UPDATE: the vet called us personally to follow up and talk about the care we received. She started by asking genuinely about our pet and talking through everything. Had we had the conversation that we just had the first time we were seen I would have given the clinic 3 stars. The medical judgement here is sound and Dr.Lee is clearly very caring and able to provide quality bedside care. The office as a whole remains disorganized (after the first review they had to call us multiple times to get the medications to the pharmacy) in every way but the billing. Original review- 1 star -- This place does not inspire confidence in their skills. The front desk staff is pretty useless, the vet was saw was smart but we didn't feel like she thoroughly explained all our options in the present and the long range view. The tech was the most helpful person we met. The whole office was clearly disorganized - people going into the wrong rooms, forgetting to give our dog the shot that they were planning before sending us off to return to the waiting room. They were clearly more focused on explaining the money then the care of my animal - or providing that care. If you need good vet services keep looking read more

I've been taking my cat "Mia" to Campus Vet since she was a kitten and I have no complaints. She had a lot of dietary issues when she was young (runny poo all over the house :-\ ) which they were unable to help me with but eventually I found some good food and she grew up a little so maybe there was nothing they could do. My only complaint is this: Mia seems to have a small cyst or something in her arm pit, about the size of a pin head. Last time I took her in I asked Dr. Yen to look at it which he did but I never really got an answer or advice about it. To be honest I didn't press him very hard and it was until I got home that I realized I had never really gotten an answer. He found it (quicker than I can), felt it, made some non-committal noises and moved on. I'm guessing it's nothing to worry about but he could work on his communication skills a little. read more

Love this place so much! All the staff are so gentle with my pets, from my scaredy cat to my 80 pound nervous nellie. We come for wellness and for illness/injury, and they always take brilliant care of my critters. They don't push unnecessary diagnostics or treatments, but give you the options and help you make an educated decision. I also love that they're not one of those clinics with a big retail business. No product pushing makes me feel like they always recommend what's best for my pets. Bonus points to Dr. Pierson: When my dog got a big open wound on her face, he was able to treat her without stitches or the cone of shame! read more

Dr. Berger spayed my elderly cat in 1982, and he and Dr. Ryan (who also had an elderly cat) saw to her care until Dr. Ryan left the practice and Dr Berger retired. Then Dr. Yen bought the practice. Nice folks. But it was never the same. Some of the other vets brought on staff there really rubbed me the wrong way. When it was time to get my cat put down, they were very nice and supportive and made a donation to UCD in her name. I don't like to say that the practice has changed in a negative fashion, but their prices went up considerably. And I had to quit taking my rescued cat there, after Dr. Yen wanted to charge me close to a $1k for x-rays and scoping for what ended up being a hairball blockage. We go to the Humane Society now. read more

Dr Pierson is very knowledgeable. He throughly explains all of your questions. He's patient - you don't feel rushed out of there like most doctor appointments. Staff is great. read more

Campus Veterinary Clinic - Veterinarians Near Me - Berkeley, California

Both Dr. Reid and Dr. Yen are wonderful vets. Dr. Reid has helped us with some difficult diagnostic issues (something stuck in the stomach of one dog - he eats everything, silly dog) and melanoma in our older dog. She takes the time to talk through all the issues with us very carefully and thoroughly. She is always responsive to our (many) questions. She is a terrific vet. Dr. Yen has a calming presence with our dogs. He is always willing to answer questions, and he really deeply cares about the animals. He was simply superb with our older dog who died three years ago. He came to our house for our dog's final moments, and he was extremely sensitive and professional - just what we needed during this horribly sad time. read more

We've had some bad luck with our cats lately so we've been to Campus Vet a lot. The staff and doctors are all super friendly, very helpful and have been so kind to all our pets. The prices are a little more than our old vet, but the awesome care makes it totally worth it. read more

We took our cat and our two bunnies here over the past last month. What a great clinic. Dr. Chen and Dr. Reed are very compassionate and knowledgeable about pet care. The front desk and clinic staff are friendly and helpful. Everyone is smiling and joking and making you feel comfortable. What a great place. Our kitty has some issues that we are working on clearing up. I know are pets are in good hands at Campus Veterinary Clinic. Thanks Campus Vet for your wonderful care! read more

A few years ago I found a mangy kitten in an alley. I brought her to Campus Vet because of a recommendation from a cat-experienced friend. Dr. Yen treated her for mites, worms, and all around manginess. Because he was professional and knowledgeable I continued to have her treated there -- for annual shots/check-ups and to get her spayed. There are cheaper options for services (some clinics) but I opted to pay a little more for the quality of service. Fast forward a couple of years. My cat is now gigantic, unruly, and has no tolerance for being examined (she's perfect). Prior to relocating to Southern CA, I took her in for her shots and a sedative to help with the long car trip. Dr. Reid was incredible (and cute!). She was patient with my long list of questions and with my cat who made multiple, genuine attempts at attacking her. Against all odds, Dr. Reid and an assistant were able to complete the exam. The sedative made the road trip tolerable for both of us. Now in Southern CA, and without a local vet yet, I recently had to treat my cat for worms. I was in a panic because local vets were telling me they would have to put her in a box and "gas her" to sedate her if she couldn't be examined - which I knew would be the case. LISA at Campus Vet was amazing and the reason for writing this review. Through multiple, panicked, calls she helped navigate a solution for me. She spoke with her Vet, reviewed my cats records, and even communicated with my local options. She did all of this knowing that Campus Vet would not be getting my return business as I had moved out of the area. Lisa sounded genuinely empathetic and found a solution that was best for my cat. I even offered to pay a fee for their time and they refused. That says it all! read more

Been coming here since college... it's not called campus vet without reason! He receptionists have always been super friendly and quick to answer, I have never had an issue making a last minute appointment. Maybe it's all vets, but I just don't get the part where it costs close to 100 bucks even if they only spend 5 minutes with your dog to tell you that nothing is wrong. Vets here are really nice even though my dog is intolerable when it comes to being "handled." You can tell they really like working with dogs and that they commiserate with any problem your pet might have. Def not changin vets as long as I'm in he east bay! read more

I am with Alison H. I have been taking my dog here for a few years (because its 3 blocks from my house) with mixed feelings as well. Now I see them for what they are - a business that cares more about making money then they care about pets. A few months ago I received a notice that my dog's "annual check-up" was due. Check up? She never had that before. She is totally fine and I didn't have $65 to shell out, so I ignored it. They kept sending me emails, texts, letters... ridiculous! Feb 1 I ordered my dog's usual prescription dog food which the vet has to o.k. Only to find out today he refused to refill it because we didn't come in for that expensive check-up. So, they are punishing my dog and denying her what she needs because they couldn't squeeze $65 out of me. Good riddance! I am hearing of other places that only charge $45 and don't demand a "check-up" and I'll take my business else where. read more

This is my first yelp review, written because Campus Vet absolutely deserves five stars. Dr. Hannahbess thoroughly answers any questions, goes above and beyond in coordinating care with other specialists, and is a wizard with cranky or shy pets. The whole staff is very kind and helpful, and they are open longer hours than many other vets. I now live closer to other vets, but I continue to go to Campus Vet because they are consistently excellent. read more

I couldn't imagine a better veterinary experience. Dr. Reid is phenomenal. Quite frankly I feel like my cat has a better doctor than I do. Our beloved Chunks is getting older and, like most cats, get extremely anxious when she has to leave the comfort of her home. Both times I've been to Campus Vet, Dr. Reid's bedside manner was absolutely magical, and her wealth of expertise made us feel like we found the right doctor for our precious cat. Office hours are flexible, and staff is friendly and helpful. I love this place! read more

I have yet to take my dog to see Dr. Pierson at his new location. My dog has been a patient of Dr. Pierson's since the day I got her about 4 yrs ago. Besides his professionalism, Dr. Pierson shows my dog the attention you would want from your own Dr. Dr. Pierson has always recommended ONLY the needed treatments and not added services for profit. He sees us immediately and before buying a business, was capable of seeing her last min, for maybe just a few minutes, if needed, even if just to ease my concerns regarding health issues she was experiencing. Please remember when reading these reviews that as our pets age (and us too), they deserve specialized attention from their medical-care providers to ensure a proper diagnosis and Dr. Pierson may be one of the last vets that believes in QUALITY over QUANTITY. There is a difference. So, if you are running late, it interferes into his time with another patient who was on time. Imagine if you were the person waiting that was on time!!!! I am grateful that there are educated, empathetic and professional veterinarians like Dr. Pierson around to treat my canine family member. He has saved our dogs more than once and I wouldn't trust anyone else with them. Thanks Dr. Pierson!!!!! read more

i wasn't exactly excited about the vet that saw the kittens, dr. yen. he didn't seem all that knowledgeable about a few seemingly simple questions i asked (what does it mean when the kittens play with a toy and after capturing it, s/he cutely growls - is this a 'back off' notice to other cats that are around? a 'this is mine' signal?), and he wasn't all that attentive to my inquiries. his assistant was more attentive/a more polite/better listener. that said, the receptionist was quite friendly, the waiting area seemed clean, we didn't have to wait long to be seen, and they accepted the exam certificates (coupons) from the sf humane society for the kittens' general checkups. read more

Your receptionist is incredibly catty and a little bit rude. She was not very helpful and seemed to be in a rush. I will go elsewhere.

The parking lot fits about 3 cars, so plan accordingly. The staff was really friendly, but honestly, I kind of miss my vet from Cincinnati, OH. read more

My normally indoor cat decided to go on an adventure and got injured during the night. He ended up with and abscess which is troubling for the uninitiated. The staff at Campus helped re-hydrate him, gave him meds and simple instructions for me and called to check up on him a few days later. Peace of mind. Not too pricey. Wonderful! read more

I've been taking my kitty to Campus Vet since 2010 and couldn't be more impressed. Always-friendly, attentive staff. Great Berkeley location off the main drag. Incredibly sharp, preventive diagnoses from their vets, particularly Dr. Reid, who I've had the pleasure of using each time. I've been to a few vets in my time, and this one strives to make the client comfortable more than anywhere. Living room-esque waiting room, reassuring staff and doctors, and they give the impression they honestly care about your animal, which is the most important thing. I live in Oakland, and I know there are closer vets to my apartment, but I won't stop using Campus Veterinary Clinic. I'd recommend it to anyone living in the East Bay. read more

I had a fantastic visit today with this clinic! I called in yesterday because my Border Collie presented an emergency case of what looks like salmon poisoning, which is incredibly rare in this area. I called in to ask if any of the vets had experience with it, and was scheduled with Dr. Reid. I was really glad to hear this after reading all of the fantastic reviews about her! Dr. Reid absolutely lived up to all of the great hype and was not only lovely, personable, genuinely caring about my pup, but she also understood that finances are tight and definitely worked with me. I didn't feel like anything that she charged was unnecessary or not completely thought through. They sent me home with fluids that I can administer for my pup on my own. I have nothing but great things to say about everyone from the receptionist to the vet techs! It was a really busy day, but everyone was still very friendly and I could tell that they were giving my pup genuinely good care. Thank you! read more

I love them all! Been going here for 10 years now and nothing compares. I have never seen anyone who's so dedicated with animal care. To Dr. Reid who i feel most comfortable with and to their new owner Dr. Pierson, amazing vet! I just found a new kitty and would want Dr. Pierson to take care of her, he gets the job done, very attentive to your concern, follows up with your pet and will not recommend anything else unnecessary. Shout out to all the techs for being so sweet with my pets. read more

Have been coming here for 4 years, and can happily confirm that I'm 100% happy with Campus Vet! The only reason why I stopped coming in is solely cause we decided to move to San Mateo (the drive across the bridge is just too much). Everyone in general is super attentive, and friendly. read more

I love this place. We've worked with each of the vets at different times and they have been absolutely excellent. One of our pets is a hospice dog and they have shown such care in love throughout the process of caring for her. So happy we found them. read more

This place is great. On the business side: early and late hours, 3 dedicated parking places in front of the building, and a comfortable waiting area. On the provider side: Dr. Reid and her clinical assistant moved intentionally, explained each step, and answered all questions. Last, this clinic offers appropriate pricing! Combining these factors results in going nowhere else! read more

I've been in this practice for 30 years (I.e three Golden Retrievers) and they are the best!

It's not easy finding a good vet. I have taken a couple of my cats into Campus Vet. I have had Dr. Reid and Dr. Bourque as my cats vet. I really, really like both vets. They are both very nice and caring people. Dr. Reid was very gentle with my cat (Felix) and she is very knowledgeable. I also really like Dr. Bourque he is very caring, friendly and funny. He is also very knowledgeable and goes out of his way for your pet. I would recommend either one of these vets to take great care of your pets. Paula C. :p read more

I have never written a review for anything else ever but I deemed necessary to make an effort just to save you a very disagreeable experience. I came to this office because it was the place where our adopted kitten had been neutered. After a couple OVERPRICED visits, today I had an emergency with my cat so I called at 1pm. I won't bore you with the anecdote of the attitude of the front desk "lady". She basically gave me no choice but saying yes to a 4:30 pm appointment. I just needed to get out of a previous commitment. Unfortunately, I couldn't. I called right back probably before an hour had passed and Ohhhhh surprise!!!!!!! This "lady" abruptly states that their 24 hour policy demands a $60 charge for canceling. ...matter is: not a minimal intention of treating me as an established patient owner; not a minimal interest of giving me an option as I was worried for my cat and I wanted him to be checked; the woman couldn't even understand that I couldn't cancel 24 hrs ahead as I had not had more than an hour to make arrangements to get there...; she said that they close at 6 so they couldn't see him any other time not even the next day; THE CHERRY ON TOP: she HANG UP on me when I said that I was considering to switch vets after such an unsympathetic response. I hope these veterinarians pay close attention to this review. Having for receptionist a person that should be guarding prisons won't help their business! Obviously their policy is: money first then we talk about your pet... If charging a cancelation fee is more relevant than keeping a "client" (certainly it would be a stretch calling our pets patients) too bad!! I gave the BUSINESS a star because the young doctor (Dr. Parsley)who checked my cat on the $344 visit was nice and seemed to like animals! You owe her the star. read more

I just went in for a rabies shot. That was what I made the appointment for, a rabies shot only. The assistant came in and said that the doctor would be in to check our dog soon. The doctor came in, looked at the dog a little, said that she needed to get her teeth brushed, and suggested a medicine that they sell in the office for fleas and heartworm. The bill was $60 for the 5 minute 'check up' that I did not realize I was paying for, and only $30 for the rabies shot. We love our dog a lot, but we really don't like being jerked around over it. Campus Veterinary Clinic just lost our business forever. It is not right to charge for services that the customer doesn't ask for without making it clear that you are providing a service that will incur a charge. You guys should change you sneaky tactics. It is very unethical. read more

We've brought our kitten here three times but I'm thinking of shopping around for a vet that isn't so concerned with making money. Today I took our 7th month old kitten here to get neutered. First was a short exam and then a cost estimate. I almost fainted because the proposed bill was $300. The SPCA charges 35-50 dollars but we couldn't get our kitten in there because the lady we got him from has never given us his vaccine history so the SPCA won't even see him. My bf is a student with no job and I am an unemployed recent college grad and we were told on the phone the surgery would be $108 which, at about $50 each, we could handle. So I kind of freaked and read the estimate and found they had added a bunch of unnecessary crap I didn't want. They added a microchipping (our baby is strictly indoors) and a blood panel that CLEARLY STATES on the paper that it is only recommended for a cat over 7 years old. We have a freaking 7 MONTH old kitten who is extremely healthy and active. The microchipping was going to be $70 and the blood panel $85. Um, no. Had them cross those off the bill. It was a preliminary bill, but the fact that they automatically added those unnecessary things really turned me off from this place. Also, they add $40 for pain meds that we weren't told about on the phone. Bill will probably be over $150. I'm picking the kittums up in a couple hours so we'll see how the surgery went, though I'm sure all is well. Now for the good: the vet techs are extremely sweet and clearly adore animals. The first time we brought our kitten in the vet tech would hardly put him down to let the dr. examine him. Dr. Yen is always gentle with the patient as well. Waiting room is cozy and they usually have classical music playing. I'd like to continue going here but the money, money, money aspect and lack of clarity with the bills might send me somewhere else. read more

I brought my new puppy here due to the early morning hours and location, as well as the positive reviews here. The vet spent very little time with us directly, and pushed medication without discussing what we wanted. He had a minor ear infection, so his ears were cleaned and he was given a prescription. Following other advice, we held off on the prescription and simply wiped his ears out daily, and this cleared it up nicely. (The ear cleaning itself was done well.) They were pushy on flea/heartworm as well, and didn't adequately explain the various choices there are to prevent these issues. Additionally, they pushed me to do the deworming even though he had JUST been dewormed in his previous home one week prior, and had no signs of parasites. They sent us home with a "puppy package" list of recommended services, which included of a bunch of crap that was unnecessary. The whole thing felt like a sales pitch. A few days later, we got a note encouraging us to review on yelp (hence all the positive reviews?). We went elsewhere for future vet needs. read more

Love this place. As a first time dog owner, we weren't sure of a lot of things and had a ton of questions. The vet and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. They gave us great advice on how to take care of our bichon mix. New customer. We called Campus Vet first thing this morning hoping to bring in our 8 year-old cat who contracted a limp yesterday (though we didn't observe what might have caused it). They fit us right in at 8am. When we arrived we were greeted with smiles and care. Rachel, the vet tech, brought us right in (no wait) and was positive and upbeat. Dr. Yen came in a few moments later and he too, was positive and clear. He examined our cat and determined we'd give her an anti-inflammatory and keep an eye on it for 3 days since he couldn't feel anything broken or swollen. I appreciate that approach as opposed to suggesting we get an Xray right away. Rachel also asked which vet we'd gone to in the past so that they could call and request our cat's records. All these little gestures really felt good. I think we have happily found our next vet. read more

I had my first visit to this vet today and it was an amazing experience. I delt with Dr. Yen and he was courteous, professional, warm and took genuine interest in my kitten's well being. I am glad it was such a great visit and I look forward to dealing with them for a long time! read more

UPDATE: Unfortunately, my cat had a bad reaction to one of the vaccines he was given on our initial visit. I'm sure this was not Dr. Reid's fault (my vet friend in San Diego said it's fairly common). Not only did Dr. Reid take good care of us, but she took the time to call the vaccine distributor to have them pay for the office visit, lab work, and medicine. Definitely sticking with Campus Vet. --- One of the many sucky things about moving is having to find new doctors, especially a vet. We used to go to Mission Pet on Valencia and were sad to leave Dr. Gordon behind. But I took my cat to Campus Veterinary Clinic today for the first time and had a great experience. I'll start by saying that the last place I took him here in Berkeley screwed up and told me he didn't need any shots when, in fact, he did. Since I was totally confused about what he did and did not need, the folks at Campus Vet were kind enough to let me come in the day before to review his records, saying that if he didn't need anything, I could save myself the time, money and trauma to the cat. Turns out he needed a few vaccinations and Eryn and Dr. Reid took excellent care of him today. They took plenty of time with us, letting him get acclimated to the room and calming him down during the scary parts. They asked a lot of good questions and patiently answered all of my questions. Plus, when they found a small tumor, Dr. Reid took a sample right on the spot and since it was just fat (ew, I know) she didn't charge me for the service. Friendly desk staff, warm and knowledgeable care givers. We're sticking with Campus Veterinary Clinic. read more

I've been taking my dogs here for a couple years and couldn't be happier! The staff is always very friendly and loving towards my dogs, and the prices are competitive for the area (certainly more reasonable than the last vet I went to). They will give you a free exam for each friend you refer, and let's just say I've gotten a few free exams by now because I cannot recommend them highly enough. I always see Dr. Reid, who my dogs and I love, but I think the whole staff here is fantastic, and you'll be happy with whoever you choose! read more

What a great experience! My kitty couldn't stop throwing up, and I hadn't taken her to the vet since moving to Berkeley.
