After so long, I finally got to try Shirley's and it was delicious! My husband wasn't sure why I was so excited to try this place, but it was amazing. A friend had suggested placing the order the evening before so it would be ready on time, and that is what I did. The restaurant even called me after placing it to confirm it was for the next day, and I confirmed that it was. We didn't order much, but what we ordered we loved. We got an order of samosas, paneer korma, and paratha. All of what we ordered was delicious. We were running a bit late, and the restaurant was kind enough to store our order in their fridge until we got there since I informed them that we wouldn't be eating it until later. Overall, I can't wait to have this food again - my one and only tip would be that I would have loved a mixed veg/paneer option for my Korma! read more

Ordered butter chicken empanadas (so delicious), def have it with their jalapeno sauce, butter chicken (delicious), chicken tikka masala (although tasted just like the butter chicken), mixed pakoras were really yummy. I was not a big fan of the vegetable biryani, even though it looked promising with fried shallots sprinkled on top. It had too much cardamom powder in it, and that threw off the flavor profile. This place is a hole in the wall - not even sure they really have a proper place to sit and eat, but let me tell you this is the best dang hole in the wall I've visited for Indian food - another new Rochelle gem! I stumbled across this place from an instagram ad and my husband (who is South Indian) is always on the prowl for good Kerala style food - we decided to try it and ordered takeout a few months ago. Best. Decision. Ever! We've ordered sooo many things off their menu - the monthly specials, the parotta rolls, the south Indian and North Indian specials - it hits EVERY TIME. I have ordered here before and the street boxes are full of flavor. Today I ordered 2 street boxes and I called because there was a lot of salad and two fries. I told them this order couldn't be right because I didn't substitute the fries for salad. They were very kind and apologetic about it. They came to deliver the difference. One word: Wow! Was debating to get food from here for a while and so glad I decided to order from here. The food came well wrapped with no spill and was delicious. The butter chicken empanadas price is on the high side but for the size and amount of filling, totally worth it. The empanada also came with different sauces making it more tasty. Update: As you can see, Shirley's contacted me immediately. My review probably came off so angry because that website was really awful! They've asked me to email them so they can address it. Also, they did make the point that ordering straight from the menu is cheaper, rather than through DoorDash, and I know that in my heart, but the website debacle clouded my judgment ha! They've also offered the desert we didn't receive. Their reply was so nice that I might even try the website again. I will definitely try the Nutella cheesecake samosas. Thank you, Shirley's, for being so kind to a cranky customer. TLDR: Good food, terrible website experience, problematic delivery process, and part of our order was missing. Review: I've said in many reviews that we have a favorite Indian restaurant in Clarksville, TN, Tandoor, that we've patronized for at least a decade. I judge every establishment by this spot, and have yet to find any place to beat it. I only say this to point out that Shirley's is probably a five in many books, just not mine. First, the gripes, which have nothing to do with taste, just in case Shirley's reads this (I don't want them to get bored and quit reading before this part): we never got our Nutella cheesecake samosas. We paid, but they never arrived with the rest of our order. Considering we paid over 150 dollars after taxes and tip (which still doesn't warrant free delivery), that's a kick in the stomach. Another thing, I will never order to go from Shirley's website again. It is the WORST website. Slow, buggy, glitchy. It took FOREVER to put an order together. I used the Shirley's website over DoorDash for a couple reasons: one, I do try to funnel as much money directly to business as possible. Two, there were a couple of things my husband wanted that were on the website, but not DoorDash. What happened? Our delivery was still sent by DoorDash and we still paid the more than six dollar delivery fee. Delivery fee? Fine. But that website? I can't get the at least 45 minutes it took me to struggle through that order. On to the food: In addition to the obligatory naan, we got: Aloo gobi with the potato base. Creamy with well seasoned potatoes--just the right amount of firmness. Chicken 65--good flavor, though Shirley makes hers soft and we prefer crispy. That's just a preference thing. Loaded street fries with chili gobi (cauliflower): Fries were crisp, not soggy, and the gobi sauce was bursting with flavor. Chicken Manchurian: We usually get gobi Manchurian with cauliflower, but it's not available here. Chicken was fried, but not crispy, which actually worked here. Savory and well seasoned. Mattar (green peas and spiced cream sauce): Creamy, velvety, lots of spices and herbs. This and the aloo gobi were probably my faves. I think we ended up with the "not mint" sauce instead of the mint sauce. The coconut chutney and raita were thin for our taste. Shirley's has a pretty expansive menu: samosas, butter chicken, tandoori dishes, curries, etc. They also have wraps: mix veg, paneer, chicken tikka, coco beef, stir-fry shrimp. They have a deal on Monday (though yelp! says they are closed on Monday) where you can get three for the price of two. Food was pretty good. Experience wasn't great. read more

as a foodie I'm always paranoid about trying new places in Westchester that aren't Italian. Being Indian myself, I was weary of this place but figured I'd give it a try-- their butter chicken empanadas look amazing in pictures! To be honest they nailed the crunch aspect of them, but the filling, just like all the food we ordered lacked flavor. It "looked" good but tasted quite bland. The chicken tikka masala was also quite bland. We ordered the chicken tikka Kati rolls- again they look like they are going to be good but also lacked flavor- salt, spice. Definitely won't be back. I think they have potential but wondering if they are trying to cater to the surrounding population? In that case I recommend maybe they add a mild medium and spicy option for everything. read more

When I worked in New Rochelle as a driving instructor for New Mellenium on Main Street, this place was one of my fave Indian influenced take out restaurants. They have a cute little window alongside of the building in which they house their kitchen. My usually order was Tikka Maasala or Chicken Biryani. Now, don't expect your order to be pumped out in 10 mins or so. That's NOT how this place works. They take their time in preparing a good meal. So avg waits can be as long as 25- 30 mins for your delicious Indian meals! The wait is S0000 WORTH IT! The naan is pretty avg tasting and the rice is usually prepped freshly. I highly recommend this reasonably priced and DELICIOUSLY prepared Indian cuisine. Small place that prepares with BIG deliciously, spiced flavors! I can't comment on their website and ordering from their as I have not used it. Every time I ordered, I would do it through their little slide window in the side of their restaurant. This place is takeout only and the folks at the counter are super considerate and kept giving all of us waiting updates about our order. The beef fry was a little too dry, the chicken 65 was good but nothing to sing too many praises about. The butter chicken empanadas were truly unique and was the highlight. I've ordered from here five times over the past year and a half, always getting their signature dish, "Chicken 65", along with a different app each time. Although the apps are still very good, the Chicken 65 is no longer. Each time I've ordered it, the quality of the chicken has slipped slightly, with my most recent order being VERY fatty and a little dry. I don't know what to say about this restaurant, but the impressions are not the best. To be more precise, when we first ordered food there (I always take cashew korma and my husband tika masala) it was quite tasty. The second time I had plastic parts in my dish, apparently from packing vegetables or something similar. We decided to order a third time, but this time my husband had something foreign in his dish that had to be thrown out. I am very sorry, but because of the unsanitary nature of this place we will not be ordering here again and unfortunately I can't recommend it to others. P.s. For the founder of the business. What an incredible find! We discovered this place after looking for takeout options post climbing at the Rock Club in New Rochelle. We were enticed by the pictures of paratha and were thrilled to discover an authentic and delicious South Indian home cooking operation! They are takeout only but so amazing and highly recommended! We placed a pick up order tonight and were told about 1 hour 10 minutes yet it was about 2 hours before the food was ready. I was in the mood for some authentic butter chicken. I was not a fan of this. There was very little flavor. There was also very little chicken as seen in the picture. The sauce was very thin unlike most butter chicken sauces I've had. The naan was also very small pieces for the price - the butter chicken was $20 and the naan was $5. Portions are ridiculous and food is always spectacular. Make sure you order ahead of schedule because the food takes time to be prepared. This is not order and in 20 min it is ready sort of place. Give it an hour. The chicken tikka masala, saag goat, beef korma are winners. The chicken 65 is some sort of dish they made up and it is my favorite. Honestly, it gives you the most bang for your buck. The saucy dishes have less meat bc, well...all of the sauce and since this dish does not, you get way more meat. Yay! It is a bit spicy, but not overkill. The veggie pakora was the best I have ever had, but I did not see it on the online menu this time. Tried the onion pakora and it was underwhelming. I've ordered from this place in the past but I always forgot to take pictures until this last time, this is a takeout/delivery only place, I always order directly from their website, you get text notifications when your order is ready to pick up, the food is always packaged well and ready to go at the given time. They have a pretty large menu of items to choose from and good sized servings for the price, my wife and I shared an entree, naan and appetizer all for under $45 and we were full. The food is definitely homemade with great flavors, we went with the butter chicken empanadas which were unique and amazing, the mint dipping sauce was so savory and tasty, we enjoyed the garlic naan and we loved the butter chicken which came with basmati rice. My boyfriend and I were super excited to come to this place because of a video we saw on Instagram . The first disappointment was to find out it was only take out but honestly no biggie . First thing we open are the empanadas , we take a bite and they were cold , we put those away and try the Shirley wraps we each had the chicken tikka ones and once again cold , the wrap itself was good but everything was cold . After I ate some bites I started to feel a bit itchy but I didn't think much of it . We also ordered butter chicken with naan for the house . Later on that night I eat it and once again I start itching, my eyes were slighty swollen and it was bothering me to even smell this food so I threw it away . I ended up taking an Allegra hives pill to calm down my reaction. I have had Indian food multiples times but this food , Almost had me going into the ER . I have no idea what reaction I got or from what but I did . I'm very dissapointed and scared of how much worse this could have gone . We also spent $68 on this food so it was very disappointing . Whenever I'm in the mood for Kerala-style takeout, this is my spot. The fish mole is authentic. My kids love the chicken korma. And the beef fry is delicious. The beef cutlets are best consumed when fresh out of the fryer. And who doesn't love naan? Some things to know before you order. India is an extremely DIVERSE country when it comes to languages (over 14 recognized languages), climate (snow, desert, tropical), religions... so why should the food be any different. The majority of Indian restaurants in the US focus on northern Indian cuisine. Kerala is a tropical state on the southwestern tip of the subcontinent. It is one of the smaller states in the country... and the unique food matches the uniquness of the people. Not all of their menu items are native to Kerala, so keep that in mind when ordering. The native menu items are all amazing. If there's one area I'd recommend for improvement, that's to give more accurate time windows for food preparation/pickup. read more
