Poor service. Food is eh, aka the pancakes (only) were good/freshly made. Poor management. Cleanliness needs help. Upon coming in, already had a bad start.. No one to help up front, nor greet us. You walk in and it looks like a convenient store with snacks and drinks, with exception of their baked goods. Cluttered when you come in, doesn't look dirty but doesn't look that clean either. Menu contains breakfast & lunch items : omelettes, pancakes, sandwiches, wraps,salads, drinks, etc. About 5-10 minutes after coming in, someone (who speaks very poorly) tries to take our order. We decided on : The Sandwich, Breakfast Burrito, The BIG Plate, and Short Stack of Pancakes. *The Sandwich - choice of ham, bacon or sausage, with cheese, 2 eggs on toast or bagel. - Was not asked the kind of meat and when we asked for bagel they've mistaken it for an extra order of bagel. *Burrito - breakfast style with potatoes, ham, 2 eggs, house salsa and cheese wrapped in a tortilla. - This is the dish we found the black hair in, folded into the tortilla (to be continued, keep reading...) *The BIG Plate - 2 eggs any style, steak ham, 2 pancakes, house potatoes, and toast. - Was not asked the style of eggs. *Short Stack of Pancakes - 3 pancakes *Coffee & Water - was told to get it our selves. I had to re-ask and repeat the order because she was definitely not helpful in ordering or making sure she got it even right. I guess you're suppose to order and then sit yourself wherever but you wouldn't know that because no one tells you how things work, and suppose to guess or question everything yourself. Sat outside because of the better view. You're over looking the little bay, soaking up the sun, I guess the second "ok" thing of the place. About 10 mins of sitting down, the same waitress that took the order, brought out a cup of coffee, which we already got because we were told to get it ourselves! She walks away after noticing the cup of coffee. Then she brings out condiments & utensils, but places the utensils right on the dirty table. My sister noticed some rustiness on the forks. Cups for coffee and water that they made us get ourselves were pretty dirty too. I am emphasizing getting shit ourselves because she was serving the other people! Waitress comes out once more asking if we had two orders of bagels. I said, no the bagel was for the Sandwich. She tells me to go in and tell the cooks! W T F... Food comes a little shortly after that. Presentation looks ok. Only hot thing on our plates were the pancakes. Coffee was cold. Potatoes were cold but also taste like it was made earlier that morning and pushed aside on the grill for later use. Ham was moist but also cold. We never received our toasts with the meals. Or received the extra potatoes for the kids (which wasn't charged). We didn't see our whole experience getting worst, buuuut it did. Maybe 3/4 of my sister eating her burrito, she finds a hair jammed and rolled in the tortilla. Black hair-- my mom, sister and I have blonde or brown hair. Of course we wanted to address it right away but had to wait some more up front for someone to accommodate us. The owner comes up to ring us up. She asks us what we got so she can ring us up. But wait don't you hair our order ticket? I then address the hair in the burrito. I said there's a black hair stuck right in the burrito. She tears apart the little burrito, asking where, and if that was it left over from the burrito. She keeps moving her hands opening the burrito asking where the hair was. I told her it was stuck right in the tortilla crease which obviously was there upon making it (see pictures)! She completely disregarded my complaint, throwing away the burrito because she "didn't really see it". I informed her that I have a picture of the hair. And then she said ok. She even tried to add that it was our fault and it was our hair. The three workers there, including herself, has black hair. AND none of them were wearing hairnets. I mean what kind of customer service is that? I am NEVER the one to ask for anything free, but if I find someone else's hair our food all I ask for is take in consideration what had just happened. At least try to care and try to apologize for what just happened. I've seriously never met any manager or owner act the way she did for what's obviously their fault. I'm not from here, but this is not the first complaint about the manager per other Yelp reviews. I would never come back nor would I recommended anyone in visiting this place. read more

We were lucky and missed the brunch rush, had the place all to ourselves. I wish it hadn't been so windy, we might have enjoyed the patio but inside was very nice. I had a delicious tuna melt- only places that get their fish really fresh dare to offer it- and it was amazing. Really large sandwich. Husband had an omelet, both had a generous amount of cheese and were wonderful. We talked to the server about our boat trip the next day (with no refrigeration in between) and left with a to-go bag of challah bread and artichoke tapenade, which was perfect for a traveling lunch. This place is a hidden gem. Right on the water (canals of the Coronado Cays) it's an upscale sandwich shop with an amazing beer selection (they have Delirium Tremens!--the beer), good food, outside waterside seating & really nice staff. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area. read more

I rarely post reviews, and usually when I do they are because I am so impressed by the food and service. Unfortunately, this is a different story. My friend and I visited because she wanted to enjoy a nice breakfast in Coronado- her last one in SD before moving to Portland. I made my order clear and simple. She repeated it incorrectly and I corrected her. Our food arrives and it is wrong- the order she originally wrote down even though she had grabbed a new ticket and wrote it over. We then had to ask for the toast that came with the plate...she brought out only one set (we ordered two plates) of BREAD, not toast. How was the food? Eehh- below average. Ok, well, let's see... I called ahead to make sure that they accepted pets in their restaurant and said that they they did. Perfect! We said we are on our way. Now when we got there, a lady said "can I help you?!". I said yes, but we have a dog and I called to let you know that I was bringing him with us. She said just go around the building to the back we have a covered patio. Perfect! Not sure why this place has 4 stars 2 was a stretch. Honestly can't figure this place out. the menu is all over the place a little Italian a bit Mediterranean some Mexican and American. Great location but the food was mediocre. I got a Cobb salad...blah a bunch of iceberg lettuce not even nicely chopped the chicken was ok the rest super bland and some weird basaltic dressing on it. Not a fan. My husband got a meat lovers omelet and it was also edible but nothing to write home about. Just thinking that if I had prime property in such a great location I would 1. A Nice Little Oasis on The Silver Strand. Relax and Enjoy Discovered this place from the security guard at the entrance to Coronado Cays. Was looking for a place to get a coke after a long bike ride from Chula Vista and up the Silver Strand. There isn't much on the Strand unless you want to go to a fancy place at Loews Resort. The Proprietress Hanan is very accommodating and friendly. Got a nice tall coke (made from Cane Sugar, not Corn Syrup) and a hamburger with a tangy orange mayo sauce and fries with a slice of tomato. Pretty decent. (I need to go back and try some fish and Mediterranean dishes to give a fair review, as I'm not normally a beef eater - it just sounded good a the time, what with my huge cycling appetite). Sat out front, near the large pots of herbs vegetables and flowers she keeps (and uses for her cooking), and chatted with some elderly local folks. Sounds like it took some determination to get through all the red tape and go from a kiosk out front to a little cafe. You have to admire her determination. read more

Okay, I have to write another review because we ended up purchasing our wedding dessert from this place. We ordered an alternative dessert in place of the cake; baklava because it is our favorite. Hannah made up 5 trays (about 250 pieces) of the delicious goodness. Everyone has said it was the best baklava they have ever had. Not too sweet, it was just perfect. We will be stopping by Calypso's for years to come. Hannah should make baklava part of her everyday menu. read more

Everyone is so nice here! This is a small mom and pop cafe that serves breakfast lunch and dinner at very reasonable prices. We've eaten breakfast here almost every day this week. We stay at the Loews Coronado Bay down the street. The lox bagels is great and so are the egg dishes, and fruit! The owner (Hannan) will also try to make anything that you ask if they have it. She is beyond great and very friendly and personable. We would have never found this place unless a local boater didnt tell us about it. Definitely put it in the navigation as it is tucked away! read more

Came here last weekend with a group on Friday afternoon - we had been biking for about 3 hours before we made our way over. The owner was SO incredibly wonderful to us - her and the staff welcomed us with open arms and even baked us fresh cookies on the house! Mind you, we were a group of 15! You don't really get to see that kind of warmth & service lately at places so our experience here was wonderful. :) And of course, the view was great as well! I ordered the BLT and it was delicious (granted I was in starvation mode due to the bike ride!!) but still, it's all homemade goodness! I hate to give a small place like this a poor review, but this was a huge disappointment for us. My fiancee and I woke up late on a Saturday and found this location on Yelp with great ratings. We knew there was no way we could get breakfast quickly at any decent place in the city, so this seemed like a decent substitute. The secluded location in the Cays is nice, and indoor seating was basically empty. I ordered an Iced Mocha and my fiancee ordered an orange juice. The mocha came out fairly quickly, and was notably bad. The orange juice didn't come out until after the meal once I reminded them that it never came, which is was especially frustrating considering I'm pretty confident that it was just poured from a bottle. I ordered a breakfast burrito with with sausage substituted for ham and added avocado. The sausage was there, the avocado was not. Homemade salsa was included and it was slightly above average. My fiancee ordered a bacon and cheese breakfast sandwich on wheat bread, and it was just bland. We spend a lot of time in the Cays, so it's upsetting to know that we won't be back here. read more

Very cute and quiet place on the docks at the south end of Coronado. The service and breakfast was just ok, but I think the best thing about this place that is worth the stop is the ambiance. If you're in the area, give it a try, but I wouldn't go out of my way to return and don't set your expectations too high. The food was average and the latte was so hot the beans tasted burnt. The service wasn't like a typical sit down restaurant, so if you're expecting to have your dishes cleaned up when your done, coffee brought to you, or anyone to check in on you after you get your food, I would try somewhere else. read more

Utterly Amazed! I am a foodie and know good food when I tatse it. This is wothout doubt, the best italian food I have eaten in San Diego. PERIOD! The chef is Italian, the wait staff is Italian, and the food is as authentic Italian as I have seen outside of italy. All made from scratch with fine ingredients, at times, made to order outside of the menu! The owner is a sweetheart and goes beyond for her customers. Outstanding! Fantastic restaurant. Order at the front and get served. Very quaint on the water with a calm quiet. Service was fantastic and everyone was friendly. My Husband and I got the islander and Greek omelette, which were super thick, fluffy, and delicious. Even their potato side was sooo good. I'm really glad we found this place and we'll def be back. When the blackout came upon us, I was happy to have them close by to grab something quick for the evening. I didn't feel like cooking in the dark.
