Average food, above average prices, below average service. That about sums this place up. First, the food is decent. Tasty enough that you would probably eat the whole entree, however the portions aren't huge so that's not saying a lot. The prices you will actually pay are about $1-2 higher than their website shows, so you may have a slight touch of sticker shock when you actually order what you researched on their online menu. Maybe they don't care to update their website, maybe the guy who was doing it quit? Maybe they want you to look at their online menu and think, "oh, this place has reasonable prices, let's go!" Only to arrive at the cash register surprised that the single item with no sides (works breakfast burrito) and coffee have cost you $12-13. I mean $9.10 for a medium sized breakfast burrito with a minimal amount of meat?? And no other side??? Come on now!! The service leaves much to be desired. Slow, even when you call ahead. They're always behind somehow. And no one seems to care when the line builds to clear out the door. The packaging for takeout orders is super cheapo, we're talking a waxed paper plate and tin foil. Good luck managing if you have more than one item!! You can't even reasonably put this type of takeout packaging in a bag, everything would be tossed about and ruined. So, after trying this place about a dozen times (close to work) I have finally decided it is too much. The high prices, the slow service/long waits/forgotten items, and the coffee, oh yes. The coffee is far from great for a coffee shop. On the other hand they do have like 200 teas you can order, sure to find something you like there! So, I hate to be so critical of locally owned businesses, but I really think they need to offer more for what they charge. After noting that this place holds a four star rating I came in with high hopes, but lost what enthusiasm would have made this place one of my regular hangouts after I swallowed the last drop of coffee from my small 12oz cup and learned that all refills are not only self serve but .50 cents ea :-(....... So much for the idea of sitting here to sip coffee. Now I realize that 50 cents of course won't break the bank but with a name like "Campus Coffee Bean" one would almost assuredly expect to at least find plain black coffee available at a reasonable price....so much for accommodating the poor college student in this area. Now I am aware that this is the 21st Century, and things have changed. I have adapted to the fact that decent coffee cost more money. I am not opposed to getting my own coffee when that is the setup but in this case, the $2.35 price for one self served 12oz mug of black "gourmet" coffee, and .50 cent refill charge didn't feel right. In fact it just left me with a renewed affection for any establishment where I can still stop in for a cup of hot coffee, read the paper or visit with a friend while enjoying the pleasure of that coffee kept hot by pleasant wait staff, who by the way I am quite willing and glad to reward afterward for making such an experience possible. Food=good. Coffee=a little expensive, but good. INTERNET= TERRIBLE. I am spending the summer in Flag studying for the CA Bar Exam. Since Flag doesn't have any prep courses available in person, I'm taking my course online. The major component of the online course is a streaming lecture series, which I have to watch pretty much every day for the next two months. I had a dream. It involved biking to the Campus Coffee Bean every morning, getting coffee and breakfast, and watching a lecture in one of their comfy booths. Unfortunately, my dream was shattered this morning when I discovered that the bandwidth at the 'Bean is LITERALLY (I checked) 392 KB/s. I couldn't even load yelp to write this review. The staff is usually very friendly and eager to make you what ever you're caffeinated craving for. I do think their baked goods, especially their muffins are the Best thing they sell! They offer plenty of room for you to use whether it's to have some lite convo with someone, reading a book or hogging a table with multiple laptops trying to make this place your office... I am sure that this place was once THE favorite coffee place for students on NAU, which is less than a block away. In the last few years, however, a LOT of development has seen the introduction of several coffee chains located directly on campus - inside the various eateries and academic buildings there. Starbucks and Einstein and others have the benefit of locations that are far closer to dorm rooms and classrooms, which I am sure means less business out at Campus Coffee Bean. That's a shame, because this place is very nice. Open at 6am 7 days a week, it may be the only coffee shop in town to have such excellent early morning hours - with a full kitchen to boot! That's right. All the food served here, from breakfast at 8am to lunch and dinner until 8pm is made in house. At that point, one could almost stop calling it a coffee shop and start calling it a full service restaurant. But... at the same time, the coffee-house vibe is so carefully cultivated that it would be a shame to downgrade the status to that of a restaurant. Instead, we will call it a coffee shop with an excellent menu and kitchen. This place has ample seating, room for at least 60 including some very cozy tables off in the corners. There is also plenty of patio seating which is perfect for the unseasonably warm afternoons Flagstaff has been experiencing this January. The aformentioned decor is excellent. Very functional and befitting a coffee shop so close to campus. Despite the clear targeting towards college students, everyone in the building besides myself is over 30. It's 7:30am and there are only five of us so far. I am sure it will get more crowded towards lunch and into the evening. I have heard tell that hey host events here and that it is a popular place for students to meet off-campus. An extra-special bonus in my eyes is that the seats are ALL cushioned! Every single seat that I can see has a comfortable cushion for your bottom. almost as if to say - Hey! Stay a while! Relax! - It's one of those little details that a lot of the shops I have visited so far tend to miss. Plus, it's actually warm in here! Even sitting next to the window, as I tend to do, I am plenty warm. Howabout the coffee? Well, for an extra 50 cents, I was able to sample several kinds of coffee this morning. It's all serve-yourself and the refills are by the honor system. It's pretty good. The mild is mild, the medium is medium, the bold is exactly what I'm after. Not quite as good as Rendezvous, but a little better than some of the places I have sampled so far. I find that I am quickly becoming much more picky about my coffee. I suppose I should have expected that. The blueberry scone I got is just a little on the sweet side. Too much sugar for my taste, but it goes well with the bitterness of my coffee. I paid $5 and change for the scone and coffee, which is about $1 more than I think I should have. It looks like there might only be one person on staff for the early morning shift - but it isn't a problem. Service is fast and personable, though not quite as smiley or friendly as some places. Not a big deal; I do tend to give off a "fuck you" vibe before I've had coffee. I know a lot of people like that. No point wasting a smile on someone who hasn't had coffee yet (?) ;-) My only gripe about Campus Coffee Bean is the relentless country music coming through speakers hidden away throughout the building, including the restrooms. My headphones do a fine job of blocking it out - but if it is a staple around here, it will serve as a barrier to me returning. In fact, it might help explain the complete lack of students here... I could probably ask them to change it, but I hate being THAT high maintenance customer. The wifi here is very responsive. I can comfortably stream music, facebook, email and write on the site without encountering any issues. Certainly faster than most places I have been so far. The password is posted at the cash register and was fairly easy to find without having to nag the staff for it. Overall? I like it here. I would certainly come back if the country music would go away. I also hear excellent things about the food - so perhaps a midday or evening visit is merited. read more

The poor guy behind the counter was clearly overworked. The only one there; running around trying to take orders, make drinks, ect. I ordered an iced, nonfat, sugar free double shot caramel latte... "We're out of sugar free caramel" Weak. Ok, I'll just take the regular I suppose... 5 minutes later my drink comes up and it's hot. Another 5 minute wait till he clears the rest of the customers that were in line. Then another couple of minute wait for the drink to be remade... In a town full of great coffee shops, this stands as one of the best. Not only do they serve great beverages, but they serve a wide assortment of food ranging from breakfast sandwiches, to waffles, to hamburgers. They also have wifi, and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. So in short, it's the perfect destination for a working college student. However, this place has a tendency to become very crowded and noisy. Also, some of the seats are awkwardly placed so it can get cramped. Finally, I feel that this place tries too hard to be all things to everyone, which results in the barista's and the cooks to become confused about what to prepare at times and how, which could lead to long waits for food and drinks. I've been coming to the Campus Coffee Bean for years, and I hate to do this to a local business, but it has gotten bad at the bean. Today I waited in line for almost 20 minutes. The prices are comparable to a nice sit down dinner restaurant and the bean just does not deliver. It is a breakfast and lunch cafe with high dining dinner style prices. We stopped in for drinks over the weekend while we were visiting and I just love that this is a REAL coffee shop, not a lame Starbucks. I had a really good greek omelette here. My husband had the pesto breakfast burrito which he didn't love but I did. They had an awesome selection of teas. They have a weird refill set up however. They have everything out on a table which makes it seem like it would be free refills. But then they have a little sign saying to put 50 cents in a box if you get a refill. That's fine, but weird, if you aren't familiar with it you might have to go back to your seat and dig around for some change. And then while we were there the employees were complaining about people not doing this. If you really want people to pay for their refills move stuff behind the counter, and don't complain about customers when there are customers there. read more

I'm just not a fan. Slow service. Very basic breakfast sandwiches, omelets, burritos. Last time I had a chorizo breakfast burrito which was very bland: way too many potatoes, cheese and greasy choizo wrapped in a flour tortilla for $7 with a pathetic little orange slice on the side. Adding a coffee served in an old school small mug was $10. Today, they were out of most bagels, so I got an egg and cheese on a mish mash (everything) bagel. No choice of cheese and I don't think they offer egg whites. On the menu its $3.50 which is very reasonable. However, I added a large coffee which was $2.35. However, the guy at the register said, oh that's the breakfast special and charged me $5.95. I don't really care, nor did I say anything, but why would the special be MORE MONEY than if you got them separate. The ambiance reminds me of a old school musty cabin with mismatched decor. Being from Texas, next to Denton (coffee city of the metroplex), we were hoping for the best. This place exceeded all expectations and more!!! Portions were huge, freshly made and the service was impeccable!! Coffee was delicious and very satisfying to my seasoned coffee companion. I ordered the oatmeal and wheat toast and think it could have fed 3 people!! If you have a big appetite, this is the breakfast end all for you. Great atmposhere, quick wifi, and friendly patrons. Lots of space, decent enough amounts of outlets (from what I could tell-but I didn't look that hard) Dude at the counter was amusing, so I gave him a tip even though he only got a mug off the shelf and a pastry out of the display. Said pastry was tasty, too cold at first (chocolate filled croissant) but was at the right temp a bit later to be properly enjoyed. Drip coffee was a bit chilly, but I suppose with the outside temp in the 40's that doesn't take long even if its inside. Parking lot is a hoot...but was total Flagstaff. Coupon found in the campus coupon book-found it at a display at the bookstore but seemed like there would be other displays around town. Non-Chain coffee shop which is HIGHLY lovely and refreshing compared to what is readily available for the most part. Hmmmmmmmmmm, I am not sure how I want this to go. I usually lean on the side of higher ratings, and I am this time as well, as I really want to give this place a two star, but I really think it is because other yelpers may have built up my expectations. I chose to come here for a few reason, all of which I got from Yelp. 1. It was highly reviewed on a whole. 2. Reviews said it was a good place to get work done 3. Reviews said it had fast wifi 1. The wifi, was VERY slow, clocked in at .583 Mbps, there was also very few people there, about 10 total, so I don't think it was just getting sucked away by others. 2. As for a a good place to get work done, there were lots of outlets, and tables, but they had music playing VERY loud, which is poor for working / studying / etc. 3. As for it being highly reviewed on a whole, outside of the two above, it wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. Service was friendly, but very slow. This may be atypical due to the time, as we were there around lunch, but it is very doubtful I would choose this place as a destination again. read more

This was my go-to place when I came to NAU for my summer classes. I usually came in the mornings for coffee and breakfast to go. I always ordered the same breakfast (ham/egg/cheese croissant) and have never been disappointed. The same goes for my blended mocha drink. I just wish that it came in a smaller size when I didn't need too much of a jolt! In the mornings there always seemed to be 1 person at the register/making drinks and 1 person cooking. Since they make your food to order, I always made sure I came early and had enough time to make it to class. If you're in a rush head somewhere else, unless you're the only 1 in line and no other meals are being prepared. Service was always nice but sometimes slow, depending on the person at the register. However, when it was slow I noticed that the cashier was usually having a friendly conversation with the customer at the counter. In those cases I can excuse slower service because it shows the employees are actually taking an interest in their customers. I tend to not be lenient when employees are slow because they are chatting it up with coworkers, although this has never been the case here. Other than wait time my only complaint is the price. My breakfast easily cost close to $12. Had I gone to a fast food place, it would be half to three-quarters of that price (based on portion size). I don't know if this is the norm in the area due to location but nevertheless, the price prevented me from stopping by as much as I wanted to visit. I wish there was a similar place closer to home. I'm from out of town & I get the vibe this establishment does not like tourists. I came inside around 8am & happened to be on the phone with my husband. The old little man behind the counter did not acknowledge me at all as I approached the counter. There were at least three other workers walking around talking to each other. No one looked at me as I was standing at the register for at least 3 to 5 minutes. I finally said "Can I get a coffee?" The little old man behind the counter snorted, "Yeah when you get off the phone!" Never in my life have I been to a place that wouldn't serve someone because they were making a phone call. I then replied that I would go somewhere else & he said "Go Ahead". Seriously the worst customer service I've ever had. I don't know if he was rude because I'm Native or because I'm from out of town. The trick with this kind of place is to manage expectations. We went in looking for a casual, hearty breakfast - we left a bit disappointed. The atmosphere is exactly what we wanted: it's a university kind of place, with slightly grungy decor, lots of students studying, and cheap refills on the coffee. I feel comfortable in cafes like this. The food though was a bit sad. I had a classic bacon and eggs breakfast, but the potatoes were almost stone cold, the bacon was over-cooked and small, and the best thing going for it all was the rye toast. My other half had a stack of pancakes, and while they were fine (real bananas and walnuts are always good) they were simply too big and heavy. I will give them full points for a good cup of coffee. If you just want to hang out, and you're not expecting too much, then it's a good place. If you want a nice brunch, I imagine Flagstaff has better options. read more

This is one of my favorite places in Flagstaff. There food selection is always fantastic. They have, obviously, great coffee, teas, and other hip drinks. The breakfast burrito is particularly awesome. Also the Grand Canyon sandwich is excellent. The atmosphere is chill and there is nothing pretentious about it. It is usually nice and quiet where one can do homework or other studies. They have a great open mic on Monday nights, live music on Friday nights!
