When you think of good Mexican food, usually Beaver, WV does not come to mind. However, I was pleasantly surprised at the quality and taste of the food! I grew up in Tucson, AZ and I have travelled to Mexico many times. When it comes to authentic Mexican food, most (but not all) restaurants that are not close to our Southern border cater to American tastes. Pro Tip #1: If you want authentic Mexican tacos, they should be using soft shell corn tortillas and be topped with cilantro and onions with lime wedges on the side to squeeze on top. Look for the terms "street tacos" or "authentic tacos" and make sure they are topped with cilantro and onions. Pro Tip #2: If you like hot salsa, most Mexican restaurants will have it, but you have to ask if they have any hot salsa in the back. I ordered the Tacos Al Pastor (which is pork with spices and pineapple). They come on soft shell corn tortillas and are topped with cilantro and onions and have lime wedges on the side. Yay! I also ordered a lime margarita on the rocks with salt. The tacos were very good! I would order them again! My waiter was friendly and called me "corazón," which was sweet. Unfortunately, I accidentally found myself in Beaver, WV after having to avoid the last toll on the WV Turnpike, so I likely won't be able to come back to this restaurant. However, if I ever find myself back in this small town again, I will absolutely come back to El Mariachi! read more

I loved this charming restaurant located in a simple neighborhood. The warm, welcoming atmosphere immediately put me at ease. The service was exceptional; I was able to speak comfortably in Spanish with the friendly waiter, which made the experience even more enjoyable. I was pleasantly surprised to discover such a vibrant and inviting place, so far from my home. My quesadilla was vegetarian, stuffed with a generous mix of fresh, crunchy vegetables like bell peppers, mushrooms, and onions, and it was absolutely delicious. Finding options with truly fresh veggies is usually challenging, so this was a delightful discovery. I would love to visit again if I ever return to the area. read more

Excellent food. Great service. The staff were quick and efficient. Our server checked on us more than once and refilled our drinks without us needing to ask. Happen to be driving through and stopped for street style tacos. The asada/steak tacos have chorizo in them. I wouldn't have chosen that but I wasn't mad about it because they were delicious! Their salsa was delicious with the tacos. The perfect amount of heat and great flavor. The tacos have a generous portion of meat, you could easily spilt some of the meat with the other tortillas since each taco has two corn tortillas. El Mariachi is a local favorite and although the outside doesn't look like much the inside is truly like stepping into a Mexican cantina. Although I had been here a number of times over the years, I was pleasantly surprised to see the new and unique selections of entrees. My favorite was the Vegetarian burrito; this is gigantic, as in the mother of all burritos! Not only is there no way you could be hungry after eating this but it's exploding with flavors of roasted corn, fajita veggies, seasoned rice, and Queso fundido! There are several reasons why this is the best Mexican Restaurant in the Beckley area. Jose and his team are top-notch! There could not be a better ambassador for local businesses! During times of despair in the area, he is almost always the first to provide relief! They are so community-minded and do so much, with so little to help the community. This is a small business that does really big things! They host a lot of fundraisers to help individuals in need. I just can't say enough about how Awesome Jose and his team are! We were all starving after leaving Winterplace and the kids love Mexican. We were greeted immediately and brought chips and salsa by a very friendly greeter/server. It was awful. I had a combo comprising a burrito, enchilada and relleno. The burrito and the enchilada were identical except for the length...I mean IDENTICAL, under-spiced hamburger with a canned sauce and a light sprinkling of cheese. The relleno was a smear of the same hamburger mix that was in the burrito/enchilada, covered with cheese and then broiled into a flat, greasy blob. What happened to the pablano? To get that you have to order the "TRADITIONAL" relleno. Instead of the pictured coconut drink with the slices of tropical fruit and an umbrella, I received a coconut-tasting sumthin' in an ice tea tumbler, and it darn near doubled the price of my dinner. Some alcohol in the drink would have been nice. This was the worst Mexican meal I have ever had. read more

We have been regular customers here since day one and the food for the most part has been great. Recently we ate here and received BAD food and BAD customer service. They really only have one Great Server but unfortunately we didn't get him this time. We got an older server that didn't seem to either understand us or just didn't care. My wife's order was not what she had ordered so it got sent back. The server brought back to the table what appeared to be what was ordered except for the METAL ring that almost broke my wife's tooth! When she told the server about it all he did was take the metal ring ( appeared to be a hog ring use to seal beef that comes in a tube) and walked away Only to avoid our table and continued to serve a drunk /loud mouth golfer from Glade. When paying for the meal only thing that wasn't charged for was her food but Still NO apology. For my Family safety we will not eat there again and Suggest you Don't either! read more

My family and I come from Orlando, and LOVE our Mexican place at home. We had a Mexican craving and decided to come here. It's typical Mexican for a great price. They have really awesome food, not too hot but still has a nice amount of spice to it. Their cheese isn't thick like traditional queso, that was disappointing. Absolutely my favorite Mexican restaurant ever. I have tried close to 90% of the items on the menu. And there has been only one item that I wasn't happy with. The greatest Mexican dish of all time is served here. The Quesadilla San Jose! Order it extra spicy with spicy quest on top. This is a giant chipotle burrito, stuffed to the max with steak, chorizo, and chicken. All that soaked in Colorado sauce! It is so good. And it will curb even the biggest appetite. The staff is top notch. Nice group of people that are very attentive and friendly. Make us feel like we are family. The prices are affordable. Always clean. Tonight my wife and I decided to try this restaurant because everyone talked about how great it was. I didn't see where it was so outstanding. There was nothing wrong with the restaurant it was just your average Mexican restaurant. There was quick and excellent service. When the host walked us to our table the chips and salsa showed up immediately. The salsa was quite spicy as I like it, it did contain cilantro which I am NOT a big fan of. but other than that it was probably the best salsa I have ever gotten at a Mexican restaurant. I ordered fried beef chimichangas and they came quickly but they were not any different than chimichangas I have eaten at other Mexican restaurants. The only complaint I have is the food was not as hot as most Mexican restaurants serve their food. I would recommend this restaurant just don't get your expectations too high when visiting. read more

I have to agree with Lee of El Cerrito CA on a pin point review. The menu is obviously produced by the corporate chain, so they don't have the advertised high end Margaritas with fresh mixers, but when you're not in a place like southern CA that has such a large Mexican cultural influence, this is as good as it gets. The owner and the wait staff are far above any service we would receive at any Mexican food restaurant at home, so they get a 5 on running a restaurant and a 4 for the food and drink for WV. So glad they're here! If the tables were turned and we were reviewing biscuits and gravy in CA there would be no comparison, WV wins! read more
