Clean, small community park, located in heart of Amherst, behind the Amherst police station…read more Recently visited for a fire fly hike that was guided, by the NYS Parks Department; Catol Rodgers. Interesting facts learned on fireflies: they like leafy dark areas, eat slugs, and snails and really lite up the park. Paved trail, not very long, perfect for quick walk or hike to explore the many trees. Family, everyone friendly.

This is such a beautiful park to enjoy a nice walk, jog, a bike ride or to go fishing (no spots to play sports of any kind here). There are a couple small grassy areas you can sit with a blanket and have a small picnic, eat lunch or bring your own lawn chair and enjoy a book. Plenty of benches to sit down, relax and enjoy the view of the water. In addition, the trees provide lots of shaded areas to appreciate as you walk through the paved trail on a hot summer day. Lastly, there are a lot of droppings from the geese (the children were stressing about avoiding it). I didn't see a playground during my walk but there is a very nice playground available for the children in front of the library that is located adjacent to the park entrance - you'll see it. I used my GPS to get here and parked at the courthouse parking lot, there was a path to where the trail starts - in my photos. Bring bug spray and sunblock in the summer and enjoy a stroll after a good meal. Rated this park four stars because I would probably only come back to take a walk if I'm already in the area but there's nothing here you absolutely have to see if you were visiting Buffalo. However, the park is beautiful and serene. If there was more to do or picnic tables for families to sit and eat, I would give it five stars.

This is a nice little spot to enjoy a bit of nature and a notable geological feature. Emphasis on…read morethe "little" -- if you're looking for a long hike, this isn't the spot. But if you want to escape to the escarpment for a short trek around a pond and through a hilly, wooded area, by all means stop by! This is just down the road from us, so worth a quick trip. If we had to go too far out of the way, it's be a tough sell. But if you're in the area, it's worth seeing. Parking is right near the entrance, very convenient access. If you venture into the wooded area, wear shoes or boots and long pants. There was a bunch of poison ivy covering the ground alongside the escarpment itself, which wasn't grown too high, but if you had sandals or shorts on it could be bad news. There is a little grass straightaway that leads to the decked areas which overlook the pond. It's stagnant, scummy water, but still pretty in its own way. Lots of cattails, green ash, and black walnut trees which shed their green walnuts onto the path. They have a pleasant scent (to me), but are toxic to animals so be careful if you bring a pet. We didn't bring our dog - not sure if they're allowed, but it's such a short walk it wouldn't even be much exercise. Bottom line: this is a nearby option to get a nice, if limited, dose of nature, but it isn't large enough to be conducive to hiking. Take your time taking in the surroundings, but don't plan to be here more than 45 minutes to an hour, tops. Closed at dusk b

There's a small pound that isn't the cleanest, a small grassy trail and wooden bridges to walk over to check out the escarpment or wildlife. The escarpment is pretty to look at, but I would recommend to check out other nature trails or areas within Clarence.

After having some ice cream, we went for a quick walk throughout the park. This park really is great. It is a little small but that also makes it so nice. No need for maps or worries of getting lost, it's perfect for a nice walk. My son loves looking for all the wildlife especially if there are any ducks or fish. Luckily for him, there are plenty of ducks around here. Another nice thing about this park is that it is very scenic for photography. There were a few different groups there doing what looked like senior pictures or photos before an event. Whether you're looking for a nice walk, scenic backdrop or just a quiet place to sit on a bench and think, this park has it all.

I am amazed at how restful and beautifully maintained it is. The flowers were welcoming, the small waterfall enchanting, the trails curious and winding, and the wildlife amusing. I felt more relaxed and grounded after my visit than I have in a long time. The only negative was that someone was smoking weed on a park bench and the odor instantly turned me off. I'm sure smoking is not allowed, but I was chagrined that in this little section of The Garden of Eden someone would assume to make the place smell like a stoner's living room.

When we pulled in and saw a mostly full parking lot we got a bit concerned, but as soon as you're 5 minutes into the woods there's more open space and options than anywhere else I've been in the area. Based on my knowledge, the type of "hike" is most similar to what you'd find at Chestnut Ridge/Eternal Flame, but a bit less maintained/more natural. The atmosphere reminded me a lot of hiking and camping adventures in the southern tier. Some areas of the trails have a decent amount of gravel, but mostly it's just a woodsy trail with many branching paths. The areas between trails are relatively cleared out too so you can choose to do trails or just walk through the woods. There's lots of elevation change and ravines, depending on where you choose to walk, so that keeps things interesting (though a little tricky in areas that are both steep and muddy). The giant creek down at the bottom is beautiful, can definitely wade a bit and explore all the little pools. Definitely family friendly with all of the trail options, and our dog was really happy to walk through the woods with us. We only spent about an hour and a half to get home in time for dinner, but now that I have a better idea of the scope of things I'm excited to go back for a whole day and do lots of woodsy exploring throughout the park. I also can't wait to visit during the different seasons to see how the scenery changes, I'm sure it'll be gorgeous and lush in a month or two!

It was a moderately challenging (meaning some extended periods of walking uphill) and about a 3-1/2 to 4 mile hike. The day we went it was not buggy but we did encounter some muddy areas. Great place to hike come fall when the leaves will be changing.
