WOW! I've been waiting to try this spot for so long and I'm bummed that it took so long because our table was amazed. We went for a late lunch, which was a perfect idea to split tons of items and try a bit of everything. Everything was delectable, no misses!! Our table specifically enjoyed the spätzle, the potato salad, and each of the sausages. While the chicken was good, it wasn't anything super special (fried chicken, ya kno). The menu was quite extensive and I can't wait to go back and try more options and not share :)

A delicious and hearty stop after a morning hike is just what I needed. Super lively inside with a fantastic beer selection. Feels like a place that locals and weekenders visit alike. There was a food truck outside that served limited fare, but I Ordered some schnitzel inside to go so I could eat with some friends that opted for the truck food. The estimate they provided upon ordering was pretty accurate and luckily it was okay to bring the beers around the back too. Would recommend!

I've lived in this area my entire life, and somehow missed this restaurant. [[HIGHLIGHT]]First off, it is sooo cute and cozy inside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The bartenders and staff go above and beyond and they're so friendly. The drink menu is sold, with an ample selection of beers. I went with brats for dinner, which were hot, tasty, and filling. The winner of the night was the honey cake... omg, it's to die for! The Irish coffee was also an excellent choice with dessert. Highly recommend!

Bavarian pretzel with smoked gouda to start, Reuben strudel that has no business being as good as it is, Chicken Jaeger over spaetzle, and a Schweinshaxe that could anchor a table. Two draft stouts. Apfelstrudel to close. Solo lunch, $111 with tax -- no complaints. Fantastic and hospital service. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Patio was scenic.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

We have been regular customers of Mountain Brauhaus for nearly two years and, after many visits, have a good sense of both its strengths and weaknesses. The food is unquestionably the restaurant's strongest asset. The menu is diverse, includes a kid-friendly selection, and offers an excellent variety of German favorites. One of our personal favorites is the schnitzel. I prefer the chicken version, though pork is also available. The cutlet is pounded thin, crispy on the outside, juicy inside, and served with red cabbage and the restaurant's signature spaetzle. Portions are generous and prices are very reasonable. Another standout is the Königsberger Klops--veal and pork meatballs simmered in Spaten beer and served over spaetzle with capers. While listed as an entrée, we often share it as an appetizer. We also never miss the Beet & Goat Cheese Salad, which combines roasted local beets, candied walnuts, fresh orange, goat cheese, and a pomegranate-grapefruit vinaigrette. It's consistently excellent. Other favorites include the Sauerbraten, featuring tender marinated beef with sweet-and-sour gravy, spaetzle, and braised red cabbage, as well as the various wursts. The apple strudel, however, has been somewhat inconsistent. Sometimes it's very good, but other times it can be a bit soggy and overly sweet. Overall, we have few complaints about the food. It is consistently good, generously portioned, and affordable. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The atmosphere is more of a mixed experience. The restaurant is beautifully situated in the mountains near the forest, but the interior lacks some of the charm one might expect from a traditional Bavarian restaurant.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]A fireplace, more distinctive architectural details, or a warmer ambiance would add greatly to the experience.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The waitstaff do wear traditional German attire, which helps create a sense of place.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service, however, is where Mountain Brauhaus struggles most. Many of the servers are seasonal college students. They are generally pleasant and hardworking, but the overall experience can feel somewhat impersonal. As regular customers, we are rarely recognized from one visit to the next, largely because the staff changes so frequently. More concerning are the delays. Bread, drinks, and appetizers typically arrive promptly, but entrées often do not. On average, we have waited between 45 minutes and an hour for our main courses, and on a recent visit we waited an hour and twenty minutes. Our waitress later told us she had gone to the kitchen to inquire about the delay and was met with a curt response from the owner-chef. It appeared our order ticket may have been lost altogether. That experience left us disappointed. While we still appreciate the food and value that Mountain Brauhaus offers, the recurring service issues make it difficult to overlook the long waits. We will likely return, but perhaps not as often as we once did. Rating: 3.5 to 4 stars out of 5. Excellent food and value, but inconsistent service and long waits prevent it from being a truly outstanding dining experience.

Well, I see I first posted in 2016 about Mountain Brauhaus. Everything is exactly the same excellence, all around. I can only say that this place never disappoints. It is still one of my favorite restaurants. Shout out to the GREAT and friendly staff.

The food at the brauhaus is truly incredible. We went on a Friday night and although it was busy, they squeezed us in at a table in the bar area. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The atmosphere was fun and lively.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We ordered appetizers & entrees knowing we'd have leftovers for the weekend. The schnitzel, pot roast, klops & potato pancakes all come highly recommended!!! We will be back for sure

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Great food and great service in a warm and friendly atmosphere.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It's definitely worth going out of your way if you're anywhere close to Gardiner.

1st time to the Mountain Brauhaus and we'll definitely be back! Set off 87 as you drive through New Paltz, you are immediately transported into the deep mountain valley with limited to no cell service. Reservations are highly encouraged and they were prompt on honoring our time that we made the reservation for. Many walk ins tried to get a table but only space at the bar was available as they were fully booked with reservations! We started with the Rueben strudel that I wanted to loved but it honestly wasn't that hot nor crisp but the accompanying sauces were delicious. The children's portions are extreme fair sized and the chicken was a huge hit! All the dinner platters were hardy and delicious with leftovers to take home, the highlights we're definitely the potato pancakes and that gravy for the pot roast I wish I could have bought a quart to bring home! From the first call to book our reservation to the hostess that seated us to our server and waitstaff that assisted her we're all very friendly and on point. Overall a fantastic dining experience with an even better beer list that was a huge highlight of our meal!

Amazing German cuisine. We both had the chicken schnitzel prepared different ways - very good and very large portions. Next time we are splitting one dish. Each entree comes with a salad and we had the house onion vinaigrette. Also, we started with onion rings - they were great however, we should have started with the barvarian pretzel from the looks of it, it was much better and more of a classic. Service was great, plenty of people around filling up water glasses and taking empty plates. We also were seated with a nice view of the mountains so ambiance was good. I would highly recommend making a reservation- yes, it's old school calling to make a reservation however very worth it as we walked in and were seated immediately. We didn't have any room for dessert however they looked really good!

So yeah as you can imagine this place is pricey and is definitely for a special occasion. On this visit we had exceptional service and they even brought us free caviar! I have seen them do this before. We had a girls night here one time and one of my friends got there early. As she waited they gave her a complimentary glass of champagne. This type of customer service is amazing and is what is expected of an establishment of this caliber. I mean a room at the hotel here will cost you about $1000 a night. So as you can guess it is not unusual to see celebrities here as well. Before I get into the food I will tell you what made me give them 3 stars. One morning I brought a friend here that was going through something. I wanted to treat her to a nice breakfast. We sat on there terrace by the fire pits. As I've said before I've been here often. The waiter who was not as friendly as I've had before told me in order to eat there I needed to put a card on file. Huh? I've never seen that before but okay sure. I mentioned how I would likely order something to go to for my husband at the end of our meal. The service was not great because they did not come back and when they finally did they swiped my card and gave me the final check. Huh? I never said I was finished and again I had already mentioned I wanted to order something to go. When I asked this new waitress ( the original guy was no where in sight) why they ran my card already because I specifically said I wanted to order something to go her nonchalant response was that she could just run it again. I've thought about that experience. It felt so off and I would have said something more at the time but again I was having breakfast with a friend who was going through something. Not the time to complain. So when I met someone who worked there at a diffrent event. I shared my experience and asked if this is a policy of there's to put a card on file to eat on the terrace. As you can guess it is not. Unfortunately, as you can imagine I felt discriminated against. I guess our waiter assumed I wouldn't pay my check and wanted to make sure he had my card and he swiped it as soon as he saw us take the last bites on our plates. After I talked to this employee I did write the restaurant to let them know of this experience and sadly I got no reply. I will say I have been back since then and did not get treated that way. But I felt like it's important to let others know. This is by no means a cheap restaurant especially in the economy! I would expect not to be made to feel the way I felt that day and would never want at one to feel that way. Benefit of the doubt maybe that waiter did have someone run out on his check in the past and wanted to ensure it did not happen again. I can understand that because I know some restaurants make the waiter pay for those walkouts, which is also not fair to them. It would have been nice though that when I contacted them about the situation they would have acknowledged what happened. And maybe just better training on how to go about the situation to make sure their customers don't feel like you assume they are criminals. Okay the food. First there French fries are a favorite. Random I know but I appreciate a good fry. The steak was cooked perfectly and the cocktails were got were a 10! I've had food from the breakfast, lunch, and dinner menu. The food is farm to table and I love sitting either outside or by the open kitchen as you watch the chefs cook. All and all I say it's worth going even for a cocktail. Sometimes they have live music playing and it's super cute for a nice date night. They do valet parking and have tons of charging stations.

The website makes the dining experience seem elevated and superb - the upsetting reality is this entire resort is completely outdated and utterly less than satisfactory. If you are looking for vibes this place is the opposite. Fluorescent lighting, no music, dull and lifeless. We even tried going outside to enjoy the view of the mountain in the evening before our meal and none of the outside lights were on, none of the outside fire pits lit...just the most underwhelming ambiance. The place feels like a dated Amish twilight zone. When we arrived at the dining room for our dinner we entered to the sounds of no music but children running around and crying and screaming. We knew it was family friendly but imagined that the main dining that was so "esteemed" based on the website, and costs over $150 per person (before drinks) was going to have a section for adults only (especially on Valentine's Day) but really it was like a loud cruise dining hall or theme park dining hall. We had a prix fixe menu but there were folks getting buffet behind us- there's a giant buffet in the middle of the room- just ZERO ambiance. For what we paid for this evening I am utterly shocked at the experience. We are so disappointed and feel robbed of $400 and our valentines dinner. There are so many other incredible dining experiences we could have in the Hudson valley for half that price. What a scam. We will never be back.

Our first dinner was especially relaxing. We sat by the window with beautiful views, and the ambiance was cozy and peaceful. The meals were served as a pre-fixe with starter, entrée, and dessert options. That evening, I started with the muhammara. It was flavorful and served with crispy fried pita. I personally prefer a bit more heat, but the texture and seasoning were spot on. For my entrée, I chose the seared chicken breast--tender and well-seasoned, though the portion was more than I could finish. Dessert was a standout: the mascarpone torta cake was light, creamy, and absolutely incredible. I'd give it 10 stars if I could! The second night, I tried the cauliflower bisque, and wow--it was rich, creamy, and delicious. Easily my favorite dish of the night. My entrée was the pumpkin fregola, which was fine but didn't quite match the wow factor of the soup. We ended our trip with breakfast at the restaurant, which is served buffet-style. The spread was generous, with tons of options for all kinds of tastes. It was a perfect way to wrap up a wonderful weekend. Highly recommend dining here if you're staying at Mohonk--or even making a reservation if you're visiting the area. Beautiful setting, friendly staff, and memorable meals.
