I loved this place when it was on Dean Street and was nothing short of ecstatic to learn that Jude the Baker has moved walking distance from my daughter's apartment. He's still the same sweet man, and the baked goods are still delicious. Our family favorite is the Butter Tart, with German chocolate cake and Pistachio cake giving it a run for its money. read more

Amazing cake!!!! Moist and he was really nice to open the door for us after he was closed.

Good not great. Had red velvet and pistachio.

All their cakes are moist and delicious. Definitely get the pistachio. It has bits of nuts and so fluffy & moist. I always stop by here when I'm in the neighborhood. read more

This review is mainly based on the fabulous experience I had with the owner of this place. I love cupcakes, and even better - the BF loves cupcakes, so as I was walking home one day, I see this new cupcake place on the street (yes, this review is a little overdue...) and decided to be a good girlfriend. I walk in, and was immediately greeted by the owner who proceeded to give me tastes of almost everything he had in the shop (this was within the first week of them opening). The raspberry filling was delicious and the cupcakes were fresh and moist. I decided to get a couple of them to bring home, however, at that point, they were not yet accepting credit cards (they do now), and I had no cash on me. He proceeded to just give me some cupcakes saying that good deeds would eventually come back to him. I don't know if that ever happened, but I certainly came back later. It is a little expensive for cupcakes (haven't tried the cakes though), and I wasn't as impressed with the decorated frosting on some of the cupcakes I got later. I don't need any pretty flowers on the top of my cupcake - just give me a knife-full of butter cream frosting and I am good to go. The owner is so nice and really just trying to make a living. Give him a chance! read more

The storefront is pretty spartan. However, they give decently large portions and if you warm up their brownie, time stands still for a few moments when you're eating it. read more

Ok, "Ambiance" is not the right name for this place, bc they do not have any ambiance haha. THAT SAID: go there and get cake. The banana pudding cake is to die for. The CC machine was broke when we got there and I had to use a sketchy deli (we've all been there) so I hope they got that fixed, but all their treats were top of the line. We got a slice of buttercake too. It was freaking amazing. Don't be scared off by the look, it's amazing. read more

"Do you have a minimum for cards?" "We just charge you a dolla' extra, that's all" That's all, huh? If you're gonna downplay that policy, I'd rather syphon my cash to an ATM skimmer. For some reason, I returned to the place, cash in hand, to patronize the business of a contagiously friendly, though (as others have said) quite pushy man who seemed to be the start and end of Cake Ambiance. (I wouldn't consider the 5-10 people hanging out there clearly having purchased nothing part of the operation, though they decidedly contributed to the atmosphere...er...ambiance.) I would counter previous Yelpers and point out that the sign for this place is pretty damn bright (hot pink?), and includes a large white cupcake logo - to me, that's not unassming, but perhaps explains why it seems to have become a neighborhood hangout of sorts. The place was outfitted with a couch for (I assume) family and friends of the proprietor, who was more than willing to help and attempted to talk over his boisterous "supporters", who constantly turned down his demands to try his "new recipes". He kinda mumbled as he handed me a fork of what was either butterlicious of the bread pudding - in either case, it was pretty bomb, even if it was largely satfat and not all that complexly layered flavor-wise. I'll give it to the guy that he did recognize me from the prior day (as did his confidants) and promised me that if I didn't enjoy my purchase I could come back (for what, I'm not sure). I forked over $2.50 for what he informed me was suddenly a BOGO offer for a mini/medium green tea/blood orange cupcake, the final 2 in the case (perhaps not hot sellers or he just wanted my return business after asking if I just started working nearby). While I'll concede this is probably a 3.4, my second visit helped the rating skyrocket from a 1; it'd be an easy 5 if he could get his friends to be easy (at least for the 5 minute intervals he has customers) and if the duo of creations I got weren't dry and were even remotely green tea-ish and/or blood orangey. read more

They make awesome buttercrunch cake, chocolate cake and tons of special event cakes. This place is easy to get to, right near the Barclays center, and has a large selection of treats. They offer several tables to sit and dine in, however the decor is bakery bland. Take a taste of their free samples, you'll be impressed. Still worth a trip when you are in park slope. read more

I bought a chocolate cake for my partner's birthday, and I can't tell you how delicious, moist, and down right sinful this cake was. everyone devoured it. The only qualm I had was that it was gone to soon. We had to wait a bit for the cake to finish and the owner gifted our party a couple of slices of sweet potato cake for the wait. That sweet potato cake was also out of this world. Some of the best cake I have had in awhile. read more

I had ordered a 10" strawberry shortcake ahead of time to be picked up by 5:30 pm. When the day arrived for my b-day party I called to confirm that it would be ready by 5:30 pm and to make them aware that someone else would be picking up the cake. NEVER AGAIN would I order anything from Cake Ambiance. I got my cake at exactly 8:45 pm, when my guests were ready to go home. Thanks Cake Ambiance for making my birthday so special. read more

The cakes are amazing however, the manager is so rude to the point that I will never return or send them business. I cannot subject my clients, friends, or family to this poorly run business. My side: I wanted to buy some cakes for my bf who was in the hospital. I also wanted to enquire about whole sale because I thought they would be a good fit to a restaurant chain in Harlem whose current offerings are terrible (cakes are dry as the Sahara Desert). The racks are empty *shock of horror* uhmmmm...where are the cakes?! I ask are there any cakes available. I wanted 3 flavors. Chocolate, Yellow and Red Velvet. The young man said oh we dont have yellow. The man on the cellphone said we dont have that flavor. The young man behind the counter said yes to the others flavors in the back, but they needed to be sliced. I said okay I will wait. The man who was on his cell phone -_- and screamed we don't have no cake! Why are you telling the customer we have cake. Miss we don't have any cake!!!! I said that man right there just told me you did and that they needed to be sliced. He said WE DON'T HAVE ANY CAKE I DON'T KNOW WHY HE IS TELLING YOU THINGS HE DOESN'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT!!! To the man: WHY ARE YOU TELLING HER WE HAVE CAKE NONE OF THE CAKES ARE READY!!! YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO CHECK IN THE BACK! DON'T BE TELLING CUSTOMERS THINGS THAT YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT!!!!! I AM THE MANAGER AND THERE IS NO CAKE! Then he went on a rant about how the cakes are not frosted they need to iced and sliced blah blah blah. Something about me coming later. I was like I am going to Harlem there is no coming back later. At some point, I asked about some weird looking square things in the cake case but they were brownies and that was not what I was looking for. There was another person there, a lady. Clearly she was powerless to the man who also yelled his responses to her...smh So of course I counter with: First of all do not yell at me. Secondly you shouldn't yell at him in front of me. Thirdly I just want some cake. Here you are yelling and screaming, while on your cell phone when you could be icing and slicing up some cake! Why are doors open when you clearly have no cake! You know what, never mind. I will never buy cake from here, I won't refer anyone to you and I will YELP this. HIM: GO AHEAD!! I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU DO!!!! GO ELSEWHERE OR COME BACK LATER!!! I laughed no thank you I am good. I can bake a mean cake but this would have been my go to when I am in a pinch! I am so done. read more

A lovely message from the owner (sent to me personally, via Yelp): Christopher P.: "I'm all for people having an opinion. Only because we all have our individual minds and thoughts. You on the other hand seem to go around looking for the worst in each business and depict what you think should have happened in your head as I read all your reviews. Do you think that's fair. I work at a black own business that you recently offered your critique about. I really think it was over the top considering you and one other person from 4 years ago gave us a negative review. We work extremely hard in creating a friendly environment for all our faithful customers. Yes we could use a fresh paint job but while we are extremely clean and have an A posted on our window from the proper people who are clearly licensed to judge, that doesn't give you the right to rate us on our cleanliness! Yes our prices are high but did your ever think maybe I should ask why? Well let me tell you since you clearly don't have a business of your own and you don't know what it takes to run a business; hight rent, employees, special ingredients, electricity and supplys. Now when people like you complain just to complain on yelp you don't realize that your review may contribute to our prices going up. We are one of a couple of black own family businesses still around in this neighbor, I would think you would be happy for us that we are surviving. Bottom line you should receive all the information before you judge or right a review." Who does this? read more

Really? Narrow minded because they don't do Halloween cupcakes? A bit harsh no? We don't walk into kosher establishments and ask for bacon do we? Respect, it would be nice. *steps off soap box * okay so eating the berry-licious made me well I will keep it pc and say it maybe me happy in ways I thought only a man could. I am a lover of anything sweet. I'm a junkie for sugar. A whore for Delicious butter cream ( oh yeah I tried a piece of my daughters cupcake). I was here with my cousin and my homie for life Ava and we were in heaven. Samples of the bars were a bonus! I wish that I was related to whomever owns this place. I loved everything I ate. Didn't even notice the decor. I'm one of those weirdos who goes into bakeries for baked goods and not the seating arrangements. I wouldn't sit anyway nobody should have to witness me licking butter cream off my elbows........don't ask. I'm sure they have off days but today......hot damn it was good!!!!!!!!!!! Will be back so often they will have to grease the door frames to let me out.......... read more

Shop may not look like much but believe me this cake is DELICIOUS. I am addicted to the chocolate cake it is so good. I used to visit this shop once a week when I lived in park slope. I now live in NJ and still make the trek at least 1-2 times a month b/c the cake is THAT good. For those complaining about the prices, really?? The slices are absolutely MASSIVE. There are many non-minority owned bakeries who's prices are way higher than this for less quality. Magnolias sells 1 cupcake for like $3.50-4.00 you are getting a slice that is at least 4x the size of a cupcake. Also you can tell that the quality of ingredients they use is superb and well worth the price. I am very happy to support this Nigerian owned small business and will continue to do so as long as I live in the tri-state area. read more

I love this place, the owner is so nice and friendly. And the cake is so awesomely amazingly Great.

I really want to like any small business specializing in cupcakes, but I've tried the goods on two different occasions (about a month apart), and they're not up to snuff. The cake part of the cupcakes is stale and dry: both times seemed to be about a week old. The flavor is bland too - almost seems like they make the cake from a mix with fake eggs instead of using real eggs. The frosting isn't anything to write home about either: while the frosting wasn't as stale as the cake part of the cupcake, it's slick and over-whipped - more like Crisco than butter. The people are really nice, but for my calories (and dollars) it's really not worth it. Hope they can fix their recipes! read more

The owner is so friendly. Greeted us as soon as we walked in and told us about his love for baking. You can tell he has a passion for it. Love their pistachio cake. Delicious!!! It eats like a creamy pound cake. Have to try. read more

First off people complain way too damn much, if its not about the color of the walls, its about attitude that ones day, or some other miniscule thing when they should be giving note about the deserts, the helpfulness of the staff, the availability of the actual product you came in to seek, location and other ease of access related things. I have been getting my sweet tooth fixes here for over two years and NEVER had a bad experience. I first stumbled upon this place while walking with a co worker after the nearby Q train had its weird weekend schedule where service ends at atlantic av and you hop on a shuttle bus. We skipped it and decided to walk down flatbush, saw this place on the way and went in where we were given tons on top of tons of delicious samples. The owner was sweet as the pastries he sells. He took pride in all the products there and I loved it, I am all for black business that are 1000% all for what they do and sell it like its not another thing out there like it. No one puts their foot in sweet potatoe pie like this guy, no one can decorate the hell out of a cake the way his artists can. I always have to get a cupcake be it blue velvet or red. I cant control myself. Unlike one reviewer I cant help but not buy almost everything in there. I dont know why I lose control when I go in this place but there is something hypnotic about that place that gets me to part ways with at least $20 of my money. And the thing is I am never upset about it....oh my belly is rumbling just thinking about that banana pudding cake. I even told my friend about the place and she traveled down to try the pistachio cake. Later I asked her how she liked it and told me she is staying away from there because she has a pistachio cake problem now and of course she blames me...for some odd reason. *Shrugs* I hope people give this place a try, its really good food. Its near the subway and bus so its super easy to utilize that Metrocard transfer and hop off the subway, grab the goods and hop on the bus for the rest of your travels. Its open into the good part of the evening but go early because he always runs out of a lot of stuff after being open all day. I dont think the priced high at all, I mean if you want the best you have to pay for it. There are other shops in the surrounding area that make mediocre product but because Rhianna or Carmelo Anthony got their cake there they charge outrageous prices like $3 for one cupcake or $5 for one cake pop. I think anyone who goes in with an open mind will be pleasantly surprised by this place and the charm and helpfulness of the owner and his entire staff there helping out. read more

I decided last minute to have my Dad pick-up some slices of cake for my bday. I called - the guy who answered was very friendly and accommodating. He had the cakes ready when my dad arrived. From the pictures, I could tell already that the cakes would be moist and delicious. My favorite was the pistachio by far! It's true what the other reviewers said...very moist, not too sweet with a lemony undertone. WOW. I was blown away. My family also quite enjoyed the red velvet/cheesecake and the banana pudding cake (this was too sweet for me - however if you are a fan of banana pudding...you will love). This place is a total hole-in-the-wall, as others have said, but the pastries are awesome. I came here with family/friends last weekend, and between us we had the pumpkin cake (seriously amazing), the almond cake (great, but a little sweet for my taste), red velvet cupcake (very good), yellow cupcake with chocolate icing (great cake, icing was rich and delicious), and the guy behind the counter let us try the butter cake which was suuuuppppeeerrr sweet and buttery - I wouldn't order it, but apparently it's popular. Great place to know about - I will definitely be back! read more

I don't know how they can call this a bakery with NO BAKED GOODS!! Just came from walking into this place, they only had two dried and crumbled up pieces of cake in the glass displays. And on the other side, the displays were completely empty. Finally someone came from the back. We asked him you don't have any cupcakes? His response was shrugged shoulders, and "nah". GHETTO. I went here today to try a new bakery in Brooklyn. When I arrived at 6:45 pm on a Tuesday there was very little in the cases (a few pistachio cupcakes which I was told were "not the freshest", some slices of red velvet and blue velvet cake that look very similar to those sold at Piece of Velvet on Fulton St, and some Sweet Potato pie). The friendly counter person however informed me (after me overhearing his conversation with another would be customer on the phone) that there would be more slices of pistachio cake available in 1-2 hrs so I walked over to Target and wandered around for an hr and a bit and returned around 8:00pm to find the case stocked with said peices of pistachio cake, one of which I purchased. It was a good size piece of cake which cost me $6. The cake was moist and delicious. I would definitely order this again. read more

Their chocolate cupcakes with chocolate buttercream were very good, and I liked the Gooey Bar (it was a little sweet but good) As a connoisseur of red velvet cake I have to say theirs is among the worst I've ever had, it was very dry and the icing was a SUPER sweet vanilla no the requisite cream cheese. I also had the pistachio cupcake, that's a big no. The other problem here is things are VERY expensive I don't mind paying manhattan prices in manhattan or for very good quality baked goods but on a corner in brooklyn to pay 5 dollars for a mediocre cupcake Seriously no. read more

Stumbled onto this after blundering out a side exit at Barclays Center. They're open late! Not that much selection at 10:30pm, but we eyeballed these honking huge slices of green pistachio layer cake, pink strawberry cake, and cheesecake, and were also prevailed upon to taste samples of Butter Delicious (the most decadent butter tart ever - very tasty, but I could not eat an entire slice of the 5x5inch serving that they sell!) and the Sweet Potato Pie (which I really loved, actually - they put some lemon in the filling so it's a bit brighter-tasting - though that might not be everyone's cup of tea). We dithered on pie vs cake, but eventually left with a slice of pistachio cake. It was classic homemade-style, light and fluffy and not overly sweet! It was a little pricey at $6, but it *was* a massive slice. They were really nice to us, and if I lived nearby I would probably stop in again. read more

Best cake I ever had 5stars my mum loved it. Everyone was asking for more melts in your mouth wow

Surprisingly the store front was so hot in the store, at least the counter has cooler temperature with all these cakes inside. I bought the cookie n cream with chocolate in the store, I was going for red velvet, but unfortunately, it was not out it at the time. The cake was good but chocolate cake was a little saggy, it must be the storage which caused the cake to sag; besides the cake, the cookie n cream was really well mixed. I would like to go back again to get the red velvet next time. read more

I came across the store while trying to find something to bring to a potluck party. I definitely should have tried the cupcakes before I bought them. They were $2.50 each which is the standard price of cupcakes in the city. The cake itself was good but the frosting tasted like butter. Not butter cream, it was thick and dense and not sweet. It was a total turnoff. I couldn't finish my cupcake and many people asked me about if I knew what was in the frosting "is it just butter?" read more
