Ridiculous system to skate. You have to wait in the same line to rent skatea as you do to just buy an access ticket. So if you have your own skates, it's a major pain and in my opinion not worth it. So many other great places to skate in Buffalo area read more

I really love what they've done with Canalside and it seems like my wife and I are spending more and more time down there every summer. I'm very much looking forward to seeing what they are going to have next year, and I'm sure we're going to partake in a good amount of it! read more

I have to say living in Buffalo, just gets better everyday. Especially going to places like this to enjoy a nice day out. There is so much going on for this place, and I see it getting even better. If you want to see Buffalo's cityscape, come on down and experience the nice breeze while walking, or on the water boating. read more

Our trip to Canalside was really cool. There is so much to see and do for those of all ages. During the spring and summer there are board game interaction with others and concerts. There is also old battle marine ships and submarines as an attraction available to visit for a small fee. Kayaking and a short ferry ride is an option. Even if you go to walk around this place will not disappoint. My favorite about the visit are the memorial walls of those that were killed or wounded during different wars. Very nice tribute to those that gave their lives for our freedom. read more

Easy in and out parking for Kenny Wayne Shepherd concert. Found a nice shady location to set up the chairs. Band jammed. Couldn't believe the quick exit afterwards. Cleared out within 30 minutes completely and had no problems driving back to Dunkirk. Food trucks had many offerings of food and beverage. GNO read more

Canal side at the original west end of the Erie Canal is a nice little waterside park with an amphitheater concert venue, children's playground, a smallish Artisan fair (at times), a military museum (again smallish), retired naval vessels at moorings and a tavern/restaurant in a refurbished federalist building. A nice little walkable area which is very enjoyable on a moderately warm summer day. Lots of restroom facilities located about the area. Each little area itself seemed disappointingly small, but all located together, it had plenty to do. A nice re-use of the old 'Commercial Waterway' with a smattering of historical message boards. read more

I mean, what's there to say about Canalside? What Buffalonian isn't thrilled with the changes here in the last 10 years, or even the last 5?! It's such a great place to come in the nice weather, so much to do, so much to see. The only complaint I have is the parking on busy days. It can be a little confusing, but there's usually places to park over on the North end near the Hatch. Plus that gives you a chance to walk past the military memorials and ships. Oh! Also, if they could make a bridge over the canal, at the back end of Liberty Hound that would be great. Not that it's a long walk around the museum, over the bridge, but a straight shot would be cool too. That's just me looking for some constructive criticism. Seriously, what a great addition to our city. read more

There is so much to do at Canalside which is next to the First Niagara Center and the currently under construction Harbor Center and Historic Canal site. They have free games you can sign out, from board games to ping pong, foosball, pool, and more. You can sit in an Adirondack chair and relax and enjoy the weather. There are several different boat tours you can take, or visit the Navel Museum ships and submarine. They host artisans markets, beerfests, concerts, yoga and just about anything you can think of. Buffalo has come a long way and there is much more planned for this area in the next year. I highly recommend you check out what going on at Canal side. I enjoyed it and my 10 year old daughter and her cousin had fun as well. read more

I am talking specifically about the Tim Horton's at Canalside on this review. Arrived on a quiet gorgeous Sunday afternoon. Asked pouty worker if the place was working out ok. She said, "it's ok I guess." There were 7 in our group. They took orders for 4 people and prepared them. The other 3 in the party had to ASK if they could order something. Pouty girl said , "oh. Yeah. ". By the time all 7 got their (very simple) orders, people 1-4 in our party were almost done with their drinks. Despite restaurant being almost empty when we came in, most of the tables were cluttered and dirty. C'mon, Tim's! You are part of the Buffalo Renaissance and you MUST DO BETTER! We have tourists coming to Canalside and we need to make a great impression to keep them coming back!! read more

We went to the carnival that was held for Memorial Day on both Sunday and Monday. Looked like a really fun time for the kids! I enjoyed the music and food! we also rented kayaks for an hour and had a blast seeing a lot of the city from the water. Definitely a fun activity for the summer! I'm going to go again! read more

Canalside is at the heart of the Buffalo Renaissance. The amount of free and public activities going on is simply amazing. It's great Buffalo is reviving at a time when builders, the government, etc are putting people and the public first, which makes for a great venue such as this. A mix of private and public events that bring in people from all of WNY and Canada. The holiday tree lighting ceremony and ice skating in the winter really makes you feel you at a community hot spot. It feels like a big town's public square. The prices are good, the people are kind, and the atmosphere is tremendous. read more

Yes, just yes. Buffalo is finally doing something right on the waterfront. A beautiful shared urban space with lots of good goin' on. I've been for relaxation, drinking, meandering and viewing. I've now been for a concert (Weeeeeezer!) and the whole set-up enjoyable easy peasy breezy. Enjoy a show, step back and take a break on the water, no lines for beers, what a delight. Keep it up, Buffy. We can do this. We can make the waterfront an actual destination. Oh yes we can. read more

I don't know how to begin talking about how wonderful this area is! There was plenty for my family of 4 to do. We looked at naval ships and veteran memorials. We played giant lawn games. We saw belly dancers. Rode paddle and pedal boats. Sat next to "Shark Girl." Watched Zumba classes. Ate ice cream. Sat in chairs under a shade tree. Fed ducks. And even hunted Pokémon! The bathrooms were always nearby. The people were friendly. The boardwalk was clean. When it got darker we watched the lights projecting on the stacks across the canal. This place was perfect to spend a few hours outside! read more

I've been here several times and I'm so excited that buffalo finally decided to do something with the waterfront area. There's always tons to do and its all year round. They're always something going on including dancing demonstrations or exercising. Festivals and concerts. Lots of the things to do are free so there's no excuse not to come and check it out at least. Easy to get to also. read more

We liked going to Canalside to Ice skate over the Christmas holiday. It was a nice afternoon and our entire family had fun. And, although it was very crowded, we still managed to skate for a few hours. Cons of this awesome attraction would be the fact that the ice was heavily used so pretty bumpy; and when they used the Zamboni, the ice was closed for a good 30 mins. read more

I'm loving what they have done here so far. I know there's a little more that is in the horizon, but altogether the city has rally made a nice space out of this. I'm living all of the out door concerts and fitness activities for summer. I'd like to see more restaurants/shops, and defiantly more parking. I'd say it's a start though. read more

The ice skating was super fun and the rink is gorgeous! I went at a popular time, so the ice was chewed to Hades and therefore rough to skate on for the last 30 min of a period until it was cleaned up, but that is to be expected. I love the heated tent with cubbies and lockers so you can get your skates on and off in warmth, and thaw out if you need a break while skating. I didn't need any breaks though, could have skated there all night happily! read more

Awesome place for families, dates, and all of the above. They have some awesome ships from the Navy you can tour and some very beautiful monuments all throughout the area. I can't say much that hasn't already been said. I'm thrilled this came to be in our city and that everyone is embracing it.

So I know its winter but just saw a post on facebook reminding me about the Buffalo waterfront and our experience with Water Bikes of Buffalo. If you haven't seen them check them out as you can ride a bike on the water. They were located on the new boardwalk near the kids sand play area, staff was professional, bikes were clean and fast. We saw the naval ships from the water and waved at the folks down by the Hatch. My family was still talking about it over the holidays. Definitely will be going back next season! read more

I live in the suburbs of buffalo, and Canalside makes me wish I lived in the city. What they have done there is excellent. They even have a little stand where you can buy hot dogs. Mmmm. read more

I've been here twice this summer for concerts. One was the free Matt and Kim concert, and the other was Alternative Buffalo's Kerfuffle. They both had different set ups, but I really liked it and the layout of the venue. I'd probably visit this area a lot more if I actually lived in Buffalo. It's nice being able to look out onto the water, and when boats are drifting around, you can get some pretty neat photos. read more

Wow! This modern boardwalk is really nice. There were a ton of people walking around and lounging in the plentiful chairs and benches this warm sunday evening! What a beautiful day in Buffalo! I was lucky enough to have the day off and decided to go to the waterfront for lunch and a walk. Wow, i had a hot, fries, a couple ice cold beers and ice cream cone. I also got to people watch and see the Miss Buffalo, Spirit of Buffalo and Moon Dance take off with a couple hundred people enjoying a great day on lake Erie. If you haven't had the chance to enjoy it yourself, it is deffinately worth your time! Buffalo has done a very good job of making this space great for all. Stop by the Naval Park and pay tribute to our veterans while you are there, they play a big role in all of our lives! read more

So many things to do from Zumba to soccer shots and all the way to hula hoops! Looks really good and a great place to go.

Finally a "great" hot dog at Canalside. Ted's was at the World Cup event this afternoon. Thank you Ted's and whoever organized this event. You will never know how wonderful it was to see families, kids, bikes, and finally, finally a GREAT hot dog. read more

This is one of my favorite venues for concerts. There really is nothing better than enjoying summer in Buffalo, listening to some great tunes, right on the water. There is plenty of room to wander around. I love that there are brightly colored adirondack chairs for people to sit in! There is good spacing with the beverage tents, food tents and bathrooms. The sound is always great here. I just really have no complaints about coming here for live music. I know they have events and activities all day here, but I've really only come for concerts, so I can't comment on the rest. read more

Cool boats, free concerts, and some restaurants. Buffalo is a spot to check out.

Tried to get a gift certificate from Ice Bikes of Buffalo but for the Paddle Boats in summer. The website says $10/person and the owners hand wrote on their advertisement a higher price which you only see when you go downtown to get it. I brought the exact amount of cash and had to walk away because I didn't have additional money. This is false advertisement, bad business, and clearly an opportunity to rake in more money during the holidays. Very shady. read more

Horrible experience with docking...no one around to check in with for the night when we arrived at 4 pm...then security guard woke us on our boat at 1am(!) to tell us we needed to leave immediately because we were not registered. In the middle of the night! In the fog! And the place was almost empty! Horrible system they have, every other marina we've stayed at across the country just has you check-in in the morning if you arrive after the attendant goes home. Didn't get much sleep last night, to say the least...figure out a better system Canalside read more

Last year we came to Canalside to skate. It was glorious to see Buffalo like this. We waited in a long line and bought a $20 season pass at the window. Easy. But there was no place for guardians to stay warm while they watched their children. The space heaters were rendered useless in the cold wind. This year we were told there was a warm room. !!!! I'm currently sitting in the warm room. It is no warmer than the outside temp. You're out of the wind. No chairs face the ice. Tall pub tables and a few benches facing into an ugly room. When you walk in you're not sure what this room is for. Very disappointing. And prepare to pay more this year! It is now $36 for a seasons pass and you cannot buy it here at the window. You have to buy it on line and you get charged a $7.78 service fee. Thanks Buffalo. read more
