We just moved to Tempe and our son from Dallas gave us a gift card for Caldwell BBQ. It was so good & the staff was so friendly & welcoming. My husband had pork ribs I had a brisket slider, our sides were the delicious corn casserole, coleslaw & pinto beans. So good. Andrew came over to see how we were enjoying our dinner & later introduced us to John who showed us how he was smoking the briskets in those huge smokers. They treated us like family. We'll definitely be back. read more

So glad we came here for dinner, it's certainly something to rave about. General Paton is a sandwich that has sausage, brisket and pulled pork. All the meat was juicy, tender and delish...the sides such as corn casserole, cold slaw, Mac and cheese and potato salad were equally tasty. Let me back up and and give you and over view starting from the beginning. Upon entering you will be greeted with food counter where you order. There wasn't a line when we were here so not much time for us to study the menu on the wall. Aside from sandwiches and sides, you can order the meat by the pound/family style. We ordered ours individually. The indoor dining are is large but most people headed outside where there's even a bigger dining area with string of lights hanging overhead, it's a cool country outdoor atmosphere with country music playing in the background. It smells heavenly here. In fact, we all had the BBQ smell on our clothes hours after. They have another location just opened only a few miles from here that serves all this plus tacos. We enjoyed our visit, everything is delicious. There wasn't a line when we were here so no waiting for us. We strongly recommend. read more

We ordered a family meal for lunch one day for the office and Caldwell's did not disappoint. We ordered ahead and when we got there our food was ready to go. Sadly we never got the bread or pickles that were supposed to come with the meal but the rest made up for it. The brisket was moist and tasty. The sides were great. The corn dish was a must get. So good. I will be ordering from here again in the future. read more

Cadwell County BBQ has the very best barbecue we've had and we have tried A LOT! Moses' gave us exemplary customer service & Addison was kind enough to give us a little bit of BBQ education in terms of how they do their BBQ product process using mesquite & pecan wood at the right levels of humidity. It's definitely working because their lean brisket, burnt ends, house sausage, ribs, mac & cheese, corn casserole, & pecan pie were epic! We also bought a bottle of house made tallow to cook with & some tallow lip balm that actually tastes natural & like not some petroleum product. On the way out, the pitmasters were kind enough to show us how they wrap the brisket, spraying it with pickle juice and then wrapping it in this butcher's paper so that it cooks a little hotter & steams a little bit to cook it through as well. Such a really nice group of people to get incredible food from. It was only our second time here and we can't wait to come back. Cheers & Happy eating! DocMikeChiro read more

Have eaten here a few times through various work lunches and husband bringing food back. I will say I'm not a huge BBQ fan so that's the main reason for the 4 stars, sometimes the flavors are a bit smoky or strong for me. But my husband loves everything and he's a big BBQ person. Their sides are really good and the portions are great. I haven't been inside a restaurant yet so I can't comment on the service or location but I've heard great things and people seem to really enjoy it. Good place for Homestyle BBQ and sides. read more

Ordered pickup and someone went over order with me before I left to make sure all items were delivered. Like the brisket!

Great BBQ & Even Better Service We recently visited our son in Phoenix and made the drive out to Gilbert for a family dinner at Caldwell County BBQ. What a great decision! This place has a fun, laid-back vibe that's perfect for relaxing and spending quality time with family. The line was long but moved quickly, and we were even offered samples while we waited--a great touch. We ordered a little of everything: fatty brisket, beef ribs, pork ribs, pulled pork, mac and cheese, and cornbread casserole. As a bit of a BBQ enthusiast, I was especially impressed with the beef ribs--absolutely top-notch. Everything was very good, with one exception: the pulled pork just didn't hit the mark for us. That said, the real standout of the evening was the service. Every single staff member we interacted with was exceptionally friendly and helpful, which really elevated the whole experience. Overall, this is a fantastic spot that we'd absolutely visit again. read more

Caldwell BBQ really delivered! The brisket was excellent--tender, smoky, and packed with flavor. The pork ribs were decent, not bad at all, but not the standout of the meal. The real surprise? The turkey. I expected it to be dry (because, well... turkey), but it was juicy and incredibly flavorful. Honestly one of the best smoked turkeys I've had. We sat outside and it was such a nice setup--clean, comfortable, and with a relaxed vibe. Staff were walking around checking in, asking if we needed anything, which made the whole experience feel really positive and welcoming. Definitely worth a stop if you're looking for solid BBQ with great service and atmosphere. read more

Great place! Family owned! Feels like visiting family in the Country!! Outdoor eating! Delicious food and wonderful service

Texas bbq is a real thing and these guys do it right. Their selection of meats is top notch. They also feature 3 different sauces that are all spectacular. Great indoor and outdoor seating but be aware the lunch hour is packed. I also recommend parking on the street in front as the back parking lot is hard to maneuver and usually full. Great bbq - in the top 2 for me in the East valley - highly recommend! read more

Our experience started before we even ordered our food. We simply asked Carl (a member of the pit staff) what type of wood was used to smoke the meat. That question turned into Carl proudly explaining the process from preparation, to smoking to plate and everything in-between. His enthuasism, artisanal detail, and forthrightness to answer our questions were extremely valued and appreciated. Carl went way beyond our expectations and set the tone for the rest of our meal. After conversing with Carl he walked us to the counter, introduced us to the staff making the plates and explaned the ordering process to us. We ordered several items on the menu so we we could each sample them. The brisket was exceptional... on point. Burnt ends were delicious. Sausage is a must to order. Absolutely incredible. Sides were lights out. The Mac and cheese was marvelous. Picnic perfect potato salad. Superb slaw and the corn casserole let's just say that we should have ordered a much larger size. We met Mason when we were checking out. His over the top customer service and genuine care for our satisfaction were greatly appreciated. As we were eating both Carl and Mason came over to see if we were enjoying our meal. We couldn't praise them enough. Everything about our visit was phenomenal. The food was delicious, the customer service by Carl, Mason and the rest of your employees was top notch. We look forward to visiting again and taking the pit class when we return to the valley. Thank you Caldwell County BBQ team!!! read more

Wow!!! The Best BBQ I've had in a long time! Caldwell County BBQ is located near the SanTan Village. We had found this restaurant on Yelp, looking for highly rated restaurants. It focuses on wood-smoked, Texas style BBQ classics. There is plenty of table seating inside the restaurant and outside the restaurant. My family and I ate lunch at Caldwell County BBQ around 11:30. It wasn't too busy at the time, but quickly picked up after 12:00. The heaters were turned on outside as we ate at Caldwell County BBQ during the December holidays. The menu includes a wide variety of BBQ such as smoked turkey breast, sliced prime brisket, pulled pork, sausage link, and smoked ribs. You can order the meat by the pound. There are also options for sandwiches which include 1/3 pound of meat on a Hawaiian roll and one individual side. The sides include the following Lemon Poppyseed Cole Slaw: A vinegar-based coleslaw with green and red cabbage and carrot slices. There is also a lemon zest, granny smith apples, and poppyseeds. Aunt Susan's Corn Casserole: Creamy cornbread that combines cornbread, sour cream, and hatch green chilies. Pinto Beans: Includes pulled pork, onions, and jalapenos Caldwell Potato Salad: Includes Yellow Potatoes with mustard, eggs, pickles, and sweet red peppers. Mac'N'Cheese: Multiple cheese and roasted green chilies. Side Salad: Fresh Greens, cucumbers, tomatoes, and BBQ ranch dressing. Everything is ready as soon as you get to the register to order your food. My family and I had picked the following East Side Pig ($12.00): 1/3 pound of pulled pork on a Hawaiian roll. Served with Mac-N-Cheese El General Patton ($17.00): 1/3 pound of chopped prime brisket, 1/3 pound of pulled pork, and 1/4 link of sausage on a Hawaiian roll. Pinto Beans. Extra pulled pork. There is a self-service station which you can acquire fountain drinks and any type of utensils needed. Sauces are provided by the team members. Bathrooms are located outside the restaurant next to their outdoor seating. All of the food was so good!! All of the meat was juicy and tender. It was so flavorful. My daughter enjoyed the mac'n'cheese. The Pinto beans were delicious! The pulled pork sandwich was scrumptious! I'd highly recommend this restaurant if you're looking for some amazing BBQ! If you're local to Phoenix Arizona or visiting, you need to try this restaurant out! read more

Good hearty meal very Texan style. Lots of customers. Casual space indoor and outdoor.

No joke, best bbq I've ever had in my life. Brisket had an amazing flavor and literally melted in my mouth. The sides were also phenomenal. Only complaint is that the location is a bit far out, but maybe that's for the better because otherwise I'd be there weekly. read more

Definitely a hidden gem! Our friends recommended Caldwell if we wanted some good bbq in Arizona so we had to stop by. So glad we came here for dinner. The food was delicious and a lot for 4 people to share. We got some brisket, ribs, and sausages with a few sides. The brisket was so tender and falling apart. The ribs had such good flavor and the sausage wasn't juicy. All the sides especially the corn casserole was amazing. I'm hungry just thinking about Caldwells. There's plenty of parking and they have tons of outdoor tables for you to enjoy your meal. Love the vibe here! read more

What a great new bbq find! We were in the area and as usual, I went to my trusted Yelp to find a good restaurant around there and found Caldwell. I had never heard of them before but saw the excellent reviews so decided to give them a try. We ordered to go. Our order was 1 lb of brisket, 1/2 lb of Turkey, 1 pint of Aunt Susan's corn casserole, 1 pint lemon poppyseed coleslaw and 1 small individual potato salad. The two wings were on the house which was a nice gesture. They were made on that day because it was Super Bowl day! Food was still warm by the time we got home. The brisket was so tender and was melting in our mouths. The Turkey was very good and the mustard sauce complimented it well but we preferred the brisket because it was juicier. I didn't try the wings but my husband tried them and he said they were flavorful. The sides, wow! I think those are the best sides we've ever had! The corn casserole is heavenly! No wonder it's their best seller. I've never tasted any thing like it before. It's served warm and it's truly like a warm hug! The potato salad was delicious and the coleslaw had great flavor. First time I try a lemon poppyseed coleslaw, you can taste the lemon in it and it gave it a great zing. Prices are on the higher side; we ended up paying over $80 with a regular tip. Quite a big check for two people. The food was great though so we didn't regret it but it was a pricey lunch. This is a place you have to try, especially with many great sides! I would eat there next time. Their patio looked nice and would be great in spring weather in AZ! read more

I took my son and his family to Caldwell County Bbq for dinner. There were nine of us. I ordered the meal for 8. Absolutely delicious. I was amazed that it fed all nine of us with plenty left over to take home. Seriously, it cost about $12 per person before tips. I can't take them out for a burger and fries in many places for that same price. The service is excellent. Great place. read more

From the moment I stepped out of my car I could smell the smokers that made our brisket covered with swooshes of fat cap. The massive yet tender rack of ribs that shimmered and offered a touch of natural sweetness. The mesquite smoked sausage mixed with jalapeño and creamy cheddar cheese was juicy. The Corn Casserole made with cornbread, sour cream, and hatch green chilies was a crowd favourite. I must say that I loved the pickles, and sweet red peppers in the creamy Caldwell Potato Salad. I can't speak highly enough about the great service and nice people working here. Loved having our lunch on the patio and the entire experience. read more

I'm not a big bbq person but co workers recommended this bbq joint. The brisket and beef chimchurri ribs were amazing. Def will go back. What I was most impressed about..even more than the food was the customer service. While my husband and I were eating, we had three different people check up on us to see if we needed anything and if we were satisfied with the food. When I was ordering, I couldn't decide on the turkey or sausage and he gave me samples to try. Every single worker there was excellent. Just for that alone..I would go back. By far the best brisket I have ever had. Been there many times and consistently I am impressed over and over again by how good it is.

We visited this barbecue spot today and were blown away! The general manager, Ben, went out of his way to make us feel welcome -- genuine hospitality from the moment we walked in. The brisket and sausage were absolutely amazing -- tender, flavorful, and perfectly smoked. They even gave us a tour of their smokers (which they have several of!), and it really added to the experience. The pitmaster -- whose name I wish I'd caught -- was kind enough to stop what he was doing and talk with us about his craft. He explained how they trim most of the fat out of the brisket, which actually makes it taste even better, and how they use that trimmed fat to render as tallow in the cooking process to use in other dishes. You can really taste the care and technique that goes into every bite. Can't wait to bring family and in-laws to this place, it can accommodate large groups. read more

The food was great but the service was even better. Ben and Moses were so incredibly kind, helpful and generous with their time and energy. I've been lucky enough to sample BBQ throughout the Nation for many years, and my repeat business is customarily based on brisket: the bark, tenderness/juiciness and flavor. If you want the best BBQ in the country, bar none, you've gotta get it at Caldwell County. Period. End of story. But that's not all. Their ribs are equally flavorful, juicy and tender, plus their jalapeño/cheddar sausage is amazing. We also had their potato salad (great zing) and mac 'n cheese (awesome creamy goodness) which left us wanting more, and lamenting our limited "storage capacity!" So the next time you're in Gilbert, AZ, make your way to Caldwell County for some awesome BBQ. Your taste buds will thank you. read more

If you want some good bbq then I recommend this place! It's a little narrow to get in and out of the parking lot but once you pass the firewood area it opens up wider for for your vehicle. I like the decorations and the outdoor seating area. I ordered the general patron sandwich which came with a side of coleslaw not expecting much meat on it but boy was I wrong. The employee pulled out a large ball of meat and set it between two toasty buns. The patton is basically all the meat( brisket, pulled pork, etc) rolled into one. The meat was very tasty and juicy with a nice Smokey bbq taste. It's enough meat and food to make the most hungriest person full. read more

It's hard to express the feelings I'm having right now. I placed a pick up order of Family of 4. Upon arriving 10 minutes ahead of time I was able to pay for my order and receive my food within 5 minutes. When handing the food over to me, they asked if I wanted sauce? Yes please! I given two good size tubs of barbecue sauce. I took the food home where I continue to make sandwiches and small meals for my family. Once I was able to sit down and actually eat, the food was almost euphoric. The green chili mac & cheese was unbelievable. The ribs were firmly secured to the bone, but when you bit into it, they fell right off of it. The brisket was moist and floppy. The pulled pork was perfect, perfectly cooked and easily breaking apart whenever you added pressure with a fork. For the longest time we went to neighboring barbecue joints. Without a doubt, I will be coming back to Caldwell's again. My whole experience was ... L E G E N D A R Y !!! I only wish I had photos but I ate my meal before I had a chance. Oooooops. read more

I went here for the first time today with my dad for lunch and we had a great time. The food was great but the service was even better. They had complimentary water for us waiting in line and all of the servers behind the counter were so friendly. We had the opportunity to speak with two of the managers. Manger Ben came and checked on us, asking how everything was and making sure we were comfortable. I also saw him constantly walking around and actively taking care of customers. If flavor had a capital, it'd be right here. The moment that smoke hits your nose, you know you're in for something legendary. The brisket? Melt-in-your-mouth perfection -- juicy, smoky, and seasoned like it was blessed by the BBQ gods themselves. The ribs slide off the bone with zero effort, and the sauce... sweet, tangy, with just enough kick to remind you you're alive. The sides hold their own, too -- creamy mac, tangy slaw, and cornbread that could start family feuds. Staff treats you like kin, the pitmaster walks around like a rockstar (as he should), and every bite makes you question why you ever ate anywhere else. If you're within 500 miles, cancel your plans and head here. Best. BBQ. Ever. read more
