I had an attic space that needed an overhaul. The walls were finished, but the carpet floor was installed over the original attic floor, which was very squeaky, and had high/low spots big enough to cause an office chair to roll away. The old insulation didn't provide much of a sound barrier, and the ceiling joists transferred a lot of motion through the floor (it was "bouncy"). After carefully planning out the project with Carlo, the Caly team came in and ripped up the old floorboards, put down new insulation, built up the existing joists and put in a new strong and level subfloor. Then over the new subfloor they installed beautiful hardwood, complete with new hardwood stair treads and handrail leading up to the attic space. As well as being skilled craftsmen, all of the Caly crew were very polite and respectful of my home. The office/admin team was awesome - calling to check in on progress and quickly notifying me of any changes to the schedule or asking for my input on a decision. read more

Scheduled an estimate and it was higher than another company but they were willing to meet the lower price so I scheduled an appointment for our hardwood floors. Had estimates done for carpet and paint for after the floors was completed. The carpet estimate was double most companies and the painting estimate was great. Upon trying to schedule the painting job I was informed there was a deposit. I was never informed about this and this is days after my appointment with them to do the floor work was already scheduled and confirmed. Since I'm using my paychecks to pay I would have never wasted my time if I had known. I immediately got in contact with the company I canceled with to give this company a try and they didn't require any deposit and finished the job the next week. Not a great experience. read more

This was the best service experience we have had so far with a new house. We contacted Jose and he came the next day for an estimate and started work the following day. We paid less for the whole house than what a competitor was asking for two bedrooms. Jose was always friendly, kind, and honest. The floors (two bedrooms, a set of stairs, living room, sunroom) were done in 3 partial days. There was significant damage/stain on some of the floors and these are all fixed. I have never felt so strongly about writing a review before but here we are. If you are looking for a company that will keep you updated, communicate with you about your project, and not try to screw you over--this is not the company. It got so bad that I ended up having to terminate the contract and spend more money hiring someone else to take over. First, we asked the owner when we had to move out during the flooring process. The owner said move out by the end of the second day. So we planned on doing that. On the first morning, I went out for a vet appointment with our two dogs and communicated that to the guys. I came back two hours later and there was no floor or any plywood. The guys left. I couldn't get in the house nor could my partner come downstairs from the office upstairs due to there being no floor. After multiple texts and calls, finally, we got an answer two hours later (me sitting outside in the car with two dogs). After I explained that we couldn't even get inside the house or leave the house. They said ok, we will come back at 4:30 PM to put down two pieces of plywood down so we could go in and pack up (because we can't stay in a house with no first floor floor). So I ended up sitting outside in the car for six hours with two dogs, missing a day worth of work. And had to pay for an extra night of air bnb. Second, they broke a water pipe the next day and didn't email us until after we saw water flowing on our ring camera and called/texted about it. They said they'd repair it--and they did. But they didn't reimburse us for the damaged boxes, only the damaged DVD player. They could have gotten the boxes out of the way of the pipe as soon as it broke but they left it for hours until we came back to the basement to move the boxes. Third, I only found out recently contractors are not allowed to ask for a half deposit upfront, only a 1/3 deposit, in the state of Maryland. They did that to me and told me it was because they needed to order materials. So I paid the half deposit upfront a few weeks before the project started. On day 1, after ripping up the floor, they then sent an email asking for a few thousand of dollars more to repair some areas. They asked "why" when we asked them to come explain to us/show us what was wrong. We understand that things happen during a renovation sometimes but to ask for a lot more of money and not even try to explain or point things out was very frustrating to us. After much back and forth, the owner finally came to explain the issues. We went with it, mostly because they had our deposit and the owner said they would do a better job of communicating with us. Fourth, on the very last day before they were supposed to install the actual floor- we got an email in the afternoon that the materials would not arrive on time so they had to delay the project by a week or so while waiting for the wood. After asking them when they ordered the wood, they told me they didn't order the wood until 2-3 days before the project started (but I paid a few weeks in advance because they said they needed to order materials). So we had to spend even more money on trying to find a place to stay at the last minute during this delay that was entirely their fault. Fifth, and the final straw, they came back a week later and told us they were going to install the floor but instead they installed fireplace tile that we never approved. When we raised the issue with them, they still wanted to charge us for it. When asked about why they proceeded but never asked for our approval of the tile they would use, they said they thought it matched the mantle color best. Their opinion was never shared with us until after the fact. Regardless of their opinion, we are the ones living there so we should make that decision- not them. So at that point we ended the relationship and hired someone else to install the hardwood floor. I am not a flooring expert but I do think that their work in removing the floor and installing the subfloor was good- the floor was level in the end. (Although they never explained that leveling the floor would then cause issues with the rise of the stairs and the baseboards being uneven without removal.) It was just the anguish and unnecessary expenses/time spent on trying to get some communication or consideration about this project that was truly awful. I highly DO NOT recommend this company and suggest people to look into their licensure status if you are considering them as a possible option. read more

I had a relatively small job of needing our wooden stairs to be re-finished and Caly Floors came through with flying colors. A crew of three arrived early one morning and with cheerful efficiency sanded, stained and replaced the missing shoe moulding for the flight of stairs in our Cape Cod house. It all happened in one day and the oak wood steps look great - better than I expected. Plus, the crew was meticulous in cleaning up the dust and debris (putting up plastic sheeting while sanding to make sure it would not spread throughout the house). Caly Floors did a remarkable job installing beautiful new hardwood flooring in my kitchen and refinishing my existing hardwood floor to match, all at a very competitive price. I highly recommend Caly Floors, including for their excellent customer service when things go haywire. a couple of caveats to avoid problems are: 1) remove anything off your walls in advance, like mirrors and paintings, that you value because installing new flooring can vibrate the whole house and potentially cause them to fall; and 2) be careful to give the work crew an outside working hose to wash their rags and equipment. I didn't think about giving them an outside wash arena so they ended up washing out their rags out in my toilet, accidentally flushing one down the drain and plugging it. They brought out a crew the next day and promptly removed the sewage plug, but it was messy and inconvenient. Jose, the crew boss, was immensely helpful, courteous and understanding, and took care of all my concerns. read more
