With the rise of drive-thru coffee throughout Arizona, it is so refreshing to have another place in town that allows walk-up orders as well. Phoenix doesn't seem to have these anymore. I'm not sure if Tucson ever did. But up in the mountains, you should do what I did and grab a nice honey-lavender latte on your morning walks. Service was great--it only took 3-4 minutes and the college kids running the place were eager to talk about the menu and things to do around town. Stopped at Matador Coffee on our way to the Grand Canyon. We were surprised to see they had alcoholic beverages/ mixed drinks at the morning hours. We decided to have one since we had a designated driver. The tequila sunrise was a perfect start to the morning before even sipping on a coffee afterwards. For the alcoholic drinks, you do have to drink them there on property. But the place is nicely decorated with pictures of matadores all over the place along with other Arizona things. The young lady that helped us was super nice and helpful. She offered suggestions regarding drinks and I went with the iced dirty chai latte. The chai had a good flavor and was also offered with more spice, but the way I had it was perfect. The place also offers a little drive in booth where you can pull up and order a coffee in case you're in a rush and want to just get a beverage before heading to your destination. Found out they got it from Matador and I've been ordering online ever since. I highly recommend you order their beans, and grind and brew them. The outside of the coffee shop is what drew us into a visiting. Once we arrived the shop was beautiful, clean, and playing great music. The staff were very welcoming and friendly with recommendations and general small talk. The service was excellent with our orders coming out very fast. We came with a party of 11 and everyone enjoyed their drinks ranging from hot lattes, dirty chais, and smoothies. We ended up trying a breakfast burrito, bagel, avocado toast, and breakfast toast and left no leftovers. We grabbed a bag of espresso beans to take home. Definitely check this spot out. read more

Drawback is there is a line that goes out the door- which is fine when it's not too cold or hot... but not sure how I would feel waiting out there if the elements were questionable. The drive thru is an odd little building separate from the store and it's a little confusing when driving by. Parking is tough but the things you do for good coffee! I really like this place. It's super cute and dog friendly since they have an outdoor patio off to the side. Their main space is indoor/outdoor with big garage doors that open into the space. They also have a small drive thru shack. The staff was friendly and the food and drinks came pretty quickly. We got a breakfast burrito with bacon and a croissant breakfast sandwich with ham. Both weren't much to look at, however they were huge, and TASTY. Not the best lookers but excellent tasters! I also got an iced Thin Mint coffee which was delicious. read more

This is a pretty cool spot. I always try to support local and this was one of the only spots open early with breakfast and lattes. The aesthetic is inviting and fun - very unique like a 1950's diner mixed with some millennial touches and a more relaxed feel. We had a couple of the sandwiches and they were super tasty. The green chiles on everything are such a great touch to the flavor. Coffee was also fantastic and much better than a chain. I will warn you it's in a kinda weird spot and parking is a little tight but you'll figure it out! Great experience, it will be my spot when I'm in town. read more

Went inside at a non busy time. Got our drinks right away. I enjoyed a Dirt Clod. It was the perfect level of sweet. It is a white mocha and the put a chunk of chocolate in the bottom. My friend and I arrived here early in the morning, about 5 minutes before they opened, and there had just been a huge (by our California standards) snow storm overnight. We sat in our car, until I noticed the Route 66 sign and decided to get a picture of me in front of it. By this point it was maybe a minute before they opened and we saw an employee walk out from inside, to the little drive through booth and back, so we assumed it was fine to walk in. Apparently not. Despite the snow on the ground, and more coming down, the barista told us to wait outside. Normally I'd understand, but it was snowing... they could have just as easily said, you can wait inside but give us a minute. So anyways, points off for that lack of hospitality. Otherwise, the coffee was perfectly fine, though mine was too sweet, despite asking that it be less sweet. The breakfast burritos were good though and definitely filling! read more

Super cute spot with a wide patio. The service was friendly, even as we squeezed in 7 minutes before closing that day. There were some interesting things on the menu but nothing to write home about. I got whatever espresso drink they had with the mint. It was good but sort of lukewarm, which wasn't great considering how cold we were when we came in. I don't think I'd seek this place out as there weren't vegan treats offered, which was surprising for a coffee shop of this category. Other than that, their coffee and ambiance are great! read more
