It was a moderately challenging (meaning some extended periods of walking uphill) and about a 3-1/2 to 4 mile hike. The day we went it was not buggy but we did encounter some muddy areas. Great place to hike come fall when the leaves will be changing.

First off, I feel like the walking trails here are nice. More markers would be cool, but I like the ease of the trails. They have a dog park too which is great. I can't wait to come back with my pup before the snow and have her run around too. Everything is very open which makes it even more awe-inspiring and beautiful on a summer day. I also love all of the old architecture here too with the old stables, main house, etc. It really feels like a different place when you step foot on property. LIke being transported through time almost. The music festival was awesome here. I think the lay of the land, the older buildings, and the beauty of the park really amplify the event and make it feel even better than other possible locations in the area. I will definitely be back to visit the park, and back for the music festival.

I can't believe I've never been to this park before because my husband is from Derby. I was shocked…read moreby how big the park ended up being and how many trails there were. I had originally planned on just doing a quick lunch walk to do some bird watching but when I got there I quickly realized I'd be there longer than expected because there were so many rarer birds I had never seen and the place was so beautiful! The trail along the gorge rim was really gorgeous. Pun intended Some of the other trails inside of the woods were pretty muddy and a bit hard to follow because of the leaves, but using the alltrails app helped a lot. All of the trials were well marked too, which I really appreciated. It does seem like this place needs a bit more upkeep, but for the most part it's a really great park to walk at and it's dog friendly. All of the trails are pretty moderate and not too strenuous.

The bathrooms were very clean. If you plan on walking down Buffalo Creek and getting in the water - word of caution wear crocs or water shoes because the green moss will make you slip - also someone in our party got a leach on their foot and the kids said there were a ton near the mini falls so beware.

(We didn't realize that, while trying to find the place.) The path is about a mile. The park is well-maintained and there are three or four gazebos of varying size, if you'd like to have a picnic. There is a nice waterfall area that some people were swimming in. On the way back to the car, on the other end of the path, I noticed many beautiful birdhouses in the trees.

Unless you're looking for it, you'll miss the entrance to Hobuck Flats. It's a winding dead end…read moreroad that weaves down to the stream below. When you get there and find a parking spot, you're greeted with a rustic, barely beaten hiking trail path, a miniature trestle bridge, and a fairly spectacular waterfall! As stated, the path is rustic... as in take your hiking shoes and watch your step! The path is just a trodden walkway through the foliage; you're surrounded by green! The stream is of a decent size and makes an enjoyable view as you walk the path. It's a fisherman friendly stream as well. The fishermen there were hoping to catch trout or bass and camped out along the banks near the bridge. If you have a rod and reel handy, you can try your luck out too! You might even get a chance like we did to see a bald eagle fly overhead! Just stay close to the path though. We spotted clumps of poison ivy edging towards the trail in more than one location.
