I wish I could give this "place of business" a negative review. Today I drove to the Cake Bar to order my birthday cake (a simple 8 inch round red velvet cake with light decorations on top). I drove up there because after trying to call this place over 8 times between Friday and Sunday, they were not answering the phone (this was the first sign that this place is a shitty business).
I contemplated even ordering my cake from there because I've heard mixed reviews about their cake, but since my favorite bakery is still temporarily closed due to COVID, I took a leap of faith by deciding to order my cake from the Cake Bar anyway. My sister and friends kept telling me not to order from them because of the inconsistent reviews but the Cake Bar is near my house, and is open for business right now, so supply and demand got the best of me. (I guess this was sign #2)
Nonetheless, I arrived ten minutes upon closing and stood in line to place my order. Immediately upon arriving there, I saw that there were several employees present (some of who were not assisting customers or baking)and I instantly got angry because I could've saved gas and time from driving up there if somebody, hell anybody, would've just answered the phone. (This was the third sign)
Once it was my time to order, the woman who I believe was named Cecelia (a middle aged black woman with a short hair style) took my order. When I told her I was ordering a cake for the upcoming Friday, she looked annoyed at me and said, "You can call in to place this order". (Fourth sign"
After that I told her, "Well I've been trying to call but no one answered", she responded "Well did you try to call today because today's normally a busy day", and then I said "well I'm here now so can I just order?" (Fifth sign)
After that, Condescending Cecelia said nothing to my question, and jotted down my order. I gave her my card for the payment, and then she asked for the details for my cake.
I told Condescending Cecelia that I wanted the 8 inch round red velvet cake, with a few sliced strawberries on top. Condescending Cecelia told me they couldn't add fresh strawberries on top because they didn't have any and wouldn't have any. (Sixth sign - I thought this was strange because how are you making strawberry cakes without using fresh strawberries???)
Next, I asked Cecelia if she could just drizzle some caramel icing on top of the cake instead, and she told me they couldn't do that either because they didn't have any caramel. As she was telling me that, I was looking straight at their caramel cake so I was confused and very annoyed by now. (Seventh sign)
Next, after going back and forth with Condescending Cecelia and dealing with her attitude, I asked for a refund.
After getting the refund, I told Cecelia that I may actually keep my order but I just needed a minute to make a final decision (I was thinking about my birthday that was quickly approaching and knew I wanted a cake, and needed to order it soon) - you see supply and demand was getting the best of me again
Literally less than 30 seconds later, Condescending Cecelia rudely yelled out "We closed!" while of course not looking at me, but looking at the register.
After that, I just left.
I refuse to give my money to a business that can't answer the phone, that's rude to their customers, and that cannot make SIMPLE additions to an order (even after I've offered to pay for the additions).
Cake Bar, you should be ashamed.
I hope the owner sees this and enacts some change and customer service training because Miss Condescending Cecelia obviously needed it. Your cake is not that good for poor service.
Do better. read more
