The area is well kept where the garden is but when you venture off into one side, it's a dark tunnel with spray paint all over. People were still running through it so I'm assuming it's a safe area. it's across the street from an art museum and the Japanese garden is a part of another history museum. Overall, I would say go because it is a pretty area with free parking, just missing a star because I thought it was going to be much larger with more history.

If you are not aware the playground is located behind the zoo opposite of the zoo parking lot. It's a smaller playground but it is great for younger kids. It's usually pretty busy which is nice so the kids can make friends and interact with each other. For being such a large park I do wish the playground was a little bigger. There is plenty of space for a larger park. Just something for the park association to consider!

You do need to bring a rubber playground ball - google shows Walmart sells one by Franklin sports for less than $5-) The park is very clean, and it turns it's because one of the neighborhood family keeps it that way. We saw a man walking around with a bag and trash picker collecting whatever litter he spotted - what an amazing guy! There's no public restroom in sight or porta potty. However, there is a playground supervision office that opens from 12-6pm from 6/27-8/12 so it might have a restroom. Maybe?

Or just the rest of the park. There's a bit of something for everyone. The only issue might be parking, which could be difficult at times since it's just like any city park area. They took out lots of the trees, which is too bad from a shade flavors, but I think the trees were unhealthy, so probably needed. Park has seen better days, looks like a renovation of the facilities and pick up of trash is much needed. There is a nice pathway to walk, jog or roller blade. Baseball diamonds were not in use. I'd come back if I the neighborhood again. Some folks walking their dogs who live nearby. I should add: one of the Highlights to coming to this park is strolling down Hertel and enjoying a variety of eateries and unique businesses. After this visit to the park, I enjoyed a bowl of delicious ice cream from Lake Effect! Always a treat!
