The food here is fantastic. The star of the menu is their calamari appetizer, which comes with a garlic sauce. Trust me, the calamari is fantastic. For a main dish I usually get their Portuguese steak which is always perfectly cooked. They have a pretty good wine selection and the staff is always friendly. Also the owner is a great guy, comes over to talk to guests occasionally. He donated food to my work for a fundraiser and is just a really good guy. read more

POOR FOOD QUALITY, SERVICE, & OWNERSHIP!!!!!!!!!!!! Used to be a great place to eat. It's now way overpriced for the amount & quality of food. We waited almost an hour for our food & when receiving it wasn't even luke warm. I ordered the shrimp combo three ways of cooking shrimp. Baked stuffed, Mocambique and Shish kabob served with fries and rice. I didn't want the Shish kabob & to split the extra shrimp between the other two ways, which they've done in the past. They just gave the same amount minus the extra shrimp that I paid for. My two friends complained the portions were smaller than in the past. The tall male waited repeated walked past our table never refilling all three glasses of water which were all empty. I had to ask one of the other wait staff for two glasses of water. The owner walked up & asked how everything was. I told him that my food was cold & that the baked stuffed shrimp was dried out & overcooked & the Mocambique was really spicy, it wasn't in the past. He told me he was sorry & that was the Portuguese way to cook the shrimp. I've had this dish in the past. It was a lot more, filling the large plate w/shrimp, fries & rice. He walked off saying Thank You. No let me take something off your tab, coffee's a dessert to take home. I never had management do that let alone the owner of a restaurant Then we had to wait another 10-15 for the check & had to ask another wait staff for a box to take my cold fries & rice home. She took my plate in the Kitchen & never returned with my food. I normally never rate restaurants unless it was a truly terrible experience. read more

My wife and I went with the dinner special, many choices for your meal with a bottle of wine for only $27.99 The special is Monday thru Thursday ,Service was excellent read more

Stopped in for $27 dinner for two with a bottle of wine. Portions were small, steak poor quality but good flavor. Most entrees served with rice and potato (i.e. starch overload along with bread). We requested vegetables rather than potato, charged $2 extra served about 2 tablespoons of overcooked vegetables. NO value here. Portuguese Terras Del Rei Red wine from Alentejo region was excellent. Portions could certainly be larger... average charge for a meal on menu is $14 or $15 so for ($27 dinner for two and bottle of wine) you're getting wine at no charge. Their cost for this wine is most likely $4 a bottle. May try again...hopefully there will be an improvement. read more

Tried this for the first time...hey at 22.95 why wouldn't you? I have to say I didn't expect much, it is Fall River after all. Was I pleasantly surprised? I am definitely an Estoril fan, but Caldeira's was open and Estoril wasn't on this night so we decided to give it a try. Swordfish special was great, never had it deep fried but it was perfectly cooked. Hubby had the cod filet, also perfectly cooked, and nicely fried round potatoes. The rice was nice and sticky and slightly sweet. Not a thing was too salty, which is why I've always hated Portuguese food. I think my veggies would have been better if they were less cooked, but that's my personal preference. Presentation was very nice too. The service was nice, but I'd have to agree a little slow to bring the bill especially. I've made a mental note to always go with cash so I don't have to wait twice, but this is minor. Will be going back to see if the portuguese steak compares to Estoril! I do agree with the other yelper about the TV, but it wasn't intrusive as we sat near the dessert case. Again, just my personal preference not to have a TV in a restaurant, if you want to watch TV, nuke a TV dinner, get out the metal TV tray, and have a ball. Me, I want to enjoy the experience of dining out. Also, parking sucks, but that's again, just Fall River. Don't wander alone in this part of town and stay alert if you can't park in their lot. Anyway, I highly advise you to give it a try. read more

I went there yesterday for my birthday never again bad customer service the waiter was so rude I wont recommended anyone to go there

Our server was extremely rude at Caldeiras. He was slamming things, taking our plates without asking if we were finished, and giving such a bad attitude. One guest in my party did not like her drink and asked for something different and she had to explain to herself why she didn't like it because he didn't believe her. He also randomly flipped out yelling, "I know what I'm doing!!!" At one point. He hovered over our table when we were getting ready to pay. Just because of such a bad experience with the awful server, all 8 people in my party will not be back ever again. And the food was decent, nothing special. read more

Went in for dinner with my family on a saturday night because the original restaurant we were going to had a 2 hour wait, and since Caldeiras was close to home, why not? It wasn't too packed so we were seated right away. My mother ordered codfish cakes for appetizers but because I'm not a fan, I hesitated to try it... however, when I finally gave in, I couldnt stop eating them. They were delicious!!! Our food was also really good; portuguese steak, soup, pork... except for the shrimp mozambique dinner, which was nothing spectaluar (I'll stick to Sagres when I'm craving mozambique). Overall the food was very good and the price I thought was very reasonable (until I found out through yelp that they have a $22.99 special sunday-thursday.. and we went on a saturday!) but I only gave it 4 stars because of the service. Our waiter was nice and friendly, but the service was sooooo slow! I've only been to this restaurant two times, and that happened on both occasions. We waited a little over an hour for our meals to come out. That is waaay too long for me, especially when the restaurant wasn't even so busy! I really want to come back to Caldeiras, but they need to fix that issue, otherwise I'll have to pass.... read more

Being Portuguese myself, and having tried many of the Other Portuguese restaurants in the area, I can say this place is fantastic! Went around 6 on a Thursday night and with a party of 2, had to wait about 15 minutes for a table. The atmosphere is beautiful, the restaurant is clean. The second we sat down, we were given a basket of bread. Our appetizer ( calamari) came out fast considering how busy it was. It was good, nothing special. We both got the Portuguese style steak and it was amazing. A good quality piece of steak, cooked to order. The sauce was incredible. Staff was great and the prices were wonderful. We will definitely be back! read more

We love Caldeiras. It's great every time and everyone is friendly. The parking lot is small, but you can park across the street at the bank after hours. I recommend Caldeiras to anyone visiting Fall River. read more

From the moment I walked in the door great service, atmosphere and my meal was fantastic!!!!

So disappointed. We arrived as a party of 8 at about 5:45. We were told that there would be a 45 minute wait. We decided to wait since almost all of us had been before and had good experiences. After about an hour, we were told that they would work on getting tables together. After checking in again, an hour and a half later, one employee made a comment to another employee to disregard our party. We were shocked and left without being seated...with a very hungry child straggling behind. If this is the way Caldeiras treats some of their customers, then you may want to rethink your business strategy. It's just plain wrong in business and in life in general. All the adult members of our party will continue to share this experience with our extended families and friends. Why take a chance of not being seated at this restaurant, especially after a long wait? read more

Absolutely amazing Portuguese restaurant! The dinner for two and a bottle of wine is such a great deal for 25.95. If you go with children the prices for things like Mac and cheese is really expensive (like 7 dollars) but a better option for the kids is a Portuguese steak sandwich (5$) . Portuguese steak dish is amazing with the Portuguese red wine. read more

Yesterday was my first time going there. We went for the (dinner for two) special. You get a bottle of wine also. Our waiter didn't tell us his name, and didn't have a friendly personality. I can't stand when a waiter/waitress doesn't introduce themselves. The wings for an appetizer were good. The meals were not. My fiance' has had Portuguese steak at so many places and this 1 didn't have flavor. I agree because I tried it. I had the fish fillets that were so spongy. I've learned that I'm not a fan of cod. The waiter didn't pay much attention to us, but asked quickly if everything was okay. I didn't say it stunk because I was hungry and didn't feel like waiting. We weren't offered round house fries as an option and we weren't even offered coffee and dessert!! The owner came over asking how our meals were. When he heard our honest answers he wasn't genuine with his apology. What he should've done was to offer us a drink on the house or free dessert to make up for the poor service and us being unhappy with our meals. His response was ridiculous. "My friends I can assure you the fish is fresh." If you come back next time I guarantee you'll like your meal." The batter on the fish was soggy, and the rice was so plain. What didn't he get about that comment? We won't be returning here. The place was busy, so they must have a good regular crowd. It's too bad that we didn't have a better experience. read more

I only gave this one star so I could write this review. So after reading one of the "Tags" as saying "Take Out" I again called this restaurant, against my better judgment, as my nephew wanted a Português Steak from there. And yet AGAIN was told the weren't doing "to go orders tonight" and when I told the man I was going to write his restaurant a bad review he found me very amusing as he laughed at me and wished me a good night!! And so being from CA never having tried this place I can only conclude they don't need or care to have anyone's business so don't bother. read more

DO NOT GO! The staff and owner are completely unprofessional. I planned to go on a Friday night and my mom made a reservation for 7:00 p.m. for a birthday celebration for me, her and my boyfriend. We arrived at 7:00 p.m. and were told to wait 5-10 minutes - we did not sit until 7:20 p.m. The owner was seating guests and sat 2 parties before us, both which were walk ins. We finally were seating and we ordered out appetizers and meals within a few minutes apart from each other. We did not receive our meals for another hour, meanwhile, a table of 6 received their food and a table that sat at the same time of us of 4 had finished their meal and left. The owner, rudely, came over and explained that one of the dishes had "fallen on the ground and it needed to be remade". The table of 6 that received their food before us had the same meals we ordered come out. When we finally received the food, the owner, again rudely, came over to check on us and continued to fight me and my mother about how the food was and about the wait that the food took to come out. After the owner finally left the table after being completely and utterly rude, we asked our waiter to please wrap the rest of the food up and give the cake we brought for my girlfriend back so we can just leave. The server obviously did not listen, as he put the candles into the cake and destroyed the cake after we asked for them not to touch the cake and return the cake. I WILL NOT BE RETURNING AGAIN! read more

First time here last night. There was a wait, no problem with that , but there was no wait list, so the host called parties in by choice I guess. Since they had a special going on two dinners and a bottle of wine for $22.99, only the special menu was handed out. When I asked if there was one? , I was told, do you want to see it? Waitress was young and rude .The food was good and that was a good thing since we only saw the waitress at a drop off plate and with our bill. The dinning room was full and really loud . The lighting was poor since we only had one candle on the table it was very hard to see our food. So much traffic in the dinning area that a waiter ran over my toes as I made my way to the table from the bathroom. For an hour and half that I spent here , I was not able to see anyone overlooking this dinning room that was ran by very young people who seem to have to much to handle. read more

Terrible customer service! Waited an hour and a half for a table of eight, just to be told by a waitress to another waiter "don't worry about them" really? I would frequent here three times a week. Never again! read more

Very nice people and a very nice place. I sat at the bar, where I met a bunch of friendly people. Then, when my friend finally showed up, we sat in the dining room. They give you a full bottle of wine and you can sip at your own pace, no waiting for the waitress to come around... Smart idea. The food was really good! It was flavorful and everything tasted freshly made. I'd come back. read more

I went their with my wife a few weeks ago and never even got a chance to give my name. It was busy and there was a wait and I literally stood at the hostess station for 20 minutes just waiting to give my name. At least five different people said "We'll be right with you" Including one older gentleman who said that and then stodd right next to me for about 3-4 minutes and walked away. A bearded gentlemen then came over and crossed a bunch of names off the list, shook his head and walked away. ALL I WANTED TO DO WAS GET MY NAME ON THE LIST and they couldn't even get that accomplished read more

It is nearly impossible to order take out from here.. They pick and choose when they will accept orders. They are not a huge restaurant so it seems crazy to me that they have to stop take out service so frequently. We own a restaurant that probably seats double the amount of people, and I would never turn people down as they do, which by the way is in the most rude, unprofessional way. read more

My boyfriend is from fall river, and now we live in North Carolina. Absolutely no Portuguese restaurants in NC except for home cooked meals, so I was so super excited to visit. Portuguese soup is like grandma's soup, crab cakes are the best I've ever had and Portuguese steaks are amazing. Full of flavors in each dish, plus excellent customer service. And they're open on Mondays which is a rarity! read more

The 2 for $27 deal is consistently excellent. The beef kabobs and baked scrod are delicious. Other favorites are the steak and the baked scallops. The seafood is always fresh and servings are large. Very disappointed that they don't take reservations for a large party. Called at 11:30 a.m. to make 5 oclock reservations for 6 people for dinner at 5:00. Was told they don't make reservations . I asked if there was going to be a problem when we got there as it was a surprise party for a person, who we told to be there for 5:30 and the Mgr. said he couldn't guanantee we could get a table for 6 at that hour. What!!!! Too late to change everything that is planned for this person and this is the favorite restaurant for the person being celebrated. Never heard of this. Most Portuguese restaurants will take a reservation if its for a good number of people. read more

Got to love this place! The right mix of Portuguese with an upscale ambience.. Don't let the exterior or surrounding area dissuade you. I had the Chilean Seabass ... Four of us had a late lunch here on a Saturday. One of the dinners we ordered was exceptionally good (sea bass); two were overcooked (BBQ chicken and pork loin); and one (shrimp Mozambique) was quite small and not very flavorful. One of my companions asked to substitute a mixed vegetable for the french fries which came with his meal. The charge for this substitution was $2.00 and the vegetables were overcooked and tired looking. There were very few other people dining at this time of day, yet we waited a considerable length of time for our meals. The waitress was excellent and the Portuguese Pops were fresh and chewy. But we were surprised by our overall experience at Caldeiras given the many positive reviews on Yelp. read more

Our favorite Portuguese restaurant in Southeast MA. Food is outstanding and the cost is very reasonable.

Just stopped by for dinner with our kids and were blown away by the delicious food. The staff was so friendly but the introduction to Portuguese food and community was amazing. Steak kabobs, potato cakes, mashed potatoes and more to highly recommend. read more

I was invited to Caldeiras by my mother/father in law. My fiancé mentioned before we arrived, it was the best Portuguese restaurant in Massachusetts. Hospitality was Ok. Atmosphere was nice. Service was slow. Food was pretty good, nothing to write home about. Here's the kicker, my mother in law ordered a burger and found 2 pieces of glass in it. They didn't charge us for it (go figure). First impressions mean everything and I don't plan on going back. read more

Very poor customer service . Today will be my last day going here . I used to go here twice a week . I went with my family today at 530 with a party of 8 and was told a 45 min wait . No big deal . After an hour I check again and was told we are waiting to put tables together for you . I noticed the back room open up and said can we sit there . He said sure give me a few minutes and I will set it up . A half our later still nothing . Actually went back in and he sat another party in our place that came in an hour after us . My dad was trying to figure out what was going on and when the owner who knew we have been waiting a hour and a half came over the waitress tells the owner don't worry about them and he walks away . We left . Being a business owner myself I would never treat my customers this way and I will make sure I tell everyone about my awful experience . I will never go where my business is not welcomed . read more

The server was extremely slow. We got there at 6:30 and didn't get served our main course until 8:30. We had kids at the table. It was great that they got served first but waiting another hour before our food comes means very restless kids. The server was not very accommodating nor responsive. All drinks including water was a la carte. Getting charged 3 glasses of fountain soda ice tea is just not the common practice nowadays. The food wasn't even good. My steak was tasteless and tough and the egg on top was rubbery. I've been to other Portuguese restaurants before in that area and love Portuguese food. This hands down is the worst experience I've had so far. We were charged a mandatory 17% gratuity due to our party size; maybe that was why they felt it was okay to do a horrible job serving. I would prefer to give this restaurant no stars but that wasn't an option. This is the first bad review I have given on Yelp! read more

Had been in the area and was looking for real homemade food and was attracted to the storefront. Atmosphere inside was comfortable, clean and tasteful. Attentive waitress, so since in no hurry didn't mind the 20 minute wait for the meal. I ordered broiled chicken, roasted vegetables and potato, all came lukewarm at best. Then came the real disappointment, the roasted vegetables were more of a condiment approx 2 tablespoons and consisted of standard bagged baby carrots, green beans and summer squash highly salted and more sautéed than roasted. The chicken was processed meat with the charcoal marks, something I've had at McDonalds, would be hard pressed to say broiled chicken. Informed the waitress and asked to return the meal and perhaps replace with soup, she said she was sorry but I would have to pay additional if I wanted soup. Paid for the meal and left, needless to say I would not recommend this establishment. read more
