THE BEST CAKE I HAVE EVER HAD. I swear. Get the pineapple coconut or the blue velvet and thank me later. I'm sure they're all delicious. You can just tell their base cake recipe is phenomenal. Plus they're super nice people! Please support their business read more

This place did not disappoint!! I normally go in for their red/blue velvet cake and it's always delicious so I suggested my sister use them for her baby shower cake. They entire process was really simple and I made the order 2 weeks before the event. When I went to pick up the cake the day of the shower it was beautiful! The woman who worked there also helped to get it in my car which was great (b/c it was so heavy). Would absolutely recommend them and they will be my go to cake place! read more

This cake tastes nice but it's nothing out of the ordinary. It's a bit expensive for $8 a slice. I ordered delivery and got the wrong cupcake flavor but my boyfriend still enjoyed his. Ate it in under 30 seconds. The cheesecake is really good. Love the name cakeboi as well. read more

Ive been supporting him before the grand opening. But now walking into the shop with the friendly, welcoming staff was even better!Back in December I tried out his to die for cake jars my kids and I got addicted. Went back twice lolThe flavors omg Red Velvet and Vanilla with Real Coconut shavings throughout EXCELLENT! Very moist and not overly sweet. He even made my daughters 16th bday cake which wasnt the flavor I asked for but still very tasty and he made me some extra jars off GP because he had some issues at the shop.. Cakeboi owned up to his mistake and I appreciate that! His friendly yet customer savvy personality will definitely take him far! Its nice to see a young entrepreneur doing his thing right in the neighborhood. I wish him nothing but blessings. And everyone please go taste the slices you wont be disappointed! read more

The carrot cake is a must try. I've gone back several times and each time is better than the last.

This is a new spot I patron from time to time during my long walks. I come here for my banana pudding fix which is obviously counterproductive to my walks but so what, stop judging me. They are often out of it but the owner explained to me that there is at times a wafer shortage due in part to the Covid slow down of shipments. Considering the calories I log each time I eat it, I guess that's a good thing. read more

I really wanted to love the cake flavors that I purchased but... . This spot has been on my to do list for a while now. Finally had a chance to stop in today. Great friendly service. The person at the counter took the time to name all of the flavors available and there were quite a few (probably around ten or so). I purchased red velvet Oreo and caramel something (I can't remember). Both were underwhelming. The caramel was a little better than the red velvet which as others described had an odd color. Granted the red in red velvet is food coloring which adds absolutely nothing in terms of taste, but the taste was the issue here not the color. It just fell flat. Definitely not as good as Doc's on Bainbridge. If in the area I'd give it one more try but mostly because it is black owned and I'd like to support if perhaps there's something else that I'd enjoy more. read more

This place has the perfect texture and flavor cake that tastes SO homemade-- and I ain't talking Betty or Duncan (who even does box cake anymore?). I'm talking grandma's down south recipe. I'm talking about the kind of cake that makes you walk a little faster on your way home to hurry up, grab a fork, and get comfortable with both feet up on the sofa to dig into this perfect cake! The confetti cake is great, red velvet, blue velvet, Oreo, pineapple coconut, double chocolate, and they even have a cookie with The Notorious BIG's face on it. What a way to represent Biggie in Bed-Stuy! Their chocolate cake is always sold out-- took me a year of visiting to finally get a piece of the pie, I mean, CAKE. The slices are about $6, it's worth it and you get a pretty hearty piece that you can have enough left for later or eat in one setting if you're a cake fiend. (I'm NOT a cake fiend, but I am for this cake!). They also bake and deliver whole cakes too if you order online a few hours ahead and they can deliver to your home or even a restaurant if you've got a birthday or special event situation. They also have really great service. It's family owned and the whole crew is nice and welcoming. The only complaint I have about this place is I'm gonna need them to start making more chocolate cake, I'm tired of hearing that they ran out after they decided to turn me into a Cakeboi obsessed woman. Gimme more chocolate cake, ughhh. Thank you and good-day! read more

I love the name and the branding they're going for at this place. It adds a certain special something to the up and coming BedStuy neighborhood. So I was super excited near drooling just thinking about grabbing a cake or two for a recent birthday for a family member. When I called to order I was surprised that the person who answered the phone there seemed more than disinterested in my order or the bakery itself. He knew less than I did about the stores different cakes. I had already learned a lot from reading the Yelp reviews. He didn't even know what Yelp was. Nor did he know about many of their most popular products. Not good. I ended up going in to buy some. The girl behind the counter was shy by nice enough. The cakes were average priced. Nothing too bad compared. Especially compared to other neighborhoods or manhattan. The interior is just okay. Most importantly the cakes were just okay. I really wanted them to be amazing. But they just weren't. Got two different kinds. Both were far too dry, def not moist or cakey, and way too dense than we are used to. They are also very sweet. Which is obviously just a subjective taste thing. But for us this just wasn't as good as we would have liked. Perhaps it's a certain style that some people like..? Drier more dense and super sweet? But we just didn't like it too much unfortunately. Kudos for it's branding and attempt though. Hopefully this place will stay here and keep improving. Because it's nice to have it in the hood. Just not our style of cake. read more

I'm going to leave a fair review only because we stopped in without realizing this is the cake shop I had bookmarked and it turned out to be good. We had a super cute young boy probably around age 9, asking us questions and explaining each slice of cake to us. I think that was adorable but what got to me is when he charged our card. Holy crap this boy knows how to run the family business at such a young age and he did great. No errors at all, great job kiddo. Against better judgement (young boys recommendation) I decided to get the Fun Fetti slice of cake but he told me coconut and strawberry were the better sellers. I took my own chance to try something different. It was very good, light and had the same frosting as a standard red velvet cake would have which I found odd but this must be how they make their frosting. Oh and the cake slice is huge and thick. I mean the slices are definitely worth $6.75 or whatever it cost lol. My hubby had the strawberry blonde which is one of the best sellers. I have yet to taste it because he's being stingy but it looks delicious as well. He told me the taste is great. I do love the pricing and I look forward to trying more flavors. I wish they had many more flavors that night but I do understand that we dropped in late and unexpected. It's been 2 days and our cakes are still moist in the fridge. I fully support this business and I don't even know these folks but the cakes are worth it. read more

The cake shop was packed With people and massive cakes You cannot go wrong* *pineapple coconut, funfetti and blue velvet were all delicious! read more

Go straight to the Pineapple Coconut! You can really taste the butter and cream and the sweetness isnt "diabetes sweet"- which I appreciate. Also, the chunks of pineapple are small/subtle, which curbs the "chunky fruit cake" texture that I hate. It took 3 visits to find a slice I truly loved- I was initially drawn to the velvets (red/blue), but I find them to be a touch on the drier side. Perhaps Cakeboi is using too much/too little chocolate? But Cakeboi has SO MANY flavor combos, I believe there is a slice for eveyone's taste. I plan to grab a full cake for my next family reunion :) Support Black businesses! read more

Wow!! Amazing cake! Dense lush cake that is still light-and the best part is it isn't too sweet. Also this is a truly local corner of Bedstuy and is a hot spot. The flavors my brother and I tried were lemon strawberry and the hazelnut. The hazelnut was great, but I wish I had ordered the lemon....but then there is also pineapple coconut. Both of us have about half a slice left over. Yumm!!!! read more

This makes the SECOND day driving OVER 40mins to get "FunfettiRedVelet"....I hope this isn't turning into a habit(Lol). I'm sorry to report that this cake slice didn't work for me. I had a slice of the Fun Fetti, which was weird since I barely noticed any sprinkles inside and out. The cake itself was oily and overly moist. The cake had no bite, no flavor that jumped out at me. The icing was bland and too much on the "whippy" thin side for my taste. I do not know what else to say but I can only be honest. There is at least one other cake store in Brooklyn that I would recommend before coming here. read more

So let me start this review by saying their strawberry blonde cake never disappoints, but my most recent experience with a cake order was severely lacking. I last placed an order with Cake Boi for pick up I think in 2018 and the pick-up process was SEAMLESS. Everything was ready the morning of arrival. I placed an order via email for a strawberry blonde 8" cake on AUGUST 1 for pickup on August 14. Arrived at the shop at 3:10 and at 3:20 was told they were boxing it up. Fast forward to 3:35, now it has to be re-iced. It's now 3:53 and the cake is just being brought out meaning it wasn't even ready to begin with and had we arrived in the morning the same situation would have ensued. For those on a strict time schedule with things to do, think twice. Waiting almost an hour for a pre ordered cake is not ideal, and truly defeats the purpose of pre-orders. read more

I had the carrot cake and it was very good esp the cream cheese frosting. It was just the right amount of sweet -- I really don't like it too sweet -- and the cake itself was nice and moist. It was an unexpected treat and stop on this street. read more

Was recommended to this place after deciding not to spend $700 at the local competitor in brooklyn. Staff Super friendly but had to bargain for cake tasting (I thought these were free normally). Day of my mothers surprise 60th bday party cake was late even though I called the day before to confirm the time. Also came with missing parts. Waiting over an hour (event is going on) for missing parts to come (and also a surprise cake for myself that I didn't know about). This also held up singing happy bday because there was no cake at the time. Half of The shoe on top of the cake must have fell off as it was found on the floor (was untouched and brought out on stand in one piece granted it was the hottest day of the year and may have melted). Luckily my mother was not disappointed. Tardiness and lack of communication was my main complaint. Celeste (owner) did reach out to rectify the situation with an apology, cake boi credit for my cousin and I, plus a refund on the delivery fee in July. It is now almost a month later with no response. I have called and replied to the email accepting their offer but have not heard back from anyone. Again communication is key. Hindering me from doing business with them again if they can not even uphold their word. At this point the refund and credit is warranted. Will we ever get it... stay tuned. Just ordered a red and blue velvet cake from them what a waste of money !! I waited 2 days just to be disappointed .The cake wasn't good at all. The frosting wasn't authentic cream cheese frosting that a red or blue velvet cake should have . I bought two slices thinking I would be pleased . All the hype about this place is for nothing . The cake was pretty tho I order blue velvet cake from Lord's bakery that is way better than this . Definitely does not have the red velvet taste read more

I walked in here to get some cake to cheer me up after I got sacked! Cake Boi himself was on the mic speaking with the staff and they were all cutting up and having a real good time. They ALL asked me how I'm doing and greeted me as soon as I came in. I just jumped right in to asking about Cake Boi about the cakes and the back story. (sticking to the cakes though) Ya'll! I was stuck between ordering the blue velvet and the strawberry blonde. Glad I ordered that strawberry blonde because it is THE BOMB DOT COM! Guyssss it doesn't taste like your generic cake mix either. Ya'll know some cake places out there claim they are the best, even reviews on yelp claims they are the best, but when you go there yourself.... Shit taste like it's straight out the damn box! Lmaooo Wish I ordered the Biggie strawberry blonde cookies too, but next time. They already got a customer outta me!! Support black owned businesses ya'll. And I'm damn sure coming back to try that blue velvet. The portions are huge so you are getting a bang for your buck! Amazing customer service and feels like family when you walk in. Can I be honest here? Though the cake is good, it's not the actual star of the show (for me). The icing. The icing... let me say it again THE ICING does it for me. It's cream cheese based icing. It's literally the best icing I've ever had. Most of the time icing is overly sweet, not creamy, or pleasing in texture at all. This icing is perfect! The cake is pretty dense but still moist, you wont choke on it like a Popeye's biscuit. Everyone that works there is always so friendly and more than willing to help you choose one of their many flavors. I work in the area, so I will be there every time I have a sweet tooth. read more

Let me be clear the 1 of my 2 stars is for the excellent service the other star is for the cake. I was excited to have another cake shop in the neighborhood. However to say I was underwhelmed with the cake is putting it nicely. Pineapple Coconut cake On my first visit I ordered the pineapple coconut cake which is my favorite cake. After a few bites I ended up throwing it away. The cake lacked flavor over all. I am not sure if the pineapple filing was actually pineapple because it didn't taste like anything. The actual cake was bland but slightly oily and the icing wasn't overly sweet. Actually it lacked so much sugar that I could actually taste the cream cheese that was used. Normally you don't taste the cream cheese due to the sugar and other flavoring. And lastly the coconut flavor was missing from this cake as well. Strawberry Crumb Cake Because I'm a glutton for punishment and I don't like to travel far for dessert I decided to give Cake boi another shot. The people at the counter are very helpful with explaining the offerings and giving you time to decide. This time I selected the strawberry crumb cake and it lacked flavor as well. The icing was a bit better on this cake than on the one I had before however the cake was flavorless just as before. Blueberry Sugar Cookie Alright I know you're thinking something is wrong with me but I feel like you need to try something 3 times before you can give a solid opinion. Well I stopped in for a cookie and I think I found out what they've been doing with all the sugar that's MIA in the cake batter. This cookie was crispy and overly sweet. If the cakes ever match the great customer service i'll be back but until then i'll pass. read more

This past weekend I ordered 48 mini red velvet cupcakes (half w/ regular cream cheese icing, the other half w/ oreo icing) and when I tell you they were the best cup cakes I have ever had!! Moist, flavorful, and overall delicious. They struck the balance (I "taste tested" at least 5) between tasty and sweet without that sugar flavor taking over. Served them to guests at two different events and got no short of 10 compliments on them, one person even calling dibs on the extra at brunch to take with them to enjoy that evening. The owner was beyond friendly as well and so were the other staff. Will definitely be back and would recommend to all, far and wide! read more

I happen to pass this place and decided to try it. Excellent cake. Great customer service and the owner is pleasant and courteous.

After a late delicious lunch at Angela's I decided to walk those calories off and head on over to Cakeboi to, well, take in more calories. I've been wanting to try the cake here but just haven't had a chance, with detoxing here and giving up sugar there - well cake wasn't in the plan. However, I'm stressed and in need of something to make me smile, so I said "what the hell" with the detox and got me some cake. I went in to try the strawberry that everyone is raving about and left with a strawberry blonde cake cup with strawberry filling and cream cheese icing AND blueberry blonde with blueberry cream cheese icing. I couldn't wait to try the cake in the cup - the strawberry one, you know with the strawberry filling!! Delish!! My cake was a little dry or maybe not dry, I think it has everything to do with the cake being cold and packed into the mason jar, so I'm gonna let the heat knock the chill off and hit again. Now for the blueberry - I just grabbed it out of the bag. People BYE!!! I wanna slap somebody's mamma cause this blueberry is the TRUTH!!! This icing.....OMDAMNG!!!! Five Kisses for Cakeboi Shop! And thank you to Vernell for his wonderful customer service and recommendation!!! read more
