Delicious Indian fare with an incredibly helpful menu that identifies vegetarian, vegan, AND gluten-free items. The highest priced entree is a lamb dish ($19.99) but most offerings hover around 10 bucks. There's a free self-service beverage station that includes ice water, chai (milky, spiced tea), and hot water for regular tea. On the appetizer side, the pakora (veggie fritters) are small and delicious; my only complaint is that there just aren't enough on the plate. The medu vada (two fried lentil donuts) come with two sides, coconut chutney and a vegetable-laden lentil soup, making this appetizer a meal in itself. The palak paneer (cheese in spinach sauce) is spiced nicely and quite addicting. The malai kofta (cheese and veggie dumplings in sauce) is both spicy and sweet. Completely unrelated to food: The bathroom is really quite nice. Calcutta Wrap and Roll is a small take-out place with maybe five tables. Similar places just leave a few rolls of tp on a pole and spritz some air freshener. I live no where near this place and make a pilgrimage 2-3 times a month! The lunch (thali) specials are crazy reasonably priced - my faves so far (and the menu is extensive) are the chicken curry, tandoori chicken, rajima, aloo gobi, aloo Tamatar, the yellow dal, the like-a-pillow naan, chicken wraps, samosas, and the free of you dine in chai. 4.5 stars Wonderful Indian food. The Chicken Saag was quite extraordinary, tender pieces of white meat chicken with a silky creamy spinach sauce. We ordered take out for the work and everyone LOVED it. I had a bite of my girlfriend's Bean Bahar and it was brilliantly seasoned and I normally loathe green beans. I catered a party for 30 people at my house and not only was the food plentiful and cleanly presented, all my guests were raving about how delicious everything tasted. I worked with Bunya and he was professional and helpful. I have a tendency to over order but he was considerate of my guest count and made sure I did not unnecessarily order too much. My wife and I have been hunting around for a true "Calcutta" based restaurant experience for a long time now. We've been to all the "big names" in nyc and frequented the parkchester area in the bronx in an attempt to get something similar to what grandma used to cook up for us back in the day. Parking here on a saturday is tough but we did manage to find something after some patience. We walk in to the restaurant and it was more or less what we were expecting, a small "fast food" feel. Order at the counter and bring it to your own table. We had the following: 1)Fish Chop 2)Okra/Potato/Onion Saute (don't remember the name of this entree) 3)Moog Daal 4)Goat Curry 5)Chicken Biryani 6)Rosh Malai We weren't quite exactly expecting everything to come out at exactly the same time, but we did have some hopes that we would be able to consume the main entrees together. The fish chop came out and they were awesome. The tamarind and mint chutneys are in the fridge that you can go walk over to and help yourself. We waited about 20 minutes or so and then we got our moog daal/okra/white rice. All of this was great! Another 20 minutes or so later, we got our Goat curry. At this point we were already feeling full but we couldn't resist putting a few on our plate. About 15 minutes later, that is when we got our Chicken Biryani and Rosh Malai... to go. We popped open the Rosh Malai at home and were pretty dissapointed. The texture and appearance was good, but the "sauce" was burned. It literally tasted like it was burned (smoky flavor). Service - pretty slow, Food - excellent over all, Pricing - not bad, spent about $56 and left an additional $10 tip. The only reason why I dinged them the star is because the dessert needs major improvement. But in all seriousness, Calcutta in Ardsley makes some seriously delicious Indian food. We are so glad to have a good Indian restaurant so close to home in Westchester. I have visited Calcutta W&R a number of times and I always, always enjoy it. Their rolls are delicious and they really do kick them up a notch if you ask. I have also had a few of the entrees and they are all great as well, especially the paneer makhani. Appetizers are all really good. I usually do takeout here, but it's fine to eat there as well. The staff members are nice and the lady who seems to own the place is very polite and attentive as well. Calcutta is a great addition to the Westchester Indian scene. Really disappointed with this place. We were really looking forward to the rolls...they missed the mark completely. I used their online ordering system to order for pick up, they had a few options like add an egg and add onions. I added onions to all four rolls--but when I went to eat them, none has onions. I also wanted egg on two rolls, only one roll had egg. The rolls were also suppose to be wrapped in pan fried paratha, but they were wrapped in a wheat Roti. Basically it was different sizes of spiced chicken wrapped into a wheat roll, and nothing else. We did not order the "skinny rolls" so I don't know if they ran out of the paratha but should have told us if they did. Wheat roti totally ruined this for us. We would have tried something else. Not a great experience at all. 33 dollars wasted for incorrect order. read more

Here's the deal - my sister and me were feening for Indian & we yelped this place and decided to give it a try. Holy bananas! This might be the best Indian food I've had. It's kind of a hidden gem because you would miss it if you weren't looking (next to some pour house).. The chicken tika masala, and the lamb curry - so delicious, fresh, moist, and the spiced were on point. :) The veg samosas were crunchy but deliciously soft inside. The sauces were handmade and perfect for the palate. The people that work own/work here are really hilarious, responsive to diner needs, and kind. Disclaimer: I am not an Indian Cuisine fanatic. That being said, the food here is delicious! This was the second time I came here with my wife and both dine-ins have been pleasurable. The staff greet you warmly, and are helpful to newcomers not familiar with the cuisine. The decor here is contemporary and the overall size of the venue is small (about 3-4 tables to dine in). Big eaters be warned: Portion sizes are average-to-above-average as comparable to other takeout spots. Appetizers: I have tried the vegetable samosas and skinny chicken rolls. They were both hot and fresh, full of the flavorful complexity expected from Indian cuisine. The Naan (flat bread not unlike pita bread) is the perfect accompaniment to the spicy and flavorful entrees, and comes plain or in a garlic variant. Entrees: I have tried the Chicken Moorka/Morka which comprises of small chicken breast chunks in a nutty, green sauce, and the staple Chicken Tandoori. Both arrived hot and delicious with a side of Basmati rice. Next time I will be trying the well-known Chicken Tikka Masala but I think the Moorka will win for a trusted go-to dish. The nutty herb and spice texture is addictive! Be weary when going for the spicy dishes like the Vindaloos! My wife ordered Dr. B's Chicken and found it spicy to the point of it being inedible. No worries though! Mrs. B offered some Indian yogurt to cool the tongue, on the house! Honestly Dr. B and his wife are genuine and hospitable people that always make it a pleasure to stop by. Overall very pleasant dining experience, I just wish the venue was bigger and full service with table waiting. Understandable though, given the owner Dr. B is a full time OB/GYN during the daytime! Since I went to an Indian Restaurant in Boston for Pax EAST- I've been on a major indian kick. I have tried countless indian restaurants in the Westchester Area, this one is my favorite. The food is fresh, the owners are always there to help, and the staff actually care. I am just one of the many that go there, but still feel like I'm valued. The place is small, but welcoming. Best Indian food in Westchester! I'm not exaggerating, this place serves the food piping hot, seasons everything perfectly. We eat here almost weekly, trying all sorts of dishes and have never had a bad meal. Current favorites are the wonderful Thali dishes (where you get two main dishes, rice and other goodness for about 8 dollars); dosas; mango Lassis; & chicken Biriyani!!! If you order your food spicy, it will be spicy on a new level, it's defintely hot, delicious and hot - you have been warned. I get medium spicy for my kids and they eat the food up every single time. Oh wait, I almost forgot about the Kathi rolls, they are so delicious, with or without egg. Request your appropriate spice level. The only downside is perhaps the parking situation, though it's not Calcutta's fault. They owners are super nice and always ask after my kiddos. I'm sitting at work on my lunch break eating my Calcutta Wrap and Roll meal and damn is it delicious. I went for all vegetarian dishes today and I couldn't be happier. My reasonably priced lunch special includes two vegetable dishes (you get to pick from four choices) and rice or nann. The portions are reasonably sized and definitely filling. I also ordered two vegetable samosas with my meal, which are excellent as well. Who can complain about a filling meal for $11? I've never sat down to eat, but the dining area looks like a small, cozy spot that could get crowded quickly. I stumbled across the restaurant in Ardsley quite accidentally this past summer -- and am so glad that I did! The food is amazing -- among the best Indian food I have ever had. The ingredients are fresh, and all dishes are prepared to order. The service is courteous, professional and engaging. I have visited the restaurant on several occasions now, and everything that I have had thus far has been just excellent. Each time I have had it, the chicken biryani has been just delicious with flavorful rice and extremely moist chicken pieces. Chicken tikka masala was perfectly cooked -- with tender chicken pieces and a rich tomato and cream sauce. Coconut fish was a terrific surprise -- mild, flavorful boneless fish with coconut and tamarind (a specialty of the Malabar Coast). Malai Kofta was terrific - creamy and nutty texture and very tasty. Calcutta Chicken roll and the Calcutta Vegetable Chop were really good. Although I haven't had all of the dishes so I can't say for a fact but I think this is one of those rare restaurants where you can basically order anything off the menu and know that it will be excellent. I LOVE Calcutta Wrap & Roll- they're inexpensive, have great and quick service, serve FREE chai, and thus, have become my go-to spot for fast indian food in the Westchester area. They're located in a small shopping center with another couple of restaurants closely situated; parking can be a bit hectic at times so unless I'm dining in I like to place my order in advance and do a seamless pick up. I've tried a few varieties here including samosas, paneer rolls (house and skinny), chicken rolls (house and skinny), chicken tikka masala, and chicken vindaloo and nothing disappoints. Food: I have had chicken, lamb, goat dishes so far. All very good. Meat is tender, good spice, good sauces. My wife gets the aloo gobi alot, and real good for a veggie dish. Naan bread is nice & warm, and the raita comes in a huge portion. Portion sizes are good too - think what you get for Chinese takeout. Service: They do delivery up to 5 miles for free I think. If you go there to order, the service has always been friendly. It gets very busy during evening hours, so order early if you do not want to wait long for your food. First time visitors. We live 25 miles away in Cortlandt Manor, NY and wanted to try an Indian restaurant that had good pricing. We used yelp.com to find Calcutta Wrap & Roll. I called prior to leaving home asking if they had inside seating. They told me they have 16 seats. I said we'd be there in 45 minutes. We drove the approximately 30 minutes and the place was busy and all tables were taken. I spoke with cashier and stated that I was the one that called, and at that moment a table freed up. Another couple tried to sit down, but the cashier told the couple we were next (assumed because I called first). So glad I called first for reservation. We waited some time (30 minutes for our food) but it was worth the wait. Food was hot (which is mandatory for me) and freshly made and tasty. Our party had 3 people and we ate well for $59 including taxes (3 dinner entrees, 3 mango lassis, an appetizer chicken roll and 1 order of Indian bread). There is no table service, but I didn't mind getting up when our order was ready to retrieve it to save on a server tip. I did put a few dollars in a jar up by the cashier to show our appreciation for the good food. We left very full with some leftovers (great for next day meal). I liked the overall visit and will return with my family. I did not like the way they clean the tables with windex glass cleaner. I felt that the entire table was not cleaned properly, but did not complain. The food was excellent and that was the main attraction. Table seating is limited, call ahead and expect a wait for dine in. Place was extremely busy with take out and pick up orders. Restaurant next door (Japanese) was empty. CW&R was busy, door constantly opening with customer traffic. Employees were very friendly and asked if our order was satisfactory after giving us a chance to eat some of it. They have a frequent guest promotion where for every $30 spent you can get a card validated. You have to spend 12 times $30 to get a $20 gift card for future food purchase. I think this is a nice gesture albeit hard to attain. After spending $59 the cashier marked my card for 2 $30 purchases which I appreciated. We will return again to Calcutta Wrap & Roll and will drive the 25 miles again. Thank you and hope this review helps. Though a bit pricey, the food was really good! Service was very friendly and the cashier took the time to explain his favorites. We really liked the vindaloo. The chicken tikka marsala was also really good! Everything we ordered was delicious and we even had leftovers for lunch the next day :) The garlic naan was a bit disappointing, as it was pretty bland and not very different than a regular naan. Despite it being a busy time the young woman on the phone was friendly and even checked with the kitchen staff for me. I picked up the food to take out. But when I'm in Westchester I can't help stopping by for a delicious meal at this hidden Indian treasure. Their lunch time Thali is by far the best delectable deal around. So far I've tried the Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Korma & Chicken Saag. I also enjoy their vegetable samosa. All really yumminy. I only do take out, which seems to be the way they're geared. They have a nicely decked out little place, very clean, with a small amount of tables. They have a couple of tables for 4 and some more for 2 people. Not really the place for a romantic interlude, but certainly fine for a get together with friends. For me, take out is the way to go cause I'm usually stopping by on my way some where. They pack up everything really well. Try the free chai while you wait. I'm not a tea person, so I was very pleasantly surprised when I needed to warm up on a cold fall day. A little hard to find. There are several tables, but if you come at a busy time be prepared to take something to go. It seems like they make food to order, so it is not a super fast food place unless you get one of their "express" meals. Access from the south or west is tricky. The shopping center is in the northwest corner of the intersection, but the driveway is right off the intersection. I would suggest looking at the satellite image for a clear picture. I particularly enjoyed the rajma, a kidney bean dish that I haven't seen anywhere else. If we'd realized that the aloo tamatar and aloo bhindi were both fried, though, we might have chosen different selections. We recently moved from Jackson Heights, home of the fabled Jackson Diner, to Westchester. This food equals that in every measure. A very pleasant surprise. The lamb vindaloo made my eyes well up -- a good sign of appropriate heat. The kids stole my roti. Only drawback is the extended use of styrofoam plates and disposables. I feel like I made several trips to the trashcan carrying 5 pounds of plastic cups and forks. My advice to management: splurge on some cheap dinnerware and a Hobart. read more

I'd been living in New York for the past couple of years now and was still on the search for a good Kathi roll place. Don't get me wrong, there are a number of really good Indian restaurants in the city, but I hadn't found one that served food that you could believe was made in India. It took me a trip to Westchester to find THAT roll. The paratha was perfectly flaky. The meat was tender and extremely juicy. I would recommend trying all of the rolls if you had a whole day or a really health appetite; however, if you aren't that lucky, then go for the Calcutta chicken roll. If had the good fortune of visiting Calcutta, this roll will surely rekindle those memories. We ended up leaving with the food at 6:15 PM. This is not the first time this is happened. I love Indian food and this place hits the spot! No matter what get the food taste flavorful and fresh. This place is inexpensive, quick service and let's not forget the awesome free chai tea and the available chutney sauce on the side. I would recommend their chicken as it seems consistent tender, their lamb can be sometimes overcooked and they have loads of great vegetarian options as well. There are a couple of seats and tables and the weird thing is, is that sometimes there's a distinct (nonfood related) odor that can be a little off putting.
