Stopped by Matador Coffee on our way home from Page for a quick pick-me-up. There's a small parking lot as well as a drive-thru. We chose to park and go inside to also use the restroom. The staff behind the counter was lovely and greeted us right away. The coffee shop is spacious and offers plenty of seating. Seems like a great place to work, study, or meet up with a friend. I usually go for lattes, but kept it simple with a plain cold brew. Theirs was smooth, refreshing, and gave me the caffeine boost I needed to get through the rest of the ride home. My guys also enjoyed their iced coffees!

Ok so this coffee is absolutely ridiculously good! I enjoyed 4 shots of espresso over ice. The coffee was super smooth. We ordered bagels that were toasted perfectly with a generous layer of cream cheese. The blueberry scone was as gigantic and freshly baked. Like it was warm! Lots of great seating and clean bathrooms. The baristas were super friendly.

Got the brand new breakfast dog. Definitely was a little scared trying this unique breakfast concept. A fresh glizzy with great snap, potato, chillies and cheese. Highly recommend. Also the young man working at the front with exceptional style was very nice and helpful.

The staff was very helpful and willing to answer questions about menu items since there are some things I need to avoid. Their coffee is delicious! Usually I prefer milk or cream in my coffee but when I tasted my husband's cold brew I was blown away because it is so smooth! I vibe with the playlist to boot lol! Decent coffee that I ended up grabbing on the go. Has a drive thru and was conveniently placed along my trip through flagstaff. The mixed berry smoothie had banana which I didnt see it stated on the menu and my wife is allergic so that part wasn't great. Wasted $7 on the smoothie read more

So to maybe cut down on the wait time I tried to call before driving over but they couldn't be bothered to answer their phone. I get there place my order and - this is a PERSISTENT PROBLEM - they have no *milk*!! what kind of coffee place doesn't have MILK? and they're like 5 mins from Dollar General/Family Dollar/Safeway and there's even instacart but there's no excuse to run out of milk! then I waited 25 MINUTES for a bagel that's cold in the middle and burned on the edges -- I can NOT recommend anyone go there read more

First off service was excellent. The issue is had a small coffee and bagel. Cost $9.60. That is stupid crazy expensive. And top it off they expected a top as well. A big NOPE recommend for this place. read more

Not sure why this place has low reviews, I have loved my experience here! We were in town for the holiday weekend and stopped by two different mornings. Workers were friendly and the drinks were delicious! Tried the chai latte and mint matcha (and I am a matcha snob) which were both favorites. read more

I'm surprised I have not left a review here yet. It's the closest coffee shop to where I live so I stop by here a lot. They make some good coffee and lattes here. I usually either get a mocha or a thin mint. The food is also good. I'm a big fan of their breakfast burritos which comes with eggs, potatoes, cheese and your choice of meat. I usually get the soyrizo (they don't have chorizo). They also have bacon and sausage available. I also like their bagels, I just ask for it to be toasted extra cuz they don't toast it very much. I am a big fan of this place and I'll continue to stop in... Mostly stop by though (drive thru). read more

My friend and I are driving cross country with a dog that just got rehomed with me and we were looking to support local coffee along the way. I called Matador to ask if they were dog friendly and they were, and SO nice! It was cute inside and my dog was allowed in there too and they gave us treats and we had excellent coffee and breakfast sandwiches. And then a barista came out holding 2 dog jackets and asked if we wanted one for free, courtesy of another barista who had extras ?! SO SWEET! Lady got the dopest puffy jacket that lights up and it'll keep her so warm for the rest of her trip! read more

My three positives and a negative because the world needs more positivity: + local + hubby loved the drip coffee (both with and without cream). If we lived here- he for sure would take advantage of the free refills. We were hoping to take some home but they only had light roast beans available + my latte was nice and piping hot - the service was ok. Super cute place we stopped into on route to the Petrified Forest. Staff was friendly & helpful when my wife wasn't sure what she wanted to try. I had "raspberry truffle mocha" (amazing!!) and she landed on the "Dirt Clod" which had a big chunk of chocolate in it and was delicious too. We also grabbed a Hammie Sammie to split & I wish we would've gotten two... so yummy. read more

Love the outdoor vibes and availability of having the option to go inside ( walk in), but no seating due to COVID. Or drive thru or walk up at the cute stand! Our barista was rad! I stopped in last Sunday for a breakfast sandwich and some coffee and found one of my new favorite breakfast joints in Flag. Today when I had a hankering for a mid day breakfast sandwich I knew just the place I needed to go. Once again I decided to go with a breakfast sandwich and some coffee. The barista was super nice and got our food and coffees out quick. We opted to sit on the purple couch today to enjoy our breakfast. This location has the perfect vibe going on, the other Matador across town is just a bit to chaotic for a hang out spot. I can't recommend this location enough. I will definitely be back for a delicious coffee and/ or a sandwich. Although maybe I should branch out and try a burrito next week... I guess only time will tell. read more

Have stopped in twice now. Once for coffee once for tea. Friendly staff and cute place. I was bummed they don't open till six. I went to grab a coffee on an early am drive and had to go to the Dutch shop because this one was closed. Always a good spot to stop on the way home and grab some coffee. My sister and I's favorites are the Raspberry Truffle and Thin mint, both with coconut milk! The atmosphere is nice, the drinks are yummy, and after a looong hike in the morning sun, it was so nice to sit and relax in the cool air with my doggie. read more

The everything bagel breakfast sandwich is so good and loaded! I ordered it with sausage and it is so scrumptious that I can't wait to come back to our new favorite place! Probably the worst coffee and breakfast bagel I've ever had. The coffee tasted like straight milk, the berry smoothie had no flavor and was foamy, and the bagels were soggy, and full of liquid from the green chili that had so many hard stems! And to top it off, we spent almost $70!! read more

We visited this morning on our way north, service was good and fast, burritos were good but coffee was one of the worst we had in a long time. It was very acidic burned tasting coffee and watered down instead of a creamy latte. We couldn't drink it. Don't think it was made right and the beans weren't the best. read more

We were greeted right away and seated inside, there is an outside patio. Our server was friendly, introduced himself, asked if we had any questions, took our beverage order and allowed us time to look over the menu. I ordered their endless coffee, my wife ordered a bottled coke that came with a glass and ice. As it was just after 10 AM, We decided to order breakfast. My wife ordered biscuits and gravy with bacon. This is served with two biscuits smothered in gravy with bacon crumbles sprinkled on the gravy and fried county potatoes. There is no strips of bacon, just a lot of bacon crumbles. The county potatoes are small (just about large cherry tomato size) potatoes that are cut in half and fried. The outside is crispy, the inside is soft and well seasoned. Perfect with the gravy. I ordered the biscuits and gravy with sausage that comes either in links or patties. I chose the patties and the addition of two eggs over-easy. The biscuits were crispy on the outside, soft and crumbly on the inside. A very well baked biscuit. The white gravy was seasoned well and delicious. One of the better tasting gravy we have had in a while, although I prefer a sausage gravy. The two sausage patties were properly cooked and definitely added to the overall flavor of the gravy and eggs (cooked properly). To me the county potatoes were the best addition to the plate as I used them to soak up the gravy and egg yolk after the biscuits were gone. I would have liked to see a larger portion of gravy and potatoes on my plate, as my wife's plate had more of both. Likely had to do with the two eggs that occupied real estate on my plate. The endless coffee stayed true to its name, I never ran out of coffee and there was both packaged sugar, sugar substitutes, three types of coffee creamer (half and half, French vanilla and Hazel nut?) Overall the service was attentive, friendly and the food was good and arrived in a reasonable time frame. I would definitely return to the Toasted Owl again.

We popped in on a Monday morning hoping to score some great grub and we certainly found some! Cubano ($20.95) - Starting with the bread - it's really fluffy, not toasted or pressed as with usual cubanos. Unfortunately, it's probably a little too light for the sandwich because some parts get mushy from being soaked in all the dijonnaise. The dijonnaise is very sweet, creamy with a mustardy zing. I think they add a bit too much, making the sandwich more fatty and messy to eat than I like (not to mention what I stated before about it soaking into the bread). The meat is fantastic. Both porchetta and ham are griddled on the flat top, giving them a developed and concentrated edge. The ham is to the point of being like country ham, while the porchetta still has great seasoned porky flavor. I believe they griddle the swiss cheese alongside the meat. It melts and crisps up into a cheese skirt, adding a fantastic texture to the sandwich. There's a lot of crinkle cut pickles underneath the meat, but it's not enough acid to cut through all that fat. Sandwiches come with a side of house chips. They are fried until a darker golden brown color, but aren't burnt. This gives a great kettle chip-like crunch. Even with different sized chips, they are very evenly fried with all chips being the same texture. They are salted the perfect amount. (4/5) Aleppo Pepper Pastrami sub Tomato Soup ($22.75) - This place is famous for their pastrami, and I can tell the quality. It's cooked on the griddle until it develops crisp edges. It's fatty, but the fat is rendered so there are no chewy and leathery parts. The meat is extremely tender and thinly sliced. It's honestly almost like bacon in texture, but the taste is completely different, with the exterior spices and pepper making a huge impact along with the rich concentrated meatiness inside. The bread is a nice toasted sourdough, not strongly sour in flavor, but definitely noticeable. The bottom slice is slathered with plenty of nopales studded cream cheese. It's added in a large amount and is an extremely creamy and fatty substance yet somehow doesn't overwhelm the sandwich. It's warm but not melty. The nopales are clearly there but I didn't find it to contribute much. The pastrami is layered on top of that followed by a ton of sweet brown caramelized onions that are very tender. An entire green chile, roasted and super smoky, is above that. Finally, aleppo mustard is spread on the top slice of bread. Between the green chile and the aleppo, there's a slight warmth that tinges the sandwich. It's nothing too spicy. Instead of chips, we opted to sub the Tomato Soup (no fee). It's very homestyle, full of tomato richness in a thick blend. It has a strong tangy tomato essence. There's basil oil drizzled on top for a boost of freshness. The soup is unfortunately quite a bit too acidic for my tastes, but that's only by itself! While very acidic, the soup is actually great as a balance to the sandwich (along with the pickle of course) since there's so much richness and fat coming in between the bread. (5/5) Proper Meats + Provisions definitely serves some great sandwiches. We were considering visiting again for our 2 full days in Flagstaff, but weren't able to make it because they close so early at 6!
