I went for takeout. I got the shrimp bowl and it was really good. I just hated that the jarritos was $5 bucks . But the food was well seasoned . And they give you just enough of food . The shrimp though was over cooked and super small . But the servers were very nice and it's a cute spot to sit in too . I think I would go back and try something different

Lunch special with fish taco and pulled pork

Stumbled in on this restaurant after being hungry and looking for absolutely anything to eat. I did not expect to be so pleasantly surprised. I got their lunch special which is two tacos of your choice which also comes with a small chips and guac as well as rice and beans OR a salad. I tried their pork and fish taco and I was blown away because the fish taco was so good. It made me wish I got two of those instead. Its a piece of fried fish cooked to perfection. The lunch special size is also no joke, I was not able to finish everything and the tacos are so large I was so full after eating my tacos alone. Looking at the salad that they offered, it wasnt your typical sad salad that they give you either, it was filled with roasted corn and beets. Such a great find and I will be coming back here again in the future.

Came here on a Friday night around 6 pm was able to walk in and be seated right away table for two. We did have to wait five mins before seating even though there was no one else waiting. Very clean open space. Our waitress was attentive. We got the Brussels sprouts appetizer amazing but it does have a spicy kick after so if spice isn't your thing maybe another app. I got the black bean tacos and pollo asada tacos which were tasty.

We came here for a lowkey lunch and it was fantastic! I especially loved the barbacoa taco and the guacamole. Service was fast and friendly and the lunch special was very reasonably priced. I can't wait to come back again next time I visit!

Such a cute little restaurant on 5th ave. We stopped in for drinks chips and salsa at the bar and it was a fun experience. The bartender was very engaging with all those seated at the bar and all the food that kept going by smelt delicious. I will come back to try their dinner for sure.

I stopped here after grabbing a few books at "the ripped bodice" down the block. It was recommended by someone who worked there. Service was great. We got there right before brunch ended and got a two for one mimosa special, which were good and i tried one with grapefruit juice that I loved. I ordered Brussel sprouts for an appetizer. The texture was perfect but I found the vinaigrette to be toooo vinegary. It made them taste kinda sour and tangy, i still at quite a bit but i need to salt and pepper to kinda off set. I also had shrimp taco which were very good. The star of the show was the beef that was in my sister's burrito bowl. Like we talked about it for days after. Highly recommend (i believe she got Cali style)

Tostada Salad

I've been to Calexico several times and am never disappointed by the food. It's dependable cali-mex, and I always leave full and satisfied! I typicall get the tostada salad (which is deceptively filling!!), and this time tried the smoked queso, which was delish! My friend got an assortment of tacos (fish, shrimp, chicken), and enjoyed all of them! Their drink menu looks delicious - an assortment of margaritas and other cocktails, all reasonably priced (less that $15). While I've only been here in the daytime, I would totally come back in the evening for some margs and chips and gossip with a girlfriend!! The restaurant is very cute and a nice place to hang with friends, family, or colleagues! The people working there have always been very kind to me.

Everything was fresh and flavorful. I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of vegetarian options. The service was quick and the staff were kind. The restaurant is large and can accommodate larger parties well. I came with a 15+ group. I definitely recommend stopping by Calexico in Park Slope.

Nachos, esquites, smoked queso

Came in on a whim. I was in mood for coconut margarita...it wasn't on menu but they made it happen. We ordered esquites, nachos and smoked queso....they were all fabulous. Will definitely return for more!!!

The food is amazing here. I sat at the bar on a SUNDAY and it was not crowded at all. Quesadillas are great! Service is amazing.

Incredibly yummy tacos all around! Only con is the drinks are small and a bit overpriced. Prepare to wait when you walk-up so plan ahead!

As an example, the menu says a Shrimp taco is $6. Is this for 1 taco or 2?

All of the prices are for one taco.

Sitting at the bar, it was only me one other patron and the bartender (with the host nearby). Had a great time talking, it was a slow day so we all really had a great time. I went with the white queso ($8) from the HH menu and then tried the fried cauliflower($9). They were good, breaded thickly with a great spicy sauce. All went great with a beer on tap, whatever was on HH that day.

Conveniently located near Union Square/14th Street on the Lexington Avenue Line, Javelina is fairly easy to get to from Brooklyn, the Bronx and Manhattan. The restaurant itself is downstairs from the street, but not quite a basement. There is a bar when you first enter on the left, and tables back to the kitchen. The space is usually quite loud, and it can be a bit cramped at times. Don't be surprised if you find yourself raising your voice a bit to keep up. Upon seating, you will (eventually) be offered chips and salsa, and someone will take your drink order. Things can take a bit of time here, especially at busy times, so do not expect the top tier of restaurant service by any stretch of the imagination. The menu features fajitas, and I cannot imagine ordering anything else. The queso is a lovely appetizer, though the trio feels a bit small for the price. If you order fajitas, you will notice another shortcoming of this restaurant, the tables can feel a bit cramped. This is something that comes with the territory in Manhattan dining but do not feel surprised if you end up having to rearrange things on your table to accommodate a delicious platter of sizzling fajitas. The fajitas themselves are fine, and probably the most consistent I've found here in the city. I would not be surprised if there were better places for fajitas elsewhere but in my research this seemed like the best option. Requests have been missed before in my experience (I recall ordering a certain salsa that never came) and because the waiters seem a bit overwhelmed, it hard to address it before you'd want to eat. Overall, this place will scratch the itch for fajitas, but the service is lacking. I'll probably find myself wanting fajitas again in the future and return, but every time I visit I find myself just a little bit disappointed that a good restaurant is not great.

Our reservation was for 8:30pm, but we arrived early and Alejandra, the hostess, was incredibly welcoming and accommodating. Even though she was ready to seat us, we decided to hang at the bar until the rest of our party arrived and that was the perfect move. Alkarys behind the bar was top-tier. She recommended the Siempre Reposado, and let me tell you... smooth, clean, dangerously good. If you're into tequila, that's a must. Now let's talk about the food. We ordered the quesadilla, rajas, tamales, tacos, and the queso fundido and every single dish hit. The queso fundido came out bubbling, rich, perfectly melted with that pull you want when you scoop it up. The tamales were moist and packed with flavor, wrapped beautifully and clearly made with care. The rajas had that perfect balance of roasted pepper sweetness and savory depth. The tacos? Authentic, well-seasoned, and layered with flavor, no shortcuts. Even the quesadilla stood out, crispy on the outside with that perfectly melted interior. Everything felt traditional, elevated but still true to its roots. You can taste the authenticity. Service was attentive without being overbearing, the ambiance was super casual and laid back, the kind of Brooklyn spot you pull up to for a real dinner experience, not just a quick bite. Highly recommend this place if you're out and about in Brooklyn. Definitely coming back for the tequila, the queso fundido, and round two of those tacos. I'm gonna try eating at the bar to check out the spot in the front of the house.

3.5 stars My friends…read morehad been raving about Lobo for years. It was their neighborhood spot that they would frequent themselves, but also the place to which they would bring all of their guests. After turning down several opportunities to join them in the far off land of Brooklyn, I finally agreed to make the trek and give the restaurant a shot. The Cobble Hill area was really charming, and Lobo was located on one of the main streets that was packed with restaurants, coffeeshops, and small retailers. When I arrived at Lobo, I did not see my friends in the bar area on the ground floor and was told to check the back garden. I found my group out in the quiet, cozy yard and joined them at the spacious table. The weather was a bit chilly, especially as the night wore on, and it was even raining at one point. However, there was a covering that completely shielded us from the elements. In addition, despite our being outside, the friendly staff was diligent about checking in and making sure we had everything we needed. Since my companions had been at the table for a bit by the time I had arrived, they already had beverages in front of them, so I needed to catch up. I ordered a house Margarita without specifying a particular brand of tequila. Even with their default spirit, the drink was very strong. It also used their homemade sour mix, which was, thankfully, more sour than it was sweet. Our drinks paired nicely with the complementary, spectacular tortilla chips and zesty salsa. When it came to my meal, I was unsure of what to order, since the reviews had been very mixed, most either being 5-stars or 2-stars with comments about items being "bland". I decided to go with the grilled Chicken Fajitas, which arrived on a standard plate, rather than a sizzling platter. While that was not a great sign, the chicken actually wound up being enjoyable and certainly not bland. Plus, it was not at all greasy, like fajitas can often be. Accompanying the poultry strips on the plate were freshly sauteed onions and green peppers, a mound of seasoned rice, and smoky refried beans, which were all tasty. I typically prefer black beans, which were not an option here, but the refried worked out well. Separately, I received a container of flour tortillas (though I wished they had soft corn ones) and a plate with guacamole, pico de gallo, serrano peppers, lettuce, shredded cheese, and sour cream. I agreed with some other reviewers that the guacamole was more like mashed avocado, as it was very under-seasoned. The pico was also oddly sweet, and the tomatoes were mushy. Despite these minor critiques, I found that the food surpassed my expectations that had been established from other reviews. I would be willing to make the trip to Lobo again in the future. **Note: The restaurant is cash only!

The second time, we started off with a Cactus salad which feels like an underrated dish. It was a heaping pile of sauteed cactus and chopped jalapenos over what most would consider a generic salad. But you know what, I enjoyed that touch for the texture . The cactus itself was packed with flavor with nice heat from the jalapenos. For my entree was the chicken fried chicken, a chicken breast cutlet smothered in gravy. This cutlet is what got me to write a review. They basically nailed it with the interior super juicy. It comes with two sides. Aromatic rice and beans and collard greens that accentuated the floral notes of the greens. This may have been a 4 star review but the price to quality ratio and friendly staff is what inspired me to bump it up. Will put this place in my regular rotation.
