The place has a hole in the wall vibe and was not busy on the evening I stopped by. I received a serving of chips and salsa up front, and decided to compliment them with a horchata that I did not need, but which immediately convinced me that this place uses some proper ingredients based on its slightly bubblegum-like taste that is distinctive to the region. My pupusas came with an excellent set of accompaniments and were bursting with flavor. The cheese was a bit on the salty side, but the beans were delicious, and the distinctive mix of textures you get when you combine a freshly grilled pupusa with the lightly fermented cabbage distinctive to the cuisine is excellent. There were some herbal notes in there, and the salsa was brightly flavored. It really is a fascinating mix of flavors distinctive to the Americas. Also a lot of food for the money. While the menu had a handful of vegetarian options, some of their staples were not offered this way and it seemed to be they could be with ease. And I would really like to see them do some dairy-free options and those beans and some vegetables would make a pupusa that I think people would want. read more

Run don't walk, Radford!! Compared to what I have eaten here in Radford during my previous stays, this is a godsend! Authentic homemade flavors served with smiles! Cute unassuming spot off of West Main St, I was greeted warmly by the hostess. The service was quick and soon I found myself staring down Al pastor tacos. We ordered the sweet plantains and al pastor tacos and the pork gorditas. Everything was generously stuffed with meat! The plantains we soft and sweet though a few were slightly burnt but overall they were a treat. The corn tortillas didn't hold up to the generous portion of meat in the Al pastor tacos but the flavors were there. My only complaint is that there isn't a good spicy red or green salsa to pour on top, but this is a Salvadoran place so I'm sure that's more the specialty. The gorditas were fat and satisfying. All in all, this is a gem of a place for Radford and if you feel like it would be a little new for you, take the plunge! It's a must try. read more

This was a random stop for us as we traveled down 81 and were looking for something to eat. The reviews are right....this is a great restaurant! It doesn't have an expansive menu, but I think there is something for everyone. We tried the plantains and horchata, as recommended in other customer reviews and were not disappointed. I'd also add the Salvadoran tamale to that list of recommendations. In addition we had the burria tacos, cheese pupusa and cheese & beef pupusas. Amazing! We happened to choose this place on our way from PA back to SC. It is not far off 81 and definitely worth the 8-10 min detour. The chips and salsa were delicious. Fantastic place. My daughter goes to Virginia Tech and in two years had not found a restaurant we loved until we ended up at Latino's Taste. Fantastic experience, all around. Start with the very friendly and helpful server, who I am guessing is the owner. His enthusiasm got me expecting a great meal from the start and I wasn't disappointed. Our table shared the fried plantains, probably the best I've ever had. They were perfectly ripe and I never had them so caramelized before. They were so sweet it tasted like they had sugar on them (luckily I ordered them with sour cream for dipping, otherwise it would have been too sweet). The pupusas were also excellent. I had beef and cheese and they had both a good flavor but also over flowing with fillings. I also treated one of my pupusas for my daughter's birria taco, it was also great. Tender and flavorful meat. This is now my favorite place in the entire Blacksburg-Radford-Christiansburg region (plus a good place to avoid the crowds on football weekends). read more

I had to vomit what I ate yesterday. The free chips were disgusting as well as the salsa. They were definitely not fresh. I told him not to apply the cheese sauce on my Arroz con pollo, but he left my table not even fully paying attention to my request. Of course, the cheese sauce was served poured on my dish. I am not coming back to this restaurant for Mexican food in Radford, a dead city. I will rather take a short trip to Charlottesville for a famous taco truck there when I have time. We were driving through on 81 and our daughter was hungry and is always up for Mexican food. Yelp showed us this place and I was surprised at all the reviews! Radford is a fairly small town but I guess with the popularity Mexican food and the two universities in the area.... Anyhow it is definitely a hole in the wall mom and pop place. They specialize in Salvadoran and Mexican cuisine. I didn't really read the reviews first so didn't heed the warning on sizes so we ordered an immense amount of food. We got it all to go and planned to eat it on the go. I do not recommend this! I don't know that anything is handheld friendly and the steaming in the containers is not great for many of their offerings and just makes things soggy. Obviously no deductions on points for my poor choices. We got the Salvadoran chicken tamales, cinnamon sugar plantains, beef, bean and cheese, and cheese pupusas and the chicken fajita nachos. I've had and made plenty of tamales and know how much work they are and while I liked the chicken in theirs I felt they were overall a little too wet for my taste. Maybe that is the difference between Salvadoran tamales and Mexican ones but I've made tamales in banana leaves and they haven't turned out that wet. The also used the frozen pea, carrot and bean mix in them which is just not my jam. Orders of the pupusas are really generous and come with I believe two pupusas. My daughter felt they were a bit bland without the salsa. She had the cheese and the bean and cheese. I split the beef and cheese with my husband and I really enjoyed ours and like the stringiness of the cheese. Of course the fried plantains were good but I can't say I've ever had bad fried plantains, except for the ones I made at home myself that were shite. The star though was the basic chicken fajita nachos that were generous with all the toppings and had a great cheese sauce. Everything came with salsa but it didn't have much taste. I'd go back again a eat there but mainly because of the bland salsa & wet tamales I'm going with 4 stars for now. read more

I felt so excited about this place after reading Yelp reviews. It's not a chain, and the food is allegedly authentic Salvadoran. I say allegedly because I have no point of comparison. Paul I decided to split a Salvadoran tamale, I ordered the chicken pupusas, and Paul ordered the pork pupusas. The pupusas are pretty much corn pancakes stuffed with cheese and meat. There was plenty of cheese, but I could not taste the chicken. It was okay, as was the tamale. I have definitely had better tamales. I enjoyed the slaw that accompanied the tamale and the pupusas. If you like sauerkraut, it will be right up your alley. All and all it was an okay experience. 2.5 stars rounded up to 3 thanks to fast service and a down-to-earth atmosphere. read more

We will definitely make this place a regular stop every time we are in Radford. We tried many things on the menu- Salvadoran tamale, Mexican tamale, fried yucca, tacos and pupusas. I can't stop thinking about the shrimp pupusa! So flavorful and accompanied by a cabbage slaw. The yucca was pretty special too. My husband loved his pork tacos. We ordered the chicken pupusas, pork pupusas, El Salvadoran tamales, and Mexican tamales. The Mexican tamales were amazing and definitely worth coming back for! Everything else as sub par. Pupusas were oily, and not very flavorful. I am used to pupusas being served with a fermented slaw and a tomato sauce. This only came with the fermented slaw, and then salsa on the side that was not great. I've definitely had better pupusas and probably would never order them again here. But would be willing to try other menu items, such as the nachos. read more

I see a lot of Latinx people eating here which makes me believe that it is pretty authentic comfort food. Delicious pastor tacos and carne asada tacos. Loved the chicken and the pork quesadillas as well. First time I have tried fried yucca. It was delicious and reminiscent of potato wedges.
