There are not that many Japanese maple trees or maybe we were just too late in May. We went May 16 to see the full bloom, however, there were still some trees in bloom and it was very pretty and it smelled good. The area is well kept where the garden is but when you venture off into one side, it's a dark tunnel with spray paint all over. People were still running through it so I'm assuming it's a safe area. it's across the street from an art museum and the Japanese garden is a part of another history museum. Overall, I would say go because it is a pretty area with free parking, just missing a star because I thought it was going to be much larger with more history.

The only problem with the pavilion we had today was there was no electricity inside. There was a big grill to use, which was very nice, but unfortunately, no electrical sockets. It's a nice atmosphere here, there are restrooms around, actual restrooms, not a Johnny on the spot. It was nice here, cozy, and spacious.

Going over the rickety bridge is quite the adventure. Lots of times in Sundays you'll see small ethnic celebrations going on. It's definitely one of the quieter parks around. The trail leads you down the shore up to Broderick. I highly recommend riding your bike over the turning bridge and to the other side and heading out the Broderick side with the draw bridge

Today it was crowded, the Blue Angel squadron was at the outer harbor so it was a great view from here.. on a hot day, the breeze was everything! The ice cream/ snack shop serves Charlaps and is clean and very new looking! I didn't get any ice cream but it sure looked good as it walked past us in the hands of children of all ages! There's a good size playground with the following: - a separate high swirl slide - two climbing equipments - a tire swing - a set of swings to the side - a picnic area - a softball field - an area to play 4-square (never heard of this game but a family explained it to me and it looks like fun. You do need to bring a rubber playground ball - google shows Walmart sells one by Franklin sports for less than $5-) The park is very clean, and it turns it's because one of the neighborhood family keeps it that way. We saw a man walking around with a bag and trash picker collecting whatever litter he spotted - what an amazing guy! There's no public restroom in sight or porta potty. However, there is a playground supervision office that opens from 12-6pm from 6/27-8/12 so it might have a restroom. Maybe?

Or just the rest of the park. There's a bit of something for everyone. The only issue might be parking, which could be difficult at times since it's just like any city park area.
