Steer away from these people! They are scammers and totally unreliable. ORHP assigned us to them and they promised to show up between 12-3pm. We took time out from work to be at home. Then they stopped picking up their phone at 3pm and had the audacity to lie to ORHP and tell them that they showed up and no one was at home to open the door. The could have at least called us or picked up the phone. Absolutely unprofessional. If you get assigned to them through any insurance company- please request a new contractor immediately! I recently had a gas water heater installed through my American Home Shield (AHS) Home Warranty using Cal-Home as the assigned contractor. While the customer service reps were efficient, and the plumber (Tony) did an excellent job with the installation--I'd give him 5 stars--the overall experience with Cal-Home left much to be desired. Unfortunately, the company seems to exploit the AHS coverage gaps by charging exorbitant prices for parts and labor that fall outside the warranty's scope. AHS covers only the cost of the water heater, but Cal-Home insisted that every component be replaced with brand-new parts, citing AHS warranty requirements, even when existing parts were perfectly functional. For example, I was charged $125 for a drain pan (including labor), even though my original one was in good condition. Comparable pans retail for about $25 at Home Depot or Lowe's--so how does placing it warrant $100 in labor? Likewise, they billed me $55 for a gas valve that costs less than $10 and takes no more than 10 minutes to install. By the end of it all, I had to pay Cal-Home $1,284 out of pocket for items that AHS wouldn't cover. In hindsight, I wish I'd opted for the cash-out from AHS, bought a similar water heater from Lowe's, and hired my own installer. I used this company to install a gas water heater through my American Home Shield Home Warranty. I was weary because of the poor reviews. I gave three stars only because Roman did a great job and explained everything to me, and the service was provided in an expedient manner. I deducted 2 stars because the company upcharged all the extra parts needed based on code changes. So if you're going to use this company, just know that the Home Warranty will end of covering about half the total cost. I paid out of pocket $845.00 for the miscellaneous items needed. Highly recommend this company. Our water heater broke down with water all over our garage floor. American Home Shield (AHS is where we have home warranty) contacted them to perform the work. Tony came to do the inspection and he found out that we have the wrong type of water tank heater. Apparently, it should be the direct vent instead of standard one. Our tank heater broke down about 3 years ago and it was replaced by another company selected by AHS too and they were then ones who put in the wrong one. Cal-Home helped us work with AHS to explain about the mistake done by previous service company and that they have to put in the right type this time around to meet codes. Finally, AHS agreed to it and Cal-Home came in late Thanksgiving eve to perform the replacement. They are a life saver because I have guests coming and will be staying in our house for the Thanksgiving weekend. My guests arrived an hour after the service was completed at 9:15pm. We were so happy because we haven't had hot water for a week because of the back and forth with AHS. Special shout out to Jane and Tony. Jane is the very nice lady that you probably would be talking to when you call their number. She was the one who kept me informed about the going back and forth with AHS and was so patient in answering my questions and kept my nerves under control. Tony is the technician who actually performed the work. Very knowledgeable and quality of work is superb compared to the previous installers. Very clean installation (see photos) with keen attention to small details like insulation. He answered all my questions about maintenance, warranty, things to watch out for, and the difference between what is the right type of water tank heater and the wrong one that was installed previously. My home warranty company American Home Shield assigned Cal Home Construction to repair leaks from the toilets. It leaked down to the garage and there was an access hole which looked right below the toilet piping. That was on Dec 31, 2024. Plumber Bill Tapia came over and replaced the wax seal, tested it several times, even took out one of the toilets a second time to add another wax to adjust the height since he noticed minor leak. Bill was patient and professional. I really had to commend him on his excellent work. Ask for Bill Tapia if you ever have to get any plumbing work done, so that his Boss knows how good he is. read more

My water heater busted and water flooded the area. I went through American Home Shield to see if they would cover it. Cal Home sent out Tony who quickly realized that the tank was unrepairable and new pipes were needed. AHS approved the replacement of the tank but I had to pay for modifications. Was not too bad considering most companies wanted 2k for a new water heater. Tony came back out two days later and installed the new tank flawlessly. We were assigned to this company thru our AHS Warranty for a slow flow toilet. The plumber arrived earlier than expected. Snaked our toilet, ( we snaked our toilet with a 6ft auger) and said he got it going and that we would probably need a toilet. Didn't fix the problem and then noticed back flow from our clean out, and called a local plumber who tried snaking 50-75 feet out to the mainline and then used a hydrojet! Problem fixed!!! Toilet is flushing with lots of power and quick! Wished the plumber had investigated more thoroughly. read more

Upon arrival, a person arrived who knew nothing about plumbing or bathtub repair showed up. I explained to him acess to the motor was outside of the building. Possibly the worst plumbers. Were sent by our insurance. They left a quote for replacing faucets and they said valves needed to be replaced. After many many many many calls they finally made an appointment to come on a Friday and called that morning and asked for the water for the block of units to be shut off. We did. They not only never showed up, they never called to reschedule or apologize for not showing up. Did not answer the phone all day. Needless to say their quote was phoney. We had a shocking situation where there was water in our crawlspace and needed a plumber out to figure out where it was coming from. To be able to get someone in the space we pumped out as much water as possible. Cal home assigned Joe to us and he was super professional and jumped right in, even though there was still a bit of water left in the crawlspace and assessed the property and found the leak. I had two problems with two different showers. My home warranty company forwarded my warranty request to this company. I was skeptical about this company based on the reviews here. The technician Slava was professional and diagnosed both the plumbing problems correctly. He was able to repair and replace one of the shower with an identical part even though it required a lot of hard work and skill to get it out. The 2nd shower was an imported faucet for which he needed authorization from warranty company and parts that he needed to order. Got contracted with this company through American Home Shield for my garbage disposal and once the ticket is submitted I was supposed to receive a call back for an appointment within 24-48 hrs, no call! So I call american home shield they call them and was told they called me and left a message with my appointment, lie ! I never got a call and there was no message! The time they selected did not work for me because that time slot I would be at work, hence the reason for the needed phone call to set up a day/ time that works for both. I hung up with america home shield and called this company and said your just hung up with AHS and said you called me and told him that's a lie because I have no missed phone calls or vm !!! We made a new time slot for 2-4pm and no-show, I called the company twice and no answer. I call AHS and she puts me on hold, calls them and they answer for her, that's strange because I just called and no answer . Then they tell her my time slot is 3-7pm!!! F'ing liars!!! Poor customer service!! Unfortunately I didn't have a choice because this is the company offered through our home warranty company - ORHP. You can never get through to them by phone to schedule an appointment and when they do finally call you back the customer service is awful. We've had three different plumbers from the same company work on our home for various issues - the first plumber they sent out, I think his name was Joe - he was excellent, great at communicating what the problems were that led to the faucet dripping, and knew which cartridge would fix the issue - his supervisor kept calling him to question the type of cartridge which was so awkward - the cartridge the supervisor recommended didn't work and in the end the one Joe said we needed did work. Interesting that they'd micromanage staff but not return customers calls to schedule appointments. read more

I wish I read all the review before. I have some leaking faucet, since I have a coverage with AHS, I ordered their service through AHS. They did show up once, checked the faucet, and said they need to order some part. However 2 months later, I got no follow-up, and no updates. I tried to call them so many times, and left many messages, they simply just ignored me. I even complained to AHS, but apparently neither AHS nor this company cared about their customers, or can fix a leaking faucet. I still got no response. So I was upset, I called AHS to cancel this request and send some other contractor, you know what, I have to pay Cal-Home to cancel the service they promised to do, but never did. I had a couple of small issues in my hall bathroom. I contacted my home warranty folk (AHS) who were very responsive and sent someone out the next day. Slava showed up right on time and went to work to install a new tub spout/diverter so that water would actually come out of the shower head when u pull the diverter knob. He went the extra mile, was careful about the caulking around the spout and even cleaned out the drain cap when I mentioned the drain was slow. Then he fixed my 'rocking' toilet with a shim and tightening the bolts. He was totally professional and I was happy to engage him in a brief conversation. Yes, he has an accent.
