enough that I drive all the way over there at least once a month.  The pizza is the standout - great Chicago style thin-crust pizza, hot and fresh.  One of my favorite places in the city for thin crust pizza. The salads are also amazing. I love a real ranch dressing; few places make their own and the jarred ones usually taste like mayo and nothing else, but Candlelite has great ranch. Great wings. And a great wedge salad with the infamous ranch, blue cheese crumbles & french fried onions. Also, the owners and staff are always in a great mood, the service is fast and friendly, and you can park right out front.  They do also have a good selection of craft beer. If you're in this hood and looking for good bar food, this is the place to be! read more

I had been here recently and was not too impressed by their pizza but decided to give them another try because I received a promo code for some free food. This time I decided to try their other items aside from the pizza. I was very impressed with their fried pickles, loaded tots, and Nutella poppers. The fried pickles were huge and juicy rather than the smaller thinner fried pickles I'm used to. The loaded tots had the perfect amount of toppings but I didn't particularly like the cheese curds that were mixed in as they were bland and too chewy. The Nutella poppers were so scrumptious with a wonderful caramel dip and vanilla ice cream to complement it. I'm glad I tried some other items from here! read more

***PLEASE NOTE: This review is only based on the take out experience*** Thin crust pizza is my favorite kind of pizza. I hail from Chicago and although I should be indoctrinated to like Chicago deep dish, I find deep dish to be extremely heavy. I eat one slice and I'm done; leaving me with a food baby in my belly! It's been awhile since I've had a good thin crust and thankfully Candelite did well on my order with only one minor exception. I ordered a large sausage and mushroom thin crust for pick up and by the time I came home with it, the pizza was cold. The crust was so thin that after a 20 minute drive, it couldn't stay warm. Perhaps the box wasn't well insulated? Either way, it was a lesson learned. Eat your thin crust in house. This was my rookie mistake. If your going to eat thin crust here, you'll have to eat it fresh at the restaurant while it is still hot. The taste of the pizza is delicious and the bar atmosphere is quite friendly. SIDE NOTES Party rooms are available for private events. Inquire within to reserve your date. Great time! Arrived at around 7 p.m., we just found this place after moving from the West Loop and can not wait to make this spot our new neighborhood place! Finally found the BEST wings on the North Side, pizza is great! It was busy this last Saturday , but the service was very friendly and incredibly efficient, for as busy as they got. This was my first time at Candlelite, but I was pleasantly surprised. What I enjoyed most was their spacious interior seating. It's also pretty quiet for a sports bar; music wasn't loud at all. They have a good variety of food as well as beers, both bottle and draft. I had their wings in 2 different flavors: chipotle, and barbecue. The flavors weren't that bad and the meet was pretty good. The only thing I didn't like was that the wings for smothered in sauce and it just seemed a little overkill. That night they were offering a free pint of beer with the purchase of any burger. Now that's a great deal that I would go back for it. UPDATE: I went back to try their pizza and I liked how many toppings they had to offer. I had feta with ground beef and it was good. I really appreciated the customer service I received when I ordered a beer I didn't like; my server offered to get me a new beer at no extra cost. Went there with my family. The one owner was super unfriendly. He stood there and stared at us pretty much the whole time we were in. I had my baby with who cried a little bit but we stopped him crying asap and did what we could of course because we are not rude inconsiderate people who don't care about people around us. The moment we walked in he didn't like us. We did nothing wrong. The pizza want the same like it used to be. Definitely changed. The bathroom for changing babies was dirty. No hook to hang the diaper bag or a purse. Had dirty rag laying and cleaner in there. We will never be back. And of course the owner tried clearing our table as fast as he could and didn't say thank you or bye on the way out. Wow nice management! read more

Honestly, don't know who rated this joint a tops for thin tavern style pizza. We ordered a well done 16in. sausage and received an under cooked ground meat mess. It was gross! 2 bites and we had to get out of there. The apps were decent (pickles and pretzel bites). Service was subpar, pizza was inedible. $60 waste. *Update* Owner offered to make the situation right, although I declined the kind gesture I think that says something for the owners of this place. My recent experience here from this Saturday Night was from the Culinary Twilight Zone...a dining and pizza malpractice if you will. When I came here after 10 pm this past Saturday Night I had the level of understanding that this is not Giardano's or Gibsons but I still had some level of expectation as far as the Pizza was concerned. The Red Eye a few weeks ago named this as a good place for Pizza and that this "joint" as they say in the classics was underrated. After further consideration maybe they are doing drugs in the break room at Red Eye. Dont erase this review as I really know they are not doing drugs @Red Eye . This is just a phrase that I am dolling out for for Hyperbole. The fries were great. Of course How could fries not be great? It seemed like the pizza was frozen then unfrozen and then nuked for 15 minutes. It was a medium veggie style pizza. Seemed like the veggies were reheated and then put on the pizza. It was horrible. The worst pizza I have ever had in my life. It would be good only if you just got out of a North Korean Gulag and they had to freshen you up for a Red Cross visit. To top it off I watched 5 dudes break into someones car which may have been their friends who forgot his keys or may have not. While that was happening someone asked them for change. I would come back but only if the pizza was good. Dress Code? you dont have to worry about that. Wear anything. We love Candelite! My kids request ordering from there all the time. Their, pizza (very thin crust which we love), burgers, fries and onion rings are all fabulous. We have also had the quesadillas, cheese curds, wraps and chopped salad. The food is always amazing and their service is great. They consistently send me coupons even though their prices are right. Do them a favor - order directly from their website versus using one of food deliver services - it is better for the restaurant. I recommend checking it out soon! read more

We usually order delivery or pickup from candlelite. Very good ultra thin crust pizza with a great variety of other delicious options. Delivery is very fast, but preheat your oven for the pizza. It always needs a few minutes to warm back up since it is thin. No loss in flavor vs eating it at the restaurant. Highly recommend. read more
