Sprague Brook is a well maintained park that is ideal for: - camping for families - mountain biking - hiking - fishing - winter activities such as cross country skiing, snowshoeing, etc Much of the park is geared towards camping, but there is also a veterans remembrance area with some benches under trees, memorials, and a scenic pond, and then there are trails in the woods. The veterans area is mowed and would be a nice spot to setup a picnic. You'll also see people fishing in the pond over here. The trails are maintained for mountain bikers, which you'll see many of, but hikers can also use. Nothing crazy, but a lot of repetitive slight up and down, up and down, but not steep. If you're just going for a few hours, check out the memorial area, then head back towards the entrance, pass it, then turn right down the unpaved road before entering the "improved camping area", then park by the warm up house. There is a trail entrance there. It may depend on how far you want to hike, but nothing was incredibly scenic on our hike (from warm up house to pallet bridge). Would come back for a picnic, or walk another trail, but there are more scenic trails in WNY than this one.

I feel like I should've researched this before I actually went. I couldn't find the trails it's more of a campground. Although nature holds its beauty.

I love this park, I camp here every year with my family during the weekend of Ellicottville's fall fest. It is my absolute favorite car ride of the year, once you get off the 219 or 400 and head your way to Sprague Brook all of the leaves that line the country roads and hills are changing before your eyes. This is a nice place to camp if you want to partake in the fall fest festivities but want to avoid the high cost and craziness of staying right in Ellicottville. The park is very relaxed and low key, you don't feel like you need to give up a kidney to check into your campsite like other parks. We were able to set up a tent on our camper site, and had extra vehicles and nobody bothered us about it. In fact you can usually just drive right to your site without stopping anyway. The park doesn't have as many hiking trails as some of the bigger parks in our area or as many recreational spots but it is one of my favorites if you just want to go to relax. The park is great for families though. It has a playground, fishing pond, tennis courts, baseball diamonds etc. They have both electric and non-electric sites, we opt for electric and have never had any issues. In the winter you can go snowmobiliing, cross country skiing, snow shoeing, sledding etc. I'm a fan and will keep coming back!

This is a great park. It seems small, but it's actually really big. Especially if you do the whole trail in the back of Sprague Brook. This park is good for anything outdoors, hiking, biking, fishing, camping, swimming, running, parties, sledding, snowshoeing, x country skiing, etc.. I am very glad we have something like this so close. It's not Yellowstone or Yosemite, but it's nice for what we have.

This park has camping as well, and they're nice campsites with actual privacy.

In honor of hiking on The Weekly Yelp Buffalo, here's another one for all of your beautiful hearts…read more The Erie County Forestry Bureau cannot be put into words how stunningly gorgeous it really is. It's off of the 219 in East Concord, take the Genesee Road exit and the park is literally right on that same road about ten miles down. You will pass the Sugar Mill on your left and the specific trail that I took was on the right hand side. At sunrise, there was no one there and when we left around 10:30, there still was no one there. Except people mowing the grass... Anywhooo. The trail starts in a small hut, you cross a bridge, and then you're off. The first thing you should note is the looming trees and vast foliage. The trail is small but the trees loom tall over you. It really puts things in perspective for the hiker... you're small in comparison to the nature around you. Also, fun bonus, squirrels and wildlife were eating the acorns from the trees and dropping them near us (maybe throwing them at us? Only *they* know). The trail is several miles so you really need to dedicate a full morning to this trail. Especially since the main problem here is that the trail ends up being unmarked for small portions so you're likely to get lost, just a heads up. Don't let that deter you though because some of the best parts of the hike were the unmarked spots. Unmarked location one) We ended up near a flowing creek where you could hear nothing but the waters, your own wavering breath, and the birds overhead. There's nothing more I love than those combination of sounds to form tranquility. Breathe in, exhale, release. Unmarked location two) At sunrise we were already deep into the forest and stumbled upon an open field. Now here's the cool part about the open field: looking straight into the field gives you a simple perspective. Open field, light, awesome. But when you turn your head slightly to catch the light from a different angle, there were HUNDREDS of spider webs formed on different leaves with spiders inching up the webs. You're probably thinking "Oh my god, spiders..." but it was such an incredible thing to witness. And you could only see them if you changed your perspective slightly... I can't wait to come back here! This was only one trail, but there were some on the other side of the road as well (near the Sugar Mill). The Forestry Bureau seems like a huge expanse of land, made up of intertwining trails that lead you everywhere and nowhere. If you're looking for a bit of a break from the chaos in life, a prescription of a hike might be in order! Try this trail and experience the beauty of nature for yourself.
