We're from the Western US where there are Me Ivan restaurants on every other corner and after a month of traveling East of the Mississippi River decided we needed some Mexican food. Compestre resounded good on Yelp so we decided to try it. The place was nicely decorated and the service was excellent but the food was only OK when compared to what we get in the West. I ordered my my favorite Pork chili verde plate and my wife ordered her usual chili relano and cheese enchilada. The tomatillo sauce on the pork chili verde was very bland and the cheese enchilada showed up without any cheese inside it. Just a folded tortilla shell without anything inside it, but beautiful decoration of enchilada sauce and sour cream on top. After our complaint they did bring another but it was again a folded taco shell with cheese inside and really missed the mark. Lesson learned. 4 stars compared to the slim pickins in this town. We ordered out a few days ago - a couple of burritos- they were good. I ordered one cheese enchilada- it was terrible. It wasn't hot, the cheese and tortilla were hard. The cheese dip was good but chips are extra. Loved the rice & beans... we basically reordered the same today w/out the enchilada... my husband ordered the super burrito and it is big- they put the rice & beans inside but we ordered them on the side for an extra $3.99. The cheese dip was sour. I've tried calling the restaurant several times- no one answers . We didn't want a refund, just wanted to let them know to check on it, don't want your customers sick. Last 2 times I have ordered, it has been wrong. I call back and they tell me no problem, just come back. It is not as easy as they think. So. Many. Errors. The rating should be a 1 for the food but I'm going with 2 because the staff was really friendly. Last night I ordered food to go - a burrito, spinach dip, and chips and salsa (white and red salsa). My hotel was 1 mile from the restaurant. The biggest problem is that the food was cold - all of it. The spinach dip was cold and the burrito was cool. The dip honestly tasted like it was taken out of the fridge (maybe it was). I ended up with 3 bags of chips (way too much) because the online ordering system didn't tell me that both the burrito and the dip already came with chips. On the plus side, the grilled chicken (extra $) was tasty, the beans (extra $) were ok and the avocado (extra $) was really fresh. In the app, I checked the box to 'add utensils' - I received no fork, no knife, no salt, no pepper and no napkins. While I waited on my food I ordered a drink at the bar. As I said, the people were great. I thought the bar prices would be moderate, but I was wrong. They are proud of their liquor here. Wow. With food, drink and tips my total spend was $78. read more

We are traveling and found this restaurant across from our hotel. I knew it must be awesome when we had to wait on a Tuesday night! Everything was delicious. We got a cheese dip which included some tiny green chili's which made it awesome! We also had pico de gallo which had just the right amount of cilantro and heat. My dish included shrimp, which had way more shrimp than I could eat. The dish, arroz y camarones was spectacular! My husband had a steak quesadilla and he cleaned his plate! My granddaughter had steak nachos and I thought she was going to eat the table.., there's more. Fajita nachos were delish, and so was the chicken fajitas. Wow this place was delicious!! I ordered the fajita nachos, my spouse ordered a quesadilla, and my daughter got a soft taco with beef and lettuce. It came with chips and salsa. We also received some sort of cream based sauce- also very tasty. The refried beans were bland and thin. I didn't care much for the them, but my nachos were to die for- definitely cravable! Although, I ordered them with jalapeños and they forgot to add them. Oh well! Too bad I'm just passing through on my way home from vacation. My 22 month old daughter loved her taco and the salsa! Went here for dinner since we were staying nearby at the Hampton. Our server did a great job. We asked for a recommendation and how big the portions were. Thank goodness we did. Their chips and salsa are really good. They give you a white ranch sauce as well as the salsa. We ordered the super burrito and shared it. I was glad because it was enough for 2 and we were stuffed after chips, that and a pitcher of beer. The place is clean and modern inside and the food was really good. I wish we had one of these near us at home. Our server really made the experience (sorry I can't remember his name). He had a great sense of humor and never left us hanging for extra salsa or chips. We've been here several times and it's very good. There aren't a lot of good places to eat nearby. Our first visit was in the old location which was small and very busy. By the next visit, they had moved to the current location which holds a lot more people. Chips and two dips are brought to each table. And the chips are unlimited. The red dip is a spicy salsa. The white dip is almost like ranch but a little different. It looks like queso, but it isn't. I've tried taco salad, quesadillas, chalupa, enchilada, and chimichangas. The taco salad was light on meat, but otherwise they've all been great. We keep going back for more! read more
