I can't believe it took me this long to visit this park. The Yelp reviews and pictures just don't do it justice. It is huge. We barely scratched the surface of what's available today. There's many shelters available to rent that are spread throughout this expansive park. In that way, it reminds me of Akron Falls State Park. So many playgrounds, too. We visited a couple, but I think there were several more. Originally I planned to take my boys to play in the creek at Charles E Burchfield Nature Center, but I noticed pictures of people playing in a creek here, too, and I'm glad we came. We did have a hard time finding a clear path to the water where we first noticed people, but there's a stone staircase leading down near shelter 21 and the playground with the dinosaur slide. So many tadpoles. Later we found another place to access the creek from a nature trail. As another review mentions, the trail is narrow, but only at the beginning. It widens later on. There's a fun little bridge the boys liked crossing, and a great spot for a picnic near the creek. You'd have to bring your own folding table but it's a relatively flat area in a grove of trees. If you like the trails and creek at Charles E. Burchfield, but you need to rent a shelter, this park is perfect. read more

Como Lake Park - Walking in the winter - Parks Near Me - Lancaster, New York

It's a large, beautiful park with 50+ shelters to rent for private parties. There is even a huge shelter that fits over 200 people if you want to have a wedding there or something crazy. They have an indoor casino (not the gambling kind) that you can rent and plenty of outdoor space. The restrooms are pretty far apart from eachother so I would recommend scoping it all out before you book one. My only complaint about this park is that there aren't a ton of sports facilities. There is a tennis court and a basketball court. But no soccer field? Or baseball? There is so much wasted space that could be used for these activities. The very best part of the entire park is the dog park though!! read more

Great park in general but I'd like to highlight the pickleball courts. They have 6 well kept courts I'm the back of the park. While it can get busy, the atmosphere is great. Awesome addition to the park. read more

This is a really great park. I came here yesterday with friends to finish a 1,000K virtual race. I was here for a friend's daughter's 1st birthday party and for many 5K races. There are many shelters where you can rent to gather. There are many playgrounds too. One of them had a sign stating that it wasn't sanitized. My friends and I parked at Lancaster Place. It's near the Como Park entrance. There is a spot there where you can charge an electric car. I thought that was pretty neat. There are many bathrooms here. There is a hill to sled down in the winter. There is a frolf course. There is also a small waterfall. We noticed many dog walkers and a sign stating that they were going to be turning part of the park into a dog park. I like the paved roads and how the roads wind. It's nice for walking and running. Besides the park itself, there is a full 18-hold disc golf course located here. Played this course for the first time last weekend. Course is well maintained and there were ample signs so you could pretty easily find your way around if you were alone or didn't know the layout. I was happy to see that, unlike some other courses I've been to (Beaver Island & Chestnut Ridge come to mind) there was very little debris laying around from bottles/cans/food packaging. So either people who visit the park are more polite than those other parks or someone has been keeping this place cleaner. Made for a more pleasant experience for sure. It was a hot, sunny day but there were spots of shade along the course which was nice. A few water hazards and I did lose a disc in one, though I made it over the lake no problem. The only reason I'm not giving this course 5 stars is because it seems like you're backtracking a lot while walking. For instance, you play holes 1-8 and then double back all the way to hole 1 to tee off at 8. And you double back a couple more times along the way. I just feel like there could have been a better way to set the course up to avoid all that, but I'm not complaining about getting some extra steps in. read more

Beautiful park with so many trails to walk. Tons of parking and shelters for events. We really just enjoyed all the walking trails available. During our visit the kids saw snow for the first time and this was the perfect place to visit. Most of the boardwalks were snowed over. But I can see how beautiful the park would look once all the snow melts. So many chirping birds and serenity as the snow fell. It was a great space to jump in snow and run around without allot of traffic. read more

I am living with a Chronic Disability which makes walking distance difficult. I got a portable wheelchair and this is the first place we went! I was so excited! The paths are very disabled accessible. We sat on a bench and simply enjoyed the fresh air and met a few people who said hello. Lovely summer day. read more

Lancaster Place was accommodating, and the check-in staff was friendly and courteous.

We love this park and would come here more often if we lived closer to it. There is a lighthouse, a few playgrounds, tennis courts, a lot of room to walk, and abundant parking. There are also a lot of covered patios which can be rented out. Besides the occasional inconsiderate drives who speed through the park, this is a great place to take your kids and your pets. read more

Nice park! Hidden away little gem. You can easily drive by and never know it exists, but once you are inside you will be greeted by a dozen or so little shelters with grills and some pretty relaxing natural atmosphere. This was a nice visit to a park I had never even visited until recently. The park has a large disc golf course and loads of tables and shelters for a picnic or party. I think they need to be reserved in advance though to be sure you have a space. The park doesn't have what I would consider to be hiking trails? But the trees and natural places are beautiful. During the summer the creek is pretty dry, but I'm sure it's fun to watch during the spring and fall. This park also has a nice sledding hill! Something I'll be sure to try come winter time. The park is a lot bigger than it looks too. I spent about an hour walking around and still had more area I could have explored. read more

Fantastic disc course! It's not easy, but that's what makes it good. They've touched up and relaid the concrete on some of the pads, it's pretty well manicured, and the distance is definitely there. It's not a good course for a beginner or a weak thrower, like myself. There are a few baskets that have some pretty serious water traps. If there wasn't a kid already swimming in the creek looking for his lost disc, we would have lost 2 that day. Yeah. Swimming in the creek looking for lost discs. That's the kind of course this is. As a park, it's nice too. There are playgrounds, swings, picnic areas, and plenty of room to run around. I do wish they might install an actual dog park section. Since some kids are scared of dogs, and since most dogs love to chase things (such as golf discs), it would be nice to let dog owners and their canine's have their own area where they could run off the leash and not hinder disc games or upset small children (I get it, dogs are friendly! That doesn't stop small children--or even other adults--from genuinely having fears of large dogs. I know it's weird, I don't get it either, but try to be respectful, not everyone assumes your dog is as friendly as Doug from Up). So yeah! Really good course! Maybe too good... read more

This is my first full summer in Buffalo since 2005, and I'm currently going through a "discover every park in Western New York" phase. Sporadic employment leads to idle time, which leads to meeting my boyfriend for lunch in Depew and mapping out all the nearby parks. Previously unfamiliar with the area, I've recently started climbing up the ladder to expert status on parks in the Depew/Lancaster/Cheektowaga area. So what have I discovered, other than the fact that I need new hobbies? Como Lake Park in Lancaster is hands-down the best park around that area. It's named after Como Lake, a tourist resort in Northern Italy, and it's huuuge (totally, in the Fuccillo way). It's a little oasis in the middle of the suburbs, where you can forget where you are for a minute. There's a really nice lighthouse by the lake, and there are plenty of picnic tables and tons of space to go on a nice walk or bike ride. You may even walk into a history lesson. I love it. read more

Have some friends whose backyard meets up to Como Lake Park. When the water level was high, we went kayaking in there and it was awesome! It is hard to believe that that park was actually very big. When on land you can have picnics, frolf, or go on a nice walk. The sled hill is great for the winter time. When frolfing, you can lose your disc in the water, so beware. read more

Being a resident of Lancaster most of my life, my spare time would usually allow me a memorable visit to como lake park! Unchanged over the years, this place is perfect for family reunions, grilling, running, dog walks. Police on horseback is rare but a sight to see! Trails are clean and maintained properly. Basketball courts, tennis courts, a massive soccer field, ice skating in the winter, sledding hill, swings. Como Park has it all!! All year round you can come here and have a good time! Obviously it closes at dusk so trespassers beware, cops patrol this area frequently. During the fall months you see quite a few deer and other animals. I'm not kidding, herds of deer! read more

I walk my dogs in the park on occasion. The pond was drained and has been left to become an overgrown disgusting mess. I miss the water and the ducks which was the only outstanding feature in the park. read more

There were fish and a pond in the past but I don't think there is so much of that anymore. The lake used to get backed up you could actually go fishing in the lake near the waterfall and lighthouse. The park has improved over the last couple of years, there was a rough winter that took some time to recover from. Shelters have new shingled roofs and the park generally looks to be in nice shape. It looks like a place to drop in a canoe or kayak but they never really advertised the location as a place to put in a kayak or canoe, may not be allowed to small of an area. Get out there and enjoy the nice park while you have the time before the weather breaks for fall and winter. read more

Unless you're into disc golf or having a gathering under a pavilion, this location is very lackluster for much else. The walking paths are just a few inches wide, all dirt or mud in the wetter seasons, and zero signage. There are some picturesque bridges along the walk, but that's about it. It's sad so many parks in Lancaster don't allow dogs and then places like this ends up being unenjoyable. We ended up just walking along the pavement for something to do since we drove out here from Buffalo. Perhaps biking the area would be better than walking. I recently moved and it's been tough to find a dog-friendly park near me. I went to 3 parks and was greeted with huge "no dogs" signs. Finally found this lovely dog-friendly park. Great place to walk your dog. It's spacious with well-maintained walking trails. There was a nice looking disc golf course. Also a lighthouse which I found pretty neat. There are shelters here that have charcoal grills. Would be a fun place to bring some food and spend the day with friends. We'll be going back often! read more

Excellent location in the heart of Lancaster. To bad the town doesn't take this over. Looks very run down. Few updates. A roadway that is in desperate need of a paving Job. Grass that is mowed once a month. Grass is very high right now ! No baseball fields. No paved trails. Please update this wooded suburb park! read more

Been in Lancaster my whole life and never have I seen Como Park in worse shape. It is a real shame to because the large park with mature trees is a great place to walk, bike or picnic. The amount of large potholes is unacceptable. There are no useable baseball diamonds also. It just needs some tlc really. But I guess that is to much to ask of Erie County. Maybe Lancaster should take it over. read more
