So this park has had a bunch of changes. They have redone the baseball fields and put some more stuff in the playground area. They took out lots of the trees, which is too bad from a shade flavors, but I think the trees were unhealthy, so probably needed. The little league baseball is back, and there weren't as many masks or as much social distancing as I would have preferred. But hopefully everyone is vaccinated. Update 122 2021 read more

Neighborhood park off Hertel in North Buffalo. Very lively on a spring day like today 4/6/21. Lots of kids playing and swinging, strollers strolling, basketballs hooping! Park has seen better days, looks like a renovation of the facilities and pick up of trash is much needed. There is a nice pathway to walk, jog or roller blade. Baseball diamonds were not in use. I'd come back if I the neighborhood again. Some folks walking their dogs who live nearby. I should add: one of the Highlights to coming to this park is strolling down Hertel and enjoying a variety of eateries and unique businesses. After this visit to the park, I enjoyed a bowl of delicious ice cream from Lake Effect! Always a treat! read more

The best part of this park is the location. While it's a few streets down from the main part of Hertel Avenue, it's pretty close to Lake Effect ice cream, and those two things can for a pretty solid afternoon with kids. I always mean to come here when we're in the area but only got around to it today. There's a couple of playgrounds for kids, and a big swing set. Some of the equipment has seen better days. On the other hand, there's basketball courts and a big baseball field...as well as this smaller enclosed court. Not sure if it's multi-use or specifically intended for whatever game people were playing using mallets. Looked like slo-mo polo on bikes instead of horses. Apparently there's also a pool and places to grill, but I didn't see those. For a supposedly "small" park, it feels pretty big. Maybe not compared to Delaware Park or Como Lake Park, but those are really big. Plenty of parking and places to sit. read more

I love this park,mostly for sentimental reasons though. I lived across the street from here when I was little, up to 16, then I moved diagonally across the street, then again, diagonally, then it was pretty much my backyard til I was 47 years old. Then my kids played baseball here. For kids today, who don't know what a REAL playground is like, I'm sure this is fine, but it pretty much blows chunks compared to when I was young. This park rocked !!! Now it's mostly just good for baseball games. The benches are all falling apart, The swings are too short, There's not enough to do here these days, but, I Freaking love this park. This was my : childhood playground, teenage party place, A mommy's baseball game place to be, And now, a place to just sit & chill or watch other kids' baseball game. This will always be my home away from home. The concession stand had a big variety of candy, chips, drinks, Freezie pops, donuts,nachos, hot dogs, burgers, sausage, etc... on the grill & sometimes pizza . read more

I'll probably update this review later, as I only use Shoshone Park as part of a larger walk at night, and some of the maintenance issues may be a result of usual winter neglect and COVID. The park is conveniently located and provides some welcome green space on Hertel Ave. I like to walk there at night, and the park does have a nice walking loop. It's poorly lit in places and there are occasionally kids smoking dope. That doesn't bother me much, but you may wish to exercise caution. Otherwise, the park is crammed full of baseball fields for various ages and skill levels (the fences are placed differently), a basketball court, a children's play area, and, I understand, a pool in summer. There's a fairly large parking lot off the Hertel entrance. I imagine that the park bustles on summer afternoons. There's a good bit of litter there right now and some basic maintenance to be done, but even in its current state, it's not a bad place to take a winter stroll. If I had a direct line to the city, I'd tell them that the place practically screams for an outdoor ice rink, but maybe that's just me. read more

Shoeshine Park is the #1 destination in Buffalo to get your shoes shined. I think. I may have heard it wrong. Okay, never mind. I was here with someone very special, sometime last year. We sat and we talked while the kids played baseball. It was a lovely afternoon, basking in sunlight and sitting on the bleachers, Taylor Swift style. It's a very multi-cultural park, with kids from all backgrounds and income levels mingling together and kicking each others' asses, and college students from nearby UB South as well. It's a wonderful part of Hertel Ave. It's not the cleanest park, nor the largest, so I'll give it a very solid 4. Speaking of solid... you should feel my... Shoes. My time in Shoshone Park (pronounced show-shown, for those of you who are not native, like me,) has mostly been early in the mornings and sometimes the evenings, so YMMV. It's a decent neighborhood park, with a lot of stuff packed into a somewhat small space. Tehre are at least 2-3 baseball fields, a basketball court, and a swimming pool. There's a large playground as well. There is a nice walking path through the park, with a cut-through to the Metro parking lot and access to Main Street. There are also charcoal grills available as well as some picnic tables. It's a good place to integrate into a walking route, although there are spots that are less well-lit than I'd like at night. It could also use a bit more maintenance by the city, it's not completely shabby but often there is trash that needs to be picked up. I'm guessing on nice weekends this is a great place for a picnic. It's also a good place to walk a dog, although there's no off-leash area. read more

So I kind of don't want to write this review. Mainly because I don't think many people realize there is a free public pool here & I kinda want to keep it that way. I went today for the first time. I used to frequent the Mang pool But since I'm not a Ken-Ton resident anymore, you have to pay for it. Not so the city pools. All you have to do is sign in and swim. The Shoshone pool is large and clean. There were 3 life guards and a security guard on duty. There were maybe 6 other people there when I went around 1. But the pool is large enough that I didn't even notice them. The locker rooms leave a little to be desired. The lighting isn't great, and unless you want to undress in front of everyone, you have to squeeze yourself into one of the 2 teeny tiny bathroom stalls. The signs ask that you rinse off before going to the pool area, but the showers don't work. Bring your lock though, you're not allowed to take ANYTHING poolside, including your towel. read more

Shoshone Park is a free park on Hertel Avenue. There is a playground, basketball court, pool, picnic tables, and open space. There is currently a softball field. As of 2019 money was allocated to update the park like pool and field. The playground is safe, with swings and plenty of climbing for any age. There is room for improvement in a few ways like a need for updated clean bathroom facilities with changing tables year round and perhaps building a fence or barrier with gate for safety along the streets for smaller children because of high traffic from Main to Hertel (though there is plenty of room to run around safely). During the day preschools visit the park regularly. It's also a hot spot for teens, so don't be surprised to see them, too, hanging out on the swings and basketball court after school. Park is rarely full on weekdays and plenty of parking in the back. Needs better signage for parking for those who aren't familiar with the park which is at the end of a dead end street right before Main. My child's favorite playground equipment is a giant climbing caterpillar, but there is plenty to do in terms of a jungle gym, slides, and very well-maintained climbing equipment. Toddler-friendly, too. Families use the picnic tables on the weekends and during the summer. A fun park to visit for North Buffalo. Just needs the updated bathroom facilities for families to be a top-notch park. read more

i love this place it has so meny activitys its a great hange out spot but it is kinda durty but i love it so much

The one time I took my son to this park, we were on the swings for awhile. My son and I were discussing cops, and I was trying to make my son understand that cops like kids and they are his friends. This is going to sound made-up, but I swear that not even five minutes later the Buffalo Cops (At least 4 cars) came driving over the grass and surrounded the basketball area where tons of teenaged boys were playing basketball. The cops jumped out of their cars (Some with shotguns) with guns and ordered the boys to lay on the ground. Needless to say, my son was traumatized and we parents scattered with our children. I found out later that some of the boys playing basketball were seen with guns. I lived in the neighborhood at that time on Shoshone. We moved to Kenmore days after that. I did not want to be that close to a park where these things occur. I do understand that the cops did what they had to do, but I simply do not want to take my child to a park where armed teenagers are hanging out. read more
