I've been to Candlelite Chicago a few times now, and it's always a solid experience. The first time I went was on a Monday, and they had their half-off pizza deal, which is an absolute steal. You're basically getting buy-one-get-one-free pizzas, but I believe it's only for the medium and large sizes. Such a great deal! Another time I went, we got the pizza again, and the taste has been super consistent every time. We tried the taco pizza, which was good, but I wasn't a huge fan of the smokiness that comes from the roasted red pepper. Other than that, it was pretty solid. The veggie pizza is also a hit--classic tavern-style with a crispy, crunchy crust that's just so good. For appetizers, we got the fries, which were awesome, and you absolutely have to end the night with their cookie skillet. It's really, really good, though it can be a bit too sweet with all the caramel and chocolate on top. Plus, the ice cream-to-cookie ratio is a little off, but it's still worth getting. Both times I've been, the service was great. The place can get really busy on Mondays, so just a heads-up if you're planning to go then. There's street parking right in front that's usually free at night, which is super convenient. Definitely worth checking out!

We love this place. We all love their pizzas and they have such a family friendly vibe. The service is impeccably fast and everyone is always so friendly. Couldn't love this place more.

I love candlelight! If you love pizza then you would love this pizza! I order a classic cheese pizza. I always say the first time eating at a pizzeria You gotta get a cheese pizza to taste the sauce, the dough and the cheese. Pizza came out fresh and hot Cut classic squares Chicago style Super thin crispy crust this is more of a Chicago Tavern style pizza then a thin crust pizza. I favor more acidic sauces over sweet. So this sauces was on point for me. Also, their beer selection is pretty decent (Son of juice for my IPA people) Service was amazing! Greeted immediately as we walked in restaurant was packed bar was packed, but was seated right away and the pizza came out so fast (10 minute's) and delicious you would think that the place was empty! The restaurant itself is beautiful with a classic marquee sign outside, love it! 100% Recommend!

Amazing food, always fresh, service was amazing. I personally had the California burger with blue cheese and raw onions and it was beyond delicious and juicy. The service is always amazing and I appreciate that more than anything. Shout out to Steve and the other gentlemen for the great service.

Fries weren't as tasty but the toppings were good. The pizza was amazing tho, love the thinners of the crust. Was sooo tasty

So good! Definitely get the white pizza with caramelized onions. The red sauce is a little zesty for my preference, I like the sweeter ones but overall super good super crispy! Def will be returning soon

It's Saturday evening. It's been a long week. You know the kind - not wanting to slave in the kitchen. The "leave me alone, I just want my couch & pizza" kind of night. Despite being comfy, I got up to "throw a pizza" in the oven. To my dismay - this frozen pizza looked really SUS. This was a sign to toss it in the bin, not risk getting sick, & order in. Yes, I could make something else, but I wanted pizza. I've wanted to try Candlelight Chicago for some time now, so there I was, on my phone, building my order... creeping photos on Yelp. I mean c'mon, we eat with our eyes first, right? Deluxe & a coke sounded heavenly. I loved the box it came in. Yes, the box - which read "If you like pizza, open this box!" It was fitting for this occasion because I was hoping this pizza would save my evening. IT. DID. The crust was much thinner than I anticipated but oh my green peppers & onions! The toppings did not disappoint - call me crazy but this is the best deluxe I've had. Every bite was balanced with everything & there was a pleasant crunch to the green peppers & onions. Those two aren't even my go-to toppings but I am now shook. This is god tier pizza. The meats were amazing & the shrooms were fresh. All the toppings were fresh. I ate the whole thing - don't judge me. I feel like a fat hamster but I am a happy one. It was amazing, night-saving, & I would do it again. In the meantime, I had to leave this review because if you're asking, "where is the pizza?!" - it's here at Candlelight Chicago.

We went yesterday around noonish and were warmly greeted by Heather who was hands down lovely and informative. We had the whole place to ourselves and the food was outstanding. Unsure if it was a fluke it was dead or if that is the standard which is sad bc the food and atmosphere are phenomenal!

Completely shocked by the flavor of everything here. The calamari was fried perfectly and had the perfect flavor, not too chewy either! Not what you expect from a local pizzeria. We also had the pepperoni pizza which was delicious and really good! A very solid thin crust pizza. They have a ton of beer options and cocktails which were great as well! The price is great and the service was phenomenal! They open pretty late Friday and Saturday too.

Sportsball on the TV, if you're into that sort of thing. it's at a reasonable volume if you're not, which I appreciate.

It's high time I updated my review. This Pizza Mecca on the north side. This, the heir apparent to the soon to be dearly departed Gulliver's. Purveyor of REAL Chicago pizza, tavern cut, baby! This place has it ALL. First the pizza. It's absolutely GREAT. Thin crust, tavern cut, gooey cheese VERY generous sizes. We got a 12" last night, and had pizza to take home (and YES it tastes good for breakfast the next day - this is important). They play sportsball games on several large TVs for sports fans, but for those who are less enthusiastic (except for Blackhawks games) like me, the volume is not BLARING. However, if you wanted to bring 20 or so of your friends to all watch a game and yell and eat pizza and drink beer, they have a side of the bar for that! Great for groups! Kids! Peoples! When the two of us roll up, we opt for the expansive bar, plenty of room to eat pizza at as well. We ended up on this night dishing with the owners, and some of the staff, and had a BLAST! GO HERE!

Always on a top ten list - here at Candlelite!!

Disappointed in the pizza. Ordered 2 mediums and both had burned crust and sparse toppings. Chopped salad was very good, though.

I came here for trivia last night with a few friends who love this place. The food looks great (I had already eaten, so I didn't partake this time), and I appreciate that they have quite a few vegetarian/vegan options. Their beer menu is extensive and my friends liked all the varieties they tried, and they have a few NA options as well. All the staff were super friendly. It's a great space. I'll be back. Side note: Parking was a bit complicated, as the lot isn't big enough for the size of the venue, but there are street parking options around. At least they have a dedicated lot though, which a lot of other places in Evanston don't have.

It's spacious and a super cool venue, which was used for my daughter's high school fundraiser last weekend. I visited Double Clutch twice within one week. The first was a meeting held at the venue right before the event where everyone got to enjoy some beer (except those of us who don't love beer and opted for water) and some of the food that would be served at the event the following weekend. I munched on some turnbuckle pretzels, fried buffalo bites and cauli wings- all were pretty good! A few days later we sold out with a 300 person event, although honestly we could have fit way more in the space because there was plenty of room to move around. The band Go Ask Your Mum was playing lots of fun 80s and 90s hits, there was a buffet of the food we had tried a few days beforehand and the bar was busy. I opted for wine, which was good. The acoustics here aren't great, which i noticed during the meeting and during the event. The band was fun to listen to, but i could hardly hear anyone i was speaking to. But that's really my only complaint since it's a great space!

I'm revising my previous review of Firehouse after an absolutely appalling encounter at this…read morerestaurant tonight. I'm an Evanstonian and have been for many years now. I've been to firehouse many many times and have always had positive experiences. Tonight, my friend and I were outright disrespected. We arrived at the restaurant at about 5pm this evening. Surprisingly they were not crowded, there was no wait, and there were several empty tables (including booths with 2 ppl in them). When I've dined here, I have always requested a booth - no matter the day, no matter the time, no matter how busy or calm the restaurant is- and without fail, the kind employees have always said no problem and make it happen. As the young man led us to a table right next to 2 empty booths, I asked if we could have a booth instead and his response was "Ooohhh nooooo! Those are for reservations." Never in the history of coming to this restaurant have I ever been told I needed a reservation to sit in a booth. So my friend and I immediately decided we would not be patronizing this place. When this guy realized we were leaving he then offers me the empty booth and says "the reservation for this booth isn't for a while so you can take this one if you want." I told him I have never ever been denied a booth or told I needed a reservation. He replied on Fridays and Saturdays they get booked up. I cannot even fathom what would have provoked this young man to be so rude and unaccommodating; not to mention we were apparently the only ones being denied a booth when there were empty booths sitting open and they were not at all crowded. This was the first visit for my friend and it was such a terrible experience. I will not be back.

It's located right down the street from Northwestern University's football stadium (whatever the heck they're naming it). This is a nice hidden gem in Evanston. Not located downtown, it may have a chance to stick around a while. As Jane V. noted in her review, you are greeted by a delicious smoky smell when you enter the restaurant. It was an inviting smell (at least for me), others in our group thought we were walking into a barbecue joint and were less than thrilled, but the menu put them at ease as it has a lot of options. There were five of us and one couple decided to share a couple appetizers as their entrees. They ordered the Cauliflower Buffalo Bites, and the Macho Nacho. They were huge portions easily enough for us all to share. However, my wife and I don't see eye-to-eye with our eating habits (she is mostly vegetarian and I'm a card-carrying carnivore), so she was not about to share the smoky wings and cheesy tots with me. I opted for the Chicken Vesuvio entree, and she and our other friend both ordered the Inside-Out Grilled Cheese. I would say most the sandwiches looked good (no portobello for me, thanks). I would say though, the desserts are pretty generic, so we opted out, but their is a door inside the restaurant to the donut shop next door (which was closed), but I wanted to try that place, so I'll have to make another trek out there for them and review them later. I'm amazed that the donut shop, DB3 Donuts, does not appear on their menu at all, despite having a connecting door from one establishment to the other, but alas, I've heard their apple crisp and brownie are good, but neither were too appealing that night. All meals were delicious and I definitely need to go back and try other dishes. And may DB3, if they are open. Give this place some love as it is a nice gem in Evanston.

So much so that I ordered the smoked Sampler plate, and was I glad I did. I started off with their Top O' The Morning special Saint Patrick's cocktail (Titos, Curacao, and orange juice shaken and poured over ice). I really loved this drink. My hubby had a Margarita that was just delightful. Our appetizers were: Angry Shrimp (really delicious) shrimp with a spicy tomato garlic sauce. Served over polenta cake. Ahi Tuna Wanton (mango jicama salsa, avocado, and teriyaki sauce) This should be their signature appetizer). The presentation is impeccable. It appealed to our eyes before the 1st bite. And,the first bite, as well as the rest, was wonderful. We would gladly return here just for this. Our entrees were: Grilled Salmon with corn risotto, grilled asparagus, smoked tomato aioli. The salmon was well cooked to medium, not too dry, and not too rare. The plate was well balanced and everything was very tasty. Smoked Sampler My favorite! Rib tips, brisket, pulled pork, Texas toast, cole slaw. For dessert: Chocolate Brownie Apple Crisp Both were so good that we did not want to share! The next time you are in the Evanston area, you really must stop in for their delicious food!

If you are like me, trying to make that light, you will never see this place, but it is there and it is super cute. There is a lot of dark wood that just gives the space a cozy feel. There are also two garage doors that I assume can be opened when the weather is good. For you folks with dogs, beer drinkers who drink beyond the basic beers, bubble drinkers (like me) and those that want to bring in their own food...this is your place. We went there to meet some friends and to watch some football. For such a small place, they do have plenty of TVs with multiple games going. It was great to be able to have pizza delivered, with the bartender providing paper plates, and napkins for us to use. The bartender was also very cool about bringing our drinks over or picking up empties as we were sitting a a table away from the bar. I didn't get his name, but he was cool. There is street parking but not on Peterson itself. I would say, depending on the day, it might be hard to find a spot as you have to park on Ridge or some of the side streets. There is a new Metra station down the street that is about 2 blocks from the bar. Not sure if there is public parking available, but worth checking out. I could see myself coming here just because I can bring my own food and still get bubbles. While they do not carry bubbles by the bottle, the stuff they had in the can was good. I would love to go there when the weather is nicer and they have the garage doors open. And it is a happy compromise to hanging out with friends who have dogs that they just can't live without who also like to drink. This is a place we can definitely hang out with them and have a good time.
