My family spent several days at a rental home a mile or so from Gracie's and, naturally, had to…read moregive the local diner a try. Gracie's is an elevated diner experience...all the breakfast and brunch things you could want, but up a couple levels from a classic greasy spoon diner. Not dissing the greasy spoon diner experience...love that...but this is based in that historical experience, with an overall nicer experience in terms of food and atmosphere. Also, before we get into the specifics, here are 2 words which would bring me in from just about anywhere: Donut menu. Yes, they make their own donuts here, and that's enough reason to stop in, take out, or worship at the front door. We got our donuts to go after the meal...The coffee was GREAT. Too often, coffee, which should be the opening star of a diner experience, can be flavorless, browned water. Here it was good. Bold as I needed it to be, and the perfect foundation for the rest of the meal. My next go-to if they have it brunch experience is biscuits. They have them...you can get a biscuit on its own or, heck, go for a mini biscuit basket! I live for a biscuit-forward establishment. The Full Breakfast (submitting biscuit or potatoes for the meat) would have been my choice, but I decided to roll my own and ended up with a biscuit, fruit cup, and side of Hash Browns. The biscuit was good, large, and perfect with butter and honey. They make the hash browns to order - large hash brown patties - and with 2 different orders of them at the table, one was overcooked, too brown, and not impressive...but the other was perfect and delicious...bordering on potato pancake territory in presentation and flavor. Our server was fantastic...we had a large party encompassing 3 different tables in the middle of a Sunday morning (On Easter no less), which is, of course, the busiest time of the week. She was friendly, enthusiastic, and never made us feel rushed. If I found myself in the Hudson Valley again, Gracie's would be a definite destination for me.

This a worthwhile place to pop in for a good meal in a nice…read moreriver view location. There are plenty of pleasant surprises on the menu for all sorts of diners. Our server was friendly. I hate to leave a harsh review but I see others have had the exact same complaints and this isn't my first bad experience here. Once we sat down and had our sandwich orders taken it was at least an hour till our food was out. I had to go to the kitchen after about 45 minutes and they said, oh, it is right here and brought out the bread/ biscuits app someone had asked for. Bread = 45 minutes. The rest of the entrees then trickled out slowly one by one ensuring half the table were done eating before the last salad finally arrived. We had assumed our server's shift had ended because I never saw her again in the restaurant until I went up to get the check form the cashier. She thenpopped out from somewhere to take over printing out my check. I suspect we were auto-gratuitied looking back but she never mentioned it. I failed to check and was just dying to get out of there It seemed like there were lots of staff but where are they and what are they doing?? . People at tables were just rubbernecking around looking for someone. No one was on the floor. No one was out in the tables. No one was watching food, timing, drinks, turning the tables, etc. It was busy when we arrived but almost empty by the time we left. We were there for over 2 hours. I wonder if there are systems in place that were created out of inexperience and are now the sunk cost way of running things. Are there sections? Does the hostess know how to manage pacing? Does the server understand timing and to check the tables? I don't mean to sound pedantic, I just don't think there are people here who understand that the job is to manage the flow, "but was it busy?" Yes, it is supposed to be. If you cannot serve someone, you need to wait to seat them. If you can't handle the tables, close a section. Just filling tables and figuring it out is unfair to diners. Thank god you can go to the front to get your check or we might still be there. :( No owner response needed

When my partner and I travel upstate, we tend to limit our dining out to the Hudson area, but I bookmarked Gaskins just in case. Fast forward to last week's trip to Hudson, and we found ourselves wanting to venture outside of our typical haunts. Germantown happens to be very close to Hudson, so we popped over hoping to snag a table (to my knowledge, they don't take reservations). What ensued was a quintessential Hudson Valley meal: farm-to-table focused on seasonal produce, and healthy without compromising on flavor. We came here at around 8:15 on a Friday night. While it was somewhat busy, there was no issue finding a seat quickly. The space itself is warm and cozy, a little rustic, and has some tavern vibes. The service was attentive throughout, starting from the swift arrival of a bottle of tap water. It appears that the drink menu is absent online, but I can attest to a solid list of cocktails and wine. My first drink was called the Gardner (if memory serves), which was sort of like a cross between a martini and white negroni (it had gin and salers) and it was super tasty. I also tried a glass of white wine that was excellent, thanks to good direction from our server. Food-wise, everything you could possibly order here is fresh, seasonal, local, farm-to-table, colorful, flavorful, delightful. A great mix of proteins in both the appetizer and entree sections, and some sides that should not be missed. I recommend sharing everything to get the most bang for your buck. Eats, below: Heirloom tomato and peaches w/ chorizo, charred corn, basil: A Summer in a dish. Tomatoes, peaches, and corn, oh my! This salad was bright and fresh, and super tasty. Though the produce was the star, the chorizo was seriously delicious. Roasted beets and blueberries w/ radicchio, bleu cheese, buttermilk, basil: A We were between this and a cucumber salad, but this preparation looked like it would give us more variety once we decided on the tomato salad. The golden beets were divine, the radicchio added some bitterness while the buttermilk dressing was creamy but not too heavy. Beautiful combo of flavors. Striped bass w/ coconut rice, peach, corn salsa, romano beans, shishitos, basil: A- Another lovely summer dish featuring an impressive array of seasonal produce. More peaches, corn, and basil, so the flavor profile was fairly similar to the tomato salad. The fish itself was fresh, light, and cooked well. Wood roasted half chicken w/ corn on the cob, red onion, hot honey butter: A My partner tends to oppose ordering chicken at restaurants because we can easily make it at home. While part of me sees where he is coming from, I also know that there are few things more nourishing than a great roasted chicken dish. This was a prime example. The skin was perfect and the sauce was unreal. Here was corn yet again, this time on the cob.

Such a creative, ever-changing menu with local ingredients and an awesome staff. If you're in the area, it's a must try. The space is both modern and cozy at the same time. Think contemporary color schemes with lots of wood accents and fun, warm light fixtures. I've been here a dozen times and always leave full and happy. This time we branched out and started with the Fried Celery Root, which our server described as "like friend green tomatoes but the texture you wish they were," which was spot on. I'll be keeping an eye out for this everywhere I go from now on. After that we tried the burger, which is always a home run here, and the squid ink pappardelle. So yummy! This is the kind of place you could eat at every week and always try something new and delicious. Run don't walk here if you're lucky enough to be nearby!

I ordered the Fontina Panino (vegan sausage, fontina cheese, arugula and fennel mustard on ciabatta) and a cortado to drink. We take out seat in the very cool back room, and only after 5 or so minutes the drink and food arrives. Now I am a complete foodie, really tough on everything I eat, but after one bite I was in love. To the point where I asked Lauren, the owner, what mustard they were using, and then ordered a panini press when I got home hoping to recreate the magic. Perfectly chewy bread, just the right balance of sweet and savory, and that mustard. Truly amazing. My wife ordered the avocado toast which she said was perfection. I wish I could bundle this place up and ship it to New Haven because I'd be eating one of those sandwiches every week. As for everything else: The service was great. The atmosphere laid back and funky. Everything was reasonable priced. LOVE LOVE LOVE Cafe Joust!

We were seated immediately in a very cozy booth, and the server was friendly and helpful. We had the fondue, of course, with apples and veggies added on. The one thing I wasn't wild about was that they charged for each drink refill, but the server was attentive and the fondue was so good that I can definitely forgive that.

But several awkward minutes passed and another party came inside before anyone greeted and escorted us to a table. Oddly, a runner walked by the entrance a few times but didn't acknowledge us and seemed to avoid eye contact. Prices were were a hair higher than expected, but thankfully the portions were filling. I went with the tavern steak sandwich ($22). The fries were the steak kind but not too fat and wedge-y. There was a totally reasonable amount of Muenster and steak, and I found that the sandwich didn't really need the accompanying steak sauce. The mac & cheese ($14) was a delightful appetizer made with a whopping five different cheeses! Last Chance mentions both antiques and cheese in its name so we had to investigate both. Instead of a separate shop, the antiques are all around the restaurant, and our server said some are for sale and some belong to the owner's private collection but he seems possibly open to offers. The cheese and gifts are in an area on the other side of the bar, with the cheese behind a counter. I thought the cheese collection would be larger and have more NY options, but it was still a solid selection. If you plan on purchasing any candy or other treats after your meal, just let your server know so you can take your bill over there.
