Had dinner here because estriol is closed on Mondays. Very busy, they have a special sun-thurs 21.99 2 dinners and a bottle of wine. Service was slow, we did not order the special so I suspect that's why our food took so long to prepare, calamari app. Was good but the sauce was lame, dinners were also bland, shrimp Mozambique not much flavor and only 6 small shrimp, ( shrimp was perfectly cooked) but Mozambique sauce was bland and not much of it. Wife had bland chicken with over cooked vegetable's and good mash pot. Only real positive was the prices were very reasonable, the food just not great though. I went in for dinner for my sister-in-law's birthday. The only menu they have during the week is a 2 entree plus a bottle of wine special which was pretty inexpensive. They apparently are known for their portuguese steak, which of course I didn't order. They lured me in with a great sounding scallop special. DON"T DO IT!! Stick to the portuguese classics.. i think its what they are good at. The wine was cheap, there were shells in my scallop stuffing and to top it off, they tried to brulee the creme brulee in the oven resulting in scrambled eggs covered in a layer of chewy sugar.Yuck! We had a very good experience, the food and service was Excellent! Littleneck clams and chourico appetizer was incredible. Portuguese steak cooked perfectly. There are many Portuguese Restaurants that are better in the area... Went to Caldeiras for a large family dinner. They put us in a room on the side and that is exactly where we were for a long time. We had reservations, so they were aware we were coming. I literally sat there and waited 45 minutes for water and it was nearly an hour before they took our order. There was one waiter who was for our large party and he also had other tables within the restaurant. Most other places will have one waiter or waitress dedicated to the large party but not here. We were there for dinner a total of 3 hours which is ridiculous. Everyone ordered different items and it looked great. I ordered the Carne Ala tejana and wasn't that impressed. It was a small portion compared to other restaurants and the quality wasn't there. Others enjoyed their meals and they were larger, the Paella was huge. I would pass here if looking for a place to accommodate a larger party or request at the time of reservation to have one waiter/waitress or you may just be sitting there staring outside or at the bar through frosted glass for a long while. read more

This was my first time at a "Portuguese" Restaurant. My Portuguese GF has been wanting to take me to an authentic Portuguese restaurant for sometime. We were greeted at the door right away and then sat promptly. We were there not only to try my first Portuguese meat but, for their dinner special, a bottle of wine and two dinners. Our waiter, also the owners son, was prompt and professional. At his suggestion I had the Portuguese steak, which came with french fries and rice. It was very tasty! We would have been happy even if we had to pay full price. We each also got a cup of the soup for $3. It was more like a small bowl then a cup. The soup was amazing. The bread (papo secos rolls) was just simply as good as it gets. Now the entrees: I got Pork Osso Buco with boiled potatoes and carrots. It also came with sauteed mixed veg. Pork was fork tender, and delicious. Veg was also perfect, and the sauce was to die for. Mom got the baked schrod, PERFECTLY cooked with a ritz cracker topping with also perfectly cooked boiled potato, and the same mixed veg I got. More importantly. With the owner on site, and watching over everything. The service was amazing. All young good looking, hard working, and on point staff. Didn't try desserts, but they looked amazing. The restaurant is smaller, so be prepared to wait a bit of you go after 6pm. Especially when they have their dinner deals! I can honestly say I've liked every meal I've had here. My favorite is obviously the Portuguese steak, with fries, rice, and an egg on top. If you haven't tried it, get it! You won't regret it. I'm a Portuguese girl that has tried every steak in the city, and nobody can come close to the quality and taste of Caldeiras. Stopped in for $27 dinner for two with a bottle of wine. Portions were small, steak poor quality but good flavor. Most entrees served with rice and potato (i.e. starch overload along with bread). We requested vegetables rather than potato, charged $2 extra served about 2 tablespoons of overcooked vegetables. NO value here. Portuguese Terras Del Rei Red wine from Alentejo region was excellent. Portions could certainly be larger... average charge for a meal on menu is $14 or $15 so for ($27 dinner for two and bottle of wine) you're getting wine at no charge. Their cost for this wine is most likely $4 a bottle. May try again...hopefully there will be an improvement. read more
