First time going there this week. I had a vanilla chai latte and Greek salad. The latte was really good, I enjoyed it a lot! I've yet to see a chai latte with foam and this had foam so that was cool. The salad was delicious! Especially the dressing. Enjoyed it a lot. Busy place lots of students working on their laptops. Only thing I'd suggest is they need to hire another person. The poor guy at the counter was the only one their minus the cook. So He had to take order, make drinks and do everything by himself. That's probably why people complain about slow service here. Easily resolvable if they hired another person. A little expensive to. For my two items it was $15. But overall good food, good chai latte, nice environment. read more

This was a good place as an alternative to the big guys (you know who). I stopped in there 3 times over the week that I was in flagstaff and had a baked good every time. I must say the muffins were pretty darn awesome. As for the coffee, the drinks depended on the barista. After my brother-in-law and i were there two days in a row, he asked if he ordered something different because the cup was only half full that day as compared to the day prior. I just explained that different people make drinks differently, however, its not what I would expect from a good coffee shop. I will say that the Mochas, iced and hot vanilla lattes and plain lattes I had were pretty tasty though. The lines were always there and moving quite slow so that is a little bit of a bummer. read more

When I first moved to Flag a couple of years ago, I loved to eat here and kick back with a cup of coffee. Now? I almost never come here. I've had my drinks come out as the wrong drink several times, but it is so impossible to even get to the counter in the first place that it isn't worth fighting the crowd to get back to the barrista and get it fixed. The booths and tables are almost always dirty. They refuse to run their A/C for some bizarre reason, so it is always hot inside. And then there's the internet - not even worth hooking up to. The food is still good, and I have yet to get rude service (mostly just rushed service, which is understandable with how busy they always are). But it just isn't worth it for me to pay the prices they're asking. read more

This is a chill place to spend a morning, evening or night. Relax and enjoy the view of the peaks. Good coffee and food and just a comfortable atmosphere makes you want to hang out for awhile with friends. If you love tea, they have a wall of options. The coffee here is the best in Flagstaff. The breakfast and lunch menus offer a great selection at very reasonable prices. We loved the food and the food selection. The hours are from 6 00 AM to 8 00 PM - great for people that want a delicious and well-priced breakfast. The service is excellent - and the staff tried to make sure that we were served promptly and that we were happy. They have lots of (comfortable) indoor and outdoor seating. Very, very, very mediocre. I was impressed with how big it was on the inside and how packed out it was, but I think it's close to the university. As far as coffee, not good. We had our coffee order messed up about 3 times, and all we wanted was just basic coffee. The girl gave us flavored (who serves flavored anymore?), and then got mad that we said it wasn't right. Food menu is expansive but not healthy. It's clear they appeal to the students, but for students this is a pricey little place. There were few vegetarian options on the menu and even fewer vegan choices. Everything seemed smothered in cream cheese. Overall, very unimpressed, and we made the mistake of coming back another time (we don't know Flagstaff very well) and experienced the same issues. I will never come here again. I loved this place and have been a loyal costumer for years.. Tonight a blonde employee and her friend took it upon themselves to sit in a booth and loudly talk and laugh at each other. When they saw that they were distracting people they decided to be even louder and curse loudly while staring and whispering about costumers. She also chatted about how she was going to do a terrible job closing and "didn't even care" So sad because this was such a great place to study, but this was downright obnoxious and disappointing. Great food, good drink selection, great atmosphere! Every time I come the staff are friendly, helpful and efficient, and the kitchen staff get the food out at a good pace. I love going here, even if it's just to have a pastry and do some homework. One time I called ahead because I was in a rush to get to work but was starving. Good food, and good coffee when the employees understand what has dairy in it and what does not. Be careful oredering if you are lactose intolerant. I always follow my order with the fact that I can not eat dairy. I am continuously served it in the cheese they included in my burrito, or the coffee flavoring that is made with dairy. I have worked in a coffee shop and other various customer service oriented positions, and I have to say there is nothing appealing about this shop, the beverages (didn't try the food), or the service. Really the only plus is the nice scenic view from the patio. The girl working behind the counter didn't greet me when I walked up to order, and pretty much ignored me until she finished what she was doing. Granted, she was busy making a drink, but it's still good customer service to acknowledge a waiting customer - That was the first part i had a problem with. She was nice when she took my order, but as soon as I payed she went back to ignoring me as she made my drink. I noticed that the only straws they have are behind the counter, and they are all sleeveless straws that are exposed. When she finished making my drink she grabbed the straw with her bare hands (I hadn't seen her wash her hands up until this point), stuck it in my drink, and put the beverage beneath a heat lamp without a word. I understand the intention behind the heat lamp, but you don't put a frozen beverage underneath one. And, the fact that she grabbed my straw with her bare hands really grossed me out. read more

This place is real popular with the NAU university kids. The food is eatable - but not much else. The staff has a high turnover. Every time I go to order, there is a new young woman working the register. The owner probably pays a low wage, and the college kid tips just don't help pay for the rising rents in Flagstaff city. Flagstaff is on its way to becoming Phoenix II of the Colorado Basin. The coffee is bitter and horrible - and I mean real bad. They have a good happy hour, two for one, coffee special from 4-6 p.m. - but the mean and nasty taste just kills the vibe. The Internet used to work good - but now one has to sign in with an e-mail address - the owner is desperate for customer loyalty. Good food. Relatively inexpensive for the quantity and quality too. The cooks are really quick too! The drip coffee is meh. They serve Seattle's Best which is not that great. They make a really good apple chai and have a huge selection of tea, though, and their mochas and stuff are just fine. The food is really good. They have soups, salads, sandwiches (try the Mars Hill, hot, if you're not a vegetarian), all kinds of baked goodies, Naked juice, Jones soda, fruit, yogurt, chips, boba tea, a variety of chai teas, great (huge) muffins, and the best breakfast burrito ever (the tree hugger, or something-potatoes, cream cheese, spinach, and eggs). The food service can be slooooooow, though, so prepare to wait awhile. The employees are pretty cool and nice. The atmosphere is nice. They have a stage and frequently have musicians...though usually not anything I'd want to listen to so that sort of negates some of the good atmosphere. I love coming here. I love the wide array of seating. You can sit at a counter, or a booth, or a table near the mini stage or (my favorite area) in the hallway leading to the bathrooms. They have such good coffee (way better than Bookman's. Not better than Macy's) and it's cheap for the most part. You can buy a cup for a dollar something and refills are $0.50. Or you can get an endless cup for two something. I'm not really a fan of their mochas -- they always taste chalky and I'm not sure how to broach that issue when I talk to the barista. Went in here late morning on 3/11 to grab a small cup of milk. Simple, right? It should've been, if the person working at the register had any sense of customer service. I could tell it was going to be a challenge when she was rolling her eyes at the customer in front of me. When it was my turn, I tried to remedy the situation by giving her a nice, genuine smile and a salutation. But, all she said in a cold, unfriendly tone was, what do you want? I told her, and she begrudgingly dropped the cup of milk and tossed the lid with the unwrapped straw on the counter. Hardly even worth one star. I go in and the girl who comes up to the counter to take my order YAWNS right in my face. I asked what the soup is today and she pointed to some sign that was hard to see and even harder to read. I said, "Can't you just tell me?" And she replied, "well it changes every day". Ooookay so apparently you just rolled out of bed and wasn't even awake enough to hear what today's soup is when you came in to work. By the way, she YAWNED a 2nd time and her hair was all messed up, sort of like wanna-be dreadlocks. I wouldn't be surprised if she were still her pajamas. The first time I ate breakfast here and got food poisoning, I figured it was the Thai place downtown I visited for dinner. The second time, I was willing to pass off as just bad luck or a rare mistake in food prep. This being the third time, I'm forced to conclude that something is seriously wrong with the Bean's kitchen. The coffee is decent. That's the best I can say. The prices? Not so much. A bagel (Made by Biff's, available there for $.95) and a cup of coffee run over five bucks. Getting a decent breakfast or lunch costs upwards of twelve. The staff is mostly friendly, however there seems to be little to no oversight. Whether or not you get polite, efficient service entirely depends on who works the counter that day. I've waited for five minutes at the counter, first in line, for the young woman taking orders to finish wiping a table. This is a great place to hang out, meet up with some friends or just sit down for some coffee and food. There are plenty of chairs and table, and booths as well as a bar area. If you're studying there are about 3 or 4 tables in the back area away from everything which is nice. A lot, if not all, of their menu items (food wise) are named after things in Flagstaff or around Flagstaff. I had the Mars Hill sandwich which was great, I also tried the strawberry banana smoothie which was very good as well and they put fresh fruit in the smoothie too!
